@Medube Nice kid, cute, as if I should begin carrying her around as my next baby doll!!!! Please take care of her. You said shes 1-7, you better create her a nick on Nairaland before someone comes grabbing her name!!!! hey, and i really like this pic in her yellow small kaftan, i believe thats a kaftan. Can I suggest her a middle name: Miss Photogenic |
Yes O, in todays world, the Church has to play its part and demand all the kind of certificates possible just to make sure they(the Church) doesnt cause problem for some unborn children. exampe: we have a lot of sickle cellers in the nation nowadays, which maybe if those couples had received the right medical advice, their kids wont be in such a mess today. Agree with Zahymaka, based on the couples if they are both positive. |
@my2cents You know really in Nigeria, you can really find a job to pay you that amount: and the job description will make you do the wrong things. like the Youth Corper that worked for El Rufai who was about to be investigated by the EFCC(sometime last year). They said she collects 1-million naira per month. Image? Youth Corper? she fled to the U.S Now if she collected 1-mil/month as a Youth Corper, lets ask the question: what was her job description? what will be her salary level if she had completed 1-yr of NYSC |
@busta I don't want to offend anybody neither do I want to offend God. Maybe I am wrong, but I think "Deeper Lifers" kind of discriminate against other churches as well as they are too quick to judge people.hi Busta, there are a whole lot of people naturally with a judgmental attitude, whether or not the talk or the situation is about religion or even the secular. thats one point. Ive interacted with people from other denominations as well, and while they think they are making a point, they are outrightly judging someone else, Another is that perhaps, the Deeper Lifers that you could have come across/seen discriminating against other churches, did not know how to express what they wanted to say. Its a matter of presentation, you know. Its possible for me to present you the best food in the world in the dirtiest of plates/vessels. which would make the whole thing repulsive to you, right. The same is true vice-versa. The Church doesnt teach anyone to discriminate. What are we discriminating against anyway. The Bible is not about Church, or pastor or anyother thing, its about you, the Word of God and God Himself. But ofcourse, we have to tell one another the truth. If I see someone physically drowning in water, it will be very wrong for me to give a report to another person saying "i found out that the man was swimming very slowly". The truth is at the time i saw him, he was drowning. and to the drowning person, he must know, o boy, if you dont get out of there, you're a gonner, i mean putting things in right perspective. still on the descrimination, you know pastor Kumuyi even allows non-members in conferences. I think twas in Feb when he came to Abuja, and held a 3-day conference with a Crusade. At the beginning of the conference he asked to see those who were non-members, i was surprised man, they were twice the number of members that attended. In fact, he was very delighted. Now if you see a DLifer descriminating against another Christian, while you know Kumuyi himself doesnt, you know that that particular DLifer has a personal problem. abi. |
Seun, thanks jo, Nairaland is a great idea. My own problem is that when i go home, im still thinking about all the posts ive replied, thinking maybe someone has replied them again, added something new, and what did this person say, what was that persons view, maybe i should have said it like this or that, maybe twould make more impact etc, I consider the internet as my major vice. I remember when i was at NYSC camp, i couldnt check my mail for 3 straight weeks - o boy, i was almost having hypertension. My head was just ringing email, email, email, as if the whole world were sending me emails at every minute, as if my whole email box was already full and the chairman of yahoo already sent me a warning email, hey your mailaddr will be deleted tomorrow morning if you dont, twas as if there was already an i-am-a-dead-man if-i-do-not reply email languishing hopelessly in my mail box and the whole time was running out if i do not reply. Finally, we got our call-up letters, and you know what, rather than go submit mine, i went straight to the nearest cafe. Did i find any useful email there, i guess just about 3. Immediately, a smile came on my face, twas like i had passed an exam. But with Nairaland its different. I would just say, ok, let me check whats happening, i wont reply now, ill just read the topics and think about what my input will be, but oh my God, there is always an i-cant-but-not-contribute-to-this-one topic waiting as the default page opens, posted by somebody, and by the time I read it, wow, everybody has made a reply and it seems my own input is what that particular topic is waiting for before the whole world goes hey-wire, and so i go banging at my keyboard again, just like ive just done now. ps help me, am I Crazy!!!! I guess we could fish out some doctor-who story for one of the threads, with so many twists and turns, great idea for a thread huh, someone start a story and everyone must continue with short paragraphs, hey thats a great idea, then lets see how it all ends. |
