I read sometime ago that there was a University in the U.S where Yoruba was one of the foreign languages a student could opt to study, instead of French or whatever languages,

Its a couple of Nija Art professors who put together the course. I read that news like 2004

is it true? has anyone heard of the same news?

its still the same old place. They need friggin ACs in there. As soon as i got off the plane, the heat that attacked me from the tunnel made me realise i was in nigeria. This was just in January, i was so irritated when i got there.
Its not only heat attack. People attack, missing baggage is the problem. My own bag got missing, spent 1hr searching for the bag after landing. Later, i had to go to their ogas office upstairs, where someone advised i should go check out and if possible, "see" the oga.

I was so surprised, I found my bag right where it was described. How they knew where I was coming from, I didnt know. I had to part with a 5,000 bucks(JYen) though.

I observed such too, when peeps relate to me, coz they feel this guy doesnt understand the local dial, so everybody begins to speak English, hoping to impress somehow. On the other hand, isnt it strange that after they begin to speak their english, and they want to say something they think you wont understand, then they tell themselves in yoruba for example "i dont want him to hear what i want to say, so im speaking yoruba, ehen, blah blah, blah" and im right by them, and in my mind, im like, what the hell do this guys think they are talking about? grin grin grin
FoodRe: Is It Right To First Eat Meat When Eating ? by kimba(m): 6:56am On Apr 24, 2006
@bolex,

yup, me too, I heard that one too.

In fact this is the way I heard it, that in the olden days, the way to catch a thieft was to give them food, and that theives usually eat the meat first, and that for example the thief was given rice and whatever, he would use his hand to pickout/eat the meat(not a spoon)  before using the spoon to eat the rice. grin grin grin grin grin grin

So till today, i eat my food first and even if its the meat left, i still use my spoon/fork to pick my meat,  grin grin

Although i know it isnt true, i just can't use my hand to pick meat and eat, except i have to consiously force myself, what a world!!! just so funny how those their little tricks stuck in my head grin grin grin

Christianity EtcRe: What If There Is No Afterlife? by kimba(m): 4:47am On Apr 24, 2006
If there is no afterlife, then we are all gunners,

@Seun
There was no before life, therefore there will be no afterlife. Simple!
How certain were you that there was no "beforelife". Based on what you read, on based on first-hand info you were part of?

John1: 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Yes, there was a Beginning
- The Bible affirms that the world has not always been here. Things are not "as they always have been". Scientists who understand things like the Law of Thermodynamics will tell you that this law shows that there was a beginning to the world as we know it.

God is Eternal
- Though the world had a beginning, God has always existed. He was there in the beginning. God is the uncaused cause, the one who has always been and always will be.

God brings meaning out of Chaos
- We read that the world was formless and empty. God took that which was nothing and made it something. He took what was purposeless and made it purposeful. God is the architect of our world. He is the Creator.

Whatever has a beginning must have an end.
- The Bible tells us about the end of time. The Bible encourages believers to be ready. The Bible tells of of an afterlife. There is no reincarnation: "man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment" (Heb. 9:27, NIV). Both good and bad will be raised to face judgement, Paul says in Acts 24:15 "there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked."

Jesus affirmed conscious reward after death: to the thief on the cross "today you will be with me in paradise." (Luke 23:43) Jesus also spoke of a man who "died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham's bosom" (Luke 16:22). Again, "When the dead rise, they will be like the angels in heaven." (Mark 12:25)

In a statement almost universally accepted as a reference to death, Paul says we "would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord." (2 Cor 2:cool

In the Old Testament, Job stated in what is generally considered a statement about resurrection (i.e. life after death) that he believed "after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes-I, and not another." (Job 19:26,27)

Much more could be said, but to sum up the traditional Christian position: everyone lives once then is judged and experiences eternal reward or eternal punishment after death.
Christianity EtcRe: To Tithe or Not to Tithe? by kimba(m): 4:18am On Apr 24, 2006
@Allenpowered
, I believe that one should give what one wants to give, it may be more than the tithe for all I care, but one should not be compelled to pay tithes.
Yes i get your point, but look at it like this: The OT people which we have as references to the subject of tithing were not compelled. They knew what was expected of them, according to the Law of God.

