What these guys do on the first page of posts here is no fair at all. Imagine opening a Nairaland post in a public place and behold, there is a big pornographic image right there on your screen. What will people say?
vibre: I would have done the same, I have to secure my own interests first before thinking of the interests of this useless country. Am I unpatriotic? You're damn right!! Proudly unpatriotic!!
Not when you've headed an arm of government in the past. You've massively benefitted from the country, therefore are constitutionally bound to protect the inrerest of the country.
Dareal90s: Let's see who is stupid btwn U nd me, tell me u ar not living in a Yoruba state presently, or tell me ur family/relatives ar not living in Yoruba states.
Shut the hell up! Instead of hiding your head in shame, you're still showing your stupidity. Two SE states have more population than 4 of your SW states and you're still talking rubbish. Oyo is the only SW state that has more indigenous Yorubas than indigenous Igbos in Anambra and Imo. If Lagos is judged by the number of indigenes living there, it will be one of the least populous states. If most Igbos live in SW, and SE is still very well populated, it means most of the SW population you guys love to brag about is contributed by Igbos. That's a very ignorant argument to make.
Dareal90s: Coz d last time I went to d east I only see goats on d street nd some village boiz working in d bush. Most of d rich ones ar scattered all over south west, even d poor ones manage to stay in Ogbomosho nd ekiti. Don't forget if an Igbo man doesn't go to south west he can't make it in life.
The link above shows the population estimates of Nigerian states based on the 2006 census. From the figures, Anambra and Imo states are more populous than 4 South West states: Ogun, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti. Anambra is the 10th most populous state in Nigeria and Imo is the 14th. I ask you again, where did that rubbish you wrote up there come from?
I still remember the pain I felt in my heart that October 1st morning in 1996 when Gen. Sani Abacha carved out Ebonyi state from my dear Enugu and Abia state and gave it to Walter Feghabo to pilot.
I knew it wasn't a good decision. The Igbo states were okay the way they were and I opined that another addition will be the weak link in the Igbo chain.
23 years later, I am yet to be proved wrong.
The Igbo leaders are asking for one more state to make SE have equal number of states with most other geopolitical zones (apart from NW that has 7).
TheAutoReporter: Many may not have heard of the Loko-Oweto Bridge. The Loko-Oweto Bridge is a bridge that will connect the Benue and Nasarawa States. It is an 18km bridge that has been going on close to 3yrs but we are yet to see the conclusion. Now, the team handling this project are ending the logical end, but the PM has its ups and downs moment.
According to Alon Peysin, the project manager at RCC Nigeria, he wrote
In September 2016 I was in position of Bridge/Project Engineer in Loko-Oweto Bridge project team. The project is 2 parallel bridge constructed by the balanced cantilever method. The length of the Bridges is 1835 m included 24 axes. To overcome large thermal expansion of the bridge 4 expansion joints were designed. Two expansion joints are in the middle of the spans.
The expansion joint between axes is designed to transfer bending moment and shear forces between 2 parts of bridges and allow free axial expansion.
As Bridge Engineer, I received the task to plan and execute the installation of the middle span girders of expansion joint. After a case study, I could only find that the same solution was implemented in the world in Otay River Bridge in the US.
We planned all the details. We checked the position of the crane on top of the barge. We created the light model of the beam to test the installation, it helped us to learn a lot of new details we didn't think before.
The installation of 2 beams took a couple of days and it was very successful.
I am so proud that I was part of a team of such great project.
The Loko-Oweto Bridge is an 18km bridge project which is in two phases will connect Benue with Nasarawa State. The Director pointed out that the 103 km Otukpo-Apa-Oweto road was ready for inauguration and the whole bridge will be ready and handed over to the Federal Government for inauguration in May.
The bridge upon completion, will provide a vital link between the North, South, East and West part of the country as well as enhance the socio-political and economic activities in the country.
This bridge will open up the North-Central and it will in turn spring up development, because it will spur transportation and businesses in the two states. In the recent past, older generations trekked a whole day to reach Nasarawa State or waited for hours by the river bank for local canoes to ferry them across the river.

post=81920965: God punish all the corrupt leaders that ruled our nation for 16 years without constructing just one major road that we are seeing on this thread, but rather looted and raped our country. And for the bastards supporting those kind of greedy and evil thieves, same prayer goes for you. Bastards and criminals y'all are.
