So far so goo, Metserchaker (how da heaven do you spell it?) has settled-in very well.

As for RVP, l still think that as long as we make him our "Top- Striker", we would continue to live-dangerously!

He is very good as a support-striker, like he used to do in those good days when Arsenal was replete with quality players (he was never even a first choice in those days!) but as the main striker, his delivery rate is very poor.

In matches where the team will get say just two chances, an all-out striker/finisher like our own Eduardo (in Russia now) will tidy-up both chances!
RVP needs to waste at least three to four chances before he can put one behind the net.

Wasteful striker, thats what we call him. wink

Meanwhile, his talent is never in doubt.

Some of these "Old Fools" act as if they KNOW TOMORROW!

What if he himself is not even around for the "Welcome Party"?

Some of these people are a big disgrace to the Yoruba Heritage.

Wisdom is what we expect from "Elders" but Gangsterism and Perfidy is what we get from the likes of OBJ, Bode George, OGD, Fayose, e.t.c!

The PDP itself is nothing but an "Association of Evil doers" who constantly "estrange for selfish" reasons and "unite" when its suits their selfish purpose.

Until we can fashion-out a better alternative (Jerry Rawlings style), people like OBJ would continue to strut-around like they still have some shelf-value!

Love itself, is a thing of the "Heart" and very very unpredictable!

I would actually say "Unscientific"! wink

"Fear" does not command respect, it may command "obedience" as long as that "source of fearful power exists"
(nothing in life is permanent!, not even Power!!) but will as quickly as evaporate once that source diminishes or disappears!

Love on the other hand, commands "willful submission", which outlasts any ephemeral power.

BTW: God forbid, if you exercise "fear" in a relationship and then due to illness, Paralysis occur! to the wielder of such Power/fear.

Romance › Re: Should A Man Help Out His Wife/Girl-Friend In The Kitchen? by lastpage: 11:48pm On Sep 05, 2011
Growing-up, in my own family, the rule was that "every child must know how to cook", it does not matter what your sex is! grin
Thus cooking was second-nature to us.
I also somehow, took to cooking probably because l am a very detailed person by nature.

I cook tasty meals and got saddled with (as official cook) cooking for the whole family at around 14 or 15yrs of age! sad sad

During my courtship years, my G.friend (spouse now) particularly loves it when she comes-in on one of those "weekend moves" and l have a pot of Vegetable stew (with all sorts of condiments like smoked Shrimps, dried fish (shaawa)) to boot, warm and ready. smiley
Just try my Yam porridge, walahi you go for in-love! grin
So, coming on weekends was for her, like going on honeymoon (kind of advance, pre-honeymoon!) kiss kiss

I hate flies (or l have a phobia for flies) thus, dirty dishes is very rare in our house.
"Eat and wash immediately" is the norm. Everybody washes their plates immediately. (at least we always have running water)

So, helping out strutting my balls around in the kitchen is always a joy for me.
grin wink

I remember when my wifey was hospitalized for like a month after child-birth and she does not like the "Oyinbo hospital food" they serve.
I was preparing dishes of different types and taking it down every morning and evening, so much so the Doctors became awed and discharged her earlier! They said they are sure she will make the remaining convalescence better from home!

Confession: (in whispers) I actually enjoy cooking from an early age lipsrsealed

All my children, as of today, are brought up in the same tradition: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO PREPARE YOUR OWN MEALS IN THE KITCHEN!

I think Women should ensure they carry their children along in the kitchen, especially their male children!
Charity begins at home.

Okay, l understand some women hate men that can cook really sumptuous meals (they would easily notice if the wife cooks crap and such men cant be punished with hunger, as when necessary! wink ) but in the long run, its a good thing.

The only way it would cause trouble is if my spouse "takes it for granted" or starts making it a "requirement or responsibility" and therefore feels entitled to it!

I will simply ban myself from the kitchen until she knows that its NOT HER RIGHT but my discretion!

DONT ASK, DONT TELL! Shikenna.

There are loads of places to "REPORT" the thieving officials to!

