codemaniacs:I have come to believe that 90% of Nigerian youths outside the SE/SS area aged from 1 to 45 cannot accurately state the correct sequence of events that led to the war. People who want discuss politics but don't know how the war came about. Lol |
shamecurls:And if Gowon had not broken the Aburi agreement he signed with Ojukwu in Ghana, there would have been no war in the first place |
alade112:I can't believe some peeps are taking Lagos/Ibadan threads like this serious. |
The headline is misleading! He did not bash IPOB or Biafra. He only said: I must say that if anyone wants Biafra, he should be able to outline what we have in stock for a new nation Which is understandable. It is a rare thing to see an Igbo born indigene and son of the soil who will 'bash' Biafra. The few who do it are the politicians for selfish interests and those raised outside Igboland who have since lost touch with where they come from. Self determination is ingrained in Igbos. What I do not understand about the present crop of Nigerians who are against Biafra is that they are living witness to how Britain who made us "Nigerians" have used referendum twice in two years to determine its political unity. They used it in 2014 to allow Scotland to stay or opt out. The used it again a few weeks ago to opt out of Europe. But a Nigerian will be screaming "we must stay together or war!'. We have a very long way to go as Africans. |
This story is like 5 years old |
Were Igbos not Landlords in Nigeria when they left it in 1967? Small kids talking nonsense |
Controversialad:What is there to verify when I know my own custom? A non Igbo cannot be confered with the title of Igwe. End of story. |
These people and fake news! The didn't even bother to do there homework 1)The Goverment cannot confere an Igwe titile on anyone. Only the Ichie's or council of Chiefs can do that. 2)The Igwe title cannot be confered on a non Igbo. It is sacriledge An 'Igwe' has to be Igwe of somewhere in Igbo land. Where is the Hausa man the Igwe of? The mods should pull this thread down for being fake. |
oganlataofeek:That's true, but despite knowing this, it is a Yoruba man that will shout 'one Nigeria' the loudest. |
Genea:Well, if you're waiting for priorities to be right in Nigeria, then you will to wait a long time. The priorities of Nigeria won't ever be right because the 3 main ethnic groups are too different religiously, culturally and ideologically to ever be united. It's like someone who is hoping to get water from stone, it may eventually happen but it will be thousands of years. |
Genea:My take on it is that before Lord Lugard and British came, the Yoruba/Igbo/Hausa people were largely at peace with each other. Since Lord Lugard brought his message of 'one Nigeria', all three have been at each other's throats. If Britain who made us Nigerians can can allow Scotland the right to go or stay, then who are we to say that 'Nigerias unity is not negotiable'? Nigeria is long over due for renegotiation and if continue as we are, the country is most likely to implode |
mrkayusfit:Mr 'one Nigeria' troll, shift your a$$ somewhere else. We are talking about self determination here. It's not a discussion for kids or someone who has the "Lord Lugard made me a Nigerian" slave mentality. Independence is for men, not boys. Instead of you to pick up a broom and look for an Emirs palace in North to sweep, you are online wasting your MB |
Paretomaster:You are using Census figures that were highly discredited and rejected. There is no way Kano can be populated than Lagos |
Genea:Let me tell you something. Britain is 5th richest country in the whole world. Despite all the economic advantages of of being part of Britain, Scotland agitated for indepedence. Do you know why? Because the Scottish people were tired of being controlled and ruled by England and wanted to administer themselves which is their right. The British Government gave them a referendum. It was during the weeks and months leading up to the referendum that the Scots realised that voting for indepedence would mean not using the Pound and that it would also mean leaving the EU. A small majority then voted to stay in Britain. Now that Britain have voted to leave the EU, the Scots have vowed to hold a second referendum if Britain drags them out of the EU. So answer your question, the main reason people agitate for indepedence is to acieve self rule. Economics follows secondary |
Paretomaster:Lagos is estimated to have a population that is close to 25 million people. The entire North has a conservative population of 50 Million |
Oyegun must be suffering from Malaria if he thinks that APC stands any chance in the SE |
engrsyer:Why are you traveling? Just go into your room and shout 'Sai Baba!' Like you guys were doing last year. GEJ might not have been the best but at least under him, the economy was growing at 6%. Then all of you suddenly decided that a gworo chewing cattle rearer from Daura with a long history of incompetence is the answer to our prayer. |
