marvelck: Back in the day, single ladies that own cars were usually advised not to flaunt their cars or let guys know they own a car, in order not to chase men away from marrying them.
Unmarried ladies that own cars then were tagged all sort of names. But a lot has changed since then. Most guys even prefer going after ladies that own cars and houses these days. And e get why
maureensylvia: Marrying a virgin can bring a sense of purity and strong bond, but also potential drawbacks like increased expectations and sexual incompatibility.
GistMedia0: Israel DMW reacts as a doctor lists the benefits of marrying a virgin. Following his own experience of marrying Sheila Courage, who was a virgin at the time of their wedding. Despite her virginity, their marriage failed to last even a year, raising questions about the correlation between marital success and a partner's sexual history.
The screenshot post is largely true but not set in stone.
Gistmedia10: A man narrowly avoided drowning after his truck got trapped in rising floodwaters on a road. As the water rushed in fast, it covered the truck quickly, putting the people inside in danger.
To stay safe, they climbed onto the truck's roof. Luckily, other passengers and onlookers stepped in to help. They found a strong rope and tied one end to the truck and the other to something solid across the flooded road.
Working together, they pulled the stranded folks to safety. It was a scary situation turned into a happy ending thanks to teamwork and quick action.
One wrong slip while using that strong rope and a person would have gotten swept away in the fast-moving flood waters. Without a strong mental attitude and physical fitness, anyone of these dudes could have been swept away by the dirty flood waters.
After watching that short video, I'm glad the men all made it to safer grounds tbh.
NO! Giannis and his family don't know WHO they are yet until they drop that bastardized and ridiculous name called "Antetokoumpo" and REVERT to the original Yoruba family name spelling they all used called ADETOKUNBO. Even the Greeks don't know the meaning of that name because it's NOT a Greek name. Giannis Sina Adetokunbo and his surviving family members have to do this family name reversion to earn my respect and that of others tbh. The Nigerian-Americans Hakeem "the Dream" Olajuwon, Andre Iguodala, Femi Bam Adebayo, the Aminu brothers (Alade Aminu and Al-Farouq Ajiede Aminu), have all played in the NBA with their real names and family names. Props to them all for keeping it real.
Greek business immigrants back in Nigeria such as the Stepanopoulos family NEVER changed or bastardized their Greek names just to belong within Nigeria. Same with the huge Lebanese immigrant population. The Chagoury family NEVER changed their Lebanese Maronite family names to fit into the Nigerian space or to get their Nigerian passports.
OnionBandit: Sometimes typing can be very boring and stressful, especially when you have a lot to say at once.
Imagine a situation where as a 9-5er working in Lagos, you just returned from work (after beating that Lagos traffic)...and someone important gives you a lengthy chat that can't wait..Omo! Me na VN go solve am o!
There are positives and negatives in every invention. VNs are important keys in tech communication especially when done audibly and briefly.
dominique: I thought it was only me that thing annoys
It's not a bad invention, it's the way Nigerians use it that is very annoying.
Indeed, Voice Notes are not bad but must be audible and be used to convey brief messages of about 1-2 minutes for me. That's the way the receiver can enjoy receiving your VNs.
aikyg: Wow! Thanks for explaining this even better. A lot of our young people do not know how much sacrifice our journalists invested in the pro democracy struggle.
@aikyg, I appreciate.
Indeed, it's good to emphasize these historical facts from time to time because we live in a world of cycles and lessons can be learned by studying historical and economic cycles as we advance into the future.
aikyg: Ray Ekpu, Chris Anyabwu and Osa Director were some of the journalists who fought for the democracy that some people are enjoying today. RIP Mrs Ekpu.
Indeed, Ray Ekpu, Chris Anyanwu, Osa Director... in addition Bayo Onanuga and Kunle Ajibade of The News Magazine, 'Dele Alake formerly of Concord newspapers, Bagauda Kaltho (who got blown by a bomb in Kaduna), Syivester Odion Akhaine (who was badly beaten up by military goverment goons and was jailed for over 1 year) and more truly fought for democracy using the principles of "guerilla journalism" to achieve their aims as they faced the brutal and repressive military dictatorships back in the 1980s and most especially the 1990s.
We are grateful to all of them for adding value to the democratic struggles by activists before 1999 and even post-1999 which the younger ones here don't have a deep knowledge about.
