gbemishile: When someone says “One Nigeria”, many Nigerians internally scoff. Some even go as far as doing it on the outside.
This is because Nigeria is full of many tribes who do not seem to have a lot in common.
But when you look closely, many Nigerian tribes have many things in common such as culture, food and even languages.
The Yorubas and Igbos may seem to be as different as the sun and moon. But they have lots in common, especially in language.
Here are 7 words you’d find in both Yoruba and Igbo languages , although they may have different meanings and pronunciations:
1. Ile Any Yoruba person will tell you that this word means “House”. In the Igbo language, this word means “Tongue”.
2. Enu In Igbo, enu means “Up” while in Yoruba, it refers to the Mouth.
3. Owu Can you believe this word means the same thing in both languages? Yes, it does. Owu is both the Yoruba and Igbo word for Thread.
4. Ede Ede is the Yoruba word for language. It is also the Igbo word for Cocoyam.
5. Olaniyi In Igbo “Olaniyi” means “Someone that has no value, a waste!” In Yoruba is a name, not just a Name, perhaps it’s a name per excellence which means “Wealth Has Value“. But imagine what the meaning was in Igbo language, someone can’t bear Olaniyi in the east in peace
6. Aja Aja is found in both languages albeit with different meanings. In Igbo, Aja means Sand. But it means Dog in Yoruba.
7. Jide It’s pretty amazing how two different tribes can have the same name for male children. Though to be fair in Igbo, this name is the short form of Jideofor.
In Yoruba, Jide is the short form of Babajide, Olajide etc. In Igbo, Jide means to hold. While in Yoruba, it can mean “has come/resurfaced”.
8. Oja When someone says the word “oja” in Yoruba, they mean market. In Igbo, Oja is the name given to the flute.
Which Other Words That Has Meaning In Both Tribes, Do You Know? Drop your comments..
^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ [1] Ajumobi is a popular family name in Yoruba. Ajumobi is coincidentally also used as a name by some Ibos.
[2] Ajah area of Lekki Peninsula in Lagos State. Ajah is a name in Ibo language
[3] Okuta means stone in Yoruba. "Okute" means stone in Ibo.
But I think because of the Igala landbridge that EXISTS between the Yoruba of Kogi and Anambra axis [where Igalas are also indigenous] Some common Yoruboid words that Igalas and Yorubas share have found their ways into central Ibo language which was actually created by the British colonialists.
Read more here about the IGALA ROOTS derived from the Jukun/Igala/Yoruba/Edo/Ibo ancestral connection as told by the current Attah of Igala [His Royal Majesty, Dr. Michael Idakwo Ameh Oboni].
"Talking about the origin of the Igala people, a sizeable group migrated from Wukari in Taraba State from where they came to Benue along the River Benue and continued very close to the confluence at a place called Amagede by River Benue and slightly down from Amagede downwards to Idah and they settled there. And there, they met a sizeable population of the Yorubas and the Benins and to some extent, some Igbo. So the migrant population from Wukari merged with them and produced a language called Igala as a people."
Also the Olukumis of Aniocha North in Delta State [which shares direct boundaries with Esan in Edo State] and whose ancestors are of Yoruba ancestry via Usen in Benin. Usen in Edo State was founded by Ife immigrants and have Edo/Yoruba cultural influences.
Some words may have found their way from the Olukumis into there Ibo speaking neighbours in Delta North and across the River Niger into Onitsha Ado axis. The Obi of Onitsha said this year when the Ooni of Ife came for the 2018 Ofala Festival that he is a mixture of Edo, Igala, and Ibo ancestries as a result of the migration of his people from Edo to then mix with the Igalas and Ibo in Onitsha Ado.
The Obi of Onitsha said his ancestors were able to CROSS RIVER NIGER when they left Benin with the help of the Igala boat men who usually crossed the River Niger.
The Igalas are the original aborigenes of Onitsha before being joined by others from Benin and elsewhere .
[4] Olowu is a popular Yoruba aristocratic family name but I was stunned to see an Ibo man who heads a professional body in Nigeria bearing Olowu as a surname too!
[5] Obi [Kolanut, Parent, etc in Yoruba] "Igbobi" in Lagos State is a word contraction that is derived from Igbo Obi [Kolanut Plantation]. [I read this from a first-hand source who is now an Oba in Ekiti State. He is a retired Nigerian Army General in the Finance Corp of the Nigerian Army. He saw the Kolanut Plantations around the 1920s when he first came to what is now Lagos State].