I completely agree with Zeb, The problem of Nigeria is basically Greed, let me explain: I say greed because the average Nigerian is greedy, The average Nigerian seeks to gain knowledge so as to become independent, be self-established to the point he'll take over his masters/tutors wealth/possession/ know how, and he wont have to take instructions from anyone. The idea of gaining knowlege for the purpose of using it to help others is not there. Ask any Nigerian child "what do you want to be in future"? he/she will tell you a profession that he/she can later rely upon. A doctor prefers to quickly gain experience and set up his own Medical facility. The same goes for dentists, etc. Nigerian lawyers prefer private practice.Nigerian engineers prefer consultancy. Everybody wants to start a Business. Even in the religious circle, every-pastor has a business doing. Everybody wants to establish so that "when I grow old, ill have something to fall back on". Nothing wrong with that mentality, but it usually causes a problem of greed later on, because with such a mindset, all one is looking for is Money, Money, money. And, Money is the root of all evil, emotion is lost, reasoning is trampled upon. The thought of what i will eat, what i will do, how i will get money, has really destroyed the emotional and rational fabric of most people in Nigeria. The truth is the Money is not so hard to get. Greed leading to the love of money and wealth, has led to disunity among the people, this is why everyone wants a piece of the national cake. The truth is where is the national cake. And this is the reason why "the state you are from" now becomes a major factor is getting jobs in some places, because everyone wants to put a relative in a position of power, for future purposes so that the goody-goody will continue revolving round their table alone.By the time each person belongs to his/her own state, who will stand up and say he/she is a Nigerian? nobody. Thats what you call self-destruction!!! This compounds the reason why the south will not agree with the west, nor with the east etc, the problem of Nigeria is not the government. Its the people. There can't be a government, without a people. Since the people are not united, are not ready to unite, the govt can do anything and get-away with it. Obasanjo can wake up tomorrow morning and increase the fuel price again and surely, nothing will come out of it. Everyone will just cushion the situation and try to find a way out for himself alone, and not for the people around him. At the end of the day, we'll all say that God is in control. Which God? God is not in control of corruption and evil. He has given us the brain to make things work out for ourselves. If we decide not to use that brain, theres nothing He can do. |
@onanugaola theres no need to be confused, annoyed and belittled when you hear/read that Nigeria is a 3rd world country. The case with Nigeria is the case of someone who was placed on a bed to sleep, but willingly got up and slept on the cold floor. @jakumo, thanks for the enumeration. You hit 12 solid nails on their head!!!!!!!!!!!! And a note about that your #9. I wonder why dead bodies lying helplessly on the road are now rampant in Lagos, mostly beggars/drug addicts who might have passed out during the night. One was funny tho, I was going to Ikeja some about 3 Sundays ago, and twas around 1pm, and i think i just passed that Anthony overhead bridge, when I saw an ambulance parked on the main road, by the left side and behold there was a dead body on the floor. The boot was opened, and i guess they driver and another guy were repairing the tires, i mean the dead man was not even placed in a coffin, for Christ sake, yet they were carrying him inside an ambulance, i was like, yeparipa!! anyway, thats Nigeria for you o!!! @Rottweiler We should be classified as UNDER-DEVELOPED NATION. periodAbeg, you too harsh o. Lets just put it like this: At least we have developed to an extent, thats why you can see roads and bridges. But as of now, we have STOPPED-DEVELOPING, so we can call ourselves a STOPPED-DEVELOPING NATION!!!!! ![]() If only the oyinbos have something they called 4th world nation, i believe they should have deputized Nigeria as the group leader. @vanunu If we call Nigeria a developing country, what the do we call , India, Singapore, China, Ghana and South Africa. In fact what we are having in Nigeria is unsustainable growth without development.I believe you dont want to compare Nigeria with India, SIngapore and China. They have gone far. Even Ghana and SOuth Africa have left us behind. Forget Ghana sef, talk of Namibia. Na remote control we dey use open gate for Namibia, as far as '96. In Ghana, you'll find relative Peace and harmony. 70% of the prisoners there are Nigerians(armed robbers). Their education is far ahead of ours. The kind of bed wey some student dey sleep on, the person wey dey work for bank for Nija no fit sleep for dat kinda bed. What surprises me most is that majority of their houses dont have burglary bars/iron weldings that make our houses in Nija look like prisons. The number of generators in the city of Lagos is more than the number of houses. whereas A country like South Africa makes use of 40,000 mega watts of electricity, Nigeria produces only mega watts3,600This one na insult o, how can the number of generators be more than the number of houses? yeh. Its true sha, coz i myself, I have two, just in case one of them pafuke, With the level of noise that Nigerians have to suffer nowadays, the present generation will be going deaf at 50yrs of age. |
