PoliticsRe: Again, Dangote Crashes Diesel, Aviation Fuel Prices To ₦‎940, ₦‎980 Respectively by Konquest: 3:49pm On Apr 23, 2024
Islie:
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has again announced a further reduction in the prices of both diesel and aviation fuel to N940, N980 per litre respectively.

This is coming at the wake of its widely celebrated price reduction to N1,000 barely two weeks ago.

The price change of N940 is applicable to customers buying five million litres and above from the refinery, while the price of N970 is for customers buying one million litres and above.

Speaking on the new development, the Head of Communication, Mr Anthony Chiejina, explained that the new price is in consonance with the company’s commitment to cushion the effect of economic hardship in Nigeria.

Chiejina said, “I can confirm to you that Dangote Petroleum Refinery has entered a strategic partnership with MRS Oil and Gas stations, to ensure that consumers get to buy fuel at affordable price, in all their stations be it Lagos or Maiduguri. You can buy as low as 1 litre of diesel at N1,050 and aviation fuel at N980 at all major airports where MRS operates.”

He further stated that the partnership will be extended to other major oil marketers.

“The essence of this is to ensure that retail buyers do not buy at exorbitant prices. The Dangote Group is committed to ensuring that Nigerians have a better welfare and as such, we are happy to announce these new prices and hope that it would go a long way to cushion the effect of economic challenges in the country,” he added.

It would be recalled that the management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced a further reduction of the price of diesel from N1200 to N1,000 per litre barely two weeks ago.

This marks the third major reduction in diesel price in less than three weeks when the product sold at N1,700 to N1,200 and also a further reduction to N1,000 and now N940 for diesel and N980 for aviation fuel per litre.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu had also commended Mr Dangote for the initial price reduction, describing it as an “enterprising feat.”

Reacting to the latest development, the Director General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mr Ajayi Kadiri, said that, “The decision of Dangote Refinery to first crash the price from about N1,750/litre to N1,200/litre, N1,000/litre and now N940 is an eloquent demonstration of the capacity of local industries to positively impact the fortunes of the national economy.”

He added that, “The trickle down effect of this singular intervention promises to change the dynamics in the energy cost equation of the country, in the midst of inadequate and rising cost of electricity.

“The reduction will have far-reaching effects in critical sectors like industrial operations, transportation, logistics, and agriculture, contributing to easing the high inflation rate in the country; a lot of companies will be back in operation.”

That's an impressive feat in the oil and gas downstream sector.

I've seen too many copter crashes online and I can clearly say that copter are fragile aircraft tbh.
PoliticsRe: I Want To Appear In Court But I’m Afraid Of Arrest — Yahaya Bello by Konquest:
iwaeda:
The embattled immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello said he was ready to appear before the Federal High Court in Abuja to answer to the 19-count charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, preferred against him.

Though Bello was absent for his arraignment, he briefed a team of lawyers who addressed the court on his behalf on Tuesday.

A member of his legal team, Mr. Adeola Adedipe, SAN, told the court that his client would have made himself available for the proceedings, but was afraid that he would be arrested.

“The defendant wants to come to court but he is afraid that there is an order of arrest hanging on his head,” Adedipe, SAN, submitted.

Consequently, he urged the court to set aside the exparte order of arrest it earlier issued against the former governor.

Adedipe, SAN, contended that as at the time the order of arrest was made, the charge had not been served on his client as required by the law.

At 49 years of age and a Chartered Accountant, Adoza Bello should have outgrown this fear of arrest by now. Just do it! Be a man and stop disgracing Gen X folks out there.

It is called a pin hole or drain hole.

The pinhole on your padlock acts as a drain hole. The hole on the bottom of a padlock allows water to drain. This prevents the padlock's internal mechanisms from rusting, so they can continue to function properly.

When the water is removed, it also can't freeze inside the lock under cold temperature conditions
Water drainer or water remover.

Your answer here is indeed more credible.