They are so corrupt that they even looted money (60 BILLION NAIRA) meant to construct their National Headquarters! And you expect them to build a country? Hell No! Just imagine these animals!
Good job on the major roads construction going on all around the nation by this current administration God bless PMB. God bless Nigeria.
four4: check out what some of your fellow Nigerians are doing for living SA, a lot of them are into crime and not only in SA but wherever you see Nigerians you see crime as if that is our logo, the problems I am having is just that they are handling it in barbaric way
Why can't their law enforcement agencies jail those criminals for life? Aren't there Nigerians doing drugs and crime in Indonesia? How come Indonesians are not killing Nigerians? It's simple, their law enforcement agencies are on top of the situation.
Talking about Nigerians living in South Africa, are you also aware that majority of blacks who are doing great in research in South Africa are Nigerians? I was chatting with a former classmate who recently finished her PhD in SA. She told me that their people are very lazy unlike Nigerians who are very hardworking. As a result, their white lords prefer to work with Nigerians than black South Africans.
The issue is question isn't about drugs and crime. It's just jealousy. Many Nigerians are being employed in very great positions in SA while their people are languishing in poverty. They are very bitter about that, but is it the fault of Nigerians? If they feel the foreigners are too many, they should tighten their immigration rules. That way, people will be forced to leave. That's a better approach than killing innocent people like animals.
CapitalHYC: It costs Zero Naira to be real.. I love their courage and Boldness... and to the wife most especially she is a goddess, her type of woman is rare in this present day Nigeria of IPhone and sharwama girls... God bless their Marriage
A very beautiful and wise Igbo girl. Later, some people will be saying that Igbo girls are materialistic.
gwafaeziokwu: I don't know why you want to cure the ignorance of those who have closed their minds to learning because of sentiments. Allow them to continue displaying their folly,it's fun to watch.
I really tire for them. They think Igbos are hated all over the world, meanwhile there is no region of the world where you don't have a good number of Igbos living in harmony with the indigenes, even contesting elections and being appointed into governments. The more they wish us evil, the more we succeed.
Mizwisdom: You're wrong, is it not the same thing happening in Ghana, South Africa, Cameroon, India, Kenya and Malaysia? are they also kidnapping you in these places too? humble yourselves that's all, you can't be more prosperous than the owners of the land where you do business, you're just louder and more proud than the average person
South Africans are killing Africans generally. It appears like the focus is on Nigerians simply because there are more Nigerians in South Africa than people of any other country. In most countries where you have black foreigners, most of them will be Nigerians. The reason is obviously because Nigeria is the most populous black nation on earth, and the country is in a mess, so most Nigerians cherish any opportunity to leave the country.
Mizwisdom: Everywhere they go people hate them, it's a pity sha, maybe if you humble yourselves you will be liked, peace to all
Stop displaying your ignorance. It's not about hate. Most of the Igbos outside Igbo land are traders. Major markets in most states in Nigeria have a reasonable number of Igbo traders, especially in that North Central. Even outside the markets, Igbos operate shops, supermarkets, pharmacies etc in the communities. This makes them to become easy targets for kidnapping since they/their relatives can 'vomit' the needed cash.
Tobimillar1: Why always us ? Are there no successful ghanians , Kenyan's , Ugandan's, German, or any oyinbo for that matter
The proportion of Nigerians who relocate to other countries (compared to the total population) is probably the highest in the world when you match it with what is obtainable in other nations. This is largely as a result of the poor state of affairs in Nigeria. Another factor is the overall population of Nigeria. Currently, Nigeria is the 7th most populous country in the world. This means there will always be more Nigerian immigrants in other nations than other immigrants from most other countries. I heard of a general hospital in the UK that has 35 Nigerian doctors, meanwhile I do not think there is any general hospital in Nigeria that can boast of that large number of doctors.
Ikpeazukerosene: This attitude to politics is what makes Igbos elect incompetent leaders to Govern them and run outside Igboland to enjoy good leadership.
Just for a minute imagine people like Ikpeazu or Ihedioha have been ruling Lagos, Rivers and other states. Where would you Igbos run to?