you might want to write an application for salary increase. I did that before for a former job, actually took a risk. I wrote my application for salary increase and mailed it to my boss. He mails be back asking me why i wrote the letter blah blah blah, and I mail back that "i really believe that i deserve an increase, besides ive saved the company from a lot of losses blah blah blah, and besides, im getting better offers from other companies even tho i never applied". So he mails back and said, if im getting better offers, what am i waiting for?, so i mail him back again, with my email title as "intent to quit, " and one of the reasons in the mail was the fact that i asked for a raise, for which he was not disposed to approve, and that I loved my job and the company(which made me to apply for a raise in the first place, rather than accept other offers), and that since he wasnt disposed to give me a raise, im left with no choice to accept a pending offer, from a competitor in the same line of business, The truth was i had no offer on hand, but i just wanted to live on the edge for a while(sometimes, your heart just hardens like a stone). Two days later, the accountant mailed me back with new details about the increase. yahoooooooooooooooo! got a raise. twas a risk, it worked for me, tmight not for u!!! |
@daffman You're even lucky the person started with asl, someone started by asking me 'please i'm looking for a sugarmummy'wow, straight to the point. And why is it sugarmummy, not saltmummy. Usually, maybe someone liked your post/reply and he/she just felt a kinda friendship/closeness between you and him/her and wanted to chat. Hey, Seun, ha about a Chat room on Nairaland!! |
just like some ppl have said, the reason why many youths run away from the Deeper Life Bible Church is because they want the Liberty to do what they want to do what they want to do. On the other hand, its rightly observed, a lot of Mature people attend the Church, should we put two and two together, would it be right to say Mature minded people can find the True Gospel most convenient. Perhaps maybe because they know that life is too short to waste any longer. The reason why I appreciate the Deeper Life Bible Church is that in a generation of vipers like the one we are presently in, they still teach the Word of God, in all truth. @Akolawole Youths prefer to go to some churches where "everything" is accepted. The greater truth is that: God Invites everybody to Heaven, but Heaven will not accept everybody(sinners). Whoever chooses to remain in sin(like youths that run away from church and live in sin) will not be accepted in Heaven. @otoks the funny aspect is that the ladies are not allowed to perm their hair; they are made to look all like widows while their men are suited up.Are you saying that until a woman perms her hair and wears all the earings etc, makes up and down, she looks like a widow? ehen. Let me ask you something the following: - How many earings did Mary, the Mother of Jesus put on? - does any Biblical record, or any historical fact ever give us any info that Mary wore Trousers or faded jeans? why is this mode of dressing accepted by churches today? - How many perms here and there did she do, and what was the color of her lipstick. - did history potray her as someone who wore miniskirts, hugging pants, backless, frontless and all the g-strings whatsoever, graceless and scanty clothings that the ladies of today wear and feel cool? - what is the definition of covering your unclothedness? does it include see through clothes?, i mean lets be realistic. The kind of skirt that a woman puts on that doesnt allow her to climb the bus, does that form decent clothing? or the kind that makes big-eyed men begin to whistle up and down, do you think the Mother of Jesus could have put on such? Do you think she dressed in such a way to make Roman soldiers carry her around for a ride in their wagons? She didnt do any of the above, besides, there were many women in her time, but God in Heaven looked down on the whole earth, searched and searched and picked just one person, Mary. Dont you think that she must have been someone of great virtue? Im not preaching about Mary here, im just trying to set an example. Man likes to live by an example, especially good ones. Now if we truly live by examples, and Churches will follow examples, i think they can clearly see an example of how a woman should comport herself. Let the guys take a look at Jesus. Was he a truant, NO. was he a roughian, NO. didnt he dress respectively, He did. how did he talk, was he a street fighter like many young boys today? was he disobedient to his earthly parents and to his heavenly father? NO. He gave His life for the whole of Man. That was the assignment God gave to Him, and He carried it out in detail. Did he dress up like a hooligan? If Jesus is the ultimate example for all youths today, then the world will have less of a problem. abi. Our fore-fathers never had these kind of problems we have today. Where was the lipstick of my grandmother, how about yours. Our grand-fathers might have had many wives, but at least they