PoliticsRe: No Short Cut To Naira Appreciation, Says Ned Nwoko by Konquest: 9:38pm On Apr 28, 2024
TouchNfollow:
Sen. Ned Nwoko, has advised the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) against any measures that capable if artificially forcing the Naira to gain value against other currencies.

Nwoko, who represents Delta North, advised in a statement he signed and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Abuja on Saturday.

He advised them to concentrate on tackling the main issues responsible for the Naira depreciation, saying there was no short-cut to success.

He said the quest for economic freedom and the strength of the nation’s currency was an ongoing journey.

Nwoko also said the continuous revisit to previously implemented policies and considerations of new ones were imperative.
He also said the value of a sovereign nation’s currency was the cornerstone of respect and collaboration among nations, while reiterating that Nigeria must stimulate Naira demand.

According to him, as a nation that exports crude oil and other commodities globally, it is imperative that all transaction on these items be conducted exclusively in Naira.

“This will incentivise buyers to seek out Naira, thereby driving its appreciation due to increased demand and scarcity.
“Moreover, the foreign reserve policy warrants reassessment. The practice of maintaining reserves in foreign jurisdictions, termed “foreign reserves,” is not only objectionable but also counterproductive to Nigeria’s economic sovereignty.

“Unlike other nations like the United States, Britain, France, and Japan, which hold their reserves domestically, Nigeria’s adherence to this practice raises questions about its colonial legacy.

“If our early indigenous leaders acquiesced to this approach due to colonial influence, why should we perpetuate it? The primary rationale often cited to justify foreign reserves is trade balance maintenance“, Nwoko said.

According to him, this argument lacks merit when considering the limited number of traders involved in importing goods into Nigeria, which constitutes a negligible fraction of the nation’s population.

“Therefore, the notion that foreign reserves are indispensable for trade balance equilibrium falls short upon scrutiny”, he said.

The lawmaker who is a Solicitor, Supreme Court of England and Wales, there was the need to acknowledge that the recent appreciation of the Naira was not solely attributable to the CBN’s new measures.

“Rather, it can be attributed to the decline in refined oil imports following the production and distribution of refined petroleum from the local refinery – the Dangote refinery.

“Now envisage if other heavily consumed products were locally produced instead of imported. The success would be monumental and conspicuous,” he added.

In January, in a statement, he had preferred crucial measures to be adopted by the federal government CBN to combat dollarisation and stabilise the Naira.

Nwoko said that since the dissemination of that statement, various measures have been implemented to bolster the value of the Naira.

“However, the efficacy of these measures is yet to manifest fully, as the root cause of Naira devaluation remains unaddressed.

“Until we confront the underlying issues head-on, our efforts against dollarisation will be in vain,” he said.

In reality most Emerging Markets or countries keep their reserves in a basket of global currencies.

But then again, Ned largely made valid points in his submissions.

Nice read.

@Sugah

Listen... If you had read my post without any confirmation bias on your part, you would have gotten a proper hang of what I posted. What do you mean by me reducing your post and her achievements to "tribal" bants? You clearly have to be sent to the "naughty corner" for this misrepresentation.

As a well-educated and globally well-traveled man (with a very cosmopolitan and multicultural worldview), I don't engage in banal ethnic bants here, and I believe that a lot of women worldwide are relentlessly breaking the glass ceiling and must be celebrated. The two women mentioned here have scored FIRSTS as civilian and Air Force helicopter pilots and that is highly commendable.

Matter-of-factly, Abimbola Jayeola, the female copter Captain mentioned in your post should be celebrated in a Nigerian or aviation hall of fame (along with other folks) to inspire the young ones, and I ONLY just read about her on this thread for the FIRST time ever last week despite being quite a voracious reader of functional books and news sources.

Last but not least, I'm gonna emphasize here and now that it's just a coincidence that the two women copter pilots (Abimbola and Tolulope) alluded to in that your post and mine are copter pilots of Yoruba descent. "It is what it is" and there's NO need for you or anybody to be "politically correct" or get riled up about that, and I certainly have NO apologies to give to anybody for framing my post the way I did.