Let people begin to use hidden cameras (from phones, keyfobs, pens, e.t.c.) to record these people (with their names and tags) - policemen, customs and immigration officials - and post their disgraceful acts on the internet (e.g. YouTube) if the local stations are too timid to air them.

Let's name and shame them!
You can post the Video/Audios here on Nairaland
OR on Youtube

OR SaharaReporters

OR Nigerian Village Square

OR FaceBook

OR TWITTER

OR Foreign TV Stations (Aljazeera, Press TV, BBC, CNN, e.t.c)

OR several "private Blogs"!

The effect may not be immediate but with time, it builds critical Mass and Momentum!

The only weapon we have against them is to "Expose and Shame" them publicly.

Who knows, with time, such "exposee" might form the basis of a criminal investigation or dismissal, at least! wink

@Sarcastic:
First, you have to understand that this is a very public forum and as such, you would get nay sort of advice/insult/yabis, e.t.c, especially since such replies are "anonymous"! Do some sifting and take that which you fancy as useful. wink

I did take your response of 5:20am into consideration.
I am surprised that your wife did not make any effort at reconciliation (l hate to believe she is just not interested in the marriage anymore!).
Men can do 'shakara' a bit but deep down, they are waiting for the woman to show some recompense and they come running back like "little Mummy's boy! grin
I have actually seen that in your statement (that you're expecting to forgive her only if she could just show some remorse!)

Now, l would say "dont rush" into divorce straight-away. Watch how things unfold for now.

The one year separation is for you to clear your head and garner your feelings.
I am hoping your wife would realize that the window of opportunity is closing real fast.
Some women are arrogant and saying sorry/apologizing seems like its beneath them.
Am also shocked that she has gone to the Registry already! Its not a good sign at all.

Well, if you "misbehave" and you dont have someone "you respect" to bring you back to your senses, l guess all hope could be lost!
Her Dad needs to think whether its worth it to encourage her daughter this way.
"Good elders" (assuming he really did behave the way you said, l am giving him a lot of slack here!) always try to bring about amicable settlements of marital issues, NOT pour more fuel into the fire!

Am happy at your stance concerning your kids, too many men are being wrongly labelled "walk-away" Dads, these days. Do everything for them.

Thank your stars you're not resident "abroad" otherwise, you will be the one that will be thrown out of your house, you will beg to see your kids and upon it, you will be forced to pay "punitive rate" of child-support! For daring to challenge your wife! huh

Remember to allow the children 'full access' to their Mother, no one else can be their Mum.
Dont even talk her down in their presence.
When they mature and start asking questions, only then should you let them know why it went this way. Start documenting issues henceforth.

All said, l am still hoping your wife would realize her folly and retrace her steps.
Be willing to forgive EVERY GENUINE request for forgiveness and remorse, we also offend God, mind you!
wink

By now, you've got enough "advice and insults".
Walk away from this thread. Its beginning to outlive its usefulness, believe me.

May god guide and give you wisdom henceforth.

Politics › Re: Governors Assemble Legal Team To Challenge Sovereign Wealth Fund by lastpage: 4:11pm On Sep 04, 2011
@Gbawe
The point is that more money should be going to the States. It does not really matter what the Governors have done or not done with previous allocations because we are in a representative democracy not a dictatorship where the FG can act autocratically towards a State (as OBJ used to do) rather than view States as partners in development. You should not be asking the Federal Government to withold State allocation or take on the role of school teacher punishing pupil.
I beg to disagree with you on certain statements from the above!

First, l agree with you in totality that
*the Fed Govt should not be a dictator
*We are in a representative democracy with three "independent arms" who are partners to each other.
*One tier of govt should not super-impose itself on others, unnecessarily.

Having said the above, let me also add "Governance" either at Federal, State or Local Govt level SHOULD BE IN THE INTEREST OF THE CITIZENS.

If that is the case, the Federal Govt, being the custodian of the "federal Purse" called federation Account, has the responsibility to ensure that our national resources are not just "given-out and stolen at will", at any level of Govt.