married them, not fornicated with them and dump them. How many bastards did they rear up? Werent the homes then better than what we have today? How many times did a man with 6 wives divorce one of his wives? didnt they rear their children in love and harmony? where was the hate in such large families, as we have hate among blood-brothers today? our grand folks never knew how to read and write, some never read the bible, some had the Bible read to them, and that was only on special occassions when the English speaking master came to town, they didnt hear as much doctrines as are free and available today, how many deliverances, crusades, etc, did they attend and run to every now and then. Didnt they live free from sickness and the petty problems that shake man today? They were guided by their conscience. Doesnt that tell us that God is in every humans conscience, if only they will listen? Twas this love after gold, jewerly etc, that brought down Gods wrath on Israel as Moses came down from the mount with the tables of the commandments. The origin of all these jewerly and makeup is of an idolatrous fact. In the past, a woman who wore lipstick was suspected to be a prostitute, since it had to do with the color of an sexually-aroused females(u know what), thats a bit of history. sorry if anyone is offended, but thats the truth. i could go on with other details, but let me pause here: Maybe we could say Deeper Life is over doing(if its possible) and over preaching the righteousness stuff, but dont you think its better to be too Holy(and get to heaven) than not to be Holy enough. Remember, each of us will stand before God at the end time. Especially here in Nigeria, i think we need a Church who can preach the Word of God like it should be preached. It is better to score 101% in an exam than to score 99, if 100 was the required passing mark. The reason why the Disciples were called Christians was a combination of how they physically dressed, how they looked, how they cut their hair, how they talked, smiled, lived, loved, related with humans around them, and the passion with which they spoke about who they believed in: Jesus. With regards to Restrictions: doesnt the Bible give its believers Restrictions? thats why the 10-commandments were right there in Genesis. Deeper Life or no Deeper Life, God will not ask you which chuch you went to. He will not forgive your unrighteousness if you say it was because your pastor did not teach you the word of God. You have the eyes to read, go read the Bible. Its everywhere, in every bookstore, free on the web. Read it and obey it. It will not be me-and-my-friends idea, and no one is going to go to heaven/hell because of somebody else. Just like bus-conductors in NIgeria are neither in or out of the vehicle thats moving, its not possible in the Bible. Its either you are for Christ or youre not. I personally do not approve of a church where everything goes. It would have been better if a person were a total idolater, than to be a Christian in a church where everything is accepted, where fornication and adultery is the order of the day. When I was small, even tho we didnt attend Deeper Life, he was so strict that I dont think that any Deeper Life daddy can do better, as per rearing up children. This must be some Church, dont u think You can imagine church members getting sexually aroused in the church.Imagine after church, you begin to pray for forgiveness, for lusting after a half-naked lady. Its better to sin outside the church, not inside. And a lot of youth and adult today who attend these kinda churches today go there primarily to look for the opposite sex. Ask them, they'll testify. Look at what happens after service, its either business men/women gather together for business talk and begin distributing call-cards, while the young one pair together boy and girl, after Church. Tell me that they will remember what the pastor just said? its impossible. @Multioption I must say that Deeper Life is to the extreme for the singular fact that you're looked upon as sinner and wordly if you dress gorgeously.Dont worry, pls forgive the Deeper Life, but on a more important note: Does God, the Author of the Bible look at a worldly person as a Saint? If God and the Bible wont count a worldy person as a saint, doesnt that connote theres something else to the whole story? And where does the "worldly" perspective come from, is it not to connote that there its something different from another kind of lifestyle? what is that kind of lifestyle? A Godly lifestyle. So we have those that are 'Godly' and those that are 'Worldly'. Which do you think the Deeper Life presents in its doctrines, and which of the two is 'right' according to the Bible, if you believe in it. sorry for your perception @ Deeper Life Bible Church have different views about so many things they make Xtianity so cumbersome that it makes me wonder if God is so hard definitely not.Christianity is not so Cumbersome, and I Deeper Life doesnt in no way make Christianity cumbersome. Christianity is so much fun, and its a great way to live. Imagine having the constant feeling that you are a Child of God, that God loves you, is watching over you, imagine telling the truth without much effort, living without suspecting anyone, and trusting that you have a ready backup 24/7: God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit. Imagine