I wonder how the grievous rape allegations against this expelled former Babcock Uni boy ended? 24 girls and there's probably more who hadn't come out to speak as of the time of publishing in 2020.

I have always advocated for physical or chemical castrations with public disgrace and hard labor for these kinds of sexual crimes. That'll serve as a deterant against potential rapists.

Sir, thanks for this information. It is very useful. Sir, can I have your permission to use some information here for reference purposes?

When I was a little boy we visited the beach, the beach was about 2 kilometers to the main road. You have to trek a distance to get to the Ocean. Later, before reclamation, after Naval Dockyard, just immediately after Oceanography School junction, half of Ahmadu Bello way had been taken. From Best Western Hotel or former IMB plaza you can see the Ocean.

Gilbert & Ronald are more like Nigerians. Their parents lived most of their lives in Nigeria.

All the opposition to the project is because of Atlantic City, Lekki Deep Seaport and access route to Dangote Refineries. They are particularly sad and bittered when the pictures of the Atlantic City when fully developed appeared on Social Media. I think somebody used the picture of similar city somewhere and called it Eko Atlantic City which generated a lot of commendations across Africa and criticism from Nigerians.

The good thing is that Obasanjo is alive to witness everything.
Thank you too my brother for your deep historical insights here. Nairaland has always had a hardcore group of folks who are very knowledgeable and even if wrong in their assertions, would openly correct themselves without being too self-conscious or cocky like some newer NL monikers that engage in blatant trolling and spread of hate speeches and disinformation on this platform. This is the reason why I have stayed on here as a member since 2005 with an older NL moniker.

You're indeed very familiar with Victoria Island from back in the day when the Atlantic ocean had NOT overwhelmed Bar Beach. Yes indeed, you can use the info here for any reference purposes. Applied information is POWER!

Gilbert and Ronald Chagoury are indeed Lebanese-Nigerians haven been born in Nigeria and got granted with Nigerian passports and citizenships. The first Lebanese migrants arrived Nigeria on boats originally heading towards Brazil from Lebanon in the 1890s. The only time I had issues with the Chagoury brothers was their relationship with that brutal, very corrupt dark goggled Kano-born Kanuri Military dictator back in the 1990s who stole over 4 billion USD of Nigerian money majorly through the Nigerian Central Bank and stashed them in various International offshore banks and tax havens. But then again, it can be quite difficult for good folks not to come in contact with such people like Abacha in the society who mix up with good folks in recreation clubs, business clubs, mosques, and more.

Just a quick one, I was reading this revealing Weblink info below on the Yoruba town of Usen in Ovia South West of Edo State within the last one hour and it CLEARLY shows how the Yoruba folks of Usen who originally migrated from Ife (Ufe) played a key role in the history of Ife and Benin over the Centuries. You might wish to read it if you haven't done so yet.

Tbh, there's a whole lot to read about events in the past that shaped human existence. The Ode Awure (Usen) account is very consistent with claims of Yoruba communities (originally founded by people from Ife) still being in existence in Edo State.

Thanks sir. I am not a Social Media person but have few young people that are always on Social Media. Secondly, I spent 6 years in Federal University in IBO land several years ago for my First Degree, I know them very well, most of them are never objective and that is why Alumni Associations of their Universities are not working properly. There is no any logic or reasoning that is workable to them except it is IBOS before others (IBOS).

The Yorubas need to unite to chart a course out of Nigeria. The IBOS hijacked Jonathan government and wasted/looted over $100 billion dollars, spent Obasanjo money in the reserve and borrowed heavily without saving one Kobo. Buhari government borrowed money to complete some of the projects met at inception and others 20% stage. The North knows what happened under Jonathan and use Buhari government to get back and kickstart their projects and empowered themselves.

Coming back to this project, MKO ABIOLA mentioned Coastal Highway Project during his campaign though I never knew what he meant.
This shows that the project has been on ground for decades. If it is not done now, people will continue to encroach on the land.