Obi is a name in Ibo and also it means a dwelling/house.
[6] Ewure [Goat in Yoruba]. Ewu[Goat in Ibo].
[7] Akuko[COCK in Yoruba]. Alakuko means a cock seller, Just like you have Alausa [which means WALNUT seller/Plantation which used to be located where Oluwalogbon Motors is now located in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State].
Okuko[Means Cock in Ibo].
[8] Oyediya [Oye and Diya are Yoruba words!] Oyediya is an Ibo name used by females.
[9] Uwaleke [Leke is a Yoruba suffix] Uwaleke is an Ibo name. [Uwa is also a Bini-Edo name].
[10] Okoro is a Yoruba name. Okoro is an Ibo name. Okoro is an Urhobo name. Okoro is an Itsekiri name.
[11] Oko means farm in Yoruba. [It has up to 5 meanings in Yoruba language but with the same spelling]. Oko is an Ibo word. Oko is an Itsekiri word. Oko is an Urhobo word
Explorers: My first, she came around 10am, Friday, 5th October, 2018 after so much struggle.
Labour started 3pm, Thursday, 4th October, 2018.
After admitting her, Doctor/nurses will check on her every 30 minutes to see how she's progressing.
From one cm to another took hours, rupturing of membrane manually with so much pain that brought tears to my eyes.
From back pain to stomach and legs. We couldn't sleep through the night.
2minutes of relief and 15minutes of pain, screaming.
The next morning, 5th October, she became so tired, talking was so difficult for her and that became the scariest moment of my life.
Moments later, the doctor called me to his office and said, 'we have to do the needful '.
He told me the bill and i was shocked, 'where would i get it? ' said to myself.
So they brought a document for me to sign, unknowingly, i signed where am supposed to put the date....Lol
They took her in, doctor said 'do you want to witness this? ' i said 'no'. I dont have the heart, i can pass out in there.
I was outside with friends and neighbors.
Moment later we heard ''ween ween ween ween", we all looked at each other and my neighbor 's wife said 'Sile that's your baby'
The door was opened, a nurse stepped out and asked 'who is the father?' i am and she handed her over, immediately, i started crying.
I was crying because of the joy in touching a baby that belongs to me for the first time, also remembering the pain my wife passed through for almost 24hours.
Then i also thought about my late mum, like she passed through this for me to come to life.
Men out there, do you still have a mum, your wife, the mother of your kids.
I think is time we cherish, respect and appreciate them more for what they've passed through and their sacrifice in the labour room/theatre.
I thank God they're both alive and well.
God bless every mother, every mother to be and all ladies/girls out there.
^^^^^ ^^^^^ Brilliant post... Congratulations to @Explorers on the beautiful/cute new addition to your family. Warm regards to all... and make SURE her mom takes her for all the necessary immunizations as and when due to avoid any childhood illnesses such as polio/measles.
Assist23: Dear friends, I need your help with this survey please.
I am trying to do a study on our methods of engaging househelps and managing them
Please this is a no judgement zone. Kindly answer honestly as it will really help my research.
Thank you very much in anticipation of your assistance
No judgment, No attacking other people's opinions:
1. What age range do we feel is ideal for a househelp?
2. What do you think is a fair salary?
3. What measures should be taken to prevent possibility of crime by the househelp or Nanny?
4. What do you think constitutes abuse on the Nanny or househelp ( Where does correction stop and abuse starts? Eg, is it okay to slap, spank, verbally scold?) ?
5. Would you take a househelp for deliverance before engaging her?
Thank you very much
^^^^^ ^^^^^ @Assist23
OK... Here is my response to YOUR ONLINE SURVEY.
1. What age range do we feel is ideal for a househelp?
[18 Years and above. Below 18 is child abuse]
2. What do you think is a fair salary?
[Minimum Wage and above]
3. What measures should be taken to prevent possibility of crime by the househelp or Nanny?
[First off, TAKE THEM FOR "FINGER PRINTING" at the Police Headquarters in your state of residence. I know the last Lagos Police IG [Fatai Owoseni] said this facility is offered for screening all domestic staff. These would serve as a psychological deterrent].
Second, get their mobile phone numbers as well, so they can be tracked by The Police IRT Unit in a worse case scenario if they run away.
Third, do NOT employ a non-citizen of your country because there is a high rate of mischief or crime among them. Better yet... employ someone from your ethnic region so you can easily spot if they are lying about their backgrounds!