God speaking to you, telling you what to do, where to go, how to answer a difficult question. I myself have a testimony of how i scored a perfect score in an Advanced Mathematics exam, which I never read for, and for which twas like the 8-page solutions were practically dictated to me during the 3hours exam, only me, in the class, without anyone else hearing, imagine Praying and having instant answers, imagine living for years without visiting the Hospital, imagine having a premonition of events, and for which you avoid without stress, these are some of what God does His children. Its not all about donts and donts and donts. What if there were no rules in the world. The problem is that the truth is very hard to stomach, so people kinda go where they are told what they want to hear-which is not always the truth. Yes asange, wahala dey, and the wahala be say even when people see truth korokoro, they refuse to believe it. The Bible is now a free-for-all, yet many people dont believe it. Thank God for Kumuyi and the Deeper Life. I attend the Deeper Life. I took my Bible and read what God said and as far as ive searched, its the Bus that can get me where I want to get to - Heaven. |
hey, do you know that Oprah Winfey is a Nigerian? Her real name is Oparah Winifred!! ![]() |
so everybody replying to this is looking for a job? na wah o, happy searching anyway, @Seun, maybe you could start a thread where job-seekers will be allowed to post a summary, with specific summary details etc, which would be uniform for everyone that posts. |
if the woman is one that grew up on the streets, then maybe she'll have the GUTS!!! |
network not responding ![]() |
@drealnoni Pls how did you do it? you said you could browse the nairaland from your phone. @Seun, I use glo, does it work on glo too, i use myX5 |
@ka, @omon @gigitte hey thanks, for all your replies, i appreciate them, truly some info, wow, really, obalende, i never heard of such, nice stories behind them. I think this must be some good research topic, huh pls can any other lagosians help, others ive heard mile 12, iyano ipaja, anthony, palmgrove, mafoluku, orile, once i hear more, ill post |
its like this: - the more you share, the more you have. - many peeps are angry at software companies - fired-staff of software companies really like to get back at the former companies and do a lot of things - Many of these softwares whos keygens are given for free have been re-compiled just like the original one, with a little of code inserted somewhere in-between software and the geeks that do it do it really nicely that you will never know. They might not outrightly take control of your computer coz they are the kind-hearted hackers, but ask me, how am I to prove to myself that a crazy idea works, like i want to find out the computer specs of whoever downloads it, and uses it(just for me to know how compatible my software is with different PC specs all over the world), - if there were no hackers, there'll be no challenges in the software industry - some of these software are already standards |
the reason why I love Nairaland is that there are so many Special Advisers on Love Related Issues. If I were to say 3 thns, I'll say think hard, make a choice. Use your head and your heart. |
@drag_on you better drag-on somewhere else. Its more like you had an argument with someone else and you got so dissed, you couldnt make through with your argument, that you just had to let it out somewhere. After you quote the Bible very well, you begin to talk foolishness. What is your own Faith, Christian, Catholic, Muslim or what, pls tell us. And are you talking to Pentecostals/Prostestants/Christians? and whoever, and you claim to have John as your Favorite?, let me give you one assignment. Please go and read the whole book of John. After reading it, come and tell us what you have read. You really had nothing to say, did you? |
Nigerian Movies, Not me, in fact, I dont think we can say we have a Movie Industry, its all crap, the same actors, the same lines, the same everything. 300 movies in two weeks = a whole lot of crap. Anyway, at least we are following the foot-steps of Bollywood. Yes Zahymaka, the posters tell you the whole story, the titles are the most anonying to me, especially if its a story about a man getting another mans wife, everything is spiritualized? too much of juju and evil power. My question is: Cant these peeps just act out something else. Ive not watched too many South African movies, but the few nigerian ones that ive watched, im already tired of it. |
yes, me too, Nairaland, should have the "Naira Feel" Yes, a Naira sign won't be bad, buttons should probably be naira-oriented, ill post more ideas later |