In most cases, if something fails (Security, Roads, Schools, Power, Water, e.t.c), l do recall that the buck STOPS AT THE PRESIDENT's TABLE!
He is held "collectively responsible" for these failures even when it is glaring that some of the responsibilities for such failures, RESTS with another tier of government!

In the light of the above, l  am of the humble opinion that, like in a "family setting", the Father (Fed Govt) owes a "duty of care" to the Wife (states) even when she is working and earns income, and to the children (Local Govt) of that family.
If that family fails, it is not the kids or wife that failed, it is the Father, if you get my simplistic analogy!

My "wonderment" again is that "what is wrong with having a SWF (savings) if the intention is noble?
*If the intention is to create a fund from which capital projects like Power stations and refineries, can be built?
*If these projects are executed by the Federal govt, is it not for the benefit of the citizens?

Is it not the same Govt that these Governors run to, when they run into financial trouble or when confronted with projects that incur heavy amounts? For example, LASG is running to the President during the recent ecological and natural disasters it experienced!
Ws it not the Federal Govt that "solved" the Ocean encroachment problem at Bar-Beach, after many years when the state seems helpless?

LASG is expecting the Federal govt to partner with it to build the 4th Mainland bridge, something it can not and will never be able to do on its own!
Look at the 2nd Niger Bridge, why is the state Govt not building it on its own?

In essence, l am saying we cannot completely "financially dissect and disconnect" the three tiers of Govt, from each  other.

They should have a common sense of purpose; The Caveat being that the federal govt is not just trying to create a huge "pool of money" for itself so that it can steal larger sums, at its own whim and caprice!

Would you rather we have this "share-share mentality" where resources are just "tabled and shared", only to  be looted and siphoned-off by the various heads of the three tiers of government?

Look at our "local street roads" in Lagos for example.
Fashola has tried on the state roads but all you still hear, when people complain about the roads that lead to their houses (which are in extremely in terrible states) is: What is Fashola doing sef!
But in truth, these roads are the responsibility of the Local Government!

With all the increased allocations to the Local govts, why have they not been up and doing on these 'street roads'?
All they do is siphon the little left of their "tier allocations", into foreign accounts and buy houses overseas (That is after the Mafioso-General, Bola Tinubu, has removed his "sizeable cut"! wink )

Under such scenario, when and how do you think this country will develop?

Except there is a mechanism for monitoring how these huge sums are spent and spent judiciously, we should have observed that a "centralized system of accounting" (as obtainable in military rule, of which l am in no way advocating), seems to provide a faster rate of infrastructural development!)

In terms of "structural development,", as bad as the "military years" are, it is very unfortunate and ironic that most of the structures we enjoy today were put in place under them! Almost all the bridges in Lagos, Abuja FCT, Airports, Power stations, just name it!
No wonder IBB can still raise his head and thump his chest! Ditto OBJ too! angry

What then are the gains of this democracy sef?
Bombings? Riots? Kidnappings?

Cheers,

What is wrong, is wrong!
For any spouse (man or woman) to be sending suggestive bedroom pictures to an ex-lover, is disrespectful to the institution of marriage itself!
What morals would you then teach your children in future or are we surprised at this "internet promiscuity" that seems to be in vogue now?

Whether a man "physically" lies and penetrates you in person or you say so much romantic things over FBook/Skype/YahooMessenger, e.t.c, it is no secret that you can achieve the same "intimate gratification" or Org.asm!
It is infidelity, SIMPLES!

My problem is that women dont generally cheat as much as men.
Men see it as a game or adventure (and do it a lot) but dont invest their emotions in it (and would stop it easily if they decide to do so).

Women on the other hand, dont rush into cheating but "if and when they do", it is seriously emotionally involved and very difficult, if not impossible to stop! The problem is even made worse because your wife has not become remorseful, sorry and therefore on her way to seeking forgiveness and redemption.
O'dikwa dangerous right now!

