HBB1: Cost of admission daily in the NHS is about 800 pounds ( it was 600-800 pounds some years back).
If you call for an ambulance, 800 pounds... A friend had to pay for an MRI once (since his NHS hospital's own was down)-- 950 pounds!
The State pays for all this!
The doctor doesn't have to rack his brain on what tests to do or not do ( because of his cheap patients). You can do MRIs, HRCTs, CTPAs (basic things in oyibo land)-- not just malaria and typhoid!
People won't even pay for a bloody CRP in Nigeria, so the Doctor continues treating malaria and typhoid for someone whose kidneys are fried-- in Kidney failure.
If you are prosecuting a war, you don't mind your ammunitions, you fire away-- imagine being a soldier at the war front and counting your bullets. Will you fight like the American Marine?
Even though I can't excuse the crass incompetence of the bad eggs, the good Nigerian Doctors and a significant number of them are decent, are counting their bullets.
What do the nationals then expect? Miracles?
You expect Oyinbo standard at Surulere rates? I only said that you should look at both sides of the coin. In an organised country like the Uk, there are jobs, citizens work and pay tax and national insurance while a percentage of your earnings is saved for you to be accessed when you retire...In Nigeria the likes of Maina would dip their filthy hands in your life savings and flee. Those without jobs are also not overlooked. While efforts are made to secure jobs for those capable of doing it, those who for medical or reasons of disabilities are not able to work receive financial aids. How can the average Nigerian citizens afford those? People will do all sorts to stay alive. I worked in healthcare in Nigeria. I’ve seen a patient using stainless steel bed pan to eat. I made a report about it, explained to the patient what the bed pan was for, had it withdrawn. After a week in the private hospital, the patient was discharged, that same day, it was observed that the bed pan was stolen... |

helpee: You really don't understand. The major problem is always money. You need to do CT scan of 45k to properly diagnose a patient they tell you no money. You do your best to stabilise the patient without the test, they will say the treatment was sub standard and the hospital has no equipment. You refer them they will say you rejected them. You use your money and maybe the patient couldn't make it, they won't pay a dime and still fights you. In advanced economies, money is not a problem for the doctor. He needs CT scan he gets it done. He needs surgery he gets it done . So money is the main issue since the doctor is not getting funding in any other place....
NB...and do you by any chance assume this money we are talking about is the profit of the doctor? Oh no. It is essentially to get the patient well. If you have to do what an average doctor does in America to diagnose a stroke, you will spend at least one million. The doctor abroad don't care about this since someone is paying for it. This patient comes in the middle of the night in Nigeria without any money claiming no ATM and somehow expects a magic. The doctor refers...they will say he didn't do first aid. He rejected them.because of money. Do your best with what you have, they won't pay a dime by the morning. They will just say their uncle said they should bring the patient to the village. While you heap blames on the patient, remember not to absolve the society and environment that made it hard for him to access affordable, safe and effective health care. Advanced economies that you mentioned would have some healthcare insurances for their citizens. In the Uk which I think has the best healthcare system in the world, every citizen is registered with a general practitioner meaning that everybody irrespective of your economic or social class would have a doctor and access to healthcare. I know someone with a genetic abnormality who would’ve had it very rough were this individual to be in Nigeria but instead receives the best medical care possible without paying for it. Blame the system and structure in place that robs people of adequate medical care. How much is the average civil servant getting a month to afford a CT scan? |

safarigirl: Generalization is part of human nature to an extent.
I don't go out enough times to meet a lot of people, and the things I see cause me to be cautious and reserved. I don't doubt there are amazing people out there, I just don't feel confident enough that I will ever find these people. It will be a miracle finding the ‘right kind’ of people only through online interaction. You might be awed by a Mourihno or Neville kind of online posters who knows his football in and out but would be less impressed when you meet them offline. Nothing beats physical interaction aka going out there and meeting people. A Denzel Washington character you meet online might turn out to be a Mr Jaguar or Ibu...apologies to these Nollywood legends. The ones you might criticise or get irritated of by their supposedly lack of knowledge in areas that you are knowledgeable and versed or those that might annoy you by their grammars might be the ones that you find really attracted to ‘outside of the keyboard’ Someone that I know swore that he’d never have anything to do with short girls. He crushed on and dated Kate Henshaws kind of women...His wedding was last October and his wife narrowly escaped dwarfism. Even Mr Cork of Nairaland might end up with the darkest Southern Sudanese girl. Go out there and socialise. Worrying about dangers or all sorts of ills out there isn’t healthy. A little bit of risk will change your life. |

Siblings were pioneers of medicine and legal profession in Nigeria. Fela knew what he wanted and he followed his dream and passion against parents wishes. He was an extraordinary human being, full of talent, courage and energy. Unlike musicians of today, he actually went to a school of music in England. I bet she gave him the mobile contact. I see nothing wrong in the message except the guy breached some confidential protocol to obtain her number. I think it would’ve been unprofessional and would constitute harassment if he did and if he continued sending her unsolicited texts after the warning to discontinue.
I doubt her claim though. What’s wrong in a security guy attempting to woo a woman by text? He needs love too. |