4. What do you think constitutes abuse on the Nanny or househelp (Where does correction stop and abuse starts? Eg, is it okay to slap, spank, verbally scold?)?
Non of these verbal or physical abuse is OK... I think using the "Naughty Corner" technique or the "Carrot and Stick" approach works better and they will be loyal to you for lifting them up the social ladder.
Also send them to school or to learn a vocation so that when they live you, they can be useful to society... and wait for this... they will SEE YOU as a MENTOR and will be willing to ASSIST YOU in the future. IT WORKS!
5. Would you take a househelp for deliverance before engaging her?
NO... but background/family checks are needed. Excessive religiousity and the FEAR-FACTOR it induces beffuddles the mind in SUCH INSTANCES and has led to the brutalisation of innocent children used as house helps or domestic workers!
Mujtahida: **It is from the Bible that man has learned cruelty, rapine, and murder; for the belief of a cruel God makes a cruel man-Thomas Paine.
**If a man would follow today, the teachings of the Old Testament, he would be a criminal. If he would follow strictly the teachings of the New, he would be insane-Robert Green Ingersoll
**All the tales of miracles, with which the Old and New Testament are filled, are fit only for impostors to preach and fools to believe-Thomas Paine
**They say that when god was in Jerusalem he forgave his murderers, but now he will not forgive an honest man for differing with him on the subject of the Trinity. They say that God says to me, "Forgive your enemies." I say, "I do;" but he says, "I will damn mine." God should be consistent. If he wants me to forgive my enemies he should forgive his. I am asked to forgive enemies who can hurt me. God is only asked to forgive enemies who cannot hurt him. He certainly ought to be as generous as he asks us to be - Robert G. Ingersoll
**One good schoolmaster is of more use than a hundred priests-Thomas Paine
**And why does this same God tell me how to raise my children when he had to drown his?– Robert G. Ingersoll
**What is it the Bible teaches us?--raping, cruelty, and murder. What is it the New Testament teaches us?--to believe that the Almighty committed debauchery with a woman engaged to be married, and the belief of this debauchery is called faith-Thomas Paine
**I do not believe in forgiveness as it is preached by the church. We do not need the forgiveness of God, but of each other and of ourselves– Robert G. Ingersoll
**I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church. All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian, or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit - Thomas Paine
**No one infers a god from the simple, from the known, from what is understood, but from the complex, from the unknown, and incomprehensible. Our ignorance is God; what we know is science– Robert G. Ingersoll
**The World is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion-Thomas Paine
**My objection to Christianity is that it is infinitely cruel, infinitely selfish, and, I might add, infinitely absurd - Robert Green Ingersoll
**Revelation is necessarily limited to the first communication-- after that it is only an account of something which that person says was a revelation made to him; and though he may find himself obliged to believe it, it can not be incumbent on me to believe it in the same manner; for it was not a revelation made to ME, and I have only his word for it that it was made to him-Thomas Paine
**As a matter of fact, no one knows that God exists and no one knows that God does not exist. To my mind there is no evidence that God exists - that this world is governed by a being of infinite goodness, wisdom and power, but I do not pretend to know-Robert Green Ingersoll
**Science is the true theology - Thomas Paine
**When I became convinced that the universe is natural, that all the ghosts and gods are myths, there entered into my brain, into my soul, into every drop of my blood the sense, the feeling, the joy of freedom. The walls of my prison crumbled and fell. The dungeon was flooded with light and all the bolts and bars and manacles became dust.– Robert G. Ingersoll
**The study of theology, as it stands in the Christian churches, is the study of nothing; it is founded on nothing; it rests on no principles; it proceeds by no authority; it has no data; it can demonstrate nothing, and it admits of no conclusion- Thomas Paine
**As long as every question is answered by the word “God,” scientific inquiry is simply impossible.– Robert G. Ingersoll
**Priests and conjurors are of the same trade-Thomas Paine
**Whenever a man believes that he has the exact truth from God, there is in that man no spirit of compromise. He has not the modesty born of the imperfections of human nature; he has the arrogance of theological certainty and the tyranny born of ignorant assurance. Believing himself to be the slave of God, he imitates his master, and of all tyrants the worst is a slave in power-Robert Green Ingersoll
**That God cannot lie, is no advantage to your argument, because it is no proof that priests can not, or that the Bible does not- Thomas Paine
**The Old Testament filled this world with tyranny and injustice, and the New gives us a future filled with pain for nearly all of the sons of men. The Old Testament describes the hell of the past, and the New the hell