If she sees her folly, feels truly sorry, pleads to be forgiven and promise to be faithful, PLEASE FORGIVE HER (l know its very difficult, you will always remember this period, for the rest of your life) if you forgive her, encourage that you both pray TOGETHER, hopefully, the spiritual bonding will cleanse your own spirit while making her resolve to be faithful, much more stronger.

Any other thing apart from this, please seek "an amicable divorce". Make sure you go through it COMPLETELY/LEGALLY, no half-measures.
Dont wish her bad or hurt her in anyway. Dont get violent either.

Its her choice, she has chosen, let her take responsibility for her choice.
Be completely responsible for your kids and move-on with your life.

People make mistakes in the choice of a life partner, just like we make mistakes in the choice of buying a car! Shyte happens!

Okay, whats NEXT?
Whats she gonna do?

I will suggest you "formerly write her" stating that you want to deposit the sum of #Bleep being cost of rent for your apartment for the next SIX MONTHS, into her nominated account. You can serve her a copy by hand but also send one by registered Mail (proof of receipt).

If she refuses to "respond" to your request, you can go to the nearest court and request to make the payments to the court, FOR THE BENEFIT OF YOUR LANDLORD/LADY. You would (MUST) be issued an official receipt.

Inform her that she can collect her money from the court (You can oblige her a copy of the receipt!)

Relax and Enjoy your PAID RENT
. grin grin

If she carry vex too much, what can she do NEXT?

1.) Issue you an "eviction notice": Take it and continue to enjoy you rent! wink grin

2.) After the lapse of "Quit Notice period", She should/would Charge you to court (as against taking the law into her own hands!): Provide your "proof of payment" to the court (you will be discharged of her accusation of non-payment) and you then MUST request the court to place an injunction/binding order (or whatever Lawyers would call it) that prevents her from ejecting you from the said Premises, as long as you pay your rent.

She cannot eject you out of vexation, because of the rent issue, going forward.

This is my "non-legally binding advice", giving free and without any warranty!
I know it works sha wink

Travel › Re: RAF Fighter Jet Escort Nigerian Aircraft After Radio Failure by lastpage: 11:48am On Sep 01, 2011
@OLASODE2K
The truth is that the north has utilised excellently their very long yrs of ruling nigeria to their own selfish advantage. Let me start from the army which has 4 divisions. We have one mechanised infantry in ibadan, another one infantry division in kaduna, one composite airborne and marine in the east, one armoured division in jos. They now positioned the Central Army Depot in kaduna. All these are not by mistake. All the army heavy weapons are placed in this kaduna army depot. It is a known fact only infantry cant stand any stand tanks anyday. Hence all these ackward positioning of forces. The airforce has only their logistical group in southwest based in ikeja, none in the east, but the airweapons training sch in kano and most importantly, the tactical fighter squadron in makurdi, benue state. U think all these were done out of ignorance or illiteracy? If the their have access to the sea, i can swear the naval headquarters would have u been located in sokoto. But despite all the naval commands and ships being located in the south, they still sited the naval headquarters in abuja. Can u now see that we are doomed as far as we southerners are concerned? When obj was the president, he saw the anomaly and created upgraded the lagos garrison command to a full fledged division strenght. Immediately yar adua entered, one the first things he did was to revert it back to the brigade sized strength obj met it. A division usually has 3 brigades under it. And i pity my fellow southerners who ignorantly sees the northerners as foolish ignoramuses.
YOU are the man!
YOU are blessed for laying it out so succinctly!

Like they say, "There can never be Peace, without Justice"!

How then can there be "Justice" in our Nigeria if our 'brothers up North' are already prepared for "WAR" long before we even contemplate it?
And if they are already prepared for 'WAR', how then (or why then) do they keep singing ONE NIGERIA?

Those who have ears, let them hear, NOW!

Now am thinking, OBJ despite all his flaws, IS NOT SOO BAD!