Showbby28: Kenneth Udeh
As bill for establishment of Federal of College Education, Kaduna, scales second reading.
Senator Sani, Uba representing Kaduna Central, has expressed his concern over the poor quality of teachers in the country, stating that schools no longer employ teachers who had acquired teacher formal training qualification(s).
The Kaduna Senator made this assertion on Wednesday’s Senate plenary during the presentation of the second reading of bill sponsored by himself titled “A Bill for an Act to provide for the establishment of the Federal College of Education Giwa, Kaduna State and for other related matter thereof,2019 (SB.121) “.
Sani, during his presentation noted that the mass failures recorded in WAEC,UTME and other public examinations was a result of the deficit in the quality of teachers in schools in the country.
He said “The statistics is very scary with the population of our out school children in Nigeria which has risen from 10.5 million to 13.2 million and a massive failure of students in WAEC and NECO examinations. For those who passed out of secondary schools getting admission into tertiary institutions is now a Herculean task due to limited spaces.
“In 2017,1.8 million candidates who registered for the UTME were jostling for 850,000 admission spaces. A key issue that has been raised in respect to the falling standard of education is quality of teachers in our primary and secondary schools.
“There was a time in Nigeria when teachers colleges and colleges of education were given priority attention by the government. The quality teachers of teachers it produced, raised the standard of education and teachers commanded the respect and admiration of Nigerians.
Teaching has currently become an all comers affair, schools hardly insist on employing those who have gone through formal teachers training. The consequence has been a steady drop in the quality of students produced.
It is time we refocus attention on teacher’s colleges and colleges of Education.
“We must address the quality of teacher’s deficit in our educational system, the proposed Federal College of Education Giwa, Kaduna State .
We owe our children quality education, that is the only way we can compete effectively in the global economy. Quality education is the key to unlocking opportunities. As leaders, we are in a better position to understand and appreciate the value of education as a critical tool for economic growth and development.
It is, therefore our responsibility as representatives of the people to ensure that we channel funds to serve the most critical needs of the people amongst which is the provision of qualitative education.
Senator Gyang Istifanus (Plateau North), speaking in the same vein in support of the bill decried the alarming rate of out of school children in the North. He called on the Government to pay attention to teacher training noting that enrollment of children in schools was insufficient to address the educational challenges.
He said” We have witnessed the issue of out school children that has characterised the Northern part of the country and particularly the Northwest and steps are being taken to address this issue through aggressive enrollment of pupils and students.
One major issue is lack of teachers that meet up the teaching requirement, like in Kaduna State and became an issue that generated a lot of attention in the country . This requires that we need to have an institution that will train teachers that will be deployed to provide the necessary manpower in schools. It is not enough to have education infrastructure, it is not enough to have enrollment but it’s crucial to have the right staff and teachers that will man the school so established. I support the establishment of the institution (the bill), so that we do not have only the hardware but these software that is the teachers that will man the institutions.
The Senate referred the bill to the Senate committee on Tertiary Institutions for further consideration with a mandate to report back within four weeks.

Expulsion was harsh. Unexpected though from an institution of ‘morarists’.
I think the two should attend a course on hygiene. The boy was wearing his trousers high up with his boxers slightly down and enough to prod back and forth...smearing cream and fluid all over his boxers and trousers....I hate to type this but I have to give maximum ‘respect’ to the girl...
She pulled out, sucked him dry just as he was about to cum...
Now this boy instead of rushing to the bathroom to clean and freshen up, he put back his Mandingo right inside his boxers... who does that??

bluntspade: Sound waves Sound waves have nothing to do with that phenomenon. It’s actually pressure change in the room that causes it. Use the syringe as an example, when it’s drawn, (plunger pulled) the pressure in the syringe drops or reduces and fluid rushes in but when it’s pushed in, ( plunger pushed in) the pressure increases and there’s an impact on the opposite end...content of the syringe is compressed and fluid rushes out or if you place your finger tip on the nozzle (opening), you’ll feel air pushing on your finger... Back to the room using the syringe analogy. Direction of the door opening affects pressure change and whether the opposite door will swing open or shut so imagine the room or space to be some sort of vacuum. When the door is opened outwards(away from the room) the pressure drops...sucking on the air particles and opposite door closes( like drawing a syringe) Likewise, opening the door inwards, increases pressure in the room and forces (the compressed particles) outwards. This either forces the opposite door to open or rattle on the hinges and door frame if it’s closed already. Apologies for any typo. |

2. They may not go past their next opposition unless those are more wasteful, purposeless, individualistic and tactless than these boys I think you’ve all underestimated their group opponents. The Eaglets have played against well structured and tactically sound teams in Hungary, Ecuador and Australia. Eaglets have been saved by their energy, high work rate and aggression. Their strengths just didn’t yield the required result today. If their shots had been a bit more accurate, they would’ve put a lots goals past the Aussie keeper. I am more interested in the number of boys that will transition to the Flying Eagles and hopelly the Super Eagles rather than the trophy. |
