Before a regular Police convert to Mobile Police force. There are process he/she must go through. The major obstacle is Tear Gas endurance.

This process is determined by how a regular Police is able to withstand the heavy smoke from a Tear Gas. Any Police who is unable to endure the smoke, is automatically disqualified.

That's very revealing. For those men and women who passed the tear gas endurance test in the video... Big props to them as they proceed to becoming Mopols.

Tinubu and his goverment MUST kickstart the process of restructuring and decentralization of Nigeria from the unitary system of government that has been in existence since after the first 1966 Military coup.

A lot of the legitimate agitations for secession like this one and others because of banditry in various parts of Nigeria perpetrated by foreign Bororo Fulanis in the Sahelian areas of West Africa would literally die out with improved food and physical security.

How can a country's officials allow foreigners who only speak Fulbe and some French to continue to ravage major parts of your country? It makes no sense tbh. Period.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Unmasking Lies; Exposing Smear Campaign Against Dr. Tinuade Sanda By ADAPHAI by Konquest:
CityMirror:
Unmasking Lies; Exposing Smear Campaign Against Dr. Tinuade Sanda

In her evaluation and submission on quality leadership and administrative skills, the former Prime Minister of Philippines, Gloria Aroyo, posited that:"The greatest test of a leader is ability to be at the fore-front leading with vision; at the middle inspiring with passion; and at the back defending with courage".

The above submission of the "Iron Lady" of Philippines, undoubtedly defines Dr. Tinuade Sanda, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC).

Transforming the Eko Electricity Distribution Company with vision and inspiring productivity and quality delivery with passion, Dr. Sanda has also defended the integrity and sanctity of the company with courage; although, with huge price of character assassination and smear campaign.

Since she came into the saddle in 2022, the woman of high moral values and energy has taken EKEDC to an enviable heights, which automatically elicited profound applause from critical stakeholders across Nigeria, including the Federal Government and various reputable organisations such as VANGUARD and AFRISAFE among others.

Driven by excellence and aggressive consciousness for speedy growth, she has orchestrated a remarkable increase in monthly collections, reaching an impressive 17.1 billion Naira. Her strategic reforms, including the reduction of ATC AND C to 1%, have not only curbed electricity leakages but also boosted operational efficiency for EKEDC.

However, despite these successes, Dr. Sanda has been the target of dangerous attacks and criticisms from certain divisive elements within EKEDC, aimed at tarnishing her reputation and diverting attention from her laudable achievements, especially the humongous fraud she uncovered about ghost workers and payment of salaries to exited staff, which she reported accordingly.

The latest attacks on her personality is the satanic and unfounded claims about her qualifications, which practically defies logic and common sense; it is nothing but blantant lies of unimaginable magnitude, compelling one to doubt the sanity of the paddlers.

Puttung the record straight, Dr. Sanda's educational background is incontrovertible and impressive, with degrees from renowned institutions across the world. She completed her undergraduate studies in Accounting with second class upper honours at the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. Subsequently, she pursued her MBA in Strategy at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh and received certifications from Harvard Business School, Executive Education in “Finance in Senior Executives” in 2015 and “Management Essentials” in 2023.

Furthermore, the contradictory assertion that Dr. Sanda studied at Harvard Business School while her certificate explicitly indicates Harvard Business School, Executive Education, exposes mischief of highest order, it reveals a deliberate and desperate attempt to smear her reputation by her traducers.

These peddlers of falsehood against Dr. Tinuade Sanda know quite well the difference between Harvard Business School, Executive Education, which offers professional development programs, and Harvard Business School, a renowned academic institution where Postgraduate degrees are conferred, since a simple email or website verification with these institutions would confirm the veracity of her academic achievements.

Additionally, her graduation photographs, highlighting these accomplishments are conspiciously displayed on her page @Tinuade_Sanda on Instagram, dating back to the times when she acquired these degrees, providing further credence and refuting any claims suggesting otherwise.

Dr. Tinuade Sanda’s PhD was conferred in 2020 by the University of Management Science and Technology, Republic of Benin, before the concerns regarding accreditation by the National Universities Commission emerged in 2023, an issue faced by some other international institutions including Volta University College, Volta region Ghana, Columbus University, UK, among others. With Dr. Sanda receiving her doctorate in 2020, two years before her appointment as Managing Director in 2022, it is evident that her academic qualifications were attained independently of her professional advancement. It is also imperative to know that a Ph.D. was not a prerequisite for her MD position, rendering any speculation about the desperation for a Ph.D. totally senseless.