Besides, I know full well that millions of Americans (Norwegian-Americans, Irish-Americans, Jewish-Americans, Japanese-Americans, Chinese-Americans, Italian-Americans, etc), all proudly have cultural and ethnic language classes in the U.S. for their children. They celebrate their collective achievements and various ancestral roots by making yearly air travels to their original countries of origin. So, folks over there in Nigeria or of Nigerian Diaspora descent worldwide shouldn't be too ashamed about expressing their healthy ethnic identities. Period.

Exactly! N500 rental for the hall at Eko Club was indeed VERY expensive back then like I also stated in my first post on page 1 of this thread. I remember that N20 could buy a lot of foreign and Nigerian-manufactured things at any Kingsway Department Stores outlets or any of the other 2 competing Department Stores such as Leventis and UTC as of 1982.

Globally, inflation has eaten deep into the purchasing power of a lot of folks and prices of goods and services have relentlessly changed over the last 100 years of consumerism.

So, N500 was a lot of money paid for the wedding reception at the elite Eko Club based on the prevailing price of things at that time.

Cape Verde’s European quest
Although geographically part of Africa, Cape Verde, a former colony of Portugal until 1975, has made moves to exit from regional the AU and ECOWAS, while it shopped for closer ties with the European Union.

The Praia government announced in September 2006 its plans to limit access to its territory for other West African nationals.

The island nation has also tabled a “special status” proposal to ECOWAS, one that will exempt it from the “full membership” status of the West African bloc.

Cape Verde is a mixed grill of folks from different racial groups and ancestry DNA tests show a high prevalence of European (Iberian Peninsula) and African ancestries in a lot of them. Jewish genetic markers were also observed in a significant number of tests done.

NOT surprised they tried to join the European Union and ditch ECOWAS.

It's still a great destination to visit for tourism though.

PoliticsRe: Price Hike: Ondo Monarch Bans Forced Association Membership On Traders by Konquest: 3:22pm On Apr 28, 2024
peekspot:
The Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom in Ondo State, Oba Victor Kiladejo has ordered the prohibition of the idea of traders being forced to join associations in the kingdom

Oba Kiladejo gave the order, through the Osemawe-in-Council, as part of the efforts to reduce the prices of food and commodities and services.

The order was part of the resolutions adopted by Osemawe in Council at the stakeholders and youth meeting held at Palace Hall, Ondo town, Ondo State on Wednesday.

The resolutions were contained in a statement from the Ondo Ekinmogun Youth Congress on Saturday, issued by Kayode Igbekoyi on behalf of the President of the group, Comrade Kayode Folajogun.

According to the statement, the resolutions read that “imposition of association membership of any kind on traders is prohibited in Ondo kingdom. Ondo markets are declared free and open for every legal trader and traders in legal items or wares from other communities, towns or states can trade freely in Ondo kingdom.

“All moribund and abandoned community markets e.g Odosida, Okelisa, Ayeyemi, Akinjagunla, Igba, Oka, and Odojomu including neighbourhood markets should be revamped, steps being taken to create more alternative markets like Shasha, Kara ( in Ondo) should be expedited ”

In the resolutions, the council asked any seller or trader who felt threatened while selling her goods in Ondo to call the concerned constituted authorities, Iyaloja or youth president and also that Iyaloja should make necessary publicity concerning the resolutions of market women on Osemawe’s directive.

The Osemawe-in-Council also warned that any fuel station selling above the approved pump price or exorbitant cost would be sealed off and that collection of extra charges on transactions done on any company’s POS machine, especially fuel stations is cancelled forthwith.

It said, “Strict measures would be taken against any fuel station especially independent marketers who hoard fuel and dupe buyers and Ondo residents by selling inaccurate meter measures, hat steps being taken by Ondo kingdom through the Osemawe in council to upgrade Agbogboke Injector transformer would be accelerated and that “Ondo youths should be empowered to engage in agriculture and trading that could lead to the amelioration of current economic hardships being witnessed in Ondo kingdom and Nigeria at large ”

The council frowned at the alleged bad conduct of some local government officials extorting goods motor drivers coming into Ondo markets and market women by extension and ordered for its stoppage forthwith.