The modern day Christians are compelled(i would rather use the word encouraged, coz it will be extremely wrong for any pastor to be punishing anyone becoz of tithe issues) because they are so much in-tune with sin and the cares of the world, that they have forgotten what God expects. Many of them dont personally read the Bible. They live their lives based on whatever the pastor says during church meetings, the reason: a decline in interest about things of God. Thats where the problem is.
Christianity EtcRe: How Does God Talk to People? by kimba(m): 4:05am On Apr 24, 2006
@kismat
My point (not argument) is that God has nothing to talk to us about. Through the prophets we have received his message and it is up to us to read (seek knowledge) and worship him accordingly. What you claim to be God talking to you is  nothing but conscious guiding you during your decision making process.
I disagree with your point. You should have said it like this: "God has nothing to talk to me about", specifying only yourself. For you to go around with your belief as stated above, that God speaks to no one, is for me to I conclude you don't believe in God in the first place, neither do you believe in His Word, the Bible, because its the Word of God, and it contains what God has to say.

The truth is God has something to tell you, its you that doesnt have a listening ear, and thats where the problem is. Yes, the prophets have revealed the message, Yes, they have passed it down to us, however, the application of a message in my life might quite differ from the application in another persons life. God might definitely have a message for me that you don't need to know about, so He'll speak to me.

and, I find this verrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyy quite proud of you to say?
ok guys, what does your talking God tell you that we don't already know?
"How many of you" are you talking about? Whats your number? whats the rank? can you do battle with God? Does your group know everything - methinks you know nothing yet, you know what they call "omni-nothings". You know what: If you claim to know already whatever God is telling anybody, then you're placing yourself at par with God. I believe you know where Lucifer is now, he was cast out of Heaven becoz of pride.

And besides, as you could make the address "your talking God", I reaffirm my position that you have no regard for God at all. Ok fine, i take you up on that, my God is talking, your own god keeps his mouth shut, methinks you're some Idol worshipper bowing down before make-shift gods of wood and stone. Thats why they don't talk, isnt it, and in this age of technology, you could put some devices, microphones in there, and let it go wireless!!  grin grin grin

Ezekiel 3:27bBut when I speak to you, I will open your mouth and you shall say to them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says.' Whoever will listen let him listen, and whoever will refuse let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house.
get that?  cheesy

Christianity EtcRe: How Does God Talk to People? by kimba(m): 3:43am On Apr 24, 2006
@Greatpeter
God talks to people in many ways.

1) Through His word (the holy bible) - Logos.
2) Through revelation by the spirit of God- Rhema
3) Through dream.
4) Also trance is one of the ways.
Yup you're right!!!
let me add
5) through your conscience - this was Gods first avenue to communicate with man. However, many people's consciences are today "seared with a hot-iron" that they cannot hear God speak. Many have deadened their consciences as a result of unbridled sin and deafness to the Spirit.
6) Through prayer - genuine prayer.
7) Through his present day messengers, you have to be careful though, there are a whole lot of fakers, messengers who were not sent, messengers without a message from God.
cool There is no absolute way God speaks to man(Sinner or saint). It depends on your relationship with God and the state of your heart. Its like this:some kids need to be spanked before "getting the picture", others need "plain man to man talk".

A proof of God speaking to you is to double-check whatever you think God is saying with His word. He will never tell you to do anything that would result in disobedience to the Bible

@Reverend
How are you sir? You havent replied my enquiries as regards to your Church and your doctrines. And Im quite surprised why you focus on bashing everything about God while you earnestly hold on to your Mary Magdalene false Doctrines. Do you know God is looking at you?

@babymine
What kind of question is this?
Ive come to observe that wherever you find "Reverend" and "Jagunlabi" on the same thread, weird questions like this are bound to erupt.

@Jagunlabi
Im quite impressed about all the info you are presenting right and left. Its proof enough that you read the Bible. But suffice me to say that all knowledge holed up in one's head without useful application is but a waste. Why do you read about what you dont want to believe in.

In answer to the question on the thread,
Job 5:8 I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:
9 Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:
10 Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:
11 To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.

Job 9:2 I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?
Job 9:10 Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.
11 Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.
12 Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?

Job 11:7 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?
8 It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?
9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

Job 26:6 Hell is naked before him, and destruction hath no covering.
7 He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
8 He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.
9 He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it.
10 He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.
11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.
12 He divideth the sea with his power, and by his understanding he smiteth through the proud.
13 By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.
14 Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?

Job 36:26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.
27 For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:
28 Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.
29 Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?

Job 37:5 God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.

Job 37:23 Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.

Psalms 40:5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

Psalms 139:4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

Psalms 139:17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

Psalms 145:3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

Psalms 147:5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

Ecclesiastes 3:10 I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

Ecclesiastes 8:17 Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea farther; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.

Ecclesiastes 11:5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.

Isaiah 40:28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Romans 11:33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?
35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

Psalms 145:3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

Psalms 147:5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