The timeline clearly demonstrates that her academic achievements were obtained legitimately and independently of her career advancements. These facts show the lack of credibility and decisively counters any unfounded allegations regarding the authenticity of her certificates.

Furthermore, Dr. Tinuade, a Fellow of ICAN, one of the most prestigious institutions in her field, is the President of the Old Students Association of Accounting, class of 2001 of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife, demonstrating her strong affiliation and connection to her alma mater. Her career is well-documented, including her tenure at organizations such as, Chartered Bank that later merged with Stanbic IBTC and Access Bank, prior to joining WPG and being seconded to EKEDC. Each of these firms conducted thorough investigations before appointing her at various times.

To this end, the less cognitive and illogical narratives of fifth columnists, who are hell bent to defame the towering antecedents and pedigree of Dr. Tinuade Sanda because of her conviction to be open, just and transparent have clearly failed, as the Managing Director of Eko Electricity Distribution Company remains resolute and standing tall against every shenanigan of bunch of criminals within.

Obviously, these cowardly acts of cyberbullying and personal attacks, orchestrated to distract the general public from her sterling achievements have been unmasked and exposed, it must now be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians and stakeholders in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

Dr. Tinuade’s dedication to EKEDC is unwavering, unprecedented and exceptional; her leadership style encompasses integrity, transparency and accountability as organisational standards, while she is being guided by principles of equity and probity as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Eko Electricity Distribution Company.

We, therefore, celebrate an amazon of inestimable value, a pride of womanhood and an exemplary figure for the girl-child, Dr. Tinuade Sanda, as she continues to bring her transformative power of ethical leadership to bear in the management of men and resources at EKEDC, for the benefit and good of all Nigerians.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Tinuade Sanda Flaunted Fake Foreign Degrees To Climb Corporate Ladder by Konquest: 3:05pm On Apr 22, 2024
Abel7777:
The corporate world was recently rocked by the controversial saga surrounding Tinuade Sanda, the former Managing Director and CEO of a major electricity company based in the south west region of Nigeria. But now her credentials and qualifications have also come under intense scrutiny. With serious questions about the veracity of her claimed postgraduate degrees from foreign universities.

Before joining the electricity firm in 2013, Sanda falsely claimed to have headed the Finance and Administration department at Vanguard Energy Resources, a non-operational portfolio oil and gas trading company founded by her then husband Olusola Adebayo Sanda.

Sanda is also the founder of EmHERging, a platform for female young professionals, that prides itself as a mentoring platform out “to create a world where every female young professional, graduate and undergraduate, to be mentored by Tinuade Sanda and other accomplished female business leaders would emerge into leadership roles to maximize their potentials without gender bias in all major sectors of the economy.”

Sanda claims on her resume and LinkedIn profile that she obtained an MBA specialising in Strategic Planning from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, but findings from the online degree awarding institution does not support her claim, as the school does not offer any MBA program in Strategic Planning.

Furthermore, Harvard Business School, one of the world's most prestigious institutions, does not award undergraduate Bachelor's degrees, yet Sanda states she obtained a Barchelors in Applied Sciences “BASc” from there.

Perhaps most egregious is Sanda's Doctor of Philosophy in Financial Management and Entrepreneurship allegedly awarded her on December 5th, 2020 by ICON University Republic of Benin. This institution claims on its website to be recognized by a non-existent "Nigeria's Ministry of Higher Education.”

These revelations cast a long dark shadow over Sanda's meteoric corporate rise propped by these questionable qualifications to the zenith of one of Nigeria's largest electricity distribution companies. A novel feat of becoming the first female to head the establishment - prominently bragged about in her personal corporate profile.

Her rise to the top powered by these bogus seeming qualifications beg questions about the rigor of due diligence conducted on her qualifications by those involved in vetting and appointing her to such critical roles.

Disturbingly, Sanda also flaunts the dubious PhD from the Republic of Benin-based ICON University, a country notorious in recent years for mills churning out fake academic credentials overnight according to investigative reports.

A cursory look at the ICON University website raises obvious credibility issues based on poor grammar and grandiose claims to rival Ivy League institutions.