The statement added that the intelligence and community task force team would be out to see to the implementation of the resolutions.

Due to the removal of fuel subsidies and the depreciation of the naira, there has been a consistent increase in food prices nationwide in recent times.

Are you saying oke ora is an ancient kingdom as old as Ife and Benin kingdoms?
I guess oke ora came from Ife and if we are to go by the kingdom at the east of Ife, then that should be pointing at Benin kingdom
Oke Ora is located within Osun State not far from Ife (Ufe), that is 8 kilometres (5 miles) EAST of Ife (Ufe) and there were other settlements in what is now Yorubaland before Oduduwa was even born and he originally came from Oke Ora. There were people in Ife before the rise of the Oduduwa Dynasty in Ife and Ife had 2 other dynasties before the Oduduwa dynasty. The presence of Obatala as a traditional ruler in what is now Ife is just one of the evidence that shows that the Obaship or kingship system existed long before Oduduwa came from Oke Ora, and he continued the Obaship tradition.

=>https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oke_Ora

I must add that the descent of Oduduwa from his place of origin in Oke Ora in Osun State is mythologized as the descent from the sky. Everyone in Ife and outside Ife knows it's NOT to be interpreted as a literal descent from the sky but it's just a religious deification or allegory of the arrival of Oduduwa from Oke Ora to Ife and this is why every new Oba (Ooni of Ife) has to go to Oke Ora as part of the traditional rites of coronation.

=>https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oke_Ora

Heck, even the Ogiso (now Ogiamien) family CLEARLY stated in this 2018 Guardian article below that Oduduwa was NOT from Igodomigo as being claimed of recent by the Benin Royal Palace but was of pure Yoruba descent from Ife alongside Oranmiyan who had a child called Owomika (Eweka) by a woman from Egor.

You have just said it 100% correctly. For the fact that Bini Traditional Council quickly rushed to suspend them speaks volume. There's something they're hiding.
What those chiefs said corresponds with what is publicly known by everyone right from time immemorial. What Bini people are saying now (that Oduduwa was their lost prince) is relatively new and there is no history book or research work in support of this that’s up to 25 years old. It was a propaganda promoted by the immediate past Oba Erediauwa in his book published in 2004.
There's NO doubt, it's because of the resurgence of the Ogiamien family in stating that the Oba of Benin is of Yoruba paternal lineage that all these blatant falsehoods and half-truths are coming up in that 2004 book and other narratives. The people of Usen (Ode Awure) in Ovia South West LGA of Edo State know their Ife origins and they are direct descendants of those who followed Oranmiyan to what is now Benin over 900 years ago. Usen was founded by Oranmiyan's younger brother and they primarily speak their Yoruba dialect and Bini language.

=>https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oke_Ora

Oduduwa himself came from Oke Ora in Osun State in Yorubaland and was NEVER a so-called Ekaladehan as falsely propagated by the Benin palace. This whole thing is just to deflect attention from the Ogiamien family assertions that they are the aboriginal land owners. The Ogiamien family also talked fully about the bloody wars that took place between the Yoruba (Ife) warriors and Igodomigo (now Benin) warriors which led to deaths. He also talked about the many marriages that took place between Yoruba men and Igodomigo women who had children for them in the explosive 2018 Guardian newspaper interview below:

=>https://guardian.ng/features/ogiso-and-ogiamien-are-aborigine-binis-while-oba-of-benin-is-of-yoruba-descent-high-chief-esotericist-monday-wehere/

The Benin Royal lineage is of Yoruba paternal descent and Igodomigo maternal descent (Egor) from the time of the birth of Oba Owomika (Oba Eweka). Oba Oranmiyan was NEVER a son of a so-called "Ekaladehan or Izoduwa" like some historical revisionists and uninformed like to say. Oduduwa was from Oke-Ora and he met already established people in Ife (Ufe) who are the ancestors of the current Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom in Ilajeland as of today. It was the Ifa oracle that gave instructions for them to leave Ife and move to another location to avoid further casualties in the battles according to Oba Frederick Obateru, the current Olugbo of the oil and gas-rich Ugbo kingdom in 2004 when the misleading book from the Benin palace came up. It is what it is.

ijustdey:
Five Benin traditional functionaries have been suspended from their roles for engaging in what the palace described as sacrilegious conduct against Benin customs.