You need to be politically conscious and hold your leaders accountable, not claiming to be u bothered about your political future but start crying marginalisation later.
You guys should stop repeating this nauseating nonsense. Igbos are not running away from Igbo land. Anambra is the 8th most populous state in Nigeria and the state with the 2nd highest population density after Lagos. That doesn't show the people are actually running away from the state.
Igbo land is small in landmass and is saturated with businesses. Igbos are majorly traders, so they only travel to other places to ply their trade. Even in some of the poorest states in Nigeria, there are Igbos running businesses. They aren't there because such states (like Borno, Yobe, Zamfara etc) are better than where they come from, but they are there to trade and make money. It's the same way Chinese come to do business in Nigeria despite their economy being over 30 times larger than Nigerian economy.
orunmila144: thats the beautiful thing about nigeria ? we dont rely on our salaries. the environment is so fruitful that most people out here have multiple sources of incomes ( side hustles ), but over there in the west after they have used you up like a slave at your 9 to 5 job you dont have energy for side hustles so you guys are solely reliant on your salaries. over here the average person has 5 to 10 sources of income. we are hustlers down here not salary earners
pay a 1k phone for 2 years ? jesu gbami oooo . you guys in the west are broke. how do you pay 200,000 thousand naira for 2 years ? jesu
You can only deceive yourself and not me. You are all hustlers in Nigeria with 5-10 sources of income, yet over 80 million Nigerians live on less than $1.25 per day and Nigeria is the poverty capital of the world.
There is so much money in Nigeria yet the best of Nigerian professionals are all running to Canada. Recently, Saudi Arabia conducted interview to recruit Nigerian medical consultants, and over 100 Nigerian consultants attended. Nigerian consultants leave their jobs in Nigeria to go and become junior doctors in the US, Canada, UK, Australia etc, and they celebrate it.
orunmila144: Lets just accept that you and your friends are cheap and operating on poverty mentality. the man can afford a phone but prefers to buy it on credit and pay small small each month ? what a pathetic bunch of cheap stingy people lmaooo. over here in nigeria we cash down for our phones. we got it like that. we live better lives in africa
Unfortunately, majority of you guys can't even afford such phones from your salaries. Let's be real, how many people on ₦50-150k salaries (which is the range of the usual starting salaries for Nigerian graduates in most establishments) can afford to buy a phone of ₦500k even with one year savings? Mind you, I am not talking about Yahoo Yahoo guys, politicians, runs girls etc. I am talking about normally employed folks.
I maintain that it's better to buy a £1k phone on contract and pay £50 per month for 2 years than to pay the £1k at once. The £50 deduction per month will not be felt at all, meanwhile that £1k can be invested into other stuff.
orunmila144: you are confused. anybody can cash down for a banger in america. a banger is a used up car with over 150,000 miles on it. and the same applies to nigeria. everybody in nigeria pays cash down for their cars. and in nigeria people cash down for their luxury cars but in america no one can afford to cash down for their luxury cars. which is what the topic of the thread is, meaning nigerians live better than americans. and from what i have just said its obvious nigerians live better. look at all the luxury carson the streets of nigeria ? people paid CASH for that not CREDIT
No, you're the confused guy. You definitely are. Which luxury cars do people cash down in Nigeria? What proportion of Nigerians do that? People steal public funds and buy expensive cars and you celebrate them instead of sending them to jails. How many Nigerians cash down luxury cars from their hard earned cash.
You still don't understand that the fact that people buy things on credit doesn't necessarily mean they can't save for it. I have friends who have been buying the lastest Samsung Galaxy phones on contract, meanwhile their salaries can buy 4 of such phones at once. It's simply easier to pay for it in bits over a long time than at once. They aren't broke. A friend bought 2018 Mercedes for £20k. He paid £10k cash and the remaining £10k will be on contract over 2 years. About the same period, he bought a house in which he paid initial deposit of £10k. He also got married that same period. He did all these after working for 2 years. There's no way the same guy would have been able to do these even with 10 years savings of doing the same job in Nigeria.
adonainana: I repeat anyone in the UK on a £60,000 takes home only £3000 per month ( The tax band for earners between earning between £46,000 to £150,000 comes in between 40 %) There is no escaping it, its a matter of legislation put down in law.