of the future-Robert Green Ingersoll
**The Bible is a book that has been read more and examined less than any book that ever existed - Thomas Paine
**Ignorance worships mystery; reason explains it; the one grovels, the other soars-Robert Green Ingersoll
**The declaration which says that God visits the sins of the fathers upon the children is contrary to every principle of moral justice- Thomas Paine
**Take from the church the miraculous, the supernatural, the incomprehensible, the unreasonable, the impossible, the unknowable, the absurd, and nothing but a vacuum remains. Robert Green Ingersoll
**Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and tortuous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we call it the word of a demon than the word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind; and, for my part, I sincerely detest it, as I detest everything that is cruel- Thomas Paine
** Our hope of immortality does not come from any religions, but nearly all religions come from that hope-Robert Green Ingersoll
**There are matters in the Bible, said to be done by the express commandment of God, that are shocking to humanity and to every idea we have of moral justice . . . Thomas Paine
**Ignorance is the soil in which belief in miracles grows– Robert G. Ingersoll
**It is far better that we admitted a thousand devils to roam at large than that we permitted one such impostor and monster as Moses, Joshua, Samuel, and the Bible prophets, to come with the pretended word of God and have credit among us- Thomas Paine
**And yet this same Deity says to me, resist not evil; pray for those that despitefully use you; love your enemies, but I will eternally damn mine. It seems to me that even gods should practice what they preach-Robert Green Ingersoll
**As to the book called the Bible, it is blasphemy to call it the Word of God. It is a book of lies and contradictions, and a history of bad times and bad men. There are but a few good characters in the whole book- Thomas Paine, Letter to William Duane
**The most detestable wickedness, the most horrid cruelties, and the greatest miseries that have afflicted the human race have had their origin in this thing called revelation, or revealed religion. It has been the most destructive to the peace of man since man began to exist. Among the most detestable villains in history, you could not find one worse than Moses, who gave an order to butcher the boys, to massacre the mothers and then rape the daughters. One of the most horrible atrocities found in the literature of any nation. I would not dishonor my Creator's name by attaching it to this filthy book -Thomas Paine
**I belong to the Great Church which holds the world within its starlit aisles; that claims the great and good of every race and clime; that finds with joy the grain of gold in every creed, and floods with light and love the germs of good in every soul- Robert Green Ingersoll
**The story of the redemption will not stand examination. That man should redeem himself from the sin of eating an apple by committing a murder on Jesus Christ, is the strangest system of religion ever set up- Thomas Paine
**Justice is the only worship. Love is the only priest. Ignorance is the only slavery. Happiness is the only good. The time to be happy is now, The place to be happy is here, The way to be happy is to make others so. Wisdom is the science of happiness. – Robert G. Ingersoll
**Of all the tyrannies that affect mankind, tyranny in religion is the worst; every other species of tyranny is limited to the world we live in, but this attempts to stride beyond the grave, and seeks to pursue us into eternity- Thomas Paine
**Religion is one of the phases of thought through which the world is passing-Robert G. Ingersoll
^^^^^ ^^^^^ I've read Thomas Paine's "The Age of Reason" and works of Robert Ingersoll. My life became even more illuminated from all the medieval religious and non-religious dogmas that are still circulating in the 21st century.
Wow... Happy birthday @naptu2. I was just reading a few Nland posts as of now and saw this thread by Ishilove.
Happy belated birthday to you and thanks for the all the illuminating posts you have always made on Nland. I've never met you in person, but you are one of those on NL that have got positive vibes embedded in you.
Much respect and I wish you the very BEST as you advance in age with style.
“Ranti omo eni ti iwon se. Remember whose daughter you are,” My father’s parting words as I knelt down before him to thank him for all he had done these past days—the money for my fees, provisions and everything. My farewell.
The next day would be the beginning of a new journey for me. I would wake up on a strange bed for the first time in my life. I would wake to a new dawn as a university student. It also meant that for the first time in my life, I would make decisions for myself.
Far from home. The big prayer bell that sat on the television no longer rang. My Mum no longer bored me with the rigidity of the food timetable for the house. There was no more fashion police “that is too short!” “Dont wear make-up!”
My new found freedom excited me. The smell of my new clothes excited me more—filled me with great pride, making me walk a little slower. My chest pulled out a little more, my buttocks arched further backwards, my waist twisting, no curling like a snake that just discovered its twisting skills.