@sade I believe wherever I am and I have peace is my home.Yes, O Those who want to go back and contribute well goodluck but how many people has actually contributed and if at all you contribute how will it show that you've contributed. That is even if they will allow you to contribute, Abi @rasheedah , i want to study medicine and believe me there's no way I'm working in this country,Please, come coz we need a lotta doctors, everybody here is sick!!!! @larger_20 I plan on doing my PHD in nigerian universityIf you have the opportunity of doing your PhD abroad, abeg, finish all the acada wellu wellu. SO you just bring your card-board and begin to fling it around. Here: Research in Nigeria is Research about the Past, not about the possibilities for the future. I met someone about two yrs ago who told me a 45-minute tale of how he used and wasted 7yrs on a Masters degree in a Univ in Nigeria here. Reason: the first and only PhD in his department was the definition of Frustration. He wangled his way, went abroad, finished his masters degree and PhD in 3yrs. - except its your senior brother that will give you the PhD o, who knows, leg pass leg for Nija!!! @mochafella Nope,You said it right, now, none of those are available here. @funloving For those who say they want to contribute to making Nigeria great note, unless the government in a country is well organised NO INDIVIDUAL EFFORT will achieve anything much. There are lots of great and idealistic people in Nigeria. How much have they been able to contribute ?Pastor funloving, please tell us again. Its not only good governance we need, we need good people. The problem is not only with the leadership. The people been led also have a problem. The poor man on the street is corrupt. The rich man changing figures is corrupt. If the leader would not follow the corrupt path, he'll be in danger, pretty soon. @badman888 don't mind going back to work, but am sick and tired of hearing people say that we should go back home and change the country, why arent the politicians changing it first then people would follow by their exampleNigeria is a long way far off from Changing. I dont believe in the idea of people saying governance, governance, bad-leadership. The truth is: The people been led always more than the leaders. In Nigeria with a population of 120million, if the census still says so, we dont have 60million politicians. We dont even have up to 1-million. I believe its the 119million who should change the remaining 1-million, and not the other way around. @my2cents if I am paid N10million a yearAre you going to be robbing 1-bank/month so you could be getting your N10million/month? for how many yrs would you work to be earning 1mil/month average, if you go work for niger-delta, you would be looking right and left so that you wont be the next kidnap victim. By that time, the U.S wont be on hand to rescue you, because once Nigeria brandishes you as a kidnapped Nigerian, regardless of whether uve got U.S Citizenship or not, O boy, you're on your own in your father land!!! hehehehe @oasis My point exactly. Nigeria is earning $1.3+ billion a week from guaranteed oil sales alone. Yet with all that free income, workers don't get paid salaries on time.* How many former civil-servant pensioneers are lining up everyday at the Civil service? FYI, some of these guys-pensioneers were counted right there during this last census. They have no home to go to. When it takes 3-weeks to "process" a single piece of paper, and this new processing is not going to reflect in the records until the next 3-months and its until then(3-months) time that another mistake will be discovered, its just better for them to sleep there and become pests in-order to hasten things up. * Now, If the people that are currently agile, young and active are not getting paid salaries, how much less those retired oldies. * Former Millitary/police men - pensioneers, disabled in service are also on the queue for yrs. So why wont those still in service do all they can to wreck everything before they leave, grab all the money they can, with the hope that they wont need to come and fall-in-line for some unsure pension. |
@vexxy thanks for the topic, now, at @nigerians studying abroad, since the post was directed to y'all, Abeg, after your acada, if you have an opportunity to work, go ahead o, in-fact, find the opportunity to get a good stable job. Nigeria is only as good as a vacation spot. 1) The work environment The problem with Nigeria is that no matter how much you love your country, and you want to do something good, regardless of your genuine intentions, people will still want to bring you down. In fact, its like there are some kinda peeps whose job-description is just to destroy the good-intentions that others have. If we can get rid of these peeps, Nigeria will be a better place. I have a lot of stories, having been in the shoes of those who studied abroad, and worked abroad after graduation, and came back to work at home. I had decided one morning: what am I even doing here, if ive made so much impact in my profession in a foreign land, in this environment, and in such a short time, i believe i can do ten-times more in my papaland where my people are. But alas!!!!! The story hasnt been funny o. The work environment alone here(Nija) would put you off in one minute, if you're used to everybody been nice, approachable, easy to get along with, encouraging, challenging you to do your best, appreciative of effort, interested in you, etc., i mean people that wont have any ill feelings once they see you, when you land in a Nija company/office, the story will just change. wolaaaa Honestly, its only in Nigeria that ive begun to pray every-morning that God should protect me from my office-mates, i mean serious prayer(binding and loosing) Even the slowpoke or the beggar on the street has enemies, how much more you, if people know that you have the brain. 