Now, here's something you may not want to read but it's truth and may help to put a few things into perspective:

1. According to your post, IBplc was taken over by Access Bank. As an IBplc employee (core or support), a person would be lucky to still have their job. In takeovers/mergers, the company that was taken over almost always gets the short end of the stick; this means, unless stipulated in the documentation that allowed for the acquisition and/or merger in the first place, your jobs is not guaranteed. If any wants to be angry, their wrath should be directed at the former leaders of IBplc.

2. Access Bank does not have to offer room for growth to former IBplc workers. Access has employees they hired using their own hiring practices; they come first. Don't like it, find another job.

3. As for being terminated for the slightest infraction: remember that Access took over physical branches but they may not need all of the employees acquired from IBplc. Again, making a mistake may look like you shouldn't have been hired in the first place. I know the excuse is flimsy but, again, they don't have to keep on people they did not vet themselves.

4. I don't even know how to address you blaming Access for the death of employees. If the families of the deceased believe that death was caused by actions made/taken by Access, they can file a lawsuit. Other than that, no business is going to offer money without being asked/forced.

5. Again, Access did not have to keep IBplc employees on payroll. Asking workers to stay late is the norm especially after a major takeover. As there lapses during the transition period, it is only fair that things get back to normal as soon as possible; that usually means someone is going to be burning the midnight oil and as IBplc was taken over, their held over workers get to do the grunt work.

6. No one from the former IBplc or Access Bank has to show up for the funerals; would it have been nice to show solidarity at such a time? Of course but it is a personal choice as to whether one attends such events. Outside of the branch where the deceased worked, no one else should be expected to beat their chests and pull out their hair. Access Bank is your employer and NOT your relative. As long as they pay you, they don't owe you anything else.

7. Core staff and support staff are not the same thing nor do they share the same duties; why should support staff be afforded the same benefits of core staff? You're complaining about not receiving nursing mother benefits even though your were paid during your maternity?! Amazing. Here, maternity leave is unpaid.

8. The more I read, the more irritated I am becoming with the author of this piece. Unless the professional, core and support staff all have the same level of degree, the complaints should just end. Why should someone put in the time to earn a higher degree only to earn the pay money and benefits as someone that has a lower level degree?

I can't even continue...this person was kept following a takeover and still complains. I must need a nap because this whole piece is just full of whining for no justifiable reason.

Cheer up, upgrade your degree and try again. If Access still won't give you a chance, look elsewhere. Good luck.

There was a crew in Nigeria that got paid in a mega way becos the wrote and algorithm that would generate millions of 13 digit PINs without repeating a number! Now thats a feat! If it was by using java.util.random to concatenate different different digits then there would be no big deal in doing that.

Cuz by the lil programming i know the process for generating 10 13-digit random numbers and millions of 13-digit numbers are the same. The glaring issue to contend with here is time so if the logic follows the team worked on reducing d time cost which cud hav been done by using bigger faster multi core machines and storage (big databases ). To eliminate d duplication, the generated numbers cud b passed thru a Set (a non duplicate data structure) . This is a naive approach to d problem but what did they do that was innovative and required more formal cs knowledge. Share it we are here to learn.

The long marching trend is to put all indexable searchable information online broken down to finer sets of particularity then create interfaces to the search functionality.
For general search u gat google. For books amazon, for local books search (*enter local amazon clone*), its coming to taxis, for ppl u gat facebook, for hotels (*too many to mention*), for consumer goods jumia, best bargain - groupon and clones. The whole stuff is just about gathering data, indexing and searching - on a bigger scale.

In d past "real programmers" coded in *gasp* assembly.
Then c,c++ guys heaped scorn on java but garbage collection and all d conveniences of more convenient languages hasnt killed d dev's job. Cobol was suppose to b so easy for managers and ceos to write their own programs ,yet its convenience only provided a base 4 writing even larger software!
Millions of lines of Cobol code is out there running in d wild.
Point: the most convenient tool will only b used to create more monsters which wud necessitate the service of a logical thinker aka software dev! Afterall wen d user of this software want to issue 10k lines of instruction he/she may b overwhelmed managing all d states in his/her head!
As far as there is a demand for mor advanced information processing machines,there's no escaping the role of a programmer.

csharpjava: Sorry I brought S/E into this thread, I had to in order to correct some misconceptions about S/E, for the sake of those who do not know about S/E.