Lagos was where my eyes opened. Where I learnt the act of make up with brown powder and cheap lipsticks. Where I knew that you had to do more than lipsticks to be the centre of a man’s attention. Where I knew that my mother’s message of getting pregnant if a guy touches you was not true at all. Where I knew that a girl could protect herself, with condoms and common sense.
It was where my auntie’s advice made more sense to me. Auntie Abeke, my buxom aunty, the one with the large buttocks that made the chairs creak in pain; the creaks, a witness to our conversations.
“A girl who sleeps with a man before marriage is cheap,” she said, pronouncing “cheap” as “sheep”.
What of a girl who sleeps with more than one man? I wondered but never asked; I only nodded in agreement.
So each day, I held my head up, chest out, and glided gracefully around town proud to be ‘expensive’. I raised my nose at my roommates as they spoke of their sexploits—Expensive Hauwa, the one who would go every Friday to meet Alhaji for the weekend; Shameless Tola, who had no shame and kept female condoms in different parts of her bag; Happy Happiness, who boasted that all the happiness in the world dwelt between her thighs. I, untouched priceless, had nothing to say, until…
I met a fine suave dude. Very tall, well-built third year student. He had an easy laugh. It was that laugh that got me. It was that laugh that melted all the hardness within me.
My eyes were his first love.
“I love your eyes. I love the way they look when I look into them. The way I see myself in them, in you.”
“I love your eyes. I look into them and see my dreams become a reality.”
If his laugh got me, his words finished me. The words broke down the walls of Jericho I’d built around myself. Walls that brick after brick of words had put in place, year after year.
Then, he would come to Aunty Abeke’s house every day to visit me… always coming with gifts. For me and my Aunty.
“You know Adunni, you should begin to think about marriage.” She said one day.
“He is a fine gentle man.” She said on another.
Alone with him, he would touch me. He would start by staring into my eyes, and saying things about dreams and visions merging there. His words started melting my insides and things poured out “down there,” and made my pant sticky.
Then, his hands would stay long on my face, stroking it. Then, travel down my breasts. Then, I would begin to quake. Then, it would travel further down, down there. More stickiness down there.
Then, I would get upset because I did not know this thing that he was doing to my body. I did not know how to control it, or myself. So, I would get upset.
“I’m just playing, oya, I’m sorry.” He would say.
On a certain cold Tuesday, he came to take me out to see a play on the campus in a borrowed ride.
I wore my favourite orange dress. The one that ended right on my knees, with a little slit around the cleavage. “Small enough to tempt and not fall,” my room mates called such slits.
When we got on the university grounds, he swerved off into a narrow path which led us further into the darkness.
Then he stopped at a corner.
“Where are we?” I asked. He got down, opened the door on my side and started hitting my face while dragging me down forcefully.
“You think the gifts were for free?” He asked, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down like stuck boiled egg unsure whether to go down into his stomach or come out through his mouth.
“The watches, the phone, just for me to touch you? Answer me!” The veins in his neck were like tiny serpents threatening to strike me. I had no chance to open my mouth as his blow landed on my left cheek, and shut my mouth.
The words that were forming in my throat were sent back to where they came from, scattered nothings. I remember having the sensation of having my mouth filled with eri, corn shaft.
Things happened so fast: the struggles, the blows, the ripped clothes and the screams. He spread my legs, and made to lower himself on me. I went berserk, bonkers, bananas, all at the same time, in the same moment. I fought with all the energy within me. Gave him a kick between his legs. Pushed his groaning body off me. I did not leave without leaving a reminder. I bit off the tip of his penis, and left him writhing in pain. I was so mad, I did not know what I did until I got home.
Aunty Abeke’s voice kept ringing in my ears, with each step, with each blast of the winds against my sodden bloodied face. My dirty legs and hands sweating profusely like a Christmas chicken.
“I will not be cheapened!” I muttered to no one.

ngoremeka: 1. What is the Chi Energy Pendant? The Chi Energy Pendant produces frequency which Prognos tests show can lead to an increase in energy levels. The Chi Energy Pendant is designed to help and enhance strength, stamina and endurance as well as being a mental stimulus.
2. How does it work? The frequency generated can stimulate the brain’s functionality while awake and reduces the effects of E-Smog. Kinesiology tests are shown to be positive when the Chi Energy Pendant is worn.