“ICON University is a fast growing, dynamic vision-birthed, vision driven University founded on a fueled passion to creating a differences and committed to pioneering excellence at the cutting edge of learning. We are driven by the compelling vision of raising a new generation of Leaders for West African and the entire Continent through Human Development, integrated learning curriculum and research.”

That she would take much pride and confidently flaunt these qualifications so confidently on her CV and LinkedIn page really raises a lot of questions about her character and personal integrity.

More damningly, a November 2nd, 2022 letter from Nigeria's Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) to the Disco raised professional concerns about "her lack of technical capacity, administrative competence as well as emotional maturity to run the affairs of the Company."

If all these claims of having earned these certificates are false, it graphically paints a picture of a desperate individual who can go to any length to acquire corporate status, even if that includes lying and forging certificates.

As fallout from the crisis surrounding her removal continues, it is important for Sanda to come clean on the true nature of her educational qualifications, not just for her corporate reputation, but as a test of integrity as a self-acclaimed mentor to young aspiring girls.

While claiming she shattered the corporate glass ceiling through hard work, intellect and integrity, her questionable qualifications and attempt to bring a revered institution like Harvard Business School into disrepute is a repugnant stain on the class she claims to represent. Her type should never be allowed near reputable organizations that prize talent quality.

The scandal further raises bigger questions about lapses in regulatory oversight and corporate governance that enabled Sanda's ascent despite the seeming inauthenticity of her ccredentials.

Stronger verification mechanisms to uphold standards and integrity in executive appointments must be exercised to promote merit and preventing frauds from discrediting institutional reputation.

The unfolding saga surrounding Tinuade Sanda serves as a cautionary tale, highlighting the significance of ethical conduct, honesty, and accountability in corporate leadership. As the dust settles on her tenure at the Disco, the episode prompts a broader reflection on the integrity and credibility expected from individuals entrusted with critical roles in the business landscape.
Furthermore, the contradictory assertion that Dr. Sanda studied at Harvard Business School while her certificate explicitly indicates Harvard Business School, Executive Education, exposes mischief of highest order, it reveals a deliberate and desperate attempt to smear her reputation by her traducers.

The Ogiso dynasty itself was from Ile Ife but they were the Original Land owners and at least 31 Ogiso had rules
Igodomigodo now called Benin before Prince Oranmiyan was sent from Ile Ife to set up a new Oba dynasty

That was the reason why when the Ogiso dynasty ran into trouble it was too Ile Ife the people returned for another King

It was the Pre Oduduwa dynasty of Obatala Ife Kings that sent out the Princes that founded Owo, Benin and all the Ifon Towns all over Yorubaland, and also founded the Ijebu, Ijesha, Owu and Ekiti Clans, Oduduwa afterwards successfully continued the practice of sending out Ife Princes to found New Kingdoms and improved on it greatly
Thanks for the insightful feedback.

With reference to your last paragraph, do you also agree that Oduduwa came originally from an area called Oke Oranfe in Ondo State to establish his new dynasty in Ife as stated somewhere on this forum?

I too have wondered for decades why the Ogiso would send for someone from Ife to rule over them. There had to have been a cultural or trade relationship between Ife and Igodomigo before that.

But then again, the aboriginals in Igodomigo definitely are of a different ethnic stock and that is why the Benin-Edo language or lingo is completely different from the Yoruba language in terms of tonality and more. Although with both the Oranmiyan dynasty and Eweka dynasty in Benin kingdom as the first and second Oba's of Benin (according to the current Oba Ewuare II in his coronation day speech on the 20th of October 2016), we can see an inflow of Yoruba religion, culture and names into the Benin-Edo society with the presence of Oba's market like what you find in other Yoruba kingdoms, Ogun, Osun, Aiyelala, and Yoruba was a palace or court language in the Benin kingdom and later Benin Empire.

That's a fascinating post you made right there with screenshots.

The member of Ogiamien family who was interviewed in the 2018 article below gives the impression that Ogiso dynasty is now refered to as Ogiamien and that the Obaship of Benin is of Yoruba descent. If Ogiso was founded by Obagodo from Ile Ife in Yorubaland, then it presupposes that Ogiso (now Ogiamien is of Yoruba descent too according to your post).

Chukwuka319:
Why do these people love lying so much? How's Delta state part of Yorubaland?
I read one stupid online writeup about Yoruba being indigenous to parts of Delta state.