You are right you don't need Formal Specifications in Software Engineering for most applications, but when it comes to Mission, Business and Life Critical applications you will need a S/E to convert UML Class Diagrams to Formal Specifications like the one I posted before, it is from these Formal Specification that the actual code are then written, this will help save time, effort and money involved if it had been coded straight from the UML Class Diagram and then tested. But with Formal Methods in S/E, all the testing would already have taken place in the Formal Specification.

Uml is one of them. Uml , is just a language for describing a system.
It is not THE language! It survives cuz it the industry favorite, if in a small in hpuse team , or as a solo dev, a different language is deviced , does tht make those devs less of software engineers!

At the onset re re inventing d wheel is a psychological primer rather than a pragmatic reaction , but as time goes on u may hav mor goals to meet that low level tweaking losses it's appeal. Thats where u just cobble components together and hope they work, and if they dont u hope the error catching mechanism is robust enuff to handle the outcomes.
U'll reach there. But even at that, wheel re invention will continue at higher levels or different subfields . Y , first, the analogy is broken, software wheels aint round. Mathematically, the formula for a circle is perfect and cant b improved, but a physcal wheel has many variables actg on it, like roads rocks bumpy surfaces slippery surfaces etc so engineers keep adjusting the wheel augmenting it , in software the variables a so called software wheel acts on can b myriad, and with new situations a complete redesign is necessary . Software systems ar more complex than wheels by a vast margin.
Anyway, i used to write and re write lists data structures from scratch for my programming projects but now i just use whats available in d basic library. While i may chase writing some other software that already exists cuz i dislike d interface of the available ones. E.g some windows software suck big time. I hav to re write versions for myself so i could get more wrk done on d machine .

Besides, knowg how finicky programmers ar no one choice of tool can satisfy all so a unanimous conclusion is impossible. google , which most industry watcher say is the most powerful tech company @ present (edged out microsoft years ago), isnt waitng for w3c to push thngs frwd, they're gunng for desktop dominance - they created d chrome browser, a version of javascript ,Darcs, and a powerful javascript tools,GWT, if cloud computg wins out, javascript will bcome the most important client side language, and d browser wud b d most important client side app after d operatng system. Google knows ths and is outfitting js with all d power necessary to bring it on par with other traditional languages.
Html5 has disk writng capabilities i believe. If d browser bcomes d main focus disc writng cud b enabled under certain conditions, but with cloud storage disk wrtng wud b done server side.

@all Read and meditate on it. I'm seeing computing receding to it's mainframe origins. Already tablets are d rave. Two thngs will happen. Tablets will edge out lappies as d main computng devce, and d cloud will edge out hard disks d way flash drves edged out floppies, as d main storage device. Or cloud based computg will coexist along side pc based computg but much like linux and microsoft windows coexist. But computg history augurs for dominance not symbiosis. So either cloud computg sweeps the competition or dies a niche death! Shamefully. Anyway, my guess is into d far future, think 10+ from now. So nobody get scared.

A computer with a hard disk shud b as absolete as a vinyl record if cloud tech really kicks off, tech companies will invest more in buildg more data warehouses all over d wrld, a couple more massive data warehouses and all d worlds information can b aggregated.
Once ppl are weaned of d fear of data security, it will b uneconomical to log hard disk machines around. Cvs was superceded by subversion which was countered bt git . Git boasts of disrtibution, torrents boasts of distribution but user data on hard disk are highly insecure - steal d machine and d data is gone. With data on d cloud, distribution and replication of all data will b a given so tht it becomes almost impossible to experience data loss! If this is so, then the brwser and of course javascript become elevated entities!