On Atlantic City, you are a bit wrong sir, it is not only VI that would have been submerged by Atlantic Ocean, it is the entire VI, Lekki and Ajah.

The Bar Beach close to my base encroached over 2 kilometers to the main road of Ahmadu Bello way with ocean surge threatening VI, Lekki & Ajah. The only solution was for those fighting TINUBU to put stones and rocks as ocean breakers and later gave a forecast that Atlantic Ocean would submerge the entire VI, Lekki Ajah. At this point most people were vacating and the environment almost dead.

When the Ocean and the breaker took half of Ahmadu Bello way leaving only portion of the dual carriage way, we deserted our buildings. Before this period Tinubu had recommended solutions but FG claimed ownership of the Ocean until it became aggravated and worsened. It was the courage and resilience and foresight of Tinubu that created the Atlantic City and the new Lagos. While Tinubu was looking for solutions, OBASANJO in Abuja said Lagos is a JUNGLE.

Ever since this Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway Project was announced on FACEBOOK, some International Highway Civil Engineering Companies have been advertising their highway projects targeting Africa. African countries have now started to display the super highways, road networks, new high-rise, towers and new cities development in their countries. It created Africa countries development index on Facebook and other Social Media. Most Africa countries are already aware of this project.

On FACEBOOK, it created awareness among Africa countries. While SA displays Jo'burg, Capetown and Durban, Egypt has a new city development, other countries also show theirs. Nigerians turned it to other things exposing internal psychological warfare and intertribal rivalry display. The whole Africa is already aware of the problem in Nigeria.

Is there any major road in Nigeria funded on PPP? OBASANJO is alive today to witness everything.
Indeed, well said.

Ah! I emphasized on Victoria Island because it is the immediate location that was affected by the yearly floods on Modupe Osikoya, Ahmadu Bello Way, etc, around the Bar Beach on VI. Other areas such as Lekki/Ajah that you mentioned were indeed threatened with being submerged by the Atlantic ocean but the foresight of the then Governor Tinubu of Lagos State to reclaim the land or areas lost to the ocean surges and create Eko Atlantic City in partnership with Gilbert Chagoury's company saved the day with former POTUS Bill Clinton in attendance at the inauguration of construction work on the project.

The reclaimed land area called Eko Atlantic used to be undisturbed SOLID LAND back in the 1950s but gradually got submerged into the sea. A lot of the younger folks criticizing Eko Atlantic don't even know this FACT. They WRONGLY assume that the land was sand filled but in actual sense, it's the sand on the ocean floor that had been submerged that was dredged back up to the surface with advanced equipment to reclaim the original lost land that existed back in the 1950s and before that era. Eko Atlantic was then fortified round with shoreline protection or water barriers to withstand the most severe kind of ocean surges in the near future. It's truly an iconic project.
CrimeRe: Police Arrested Me Because A Married Friend Visited My Hotel Room - Ayo Sogunro by Konquest: 9:52am On Apr 23, 2024
nlfpmod:
As shared by Human Rights Lawyer, Dr Ayo Sogunro.

So, about last weekend’s events.

I had come to Abuja to facilitate a human rights meeting with several NGOs and my accommodation was also booked at the hotel where the meeting would be taking place. 🧵

Soon as I landed, I sent messages to my friends in Abuja confirming that I was around.

As always, whenever I am in Nigeria, my friends would come welcome me at my accommodation, share a drink or two and generally gist. This time was no different.

For now.

One of them promised to stop by on her way home from work, also in the area.

Of the people I texted, she was the first to get to my place. I had checked into the hotel around 6.20pm and she got there around 6.40pm. Barely 15 minutes later, three police officers came to my door.

When the police arrived at my door, they asked to be let inside.

I denied them entrance and told them they had no authority to enter a private space without a warrant or a a clear just cause. Instead, they just pushed me aside and made their way in.

On seeing my friend, they asked her to come with them. We both asked why. The police replied that because my friend was a married woman, she should not have been in the hotel with me. I said this was ridiculous. She was a citizen of Nigeria and had a right to meet with anyone.