Uyai Ekpu's 73 years within the cycle of human existence it's bad.
My condolences go to the iconic Ray Ekpu (who co-founded the investigatve Newswatch Magazine with the fearless 'Dele Giwa who got blown by a parcel bomb in his Ikeja residence in 1986) and his family over the translation of his spouse.
seunlayi: Almost all the phones from them last year are performing greatly. This p40 that I bought 56k, I have gotten offer to sell above 50k from people which I can't just let it go. Battery (2 days) . Camera, dls24, smooth, etc. am not even missing my pixel phone whenever I dropped it.
In a surprising turn of events, Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree branding the 1867 sale of Alaska to the U.S. as 'illegal.' This move has reignited historical debates and raised geopolitical concerns on a global scale.
Alaska, acquired by the U.S. from the Russian Empire for $7.2 million, has been an integral part of the nation for over 150 years. The region's strategic location near Russia's eastern territories through the Bering Strait has long been a geopolitical focal point.
Post-World War II, Alaska gained heightened significance as the U.S. and the Soviet Union emerged as rivals. Now, in the wake of Putin's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, the idea of reclaiming Alaska has gained momentum among Russian politicians.
Sergei Mironov, a close ally of Putin, advocates for Moscow to consider reclaiming Alaska from what he perceives as a "weakened U.S." State Duma President Vyacheslav Volodin issues a cautionary message to Americans, reminding them of Russia's potential to reclaim assets, should they attempt to seize Russian properties abroad.
Drawing parallels with Russia's actions in Crimea, historically transferred to Ukraine during the Soviet era, adds an ominous historical context to the unfolding situation.
The tension brewing between Russia and the U.S. over Alaska adds a new layer to the complex geopolitics of our time. Fueled by historical grievances and recent global events, this situation highlights the evolving dynamics between these two influential nations and raises questions about the potential impact on the global geopolitical landscape. As the world watches, the historical echoes and contemporary geopolitical maneuvering create an atmosphere of uncertainty and concern.
The Russians are just jivin'. Alaska stays within the U.S.A. Period.

Well-spoken words from the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
NairaOcean: A Dana Air aircraft with 83 passengers and registration number 5N BKI flying from Abuja to Lagos, was on Tuesday, reported to have suffered a runway excursion at the Lagos Murtala Mohammed airport.
A runway excursion occurs when an aircraft veers off the runway in use during the take-off or landing run.
Confirming the incident, Dana Air in a statement, said although the passengers were safely disembarked with no injuries, it had reported the incident to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Board (NSIB) and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
It added that the aircraft had been grounded by the maintenance team, pending further investigation.
The airline also apologised to passengers on the flight, commending their patience, while thanking the airport authorities for their swift response to the incident.
That's impressive. The pictures show the triumph of the human spirit... Frozen in time and space.
The Trinidadian descendants of pre-1900 Yoruba folks taken on slave schooners such as the Spanish schooner Manuelita still live on. Manuelita left Lagos Island with over 500 people and headed for Cuba in 1833. Manuelita was intercepted and captured by an anti-slavery Naval Squadron and they landed in Cuba. Some of the Yorubas on board were then taken from Cuba to Trinidad and Tobago for resettlement.
The compound plays/holds an important role in the spiritual hierachy in Ile-Ife/Yoruba-land one of which is taking charge of the Ade Are (Oduduwa's crown) which Obatala wears during the period an Ooni passed on and when another ascends the throne.
They are part of the Idita, one of the original families Oduduwa met in Ife. As an Ooni owns no land, Idita family land starts from Mokuro junction opposite Moore police station to As far as Ife boundary with Ilesa.
There are 3 groups in the family; the Ilesun, Ilale and Ilea (the latter 2 have merged into one).
The place in the picture is where odun obatala holds as well as Idita. This is the temple where Obatala (the compound) descents hold prayers and stuff and it is where the Obalesun is everyday of the week.
We had a thread previously but we lost it as a result of the NL crash. As a result, I thought it would be a good idea to restart the thread for discussions, questions, research and whatever.
Let me start with some pictures from past festivals.
opamoses1: You are correct. In ife today during the olojo festival. The coming of Oduduwa and usurping of Obatala is always re-enacted. There was nairaland thread of the event some years back.