The web browser will become more and more advanced and with it - u get it - javascript
the king app in the web browser will become more powerful.
many years ago, the javascript wasnt as advanced as it is today - it was a 'scripting' language. cudnt write to disc, couldnt throw exceptions etc .
But javascript has become so hot its like the new shiny thing, so many new technologies piggy backing on this king of the browsers and creating waves.
so , wat wud happen to traditional programming languages then?
html5 has evolved to make the browser even more integrated into the software development cycle. infact html5 is evolved to blur the line btw web app and desktop app,
and javascript is evolving to outgrow the peurile classification of scripting lang it once bore - so as more apps move to cloud. I think traditional development will begin to look up to js and more languages will be more useful only for backend jobs - used in the clouds while the browser completely takes over the desktop. meaning,the era of
creating gui's will be history - html5 will be the standard - which brings up the ugly dread that it will be harder and harder for standalone programming langs to succeed in d the new diskless world. most programming languages will die or become retired for maintaining legacy apps . java will be new cobol!!

third world countries are gearing to improve their economies to provide more stable electricity, if there mor stable electricity world wide,
the next move will be to provide , more affordable higher quality internet access-
if internet access cost bcomes so affordable cloud only apps will become the de facto standard.
And html and javascript will long established to edge direct the revolution.

You budget for efficient machines . considering their salient points .
depreciate the expense over an anticipated time period - e.g 3 years.
then sell off the items after theyve exceeded their estimated useful life.
rinse and repeat.
so say ur buying 10 lappies/etc @ 170k . and u expect to use them for 3 years.
that will be 1700 000. add shipping and handling costs and customs .
say N2 000 000.
divide by 3 = u get ~N666 667 /year.
deduct this from gross profit every year to derive ur net profit .
after 3 years - sell the machines for whatever their worth!.
if u want to be extremely frugal u may buy more high end machines and extend their useful life longer .

this is an old debate that spooks the noob when they first get into software development.
for me it dont matter anymore.
but for the purist , here's what i'll say.
in some environments - there are classes of people who take design instructions
from some oga at the top and convert into working implementations.
These guys as u guess have the grunt jobs of doing the dirt work.
All the imagination has been done for them they are just to rotely do the transformation
from paper design and pictures of boxes and lines to curly braces and wat not.
in these situations the low level guys are the 'programmers/coders'

The high level guys fall into two categories.
the system analyst:
this one talks to the customers helps them flesh out wat really they need to be solved by software and gather all requirement details from them.
he helps the customer focus on the specifics until all the details are extracted.

Then he hands the details over to the software architect:
the architect and the system analyst (cud be one and the same guy wearing both hats),
now sit down to 'architect' i.e design the solution graphically.
The white board goes up, the uml diagrams are deployed and
design and redesign is done over and over again - an iterative process-
until finally, the full picture is gotten. This architecting phase can take a lot of time.
in some large software projects it cud run for a couple of years. (2-3 is not unusual).
Finally, the software blueprint is defined in visual terms.
words like Use cases, are the lingo of architects.
Its noteworthy also that some guys are architects without coding ability!

After the architectural phase, then comes the implementing phase.
Enter the programmer/team lead/ project manager.
A herd of programmers is assembled under a competent leader . to build the solution.
pieces of the puzzle are broken off and handed to teams to work on.
e.g
the team responsible for the view, the group responsible for the business logic etc.
the guys working on the actual programming are called programmers / developers.
developers is a more respectful term. if the guys are wrking in prestigious places and are well respected theyr addressed as software developers but if the guys are the sweat shop variety - u call them the more denigrating terms - programmers/coders.
one large software theyre even more specialized roles team members play.
for example - they wud be a dedicated build engineer:
he is responsible for resolving issues with the automated building system,
setting up source code access, priming the build server,
etc -
This guy cud very well be a software developer but due to the sheer size of the project
he now takes on a specialized non programming role.

one man/few man development team:
developer is used also in situations where the programmer - does more conceptual work.
like think up the software idea/ do the designing of the application making pros and cons design decisions / then actually sketch the blue print of the application to be built/ code up the project / write documentation/ deploy/maintain.

for the latter kind - you most call the software developer.

but after some years in this thing , like i said - it dont matter anymore!!.
for a tip: oracle exam that requires to actually build a working application is tagged
Developer exam. not programmer exam.
The ones that require to know the rubrics of the java language only is tagged "programmer" exam.

As for the early church, they brought everything they had together cos of the famine that was in Jerusalem at the time, so no one owned anything, they shared everything amongst themselves. There is nothing like money doubling there.