3. How does the Chi Energy Pendant transfer energy to water? ”. When the pendant is spun around the glass of water, the frequency ( Alpha rhythm) is transferred through the pulsing action into the water. The effects last for just two hours.. However, the main use of the Chi Pendant is not its ability to create energised water, but to enhance the energy effects of the brain's functionality and to reduce the effects of E- Smog. NOTE:THE PENDANT SHOULD NOT BE CONFUSED WITH THE EFFECTS OF THE BIO DISC AS THEY ARE DESIGNED FOR TWO DIFFERING POSITIVE EFFECTS.
4. Is there an expiry date? No known data exists as there are no moving parts. The original samples show no sign of reduced energy or frequency since the date of manufacture.
5. What is a frequency? All known living things are governed by a ‘frequency’. This frequency can be affected positively or negatively by certain other frequencies such as electro magnetic fields which are negative to the body for example , mobile phones, computer screens and even air flight (jet lag). The positive frequency of the Chi Energy Pendant reduces the effects of negative electro magnetic fields.
6. How far can the energy be transferred? Over a 500 mm circumference. The Chi Pendant should be worn to hang on the chest .
7. Can I use it to improve sleep? How should I do it? No. The pendant stimulates strength, stamina and endurance so should not be worn during sleep. The pendant should also not be worn by females during menstruation as the female hormones are over energised by the pendant at this time.
8. How does the Chi Energy Pendant prevent Jet lag? It reduces the effects of Electro Smog on the body by constantly producing the correct frequency for strength which overcomes the negative effects of the build-up of electro smog in the aircraft cabin.
9. What other benefits does the Chi Energy Pendant have? Endurance and mental stimulus can increase the brain’s ability to cope with long hours of work. Long Distance runners, boxers and others who require strength and stamina can really benefit from this. Students using the pendant during school exams can have heightened memory abilities.
10. Does it have any side effects? The energy produced which is called 'Scalar Energy' is a natural form of healing energy which has been in existence for many years but whose application has been recently discovered.

Nigeria’s fastest-growing airline, Air Peace made its inaugural flight from the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos into the Akure Airport on Sunday, with a delighted crowd of Ondo State government officials, aviation regulators investors and other dignitaries giving the airline a rousing welcome in Akure.
On board the maiden Lagos-Akure flight, which touched down to a spectacular water salute from two trucks mounted by officers of the Fire Service Department of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) at the Akure Airport, where the Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Mr. Allen Onyema, Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Olajide, the carrier’s Ambassador, Kcee and other dignitaries.
Ondo State First Lady, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu and the Deputy Governor, Mr. Agbola Ajayi led a mixed crowd of government officials and other dignitaries to receive the Boeing 737 aircraft with registration mark 5N-BQO at the Akure Airport.
Governor Akeredolu, who could not conceal his joy at Air Peace’s entry into the Akure-Lagos-Akure route, said his administration decided to partner with the airline to drive the economic development of the oil-producing state through air transportation.
Emphasising the benefits of partnering with the airline in the areas of tourism and investment, the governor said: “No doubt, we have an air link to Ondo from Lagos, it means a lot to Ondo State people. Our drive is for investment and a lot of our investors want to come in.”
He added: “We are starting with Lagos-Akure and Akure back to Lagos. We already have an airline running Akure-Abuja but it would not stop Air Peace if they find out that they can also do combined flight. It will be in our interest, but what we have now is Lagos-Akure, Akure-Lagos with Air Peace.”
He advised officials of the state government to take advantage of the new flight service to avoid kidnappers and other criminal elements, warning that his administration would not pay ransom to secure anybody’s release.
Air Peace, the governor revealed, was preferred among other airlines the state negotiated with.
“We discussed with many airlines, but those involved in the negotiations were able to report to me that Air Peace gave us the best in terms of their offer. The offer appears better than other airlines. And again, it is a growing airline. They have even promised us to deploy one of their expected new aircraft to this route,” Akeredolu said.
He praised the Chairman of Air Peace, Mr. Allen Onyema for supporting his administration’s effort to open up Ondo State to investors and investment.
On his part, Onyema assured that Air Peace was in Ondo State to collaborate with the Akeredolu administration to boost the economy of the state and power the development of the country through air transport.
“It is part of Air Peace’s drive to contribute to the unity and development of this country. So, you can see now, N10,000 for a one-way trip; it has never happened before. We decided to do this in order to assist Ondo State. Human and mineral resources abound in Ondo State. We want to help investors go into Akure and Ondo State. Aviation is a catalyst for economic development. It is part of our policy to give every part of this country a chance to develop. We are going into Akure to help them actualise their own economic development plan. Investors are already asking questions about the state. They are looking forward to going there.”