I have a friend from Delta state whom I asked about Yoruba language presence in the state and he categorically stated that no single part of Delta state speaks Yoruba, but that Itshekiri tribe in the southern part of the state speaks a language very closely related to Yoruba.

He mentioned that the so called " Yoruba" called Olukwumu are actually Igbos whose ancestors migrated from parts of Owo and Akure in what is presently predominantly Yoruba speaking SW.
You are blatantly re-writing history in a manner that is deemed highly dishonest here as a South Eastern Ibo which you definitely are despite the FACT that the traditional rulers of the 2 biggest Olukumi towns and Itsekiris themselves have affirmed their majorly Yoruba ancestries. Even the Anioma people from other towns (like a lawyer that I know from Igbodo in Delta North) respect the Olukumis and the different migratory histories of the different towns in Anioma. It is usually the younger generation of uninformed Ibos from the areas East of River Niger who have a notorious habit of relentlessly insulting the Olukumis and FALSELY calling them derogatory words such as "slaves" simply because they identify as being of Yoruba ancestries! These insults and lies targeted by some ignorant Ibos from the East of River Niger have persisted on online forums for over 16 years now to the point of some fools on online forums threatening that Ibos will chase them back to Yorubaland when the so-called secession takes place in order to have a pure Ibo country to include Delta North.

You and your so-called friend from Delta State are indeed VERY WRONG here and Olukumis are certainly NOT Ibos who came from Owo and Akure but are ORIGINALLY of Yoruba descent. Your alleged friend also knows absolutely NOTHING about the Itsekiris and the Olukumis of Aniocha North in Delta State. The Itsekiris and Olukumis are both of Yoruba ancestries from centuries back.

First off, the Itsekiris are made up of ancestries from 3 major Yoruba subethnic groups namely Ilaje, Ijebu and Ile Ife, a few Igalas (Igalas are also Yoruboid with Yoruba and some Edo bloodlines mixed with a group that migrated to the Rivers Niger and Benue confluence of Kogi State from Wukari in Taraba according to the Attah of Igala in a 2017 Punch interview) with some Bini migration later via Prince Ginuwa (whose mother was the only Queen from Ife married to his father who was the reigning Oba Olua of Benin kingdom when he went into exile from Benin based on the oracle divination) in the year 1480 right into Ode-Itsekiri, a community originally founded by Ijebus under Chief Lenuwa. Ginuwa and his 70 lieutenants came and integrated into the Ijebu community and married the Ijebu women according to the palace accounts I have read.

Of course Prince Ginuwa was well received because the Ijebus felt he was one of them by ancestral origins. There are other Itsekiri communities that were founded by Ijebus (Itsekiris) in the present Itsekiriland hence the language they speak is Yoruboid and can be understood by others right in Yorubaland especially in Eastern Yorubaland where majority of their ancestors migrated from.

The oil and gas-rich Itsekiri community of Ugborodo (WRONGLY called Escravos by the Portuguese and others) was founded by Ilajes who migrated from Ugbo kingdom now in Ondo State over 600 years. Ode-Itsekiri and Omadino are Itsekiri communities founded by Ijebu aborigenes. Ureju was founded by Ife descendants.

As for the Olukumis, the traditional rulers of the Olukumis in the towns of Ugbodu and Eko Efun (otherwise called Ukwu Nzu) meaning white chalk because of the kaolin mineral deposits there, have all been widely interviewed in the newspapers and they both AFFIRMED that their communities have Yoruba ancestries either from Owo, Akure, Usen in Edo State (via Ile Ife), etc. Usen was founded by Prince Oranmiyan's younger brother and it still exists today in Edo State with a traditional ruler or Oba known as the Elawure of Usen. The Olukumis speak the Olukumi dialect which Yorubas who have visited there say they can understand and also speak the Iboid dialect so they are bilingual due to acculturations, but they are NOT Ibos! There are up to 8 of these Odiani towns of Olukumi people and they know themselves and there various histories of migration over the centuries.

Even Onicha Ugbo a non-Olukumi town witnessed some Olukumi settlement in one of their quarters.

=>https://tribuneonlineng.com/yoruba-community-in-the-heart-of-igbo-speaking-delta-produces-own-bible-dictionary/

So, Yoruba bloodlines or Yoruba ancestries are part of Delta State in Itsekiriland and Aniocha North LGA in Anioma which is a location that shares direct boundaries with Esanland in Edo State. Many other towns in Anioma were founded by Bini-Edos, Esan-Edos, Yorubas, Igalas, and Nri elements.