The officers insisted that she must come with them and so must I. For ‘questioning’.

I said, NO WAY. ON WHAT GROUNDS

If they wanted to arrest me, I would comply. But I would not voluntarily follow them to answer questions on unclear and unstated allegations.

This argument went back and forth for a while; one officer even started recording it on his phone. Some other police officers were called in as backup (making them about 6 total). A few of my other friends also arrived. Hotel management came in. It was becoming quite the scene.

Eventually, the officers got fed up with my refusal to voluntarily accompany them and then said they were putting me under arrest - still no clear allegation or reason.

My friend and I then followed them out of the hotel where a van was waiting and they took us to the station.

Up to this point, I still had my phone on me. I wasn’t touched or cuffed or assaulted by the officers. Our interaction throughout was verbal only. I was able to use my phone to make calls and alert people about what was unfolding.

But because I was still confused by what was going on - and the officers were not telling me who had sent them, how they discovered my room, or why I had been targeted (and also to forestall the worst) I sent out a series of tweets to alert the wider public.

But the police officers did not appreciate me putting the tweets out. At the station, they asked me to turn off my phone and hand it over. I did.

They asked me to write a statement - still with no context as to the charges - and I declined to do so without my lawyer present.

This is an incredible experience from the young lawyer, Ayo Sogunro.

Could the Abuja-based hotel staff have had a hand in secretly informing the police about the married lady's visit, OR could the married lady's husband be behind the police invitation to Ayo's hotel room? If this could happen to a qualified lawyer who knows his rights, then you can imagine what would have happened to a dude who barely knows the law or isn't a legal practitioner.

In any event, to be on the safe side, it's best to receive especially female associates in the hotel lobby of any hotel to prevent any unintended consequences such as false accusations of sexual assaults and more. Period.

The marriage between Mrs. Chidinma Umeh and her husband was said to have scattered after her sex video with partner was allegedly uploaded on the social media by her two jealous female friends in Lagos State.

The two ladies, Faith Osemeuieme, 26 and Solace Okonta, 26 have been arrested.
According to Police sources, the suspects were not happy that the victim got married and they allegedly planned to scatter her marriage by unloading her sex tape on the social media.

It was gathered that the victim and the two ladies in question were friends before she got married and distanced herself from them in order to face her married life.

However, the duo were said not be happy with her conduct and they reportedly conspired and planned to scatter her marriage. They were said to have obtained the sex tape and uploaded on the social media in order to disgrace and scatter her marriage.

When the victim saw the video trending on the social media, she confronted them because she knew they were her only friends that knew about the video. They were said to have beaten her seriously and injured her in the process.

How they obtained the video and kept in their custody was not known and it was not certain when the sex video was recorded and the partner in question.

The matter was reported to the Police through a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, who ordered investigation into the allegations and the Human Rights Resource Center, Ikeja, trailed, eventually arrested and detained them for interrogation over their conduct.

After thorough interrogation, the Police found them culpable and subsequently charged them before the Ogba Magistrates Court for assault and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace by upholding her sex tape on the social media.

When they were arraigned, they pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Raji Akeem, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since they pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that they actually committed the alleged offence.

They were granted bail and remanded in custody pending when they will perfect their bail conditions while the fate of the victim’s marriage is now said to be hanging in the balance over the alleged dastardly act by her friends.

Thank you for your generous compliments, I am quite honoured.