Also Speaking, Senior Special Assistant to Ondo State Governor on Development and Investment, Mr. Boye Oyewumi, said the administration was serious about making the state an investor destination in the country.
AutoReportNG: All is now set for the official commission or can we say relaunch or the remodeled Port International Airport.
The Port Harcourt airport has been rated as one of the worst airports in Nigeria despite being one of the busiest in the country with chunks of revenue to the Federal Government.
According to Wikipedia, Port Harcourt International Airport is an international airport located in Omagwa, a suburb of Port Harcourt, the capital city of the Rivers State in Nigeria. The airport has a single terminal with separate facilities for international and domestic flights. In 2009, the airport served 1,081,587 passengers, making it the third-busiest airport in Nigeria.
On 18 August 2006, the airport was closed for repairs. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority stated that the emergency shutdown was in order to overhaul the runway and build a fence around the facility. Such maintenance had been in planning stages for several months, but an electrical fire on 17 August 2006 made repairs immediately necessary. All domestic flights were diverted to Sam Mbakwe Airport (Owerri), Akanu Ibiam International Airport (Enugu) and Margaret Ekpo International Airport (Calabar), while international flights were diverted to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (Abuja) or Murtala Mohammed International Airport (Lagos).
Repair work started in January 2007, while re-opening was originally expected to be in August 2007. In June 2007, work was suspended due to safety concerns of the engineers.
In December 2007, the airport was reopened to a limited capacity. Operations were restricted to daytime until the first quarter of 2008, by which time the new CAT III lighting system became fully operational.
The FAAN has released some pictures which show the finished hub and ready for business.
^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ Nice one from the PMB administration via Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi's doggedness. Amaechi is also working hard to make sure that the December 2018 delivery date for the Lagos-Kano Modern Standard Guage line linking the Seaport is completed in record time.
He was in Abeokuta a month ago again to check on the status of the New Rail Terminal there too. If they can complete these works, they will get more votes in 2019 based on performance... Amaechi is very hardworking and visible and should be retained in the NEXT PMB CABINET IN 2019.
Well done to the Government on the PH Airport Remodelling! MORE can still be done with the concessioning of the Airports. These are the positive stories I like to read. Thank you!

"... that was the way our forefathers used to dress before the arrival of the West. As a matter of fact, some months ago, a picture circulated on the Internet of a wealthy Igbo farmer who dressed that way in 1930."
Brymo's information is very MISLEADING because the Yoruba people from which Brymo originates from wore and made/weaved cloths going back to several centuries. Infact the advanced history books I have read indicated that the cloth that was made in Oyo centuries ago was superior to Manchester cloth by some British traders who visited Oyo.
Brymo is historically ignorant of the FACT that it is the Ibos and a few Nigerian tribes that Lord Lugard and Sir Allan Burns refered to as "Primitive tribes" in their books that were dressing half-naked. The British regarded the following empires: Benin, Oyo, Kanem-Borno, and the Sokoto Caliphate as "Advanced Civilisations" in their books that I've read!
In fact Ibo women in many areas up to the 1930s went about bare chested without covering their upper parts with a small covering for their lower private parts [saw this in a late 1890s picture], the Ibo men also only wore a small loin cloth which looked like a G-String just to cover the penile part. Even Jajas wives who took pictures with him in the 1870s in Opobo [originally called Ikot Abasi] did NOT cover their breasts. But this is NOT so with Yoruba, Edo, Kanuri peoples, and other advanced civilisations.
Achebe even mentioned this in his book!
It was the British that put a stop to dressing half-naked by Ibos and some other tribes. I have seen pictures from Udi hills from the 1930s where young Ibo natives wore only loin cloths.
