Can you now tell me why a church will waste their scarce resources building facilities for such schools? Benny Hinn slumps after a Nigerian sowed $1,000,000 into his ministry but doesnt slump when poor widows etcetera give. SMH Money will turn men into .... One day, everything will make perfect sense. You know little about kingdom financing. Some people have sold their houses and most of their property just to sponsor kingdom business. Some give it all up for God. The man that gave $1million could have given all his investments. Yes, people do it every now and then. Pastor Benny Hinn doesn't see the hearts of men to know that the woman who gave ₦1000 gave her all. It's God that sees, and he rewards accordingly. But as a human, Benny Hinn will rejoice (or 'faint') over amounts that individually have the potential to catapult him to his goal. If he needed $2million for the project and only one person gave $1million, that's half of the funds realised. It will be a big deal for anybody whether pastor or not. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Anglican Primate, Okoh Speaks On Tithe Controversy by Kennydoc(op): 5:47pm On Nov 13, 2017 |
I agree with the Primate. In the new testament, giving is not about percentage. It makes it very much mechanical. The early believers gave far beyond 10% because they gave their all, after giving their entire lives to God.
Some of the people who are making the loudest noise today are actually looking for reasons not to give to God anymore, or to reduce their giving to a minimum. If God gave us everything in Christ, what is it that we cannot give him?
We should take God's business as our personal businesses. Our desires should always be to give, whether in offerings, support to the poor, support to ministers of God etc. Real men do not say because they have spent 10% (or whatever percentage) of their salaries on their families, they shouldn't give them anymore, rather they sometimes even go out of their ways to borrow (when they don't have the means) just to make sure they meet the needs of their families. That is also the same way God desires us to go out of our ways to support the Kingdom. |
Christianity Etc › Anglican Primate, Okoh Speaks On Tithe Controversy by Kennydoc(op): 4:54pm On Nov 13, 2017 |
The Primate, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, His Grace, Nicholas Okoh has spoken on the issue of preaching and collection of tithe by pastors. The issue of tithing has generated a lot of controversy in recent days, geared by a controversial CoolFM On Air Personality, OAP, Daddy Freeze. Primate Okoh, who spoke with select journalists in Abuja on the subject, said payment of tithe was not by force, adding failure to pay doesn’t bring about curse. He explained, “Tithing is a very ancient tradition, Abraham paid tithe to Melchizedek and people have become transfixed to that idea till today, but in the New Testament, giving modalities have other options. “One, it says, set aside something every week which you think would be handsome for the glory of God and give that. Whether that is 10 per cent or whatever per cent, I don’t know, but the instruction is, set aside something every week. “Then, there is the gift required to give by all; the first concept is that your life is a living sacrifice. A sacrifice is something you offer and withdraw your hand, that means the Christian offers his life totally and the totality of his training, his money and everything he has belonged to God. “Therefore, the question of saying, ‘God take 10 per cent, I would keep 90 per cent’ does not arise. Let me give an example: If you are a tither and you give 10 per cent to the Church, and after giving this percentage, somebody is very sick, and you still have your 90 per cent, will you close your eyes to the person’s need? “You see, that is one of the weaknesses of tithing if you follow it mechanically. Then furthermore, in John chapter 6, Jesus asked people who had food to bring it, but only one young boy who had a lunch pack–two pieces of fish and five barley loaves, offered his. “The mother gave him to eat as he was going about with Jesus so he would not be hungry. When Jesus asked for the bread, it was not only that boy that had, many had and did not bring, but the boy brought his own, he did not give Jesus two pieces of fish and keep the rest, he did not give the barley loaves and keep the fish, he gave everything and because he gave everything, the blessing of God multiplied it over and over. “So the intention of the mother was met, the boy had enough to eat, other people who were there, almost 20,000 had enough to eat and to spare. Now, those who had and did not bring, their own became a waste. So, the point in this matter is that, when God is asking for something, you don’t give him 10 per cent. “You give him what is worthy of his name: it might be more than 10 per cent, it might be 10 per cent, it might be anything depending on the situation he has placed you bearing in mind that every good and perfect gift comes from above.” On the stand of some pastors that anyone who refused to pay tithe was under a divine curse, he said, “no , I don’t believe it, I don ’t curse anybody, God does not compel us to go, he only makes us willing to go. If God has given you a gift, he woos your mind, he makes you to see why. Remember that the gift you gave does not promote God. “He is not a young officer that would be promoted a senior officer or to an executive by your gift. God is full, according to the theology of Colossians, God is full, complete. “When you give, it is you the giver that is blessed. The person giving is the one lifted up, God is not hungry. According to Psalm 50, he said if I were hungry for meat, I won’t tell you, the whole cattle on a thousand hills belonged to me.” http://dailypost.ng/2017/11/11/anglican-primate-okoh-speaks-tithe-controversy/ I think this answers the question of tithing and giving for me, and for every serious Christian out there.