The only way you can avoid paying your tax in the UK is if you illegally use someones else National Insurance No similar to the Social Security Number in the USA.
Please ask your auditors, engineers friends that would they mind telling me thier Tax code as written on thier monthly payslips, i will tell them how much they earn monthly, they will think i am a sorcerer.
I repeat the net pay ( the final money that goes into your account if you are on a £60,000 salary ) is £3000.
£3,000 is not a lot of money, infact people like that will still end up Paying bills and just dying like that.
I never said Majority of Nigerians are living better than Majority of people living in the west.
My point was in my 11 years of living in the west, i have seen Middle class UK people being unable to afford what Midlle Class Nigerians can afford
Even if we use the example of this your auditor friend you claim earns £60,000. He is a very high extremely high earner by UK standards, he is not even Middle class by UK standards. Yet all he earns after tax is just £3,000 ( 1.5 million naira per month )
How does it sound that someone classed as a High earner earns what most Middle class Nigerians make per month. Hope you have started to understand where i am coming from
More or less this your auditor friend, he has not even deducted his rent, car, petrol, etc etc from this net pay of £3,000 he has just made.
So sir do you see where i am coming from, this your £60,000 friend is actually poor if we look deep down at it constructively sir
You see this hospital this, this good road that, please just leave it to one side cos i wonder where on the planet are there not roads and hospitals
Middle class earners in Nigeria don't earn ₦1.5m per month please. Let's stop sounding ridiculous in a bid to defend Nigeria. Middle class Nigerian earners take home less than 300k per month. The proportion of workers who earn up to 1m monthly in Nigeria are probably not up to 2%. Their counterparts in the UK earn over £150k per annum. Have you heard of financial analysts in the UK? Some of them earn as much as £500 per day. https://www.reed.co.uk/average-salary/average-financial-analyst-salary-in-surrey Those are the kind of people you will compare with the ₦1.5m per month earners in Nigeria.
Westerners go broke cos they don't save. They go on holidays and spend all the money. How many Nigerians can afford holidays? Even cleaners in hospitals, security guards etc all go on holidays at least annually. They don't spend their entire lives working like Nigerians do, and they enjoy their money while working. They don't care much about saving cos they live in a system that can protect them and provide for their basic needs even in their old age.
orunmila144: we dont live in a hypothetical world. we live in the real world. wake up from your dream. o ye slumber. and a 2008 corolla can be bought for 500 dollars so thats nothing. any poor man in nigeria has 500 dollars ( 200 thousand naira ) in his bank account. i know poor people in mushin that will dash you 500,000 naira ( 1 thousand dollars ).
Oh, a 2008 Corolla can be bought for $500 right? Did you see where the person I originally quoted said that 99% of Americans can't pay for their cars at once? Is Corolla 2008 not a car? So basically, any American adult can afford 2008 Corolla. How many Nigerian adults can afford it?
I thought you would have broken it down to me how minimum wage earners in Nigeria survive on ₦18k per month, since people can't survive on $1k per month in the US.
Any poor man in Nigeria can afford ₦200k? Now you're talking without reasoning. Nigeria currently has over 80 million extremely poor people (the largest of such population in any nation if the world), yet to you, any poor Nigerian can afford ₦200k.
Did you say ₦500k is equivalent to $1k? This guy is even an ignoramus. Well, I don't see any point engaging you further.
orunmila144: from what you have just typed, the bolded part, it is obvious you have not even seen muritala mohammed airport before. a minimum wage earner in america is on 8 dollars an hour. 40 hours a week is 320 a month is 1300 dollars. after tax he gets 1000. his rent is like 600. his transportation to work for a month is 200. his feeding for a month is 200. his clothing is 100. his light bill is 50. his water bill is 50. his internet is 100. and i have not eeven mentioned all his other bills but already his monthly expense is 1300 and he only earns 1000. so where do you come up with this he can save 4000 dollars in 4 months ? you stupid nigerians are clueless. in 40 years of work this person will still have zero in his account and be owing on his credit card bills. more than likely he would be homeless
You just ended up typing absolute NONSENSE. More so, you're the stupid person here cos you can't read carefully and assimilate what you read.
