xerotop: am seriously considering PORTING from my childhood fantasies(BMW) to an infinity FX45.
probably a 2006 model. am being frustrated by my mechanic.
av been carrying out so much research abt the FX. av discovered so much abt them.
and i think am going to PORT very soon.
you hardly find the FX in garages lying fallow.
for the fuel aspect of the FX, i think God will take care of dat

It's a very good car with amazing engine . Don't let your mechanic deter you away from it. Burns a lot of fuel but you got 8 mouths to feed (V8).
Don't let your mechanic play apprentice with it .

Nissan VQ uses timing chains. Nissan does not use belt anymore. Their chains are "lifetime chains" no need replacing.

okpara ugo: For your mind, Honda Ivtec 2008 isnt a fast car. The fastest cars on Nigerian roads are Merscedes, BMW and Honda(Ivtec), the last being the commonest. If you are rich, try Hyundai (Genesis). Am a road user(long haul).

I eat Honda VTEC for launch. VQ are so powerful they would murder any Honda VTec engine . Same displacement. U need to go look at the torque curve.
U don't know anything about Nissan engines, why else would you think VQ uses belt. Nissan has VTEC in their engines just called "VVEL". "Variable valve event and lift".
Every car automaker uses a version of valve timing .
BMW has VANOS, Honda VTEC, Toyota VVT-i.
Honda was the FIRST developer of VTEC .
BMW VANOS is very advanced compared to Honda system.

Emperoh: I hope you guys are aware that changing your engine oil and filter is not just servicing.
Other parts need to be looked at. depending on whattime and mileage as indicated by the manufacturer.
Issues like timing belt change, chassis lubrication, tire rotation, fuel and water filter change etc. are also part of servicing.

Maybe the auto technicians int he house can come forward with what need to be changed and at what time

Most cars don't use timing belt, everyone is moving to timing chain cus of longevity. Honda still use timing belt and that's changed every 100,000km depending on the car . Air filter is 25,000 miles or once a year . In cabin air filter is once a year average unless u drive in very dusty condition. Coolant is every 5 years or 120,000
What u mean by chassis lubrication? Maybe u mean cars with differential but u rarely change diff fluid for newer cars. It's a closed system .
What is water filter ? Maybe u mean fuel filter but that's up to user.

Came across an old print when Mobil first made their Mobil 1, it was guaranteed to still have it's properties at 25,000km. Well, that's not good for business .

AWD is amazing no doubt but still.
About the snow thing and RWD, having good winter tires mitigates that. In countries like canada, nothing beats AWD. Quattro is the beast, every other system plays second fiddle

I know there are three values - stickered, actual and indicated. While they may not all be the same, the actual and indicated will NOT be 25% off. This will only occurs on a tuned car, with larger injectors, or if you've had your ECU mapped, and altered the stock injector duty cycle. Even in such instances, you can have the consumption indicator recaliberated to be accurate to the new DC. Also, if you've had a replacement engine, and used the injectors that came with the new motor, they may have different flow rates to your old ones. Again, your dash will need to be recaliberated to know a change has taken place.

The consumption indicator will only deviate sharply if the vehicle is left idling for long periods - so the readings will indicate the gas was burnt, both driving and idling. It won't tell you however, how the gas was used. Understand that. That is why there's a reset button to clear the average consumption values. You clear this value whilst on a long highway trip (constant speed) and believe me, you're not going to get a 25% discrepancy. If you do, then there's something that needs addressing in your automobile. Or you can use the instantaneous consumption figure, and this gives you consumption in Real Time.

I zero my trip meter each and every time I fill up my tank, and then compare the final figures with my indicated, and guess what? It's pretty much spot-on. I started a Consumption thread earlier this year, which I'm sure you contributed to. So I'm sure you understand I'm not a layman when it comes to automobile, and how they work.

Your car might be close and pretty accurate but I have driven cars here which on average overshoot the actual mpg. Every automaker is different. There are lots of threads online of people complaining about their dash display mpg not accurate compared to the manual method even with trip meter reset after fill up and highway trips. Hyundai was sued for that ish.
I don't care much about MPG now than few years ago when I was obsessed and would do anything to get an increase in my mpg.

My car says I get 25mpg. That's what the onboard computer says but that's not true cus I calculate it manually with a pen and paper writing down the odometer readings and how much gas I put in.
No one is talking about window sticker here . The window sticker is in an ideal driving at 60mph with no wind resistance and cruise control on and no AC. No one drives like that.

Car and driver did a series way back and found out that most automakers dash display is off as much as 25 percent. You can't blame them cus your dash display is an approximation.
I challenge any of you to do it the old fashioned way and keep a mileage record and compare with your dash mpg.

FYI- lithium ion batteries capacities goes down after 2 years, their rate of discharge increases. It's not gona function like the first time you got it.