Let me simplify this for you, permit me to use numbers here; Nigeria dethroned South Africa as Africa's biggest economy since 2013, during GEJ's era and as been at the summit since 2013 till now. IMF projections lately shows that before 2025, Nigeria's economy would be 4th in Africa due to the devaluation of our currency.
Now to put it in perspective, South Africa's 2024 budget is totalled at a $100bn+, whilst the biggest budget ever proposed in Nigeria is Tinubu's 2024 budget at 25bn dollars. In which 9bn dollars would be borrowed. So we can't even effectively fund our budget. Note; no budget since 1999 has been entirely funded by our revenue. They'd always have to borrow, infact the borrowing was so deep that some our debt was forgiven by the Paris fund of 2005. Our biggest annual internally generated revenue was in 2023 at NGN12trn. Whist our budget in naira this year is 28trn. You see how whack our economy truly is? Numbers don't lie

South Africa's internally generated revenue is $80bn.
We are one of the least taxed countries in Africa, it is not magic our revenue doesn't correlate with the state of our economy. Ergo, a padded economy. If we are the biggest economy we ought to have the biggest financial power!

Egypt's defence budget last year was $6bn, Algeria was $5bn, Morroco $5bn, South Africa was $11bn. Nigeria was just a measly $3bn and yet we complain about insecurity, we have more security personnel than these countries but they spend more on security than we do. All we know how to do is lament and complain, not research. A truly patriotic citizen would take his or her time to digest the intricacies of the state of our economy.
Succinctly put.

Is FG not only required to fund 15% of the whole project while the investor funds the 85%? Is there any road like that in Nigeria?
Succinctly stated.

I've been quietly reading this thread from page 1 and you're one of the few who CLEARLY articulated your views on this thread topic by using verifiable figures and emphasizing on the PPP nature and funding sources for the project.

Majority of those who are attacking this Coastal highway construction are from the South East and one of them bluntly revealed what's hurting a lot of them by blurted out that the road should have passed through the Ibo South East.

The fact is that this Coastal highway construction had already been planned for decades by previous Nigerian goverments with Jonathan and Buhari bringing the project to public knowledge, BUT the President Tinubu administration kick-started it in order to accelerate the opening of a third economic road and rail link since the North and West are connected already, the North and East are connected, therefore there is an urgent need to connect the South of South states and the West of Nigeria together to complete the road linkages for accelerated development of communities and stimulation of commerce.

Many of these uninformed critics here also do NOT realize that the reclaiming of the land that had disappeared into the ocean to form Eko Atlantic City HELPED to protect the entire Victoria Island from disappearing under water. If Eko Atlantic had not been built to act as a BUFFER, Victoria Island would have been gone due to severe climate change issues. Though it's expensive to buy land there, it is what it is... and would gradually develop as MANY entities have already bought land there at Eko Atlantic, most significant of all is the U.S. Embassy which bought huge tracts of land there and it shows how dear Eko Atlantic is to the U.S. goverment in terms of real estate development.

Lagos Calabar Highway Project is a PPP requiring only FG commitment of 15%. Can you get a company that is is ready for a PPP of Sagamu, Ore to Onitsha road or Sagamu to Benin Road, FG is ready to pay the 15%.

You should ask OBI who was an economic adviser to Jonathan to name one Road Project executed by Jonathan in South West? 2. He should name one Interstate road that began from Lagos or any South West State when Jonathan was in power. OBI is a trader. This is a P P P road. FG only needs to meet 15% of the fund. Atlantic City, Lekki Deep Seaport and Dangote Refineries are the only bitterness he can see.
I pity him.

You people have forgotten that when OBI was the Economic Adviser to Jonathan the road from Lagos to Ore was worse than Ore to Onitsha and Ore to East West Road to Portharcourt. The time you spend from Ore to Lagos was almost thrice the time spent from Asaba to Ore. Why didn't he start from Sagamu

Perhaps you can shrink the picture before attaching it here or give me the link to see the picture.

All the best.

Konquest It seems you are bi polar with mental craw craw grin cheesy because it is obvious that this moniker Konquest and Christistruth00 is one and the same person talking to himself and liking his comments on this thread

Uhundan!!
C'mon don't say that... that's ridiculous and an insult to refer to me as a bipolar.

Some of you just come online and make spurious and defamatory comments against responsible folks that you don't even know because we share the same platform... Do you realize that you're talking to a responsible man and well-traveled man who is over 50 years of age? You have to wake up!