Did you see where I mentioned "whole salary"? I was only creating a hypothetical scenario where a minimum wage earner saves up their entire salary to buy a car, and I was trying to calculate how long it will take the person to achieve that. By the way, there are young people who start working after high school while still living with their parents, and they don't have to pay a rent of $600 or light and gas bills like you quoted. A young daughter of my cousin who recently entered the university in America just bought Corolla 2008. I am not sure of how much she spent on it, but she bought it solely from her savings. She works in a mall. How many of her counterparts in Nigeria can buy a 2008 Corolla after working in a mall for about a year?
In all the nonsense you wrote up there, you didn't even try to justify how minimum wage earners in Nigeria cope on a salary of ₦18k per month. Abeg, comot joor.
helinues: Wike have never tolerated Ipobs right from beginning which you guys are aware of, why do Ipobs sometimes intentionally do things that dont make any sense. Things that might put it's members in dangers..
Should Wike pounced on the Ipobs now, you will start writing UN, CAF, UEFA.
You are not wanted in a community, you say you can sing... Abeg who will listen?
Do you actually think these protesters travelled from Anambra, Abia, Imo states etc to go and protest in PH? These protesters are natives of Rivers State who are members of IPOB. They are protesting in their own land. Ignorant people like you think only people from the South East belong to IPOB.
Mind you, I'm not a member of IPOB. I often don't agree with some of their moves, but their determination is a lesson to many docile Nigerians.
timesup234: You are next to receive a severe uppercut from me. Get ready to visit the ER once I am done here with work. Then of course I made over 35k today. 5k will be for your treatment. Your jaw will be shifted
Hahahaha. See this one.
You made 35k today, and that puts you in the grade of a low to middle income earner in the US, Australia, Canada, UK and so on. Even Uber drivers in the US make more than $100 in a day.
timesup234: Yes everyone would love to live there until they get there and find out it is a mirage. The biggest shame will be leaving there without achieving anything. That's the shame over one million Nigerians are living with in America. They can't come back because they are stuck. If you ask Americans to pay cash for their cars 99% of them won't be able to afford it. Americans are broke and miserable and 95% of them will die in debt. If in 2019 Nigerians don't know an average Nigerian is richer than a middle class American then they are the dumbest donkey on earth
You're extremely ignorant. I don't know if you've lived in America before, but you lack knowledge of what you're talking about. You're just quoting useless figures up and down without sitting down and doing a little calculation.
What is the cost of a used 2005 Toyota Corolla in America? Let's say about $4k. For a minimum wage earner in the US who works only 40 hours per week, it will take him about 4-5 months to buy the car with his whole salary. In Nigeria, the same car probably costs about ₦1-1.4m. It will take a minimum wage earner in Nigeria about 3 years to buy the same car if he's to save up all his salary.
Americans and people from other developed world live on credit because they acquire the best quality (often newest) products. Some of them can't afford such if you ask them to pay cash, but their counterparts in Nigeria can't even dream of them in the first place. A brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 10 is around $1k. An average US worker can afford to buy the phone with one salary and still have enough change to sort out his rent and other stuff. How many average Nigerian workers can afford to buy a phone of about 360k from one salary? Absolutely NONE! The credit system in the western world means they don't have to pay for everything cash, but can pay in bits over some years still leaving enough cash to sort out other pressing needs.
In terms of housing, the quality of residential houses in Nigeria that can remotely be compared to the average American or European houses are probably the houses in high brow areas in Abuja, Lagos and other big cities in Nigeria. How many average Nigerian workers can afford to live there? Even junior doctors who work in government hospitals in Nigeria can't afford to rent 3 bedroom flats in Maitama, Wuse, Asokoro etc, yet these are some of the top 20% highest earning Nigerian workers.
The fact is that compared to the quality of life in the developed world, many Nigerians are not even living.
vibbb: Ok, Mamador thank you. But y not employ her instead, she's a graduate you can always find a place for her.
Did you notice this part of the post
The Nigerian graduate whose story went viral as she revealed she earned good money from selling food with a wheelbarrow?
I can deduce from this that she probably doesn't need Mamador job. She's her own boss, and more likely makes more money than Mamador will pay her if they offer her a job.
More so, now that she has been empowered, she can even go ahead and employ people to work with her, thereby making her an employer of labour and reducing the rate of unemployment in Nigeria.