The Benin Traditional Council announced their suspension in a statement signed by the Iyase of Benin, Chief Sam Igbe, on Saturday.

The statement noted that the affected functionaries visited the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, where they falsely claimed to be emissaries of the Oba of Benin and rendered inaccurate and disjointed account of the connection between the Benin Royal Dynasty and the Ooni-ship of Ife.

PUNCH Online earlier reported that representatives from the Benin Kingdom, paid a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to affirm that Ile-Ife is the ancestral home of the Benin people.

In a now-viral video capturing the exchange, one of the emissaries told the Ooni that despite contrary narratives circulating online, their collective understanding has always recognised Ile-Ife as their ancestral homeland.

“We have always been told that Ife is our home,” the emissary said.

However, the Benin Traditional Council has distanced itself from the representatives whom it described as “a group of self-serving traditional functionaries from Benin.”

The statement reads, “The attention of the Benin Traditional Council has been drawn to video clips circulating on social media in which a group of self-serving traditional functionaries from Benin engaged themselves in a sacrilegious show of shame and falsehood against the Benin Custom.

In the said clip, the individuals who have been identified as Johnbull Igbinosun, Iduhonre (Ihogbe), S.E. Aigbiremwen, Efesieoghoba (Ogbelaka) and two other Ogbelaka functionaries identified as Ogbeide Osagie and Osamudiame Edo were in the presence of the Ooni of Ife, falsely claiming to be emissaries of the Omo N’ObaN’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare Il, Oba of Benin. These individuals not only declared themselves subjects of the Ooni but also rendered inaccurate and disjointed accounts of the connection between the Benin Royal Dynasty and the Ooni-ship of Ife.

“While the BTC does not wish to be drawn to restating the well-known connection between the two thrones of the Oba of Benin and the Ooni of Ife, the general public is urged to disregard the inaccurate accounts rendered by the ill-bred individuals named above. For the avoidance of any doubt whatsoever, the BTC advise the general public to avail themselves of the official account of the connection between the two ancient monarchies as contained in the authoritative book titled “I Remain, Sir, Your Obedient Servant” authored by His Royal Majesty, Oba Erediauwa, Oba of Benin (1979 — 2016), published by Spectrum Books/Safari Books, 2004 at pages 205-212.”

Describing the conduct of the representatives as sacrilegious, the council advised the public to steer clear of them.

“The BTC considers the conduct of these functionaries as inappropriate, sacrilegious and calculated to ridicule traditional history and to bring disrepute to Benin custom. Consequently, on the authority of the Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare Il, Oba of Benin the Prescribed Authority over Benin Custom, the BTC hereby announce the suspension of the individuals mentioned above from their role as Benin traditional functionaries.

The general public is advised to refrain from having anything to do with them as traditional functionaries in Benin kingdom throughout their suspension”, the statement added.

https://punchng.com/benin-traditional-council-suspends-five-chiefs-for-pledging-alliance-to-ooni/?amp
I watched the long but engaging video of the Benin Royal Palace high chiefs to the Royal Palace of the Ooni of Ife (Uhe) yesterday and there was absolutely NOTHING wrong with what the high chiefs said or did. They even affirmed the authority of the Oba of Benin while affirming the ancestral relationship between the Royal Palace of Benin and the Royal Palace of Ife through Oranmiyan who was the first Oba of Benin and the father of Oba Owomika (Oba Eweka) in that video.

So, the BTC should calm down, watch the full video and not escalate things any further.

The Ooni of Ife (Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi) will definitely step in by speaking on the phone or physically to the Oba of Benin over this and there will be a thawing of the situation, leading to the restoration of the full rights of the high chiefs by BTC.

Great100000:
Yam sack farming is the growing of yam in sacks. The beauty of this method is that it allows even those with limited space to enjoy the benefits of homegrown yams.
Growing yams in sacks is not just a practical solution, it is also an eco-friendly and resource-efficient method.