According to the late Reverand Kunirum Osia (who hailed from Obamkpa in Aniocha North and was a Catholic priest at Ibusa, Delta State before moving to Issele Uku with Ibusa refugees under the protection of Nigerian Federal troops for safety reasons after the secessionist rebels invaded the thick forests of Ibusa, during the Nigerian Civil War) it was and is dishonest of the Colonialists and Ibos East of River Niger to continue to refer to the whole of Anioma as Ibos when in actual sense Aniomas of Aniocha, Ndokwa, Ika and Oshimili have multiple ethnic origins on virgin lands as aborigenes and they speak the languages of Igala at Ebu with Asaba and Illah also having Igala settlemens, Olukumi (Yoruba dialect) among the Olukumi Odianis of Aniocha North, Binis of Agbor and elsewhere, Esans of Idumuje Unor, Eastern Ibo. So, all these make up Anioma according to an interview granted by the great son of Nigeria and Obamkpa in Aniocha North LGA, Reverend Kunirum Osia

Second, I agree that a near-absolute and consistent version of the Ile Ife/Benin linkages are needed to avoid regurgitations of amateurish-sounding stories.

It's interesting you say you have a stake in the Oduduwa link through a different Yoruba dynasty... Are you saying here you are a Bini-Edo with a Yoruba dynasty linkage or what.

Also, I saw where you said there are towns that were founded by Edos in eastern Yorubaland but I can't think of any tbh, but you can LIST them here. I do know that the already existing towns of Akure, Ikere-Ekiti, Ado-Ekiti, Owo, Ido Ani, had some Bini immigrant influences centuries back and some kingship tussles exist in a place like Ikere-Ekiti where you have 2 kings with one being of Ikere-Ekiti aborigene descent and the other Oba who came much later from Benin.

I also read a historical account in a news article from the Oba of Ido Ani in Ondo State who is a retired Army General that Oranmiyan's cousin who followed him from Ife to Benin centuries ago, left Benin afterwards and settled in Ido Ani (the maternal hometown of the iconic former UPN Governor of the defunct Bendel State, Professor Ambrose Folorunso Alli's mother) which already existed.

I've been an absolute lover of genealogical, ancestral DNA testings, and world history for decades now, so, I'd like you to expand a little more on what you mean in especially your last paragraph.

PCOS symptoms
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a common hormonal imbalance that can cause many different symptoms including the following:

Ovarian cysts
Infertility
High level of male hormones
High levels of insulin
Weight gain
Ovulation and menstrual problems
Excess body and facial hair or male pattern baldness
Anxiety and depression
Acne
Your eggs may not develop properly and may not fully ripen as a result of unusual hormone levels with PCOS, leading to ovulation disorders and infertility. If you have irregular menstrual cycles or are having trouble getting pregnant, consult your doctor about PCOS infertility testing and treatment options.

PCOS infertility treatment
If you have PCOS and are trying to conceive, the following fertility drug treatments may be helpful.

Metformin (Glucophage) – Your doctor may prescribe medication called metformin to reduce high insulin levels and soothe your hormones. After taking metformin, your ovulation cycles may become more even.

Clomid (clomiphene citrate) – To help you get pregnant without metformin, your doctor may also prescribe the fertility drug clomid. The combination of clomid with metformin often helps women with PCOS get pregnant more quickly than by just using metformin alone. Some women with PCOS may require a very high dose of Clomid to restore fertility, which can sometimes cause uncomfortable side effects.

Gonadotropins – Gonadotropins are naturally occurring hormones that fuel your ovaries to release one or more eggs. This medication may help you ovulate if you are not ovulating frequently. Women with PCOS that do not respond to Clomid treatment may benefit from fertility drug treatment with gonadotropins. If you have PCOS and do not respond to low doses of Clomid, your doctor may also recommend in vitro fertilization (IVF).

PCOS weight loss infertility treatment
Most women with PCOS, struggles with weight problems and infertility. One of the best natural therapies you can do to boost fertility with PCOS is to maintain a healthy weight. A 10 percent reduction in body weight can make a big difference in helping you conceive.