My own fear is that were the situation to be reversed, we would have been in a much trickier situation. Nigeria has only 6 fighter aircraft that can intercept foreign, hostile and unidentified aircraft. Unfortunately, they are ALL (sic) stationed in makurdi, close to a thousand kilometers away. I am at a loss of how our airforce can intercept a foreign &hostile aircraft that might sneak on lagos from the atlantic ocean? ,.,., Our security is worse than we have always imagined.

Lastpage, you should know despite the fact that God was friends to Abraham, David and Solomon, they still suffered for their sins, your being a christain has a lot to do with morals (though not everybody understands that), What is wrong is wrong, no way to beautify it.
Thank you ronkefb.
I was not about whether Abraham and the rest suffered for their sins, l was about why God will still have anything to do with them at all, while HE knew they are living polygamous lifestyle!
I am just trying to understand why God could do that, judging by the amount of venom that even we mortals heap on such people?

Am thinking in my coconut head: If God can befriend them (to the extent that we know), why should l, ordinary human, detest them?
To me, it just dont add-up at all (this not an endorsement of polygamy all the same! l think it is something personal and individualistic.)

Again, the "suffering" that you referred to above, is there a way we can "isolate it and categorically say" that they were being punished "just for being polygamous" and not for "other sins" that they commit?
I do agree with you that Christianity has a lot to do with morals but the big quagmire is that "morality" itself is very "relative" and depends on so many things like "environment, culture, norms, e.t.c."

Pls, if you find my post too long for your attention, kindly ignore it at this point, dont start complaining as that is how l write! grin

I also hope we can all be decent in a public discourse like this?

No need to insult ourselves naaah, just because we think "our advice" is the best and MUST be accepted by the Op! Goosh!!

Remember, the Op came here voluntarily, why is it then that some peeps here are "doubting her statements"?, she has nothing to prove to anybody!
Lets take her word on "face-value" instead of insinuating she is a liar.

So far, the best answer (in my own opinion) is that given by "dayokanu"! SPEAK WITH HIS WIFE! wink

In all these, the only place l would have a problem (and that seems to be your  concern too) IS THE FEELINGS OF HIS WIFE IN NIGERIA.

According to you laura-fr, your lover "said" his Nigerian wife would understand! That sounds like an"assumption", right?
That is the greatest headache you would/could have in the whole scenario.

Lets take him for his word, for now.
Ask him to categorically "speak with his wife" about his intentions".
If he comes around and still insists his wife is cool about it, ask him to let you double-confirm from her, by speaking with her.

If she then says she doesn't mind (not likely for a Nigerian woman wink ), then yours would be one of those 'large families made in heaven".

At that point, like any "contract" once "all the parties are in agreement", matured to decide and are aware of all the necessary information needed to make an informed decision, that contract would pass the stress-test.

Follow your heart at that point.
Anything apart from the above, l will not advise you to overlook "issues".

Generally speaking, your being a christian has NOTHING to do with this.
Some have tried to use "your Christianity" to condemn polygamy but l bet that none of these people or you yourself, can be more 'christianly' than Abraham (God called him Father of faith), David (God called him Apple of his eye), King Solomon (the only Landlord God ever had, the only one who ever built a house that God actually resided in!) and ALL THESE GUYS ARE POLYGAMOUS YET IT DID NOT STOP GOD FROM RELATING WITH THEM DIRECTLY!
Let us give that a thought for a second and ask ourselves: Should l insult God as well as l insult those who are NOT AGAINST POLYGAMY on this thread? Why not, if that insult is well deserved?

So, if God himself did not count such polygamist unworthy of his friendship, what manner of hypocrisy or "holier than thou attitude" is making us condemn polygamy ON RELIGIOUS GROUNDS? Am jut wondering aloud o! huh

Again, l want to note that "as humans, we all have diverse interest and risk-averseness".
For the fact that "Madam A" cannot tolerate polygamy (am not advocating it, l am just doing an academic discourse on the issue, nothing personal!), does it mean that Madam B must/cannot not tolerate it or that makes it evil?
I think it all boils down to individual threshold.