mavinc4u: Just like Jesus had assignment so were the priest. Some of the priest were not called but only went that line because of some challenges which is why they are having issues today. Peter never married and neither did any of the apostles. Jesus handed the key to peter before ascending to heaven when he proclaimed his words to him and that has been transferred from one pope to another. Peter never married? I guess that is the doctrine according to the Roman Catholic Church. Read Matt 8:14,15 and get the truth. I can't talk about other apostles cos the Bible said nothing about their marital status except for Paul who didn't marry for his personal convictions. Even if the other apostles didn't marry, it should be a thing of personal choice not a law. Paul advised that instead of being unmarried and burning in lust, those who can't hold it should get married. Unfortunately, many catholic priests are either committing adultery with nuns or different women in the church, or they are defiling altar boys. Even in the Vatican, homosexuality is an issue. The few who aren't doing those are struggling with masturbation. So what's the point? |

mavinc4u: Did Jesus or any of his apostles marry? Jesus had a very specific assignment on earth, and it was for a short time. He needn't marry. More importantly, He was/is God. We have a record of Peter being married, cos Jesus healed his mother-in-law of fever. The account of the personal lives of other apostles wasn't given. The priests of the old covenant were all married. In the new covenant, all that matters is Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross. We're not bound by rules or laws anymore, except to love God with all our hearts and to love our neighbours as Christ has loved us. Let me remind you that in the new covenant, there are no higher humans. We all have equal access to God. As a matter of fact, Bible says in Revelations, "He has made us a Kingdom of Priests unto our God and we shall reign on the earth". So before God, we (believers only) are all priests whether clergy or laity. So if some priests of God can marry (laity), why can't someone other priests marry (clergy)? |

BlaiseBankss: Tho there are loads of girls who will love to marry a priest I see no be reason why the Pope should allow marriage because it destroys the Celibacy of priests some will lose focus and start committing adultery because they will be allowed to have carnal knowledge and come to think of it some will be diverting church funds into the training of their children if they give birth later on. To be married is one:: To be a priest is another #Just_My_View_On_The _Issue Is there an express biblical injunction that ministers of God should not get married? Can you name any priest, pastor, bishop you know in the Bible that wasn't married, except maybe for Paul who did it on his own volition? Paul writing in 1 Timothy 3:2 stated that a bishop must be the husband of one wife. So why did celibacy become compulsory in the catholic church? Are the catholic priests more productive than the early disciples most of whom were married? So where did the Catholic church get the compulsory doctrine of celibacy for priests from? |

OP is saying earning $2000/month in the US is nothing. Which is true. That's the point he's trying to make. Cos people are quick to convert to naira and brag that they are making it big.
Pros of living in the US- The amenities. Social Security. Credit Facility etc.
Pros of living in Naija - Affordable Housing and food stuff. No matter how much u earn, with the right budgeting, and 'hold bodi ' ,you can survive. Anybody can become a millionaire tomorrow with hard work and smart work... Etc
The Cons? We all know the cons of living in Nigeria and outside Nigeria.
It's not a matter of debating, it's just mere fact.
The grass is greener where you water it. You're right to a large extent, but I honestly don't agree that $2k per month salary in the US is nothing. A single person that earns that amount is probably doing a menial job, but can still save up to $500 per month. With working extra hours, it can be more. Even as a doctor working a Nigeria, how much was I able to save per month? Not so much. |

Okay, lemme make a point here. An average American City is far better in terms of development and social amenities than the finest part of Abuja (Maitama, Asokoro etc). Now, that person earning $2500 probably lives in a city far better than Maitama. Now I ask you, can someone who earns 150k monthly salary rent a 2 bedroom flat in Maitama? For your info, a one bedroom flat in Maitama is about 1 million naira per annum in rent. That's more than 80k per month. Someone who earns ₦150k cannot even afford a house in VGC or Banana Island, meanwhile less than 10% of Nigerian workers earn up to ₦150k salary per month. charlsecy: Please explain how this relates to prosperity preaching? Kindly reconcile your submission with the prosperity-preaching concept of praying cancer away, or passing an exam just because of praying This is a bishop that doesn't understand the workings of the power of God. It's likely he hasn't seen or experienced a miracle even as a priest and bishop. How can a leader of the church talk down on praying cancer away? Aren't believers supposed to have such powers? Jesus said, "greater works shall ye do because I go to the Father", and we know that Jesus did what was more difficult than praying cancer away. How come Christians today see it as impossible to do miracles? There is a balance in all these things depending on people's level of faith. If your faith isn't strong to pray cancer away, go to hospital. But the fact remains that people have done that before and got healing. And by the way, cancer isn't even such a good example to be used by the bishop cos most people with cancers that go to the doctors only get a little prolongation of their lives. Doctors often don't have a perfect solution to most cancers. |