By using sacks, you can save water and space and even reduce the risk of pests and diseases.

Here is a step-by-step guide to help you grow yams successfully in sacks:

Step 1 – Selecting the appropriate sacks is the first step in successful yam cultivation. Get cement sacks or rice sacks, the bigger the sack(s) the better. You can get sacks from old garri, semo, and bean bags.

Step 2 – Before you begin planting, take a moment to select the right yam variety for your growing conditions. Here are a few popular choices to consider:

Dioscorea alata (Water Yam): Known for its smooth, tender flesh and sweet flavour.

Dioscorea rotundata (White Yam): Has a dry, starchy texture and is often used in traditional dishes.

Dioscorea cayenensis (Yellow Yam): Features a yellowish flesh and a milder flavour.

Then get ash from burnt charcoal and rub on the yam heads which have been cut in small sizes.

Step 3 – Fill the sacks with healthy soil.

Step 4 – You either bury the yam heads or cut your yam into small sizes, rub the ash on the piece, then bury deep in the sack filled with soil.

Step 5 – Proper care is essential for the successful growth of your yams. Yams love consistent moisture, so be sure to keep the soil evenly moist without overdoing it. Make sure the sacks have proper drainage to prevent waterlogging. Place the sacks outside where it can access rain and sunlight.

Step 6 – Provide support: As the yam plants grow, they will need support to prevent them from sprawling. Install stakes or trellises around the sacks and gently tie the vines to encourage upward growth. As soon as it starts springing leaves, attach a stick to it, so the leaves can climb.

Remember to perforate, make holes around the bag, to avoid water logging and decay and loss of the seedlings.

Other things can be planted this way too. Such as Potatoes, corn, okro, spinach.

There is lesser disease and pest infestation with yam sack farming nonetheless, regularly check your yam plants for any signs of pests or diseases. Common yam pests may include armyworm, nematodes, aphids etc. If issues arise, address them with organic pest control methods or consult a professional if necessary.

Patience pays off! Your yam plants are usually ready for harvest 6-8 months after planting.

Pregnant Man In Kid's TV And Dolls: Are They Now Coming After Our Kids?

When they said they were coming for our kids next during the last LGBTQ+ pride month parade, it appeared they weren't playing at all, but had already put mechanisms in place to actualize their abominable agenda.

I was watching Nickelodeon a few years back with the kids of a close relative after I paid them a visit, and on a TV station and show that supposed to be meant for kids, i saw something that shocked me to bits.

It was a man whose tommy protruded like that of a pregnant woman lying down on something that looked like a hospital bed.

Although I didn't know exactly what they were talking about, being ultra alert to the devices of the devil, I didn't need to know but immediately sensed it was a strategy deviced to subtly implant homosexuality ideas into the minds of our children.

I knew the idea was that once they saw the pregnant man in the show, the next question would likely be how a man could get pregnant.

And how else could a man get pregnant but the same way a woman gets pregnant, by a man since a woman cannot get a man pregnant?

That's how they intend to subtly implant such homosexual ideas into the innocent minds of the children, so from childhood their minds would gradually start wandering into the forbidden territory of homosexuality and by the time they were grown up, the abominable idea would have stuck and it would be hard for them to be disentangled from it.

Now they've even taken it a step further to make dolls of a pregnant man, called pregnant Ken.

And guess what, it was made by the popular brand called Barbie that uses to make dolls for children, but are you surprised?

You shouldn't be because they are very determined and using all the means and resources at their disposal to target our kids as they said.

That's why we can't afford to lose guard or be caught napping at this time because the wolves have come all out to get our kids, and they're not even hiding their plans any longer.

Hence why we should endeavour to be fervently prayerful and watchful for our kids more than ever to prevent them falling prey to these predators.

God bless.
Interestingly, there are "transgender men" (originally born as females) who have gotten pregnant within the last 25 years. Science is still working on making it possible for a real man to have babies with an artificial uterus as we can see from the leapfrogs in medical technologies.