PCOS fertility diet
Polycystic ovary syndrome can also increase your risk for insulin resistance, which can sometimes lead to type 2 diabetes and other health problems. Eating too many processed carbohydrates may increase your risk for insulin resistance but changes to your diet may help. Try reducing your intake of processed carbohydrates, replacing them with whole grains and foods high in dietary fiber.

BusinessRe: Naira: Concerns Over Fresh Threat From Crypto Traders by Konquest:
Islie:
Speculators count losses as naira rises against dollar

Naira will continue to appreciate against dollar – Shettima

The Naira appears to be up against a fresh threat from two crypto exchange platforms, just six weeks after the clamp down on Binance operations in Nigeria. The national currency had slumped badly in the forex market in the weeks preceding the clamp down on Binance, exchanging for as much as N1,950 in mid-February.

But soon afterwards, the Naira started to recover and was at a time N1,200 until the middle of last week when it lost some grounds to the dollar again.

Observers blamed its earlier misfortune on alleged manipulation of the market by Binance and are citing the new crypto exchange platforms BYBIT and BITGET as the cause of the latest slip.

But Vice President Kashim Shettima declared yesterday in Abuja that the Naira would continue its upward mobility against the dollar.

An investigation by The Nation also showed that many speculators who had invested in the dollar in the hope that the naira would go further down are now counting their losses.

On Monday last week, the Naira was N1,100 to a dollar at the black market. It depreciated to N1,148 by Tuesday and N1,169 on Friday. Observers believe this is on account of the operations of the peer to peer platforms and say government must step in to stop the naira slide.

Following the recent recovery of the naira, the global investment banking, securities and investment management firm Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. rated it one of the best performing currencies around the globe.

The firm had initially predicted a naira to dollar exchange rate of 1,200 by year-end 2024 but later said the Nigerian currency could exchange for 1000 to a dollar or even below provided the authorities are able to maintain the tempo of their economic reforms.

This bullish forecast, it said, followed capital inflows and interest rate adjustments, aiding the naira recovery from substantial losses incurred due to two devaluations since June, following the government’s relaxation of currency controls.

Naira’ll continue to appreciate against dollar, Shettima tells LCCI team

But Vice President Shettima is optimistic that the naira is on course to regain its status as a currency to reckon with.

“The naira went haywire and some people were celebrating. But inwardly, we were laughing at them because we knew that we have the leadership to reverse the trend,” the VP’s spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha, quoted him as telling his visitors.

He added: “Asiwaju knows the game, and truly the naira is gaining and the difference will drop further.”

Shettima said government’s decision to end fuel subsidy and unify the multiple exchange rate was necessary to address the challenges facing the country.

On efforts to boost the power sector and generate jobs for youths, he said: “We are determined to ensure that we generate jobs for our youths.

“Honestly, the President’s obsession is to live in a place of glory, to transform this country to a higher pedestal.

“He wants to leave a legacy, one of qualitative leadership, because the hope of the black man, the hope of Africa rests with Nigeria.

“I want to assure you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is one of you. He understands your ecosystem. In this government, you have an ally and a friend,” VP Shettima further noted.

The LCCI delegation presented recommendations to the VP, including the need for more innovations to address insecurity and promote credit access, stimulate investment and support entrepreneurship.

“This could include targeted interventions such as concessional lending facilities, loan guarantees and interest rate subsidies tailored to the needs of SMEs and key sectors of the economy like agriculture, manufacturing and power technology,” he added.

Other members of the LCCI on the delegation included Chief John Odeyemi, Chief Dr. Nike Akande, Asiwaju (Dr.) M. Olawale-Cole, Prince Funayo Okeowo, Gwueke Ajaifa, Sir Ladi Smith, Abimbola Ola, Olufemi Bakare, Ayotunde Coker, Tolulope Adeleke, Stephen Alangbo, Dr Chinyere Almona and Mrs Temitope Akintunde.

Currency speculators count losses as naira rises against dollar

It was gathered that many speculators have lost money following the recent resurgence of the naira.

Such speculators had invested massively in the dollar in the hope that naira would depreciate further.

An investigation by our correspondent revealed that many of the currency hoarders who had envisaged that the value of the naira would depreciate further as low as N2,000 or more to $1 as anticipated in mid-February, have all being proven wrong as the nation’s legal tender has witnessed a rebound.

Some black market operators reportedly lured some of their patrons to dollarise their cash as the naira, in their calculation, would depreciate further.