fexti:It is funny that Africans and Nigerians now see a pictorial depiction of some of the methods Lord Lugard in making them 'Nigerians'. But that's not eve the worst part. The worst part is that when some Africans such as the Igbo, tried to reinvent themselves and shed the 'colonial title' of 'one Nigeria' by trying to administer themselves, the same Nigerians that Lugard did all this to came down to the East to repeat the same thing and killed 3 million. All for the same 'one Nigeria' that Lugard tortured and killed their forefathers for. There is something very wrong with us African |
Izumarock70:Eziokwu ka ikwuru. Mana.................. Ndi be Anyi anaghi anu ihe. O bu so mgbe ihe g'eme ha na ugwu-Awusa ka ha ga mata ihe. |
kolaaderin:States are not based based on land mass, but on population. Lagos is like half the size of the smallest Igbo state, Abia state, but the same Lagos has a population of half the entire North. Idealy, Anioma state should be the 6th Igbo state but powers that be have refused it. Anyway, whenever regionalism returns, we Igbos are going to dissolve all 5 states and end 'divide and rule' |
specimenC:Of course he would have to announce that the military had taken over. But collaboarators in the coup and investigations conducted after has since shown that Nzeogwu and co wanted to take over the country and make Awolowo president. Besides, there was no way Nzeogwu could have been president because he was just a major and had too many people senior to him in the armed forces. |
ConqueredWest:Really? I hope the two walking together will be Hausas and Yorubas so they can finally leave us Igbos alone. |
With Yoruba/Igbo/Hausa at each other's throats, how can Nigeria ever be like South Africa? A divided house never moves foward |
3 Trillion Naira? The way Nigerians mention money is shocking |
Integrity that has no WASC |
7lives:Prove that is Igbo land. You guys think that cheap Yoruba propaganda still works. I won't be surprised if those pictures are domewhere in Ibadan |
charix:What are you talking about? Ofe is not Oil in Igbo |
StOla:Yeah Ademulegun was the third person to be commissioned after Bassey and Ironsi and he holds the Army number (N3) for this. I think that Ogundipe was (N4) while Shodeinde was (N5). All of them were commissioned in the 1940's while others like Maimalari, Adebayor and Effiong were commssioed in the early 50's. However, Ogundipe left the Army to go and do other things but was recalled after indepedence due to acute shortage of officers after the British left. Unfortunately for Bassey, despite being the first Nigerian to be commissioned as an officer, he never moved above the rank of a colonel. There was this talk that he was a coward who didn't like military confrontation. So while the likes of Ironsi were going to the Congo to fight, he shied away. When the Nzeogwu coup took place, Bassey dressed up as Fulani herdsman and escaped Lagos until the dust settled. He was then appointed commanding officer Kaduna military cantonment. When Bassey got wind of the second counter coup, he hurriedly took his statutory leave, handed over to Effiong, jumped into his car and sped off to his hometown of Calabar. Within a few days of Gowon taking over, he retired both Ogundipe and Bassey. |
jayfolarin:Who told you that we Igbos don't have anywhere but Nigeria? You actually believe that nonsense? We Igbos have somewhere else and we already went there in 1967 before you guys came to fight for three years to bring us back. It is the rest of you that don't have anywhere but Nigeria. When it comes to 'one Nigeria', you are on your own. That's why most of us don't care about who stole what it who is bombing pipelines. How can we be concerned about something we have no stake in? |
Aigbofa:There has never been a coup in Nigeria that was necessary. However, what makes the first coup different from all others that followed was that Nzeogwu had no interest in siezing power for themselves |
I wonder what gives people the impression that Chuka Umunna is 'Nigerian born'? He isn't. Chuka was born and raised in England to late business mogul Chief Umunna and a British mother. No doubt that he has Igbo heritage but his country of first allegiance in Britain. He has been to Nigeria a few times to meet his extended family but when it comes to his nationality, he is British. These people that are asking why he didn't marry an Igbo girl, why would he do that? Of what benefit is that to him? |
Buhari came in and thought that now is still Military era. Instead of engaging everyone in dialogue, the militants, Biafran separatist etc, he used unnecessary force and made matters much worse. I think it is already a foregone conclusion that the Biafra separatists will keep agitating, the militants will keep destroying Oil installations for the remainder of his regime. That what happens when a clueless dullard becomes president of the country |