2) The Job itself, As a foreign graduate, if you have good connections, use them to the maximum. Get where you wanna be and get there fast. If you study courses in the extra-terrestial, they might have no application here in Nigeria. Technology available in Nigeria is like scratching the surface of an egg, you wont get to do the nitty-gritty-get-your-hands-dirty. I was very ashamed when I bought a Zinox computer(rooting for the fatherland), decided to register the installed WinXP online, and I was told that the Liscense had expired. I was so surprised. I called Zinox, only for them to be transferring me from one manager to the other, till today, they havent answered my question. I have since disposed of the woeful PC. 3) Salary even at close to 300k/month now, i still earned more as an undergraduate. so to foreign-graduates, if your middle name is Charity, like mine, pls home is your next destination. |
sorry, posted twice, deleted this one, see post blow: |
the best is that one prays that you as a Man, never comes to a point where you will have to choose between either of your mother or your wife. My policy: who did you know first. My mother has been with me since day one of my existence. My wife came in when I was about 20 something years old. One definitely seniors the other, and I in the middle have a responsibility to both. So I pray never to have to choose between both. But its well said: - If your mother dies, you have lost a treasure which can never be replaced. - If you loose your wife, you can marry another. - You can never divorce your mother, but you can divorce your wife. I love my mother, but I have to love my wife. I love my wife, but I cant but love my mother too. so really where am I, i cant choose either, i will rather stick to both. |
@Seun Dear Nairaland Member,O Boy, if you start "dating" and making babies on dates, that one na serious problem o, but its good sha, 1-baby per date. Abeg, na only you go "replenish the earth O" cheers and April Fool Ya'll So what do you call someone whos name is April? is that person a fool? |
@hot-angel see, its actually women that have the problem, not men. If a more gorgeously dressed woman is passing by another woman, the other woman will look at this gorgeous woman from head to toe, as if she suddenly fell in love. Ifs its a king-size man stud that passed by, twill be the same thing. Have you ever seen a man looking at another man, as in the head turning from total left to total right? Ladies: A man could be your greatest treasure if you know how to handle them. If you fear that your treasure will slip out of your hand, it will slip out. |
@roflmao so im a confused homie? wow, thanks man. as you have chosen to call me your son, let me refer to you as my old man!!! My old man speaks my old grand grandma's mothertongue. So how many medals have you gotten for itThe only reason for your all DEFENSIVE approach is because you do not speak your mother's tongue and I'm glad I touched your emotions real bad.Sorry sir, you didnt touch any emotion of mine. I was just trying to defend the person who opened up the topic, because your comments hit on her and everyone concerned. Ok, so I put up a defensive approach? did I do anything wrong? am I supposed to be all to laid out and allow you to promote your offensive ideas. Okay, fine, I don't speak my mother-tongue, what the heck. Have i gaiined anything out of it? NO. Have i lost anything out of it? NO. It didnt add an extra hair to my head. What kind of PATRIOT wouldn't speak his local language? The Kind of PATRIOTS that did not grow up in an environment conducive enough to learn their local language are the kind of PATRIOTS that don't speak their local language. Does the fact that these PATRIOTS do not understand/even speak their local language make them less PATRIOTS? NO. Does the fact that some PATRIOTS who speak their local language make them better PATRIOTS. NO!! I'll give you an example: I have a of friend of Yoruba origin who grew up and lived in Ivory Coast and studied in Ghana. This guy not only understand and speak the Ivorians' local language, but also French, Ghana local language, English and surprise surprise, YorubaFYI, a considerable percent of Ghanians speak YORUBA!!! If you were to walk from Nigeria to Ghana(if you've got the stamina), and you did not know your way, and the only thing you understood was Yoruba, I tell you, you'll get to Accra and even to Kumasi safe and sound, because there are people(not nigerians, togolese, Seme peeps, etc) along all the borders that speak Yoruba, i mean the Konk yoruba, original, and if you interview them, they are not Nigerians. I ain't blaming kids who don't speak their language because some never had the opportunity to learn it because their parent/guardian, whose responsibility it is that they understand local languages, have alienated them from it.Fine, you are not blaming the kids who don't speak their language because they never had the opportunity. So who are you blaming then? their parents. Okay, by the time these kids grow up and become parents, if they themselves do not understand their local language, who are they to teach their own children their grandparents local language, I have an example if youwant to hear my story. Now who would you blame as not patriotic? is it the person who has been living outside Nigerian shores since 1960+ And you asking me to respond to post in my language is just a sign,Yes, at least to show your