I'm not the same person with @Christistruth00.

Last but not least, I came across this thread and since I have a great interesting in world history, I decided to read and ask questions from those whose have posted here.

angry... Not that im defending these Chinese people, but I've been to China and I know their tradition, Chinese people are extremely discreet, they don't like sharing anything with you. That's why they live in clusters, Chinatown. You hardly see Chinese people intermingle with commoners. And they do it to everyone including Europeans not just blacks alone. I think it's an Asian thing.
I believe why the restricted Nigerians there is fear of their safety, because from the report it started January this year and it was this January that dollars started skyrocketing and food stuffs increased astronomically. So they feared that Nigerians might want to loot their shops or do something sinister to them..
Most immigrants liked and still like to live in clusters or ethnic enclaves.

Back in the early history of U.S. immigration, the Italian, Irish, Jewish, Japanese, and Chinese immigrants for instance all lived In ethnic enclaves... The Jews in NY lived in the Lower East Side of New York. So, it's not peculiar to the Chinese, but it'll be totally irresponsible for the Chinese to prevent citizens of the countries hosting them from gaining access to a Chinese grocery store.

Celestialsword:
The Abuja-based Chinese supermarket criticised for refusing to allow Nigerians to shop in its facility is currently closed, PUNCH Online reports.

Our correspondent who arrived at the premises on Monday at 9.10 am observed that the grocery store was closed with an anti-theft padlock.

Earlier on Sunday, Nigerians had expressed outrage over a discriminatory policy implemented by the Chinese Supermarket, which restricted entry exclusively to its citizens and barred Nigerians.

The supermarket situated at the China General Chamber of Commerce, along Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Road in Abuja, is acclaimed as a destination for Chinese cuisine and beverages.

When our correspondent visited the supermarket to confirm the authenticity of the claim on Sunday, security personnel at the gate confirmed that the management of the store had given the directive at the beginning of the year without giving reasons.

One of the guards who didn’t wear his name tag and declined to disclose his name, said prospective shoppers who are not Chinese are turned back at the gate as directed by the management.

The officer said, “For now, they (management) have stopped everything. The truth is that they are selling, but they said our people should stop coming. They said only Chinese individuals are allowed to shop here. The shop is only meant for Chinese people. People were allowed to come in throughout last year, but since January, they changed the policy and directed that no Nigerian is allowed to enter.

“We were not informed of any reason for the policy, but we have told them to remove all adverts from the Internet so that people would stop coming.”

Our correspondent was, however, allowed entrance because, according to the officer, “Today is Sunday, and you are covered with grace.”

At the grocery store located at Villa 7, a mixture of foreign and local food, drinks, and essential items was showcased on the shelf with no price tag.

One of the attendants, who speaks the Yoruba language, expressed shock that a Nigerian was allowed to gain entry, noting that “Maybe they allowed because you didn’t come with a car.”

She also stated that authorities stopped Nigerians from entering for reasons not known to them.

She noted, “Yes, Nigerians are not allowed to enter the supermarket. Only people who work on the premises are allowed to shop here. There are reasons but we don’t know because it was not like this before. I don’t know how they allowed you in, maybe because you didn’t come with a car. They would never allow anyone who comes with a car to enter the premises.

But at the gate on Monday, our correspondent met another set of security personnel who granted access without any questions.

The guard who did have a name tag said, “You want to go to the supermarket? You can go, without asking further questions.

Attempts to speak with passersby on reasons for the closure proved abortive as they claimed not to have information about the situation.

No one went in or out of the compound for over 45 minutes while our correspondent was outside the premises.

Our correspondent also observed heavy security presence on the street leading to the supermarket.

There had better be a good reason for stopping Nigerians from using that place since January 2024.

But in any event, it's unacceptable foreigners to prevent citizens of their host countries from using specific facilities like that. The government officials in charge of Internal Affairs have to step in to restore normalcy. Period.