As the Op has said repeatedly, The man is naturalized (Paper was not the question).
*He has a viable business (He is not after her money and the reverse is not the case as he is reported to be willingly assisting her financially and would probably be able to afford two wives!)
*If he decides to relocate to Nigeria, she said she is willing to follow him down (Issue of abandoned baby Momma does not arise, in that case!)

Basically, it is "human nature" to want to keep "your property" exclusively to yourself only (otherwise, poverty will not be so rampant while others live in opulence, its called capitalism) but the problem here is that "human feelings" defer a lot, when th eissue at stake is not some "lifeless commodities/properties" like clothes, money, car, e.t.c

In most cases of "relationships", our decisions are governed by how we feel at any point in time.

As such, l have a very strong feeling that "Polygamy" in itself, is no less evil (if it were), than "Serial Monogamy" as practiced by the same Christians! (where you can marry as many women/men as you like, just by picking them and dropping them at will, through serial, multiple divorces!).

For some people, (especially women), the idea of "my husband/wife, my property" will be utopian simply because though they married as "single", there is no guarantee that s/he would not cheat, that he would not marry a second wife, that s/he would not do the 'honorable form of polygamy' by divorcing and re-marrying!
Thus, NO GUARANTEES anywhere! We can only hope it does not happen to us but if it does, life will still go on.

Am happy the Op has been able to come to a decision that puts her mind at rest.

Properties › Re: Collect More Than 6 Months’ Rent, Go To Jail, Fashola Tells Landlords by lastpage: 11:36pm On Aug 30, 2011
^^^That is exactly where l find these "Housing Statutes" hypocritical!
In the Western world that we seek to emulate, juts try and owe your landlord one month rent and see wetin go happen! shocked wink

First, he will use your "deposit" to defray the immediate/current month's debt while the "District court" is ready to seat on a SUNDAY, to grant him the "right of re-possession" of his property.

They would ensure that you dont put the landlord's mortgage repayment in jeopardy!
That is what l call responsible and balanced governance, not this "playing to the gallery" stuff of Fashola!

We must also put it into context that such foreign/Western governments also have "Social Housing" schemes for their citizens!
Now, that is what l call caring and responsive governance, not one that destroys the Akara-sellers kiosk, not caring whether she eats or die!

Our political leaders are just too wicked and selfish, at times clueless, for my liking! Yet we are so-blessed as a country? huh

Just to build "Room and Parlour" full ground for low income earners @reasonable rates, is impossible for Fashola but he can enact law on what private individuals labored to build?

Something is wrong somewhere, with our erstwhile "fine Governor"

From comments i get, most people "appreciate" the details in my epistle!

But Must you read my "epistles"? Na by force huh

That you have an "attention-span" problem, coupled with a "comprehension deficit" is NOT MY FAULT! wink
Its probably due to not "reading story books" from an early age! grin grin
Please address your own "issues" at least.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------ADMONITION TIME----------------------------------------------

Well, "You have found a husband, it shows the Lord is happy with you!
Something about "No weapon fashioned against you shall prosper" because "Curse without reason shall not Prevail.

They curse, they raved and ranted! They spewed trash and threatened "fire and brimstone"!
They planned and conspired but like its said in the Good books, "The Lord scattered them like Chaff before the wind"!
After all, one with God is more than a million!

HE who brought confusion into their midst during the building of the Tower of Babel,
HE who turned the "Wisdom of Ahitopel" into foolishness,
HE who can say YES and No man can say NO,
has done "a Good thing" and its marvelous in our eyes.

I dont know you but by the amount of venom you had received from "known and unknown" enemies, it is clear that "Whom the Lord had bless, no man can destroy"!

I feel you dear, l really do!

Now, if you ever read these threads one day, hear this:
Love your husband with all your heart!
Respect him, honor him with all your being.
Trying periods will come for sure, its like that in all marriages.
Just remember this day, Remember what both of you went through, to "make it happen".

It will be well with you. Am really happy for you.
HAPPY MARRIED LIFE TO THE LATEST COUPLE.!

Thanx to all her "Well-wishers" and all her "UNwell-wishers" shocked grin