kahal29: Chapter 3 paragraph 3.11, step 14 of the Manual for Election Officials (updated version) at page 325 of Volume 1 of the record provides:
3.11: Final Collation and Declaration of Governorship Election Results at State Level: The State Collation/Returning Officer for the Governorship shall:
Step 14: "Where the margin of win between the two leading candidates is not in excess of the total number of registered voters of the polling unit(s) where elections were cancelled or not held, decline to make a return until another poll has taken place in the affected polling unit(s) and the results incorporated into a new Form EC8D and subsequently recorded into a new form EC8E for Declaration and Return." (Emphasis mine)
The provision is clear and straight forward and did not require a foray into any other provisions in the Manual for it to be effected. There is no dispute as to the fact that the margin between the votes scored by the late Prince Audu and the appellant on the one hand and Capt. Wada and Arch. Awoniyi, on the other was 41,619, which was less than the total number of registered voters in the 91 polling units where votes were cancelled. I therefore agree with the court below that the 1st respondent was correct to have declared the election inconclusive on the basis of the number of registered voters in the 91 affected polling units. Having regard to the clear provisions of the Election Manual, it would have been wrong for any electoral official to base his decision on any other consideration, such as the number of registered voters who had collected their PVCs,or the geographical spread of the votes already cast. Clear and unambiguous provisions must be given their natural and ordinary meaning. Neither the court nor learned counsel is entitled to read into a provision what it does not contain.
I must at this stage make a brief reference to Chief Olanipekun's contention that the lower court made a finding that the appellant and the late Prince Audu met the requirements of Section 179(2) but failed to give the proper legal effect to such finding and that there is no appeal against the said finding. I have carefully examined the portion the judgment referred to at pages 1605 - 1606 of Volume 3 of the record, which reads:
"In the light of the facts and circumstances of this case, the appellant has contended that the failure of INEC to apply Section 181(1) of the Constitution in declaring the appellant as the duly elected Governor as at 21-11-2015 is an affront to and a disregard of the Constitution. The question which logically rises from Section 179(2) is whether, as at 21-11-2015, the joint ticket of Prince Audu and the appellant met the requirements of the provision.
The application of this provision turns on the peculiar facts and circumstances of the instant case. The law is trite that where any candidate to the office of a Governor meets with these requirements, he should be declared winner and returned as the duly elected Governor. This much has been held in a plethora of decided cases such as: Ngige V Obi (2006) 14 NWLR held that in the absence of a return by the 1* respondent declaring the appellant and the late Prince Audu as the duly elected Governor and Deputy Governor respectively, neither of them could be deemed to have been duly elected on 21/11/2015 as required by Section 179(2) of the Constitution.
The election conducted on 21/11/2015 was inconclusive until after the conduct of the supplementary election on 5/12/2015 which brought the entire process to conclusion.
It follows therefore, that as the appellant and Prince Audu were not returned as duly elected, there was no basis for the application of Section 181(1) of the Constitution, which allows a Deputy Governor elected with a duly elected Governor to step into the Governor's shoes in the event of death or any other factor leading to his inability to subscribe to the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of office.
No mind them...it's like this. When it favors them, they will be happy, praise God, praise inec, exclaim that the will of the people has been manifested, etc
When it don't, they shout blue murder, inec is bias, our democracy is trampled on, no rule of the law, Buhari is wicked, etc
At the end, I simply ignore them, for if life has taught me any thing, it is that politics is like religion. It bias the mind and blind the heart. Two different sets of standards are applied when an individual is affect.
To PDP, if you are not satisfied and since you are not, approach the court. Simple.

Awesome thread dedicated to a UNIQUE and Beautiful People.
fratermathy: Nothing is factual about this. It is simply the Op's interpretation of history. What is generally accepted by everyone is that Urhobos originated from Aka (Benin). Some clans like Okpe claim Ife (Yoruba) ancestry but nothing connects us to Egypt directly. What you see here is a case of "You see exactly what you want to see".
^^^^ ^^^^ @fratermathy
Thanks for this info... "straight to the point and beautifully worded." About the Okpe people/clan... did they directly come from Ife or did they first settle in Benin before migrating to their current location with their Urhobo kith-and-kin?
It is good to have people like you on NL who are helping to set the historical records straight.
fratermathy: This thread is a kind of pseudo-history. The Op is not the first to venture into this waters. We have the likes of Dr. Charles Osume who wrote a book titled The Okpe People, as well as Bobson Gbinije, among others. Their argument is that Urhobos originate directly from Egypt. While the theory is plausible, it is inherently flawed because all Urhobo myths, legends and historians trace our origin to Aka (Benin) or Ife (in the case of some clans).
I only appreciate this thread because it foregrounded Urhobo people. However, everyone should be wary of its content and regard it as purely pseudo-history. Urhobos are from Udo in Ancient Benin and we arrived our current lands at different migratory waves. Some Urhobo clans came from Isoko and some Isoko clans came from Urhobo. That is the standard academic history of Urhobo people.