PATRIOTISM. I know that this is a global environment, but all the same you should have added a little "local touch" to your posts to show your level of patriotism. Let me give you examples: - theres an artist - a rapper that does his thing in pure Yoruba, I consider that to be patriotic. Theres another good artist that performs in Pure Hausa - I consider him to be Patriotic too. These peeps understand English, but their own style of doing their thing is the African way. Does his way of rapping make him a better rapper than those who do theirs in English? NO - the google project for which we have google searches in Yoruba, etc, and the african folks that contributed to it, I consider them patriotic. What is the probability that your search in google-yoruba wont be available in google-english? zero. everything is available everywhere. - there are a whole lot of Nigerian artists all around the world doing their thing in English. I consider them Patriotic too. Are they less patriotic than the pidgeon english rappers? No - there are a group of White folks migrating to Africa, and settling mostly in Ghana, they have resolved to wear only African clothes, live here in Africa, even changed their surnnames to AFrican names like Akpan, Nana etc, I consider them Patriotic, even if they are not Africans. Can you tell them they are not patriotic? All the Lebanese claiming Kano as their fatherland? are they patriotic? where is the govt official to tell them that they made a mistake. A lot of them now speak Hausa, and a lot of northern languages. Does that make them less a lebanese and more a nigerian? REASON: the world is globalizing, its becoming a smaller world each and every-single day, as we are having a common language, common currency, common everything. A lot of people migratiing to and fro, right and left, a lot of cultures mixing, intermarriages here, and there. Nigerians from the north grow up in the south, west, east, and wherever and viceversa and therefore the PATRIOTS who feel their understanding of a local language is a sign of PATRIOTISM should better find other banners to use to project themselves. Even today, Nigeria is getting to the point whereby the surnname you bear is not giving a conclusion as to the state you belong. Okay, here, i have an igbo surnname, I claim to be from Ondo-state, but I don't understand Yoruba!!, what is that to you? Am I patriotic!, I went to the state house in Abuja, told them my name and was allowed inside the gate. I got the same attention as everybody got, regardless of the surnname difference? do I care less about them, do they care more about me? I know a Nigerian family living in Hongkong, the father of the guy was born in Hongkong by a nigerian father and mother in Honkong. He practically grew up there. He met a nigerian lady who was also born in Hongkong, shes a halfcast(Nigerian-British). So they got married, working and still living in Hongkong, and just had their first child, a very cute boy. Yoruba by name, the 32yr old man doesnt speak a word of Yoruba, not even to talk of Pidgeon english. They are in Nigeria now for 3wks vacation, they even got counted by the census peeps. They even got the slip. Tell me, Are they Nigerians? Are they foreigners? Are they even patriotic. You decide. Therefore, there are a whole lot of things that one can do to promote, preserve his local culture etc, but to zero everything down on Language is to miss things out. And besides, here in Nigeria, we use English for our medium of Instruction in school, right. In China, pakistan and all the other countries you were mentioning, they use their language for basic education. Chinese always like going back to China for Christmas. If Indians can't go, they would gather together in a group of houses and celebrate together. Even there in the U.K, you see that these cultures practically live together, as in you can find a row of 5-8houses where all the occupants are indians etc. In Nigeria here, you can tell where Indians live in Lagos, go to Abuja and tell any taxi man you are looking for an Indian living in Maitama, he'll take you to where a group of indians live. You can pinpoint where a Chinese man lives. If a Chinese man starts living on a street, give it one year, another Chinese family moves in, and so on and so forth. Soon a China town is in breeding. They would do all their best to intermarry among themselves, except in few cases. Does Nigeria have the same mind-set? How many China-towns are in Nigeria, and how many nigerian villages(forget even about town) are in China. We don't have the same mindset as these people, our own is that we are black, anywhere we reach is HOME sweet home. Now for all these, who are you going to blame? our great-grandfathers we never knew. |
@BellaRouge Quote from: kimba on Yesterday at 10:19:37 PMIt doesnt scare me too, but you know, there are somethings that you must do/will be required to do/compelled to do, or if you are hesitant to do it, twill be done on your behalf and in your name, and from which you might not be able to disassociate from, and depending on your upbringing and convictions, you would rather not get into what you might not be able to get out from. |
@larger_20 hmm how do u know thusas a Nija JJC, i had been asking too many questions, so i was given a brief, and after that, i was like o boy, that one is a no-go-area o. |