However, if medical science succeeds in creating that artificial uterus, personally, I'm not wired to do that kinda stuff as a masculine man, but there will always be a "small group" of renegade folks worldwide who would want to do that in order to bring forth a baby they can call their own (or to aid their wives who might have severe uterine or ovarian problems with conceiving babies naturally).

You need to be careful talking about the Ọba (gha to kpere baba) in Benin especially if you are a foreigner.

I am really surprised you weren't slapped and you should count your lucky stars that the people around you were restrained. Do not try such outside of Ugbowo or Ekhenhua campuses ever again.

Just to correct you, the Ọba might have Yoruba ancestry way way back up his ancestral tree, he is definitely not a Yoruba man.

People accuse some Ndigbo in Lagos of being less than gracious guests and you are here behaving even worse.

Don't let yourself, your family and your give down like Obidients do.
Let me step into the convo here.
Are you originally a native of Benin City?

Even the Oba of Benin on his coronation called himself the Son of Oranmiyan.

This video gave me goosebumps just like it did in 2016 during the coronation speech of the current Oba Ewuare II of Benin.

It's a testament to the triumph of the human spirit and the Oba of Benin clearly reaffirmed on the day of his coronation in 2016 that he is a direct descendant of Oranmiyan and that Oranmiyan is the FIRST Oba of Benin though he didn't stay long but had a son called Owo Mika (Eweka) who became the SECOND Oba of Benin kingdom. Oba Ewuare II also affirmed in 2016 that he is the 40th Oba of Benin.

Kudos to the Royal Palace of Ife and the Royal Palace of Benin for preserving secret historical knowledge about the direct ancestral links that bind them together for centuries.

The Yoruba town of Usen (Ode Awure) in Ovia South West of Edo State was founded by Oranmiyan's OLDER brother and Usen played a very important role in the link between Ife and Benin. They primarily speak a dialect of Yoruba and Bini language thereby being bilingual.

Lobatan.

The history and its true account have been preserved watertight.

Thank God for the wisdom of the Yoruba forebears and ancestors who built the Orun Oba Ado in Ile Ife to make it the permanent befitting resting place for every departed Oba of Benin descendant of Oranmiyan. By this historical edifice and other oral traditions, one of which was cited by the spokesman in the video, the Yoruba forever preserved the Yoruba link of the Binis and the place of the Benin royalty as direct descendants of an Ile Ife Prince in Ile Ife till date.

The Benin royalty is definitely Yoruba and behind the Ooni of Ife.

Representatives from the Benin Kingdom, paying a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, have affirmed Ile-Ife as the ancestral home of the Benin people.

In a now-viral video capturing the exchange, one of the emissaries told the Ooni that despite any contrary narratives circulating online, their collective understanding has always recognised Ile-Ife as their ancestral homeland.

“We have always been told that Ife is our home,” the emissary said.

The remarks made by the emissary has sparked a reaction online.

The emissary continued, “I don’t care about the propaganda on the internet or whatever anybody is saying. “We know our history and as far as we are concerned, when I was coming here, I knew I was coming to meet my father so I was very comfortable.”

The purpose of the visit was to extend an invitation to the Ooni to attend the forthcoming Patriots Award event.

The origin of the Benin Kingdom has been a subject of ongoing discussion and debate. Ile-Ife is widely regarded as the ancestral home of the Yoruba people.

The Benin Kingdom, located in what is now modern-day Edo State, has been said to have historical connections to Ife. However, there have been historical debates and conflicting claims about the precise origins of the Benin people. Some accounts and historical narratives have suggested different origins for the Benin people. This has led to disagreements and tensions regarding their historical lineage, especially on the internet.

I watched the long but engaging video of the visit of the Oba of Benin's Royal Palace high chiefs to the Ooni of Ife (Uhe). They reaffirmed their ancestral link to Ife (Uhe) as well.

I wish the young man who came with the Benin high chiefs the best in the organization of his program.

So, Jarus is now a football club owner? That's impressive. This must be at Onikan Stadium on Lagos Island from the bits of what I can see in the live YouTube video commentary.

I just found out it's happening at the iconic Campos Square Stadium on Lagos Island NOT Onikan Stadium.

Still 4-3 in favor of Jarus FC over X FC as of this minute.