However, the naira recorded a rebound even beyond the expectations of many, such that the gains of the naira have been the loss of many currency speculators who borrowed money to dollarise their assets.

Confirming this development, one of the BDC operators in Mushin, Lagos, who simply gave his name as Adamu, said: “Some BDC operators lured individuals to buy dollars when it was between N1700-N1800 to the dollar. But now that the naira has recorded a rebound, most of them are counting their losses, no doubt.

“It’s very painful that they had to stake a lot of their hard earned money to do currency speculation.”

Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, a financial lawyer, noted that some individuals who bought N10 million worth of dollars at the black market on February 24 suffered huge losses as the current value of their liquid asset is worth only half the sum.

“If you bought N10 million worth of dollars at the black market on February 24, it’s currently worth about N5 million,” he said.

Writing on his former X handle, A. Ayofe @abdullahayofel last Tuesday recounted the experience of one of the currency speculators who is now in debt as a result of his wrong investment decision.

“Someone I know borrowed N18 million from a money lender to buy $10,000 at N1,800 to $1 in February to pay back N19 million in May (three months) when the dollar gets to say N2,000 or more.

“Today, that N18 million is worth N11 million at N1,100 to $1. He is now looking for where to get extra N8 million to clear his debt as the three months is fast approaching.

“He used his bungalow as collateral. The problem now is that before May, the money could further reduce to N9 million at N900 to $1, making it impossible to retrieve his house.”

Dr. Aminu Gwadabe, the National President of Association of Bureaux de Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON), said the otherwise awkward situation of the naira in the last few months has given way to optimism.

He said: “It is really exciting and interesting as we witnessed profound and significant naira rebounds faster than expected.

“It is a triumph of reality over behaviours that have no economic fundamentals.”

Gwadabe said all those who lost their investable funds during this period have to accept their fate.

“As regards the complaints of people borrowing money to speculate and make a margin, my take is that for any economic activity, there is reward and there is loss.

“So it is a gamble where you either win or lose. They should move on and next time be careful in jumping into what they cannot control.”

On the way forward, the ABCON boss appealed to the CBN and the fiscal authorities to proactively continue to induce confidence in the economy, strengthen stakeholders engagement, quick and fast responses including service delivery.

“Other hanging fruits include harnessing proceeds of diaspora remittances to inject liquidity through the BDCS. There should also be concerted efforts from all agencies of government to de-risk non-oil exports products to have a paradigm shift in our sources of foreign exchange to boost our external buffers.”

He added: “The excellent job of the security agencies in tackling corruption and money laundering should remain the cornerstone of this government. Above all, we must all as Nigerians have a change of mindset.”

Infolenka:
In a time when the beauty of a woman is tied by how much skin she shows, it's refreshing to find women who dress modestly and yet still look more beautiful and more classy than the ones that dress scantily.

The woman below is Busola Tejumola. She is the Executive head of content and West Africa channels at Multichoice Africa.

The first picture is where she initially caught my attention. It was taken during the award presentation ceremony of the recently concluded BBNaija Allstars. She was standing next to the winner Ilebaye Odinaya and some of the other housemates and yet she looked more beautiful, more presentable and sounded more intelligent that them.

This is the kind of person young girls should be trying to emulate, not some empty head that shows breast and ass. And I mean, even at her age she still looks more elegant than many these other girls.

Most women in executive positions are usually facially unattractive or fat or shapeless or just physically unappealing in general, but Busola Tejumola is different. I think she is the most beautiful woman in Nigeria that I have seen head a top company.
Busola Tejumola's resume shows that she's intelligent, looks physically well-toned and pretty too. She reminds me of the lawyer and movie producer, Bolanle Austen-Peters (the legal luminary Chief Afe Babalola's biological daughter) who is still pretty and looking well-toned even in her 50s. Some younger females in their 20s and 30s cannot match her in terms of her youthful looks.

Conversely, most intelligent women in executive positions that I've seen globally are pretty and not like what you've stated in the last paragraph. Some of them are naturally pretty but they tend to dress in a minimalist manner sometimes to work and other corporate events.

Patience Jonathan slipped NNS Centenary into the water in China in 2014 and inaugurated NNS Thunder in 2012 and Aisha Buhari slipped an LNG vessel into the water in Korea in 2016.

In some places the vessel is slipped into the water by breaking a bottle of champagne across its bow.
