Politics › Re: US Warship Leaves For Nigeria Today - Tribune by lastpage: 2:49am On Nov 22, 2011
I think that "Cutter Warship" should be sent to Aba (Anambra) and let the Igbo-boys take it apart, bolt-by-bolt, in one years time, we should be exporting our own "copy of the Cutter" to places like Ghana, Cameroun, Togo, e.t.c! grin grin

On a serious note, it seems Nigeria is going the "Pakistani way".
U.S used to be the main "military Aid" provider to Pakistan.
When the U.S needs to o something nasty, it will then "issue instructions" to the Pakistani Army to do it!

Nowadays, U.S has that army under pressure by threatening to cut-off the "sweet AID" that the Pakistani army is so used to, if it dares challneges it on the infringement of its air-space and sovereignty. They regularly engage in sorties, into Pakistani territory (a Nuclear Country!) with so much impunity, killing innocent Pakistani citizens and yet, the Pakistani seems POWERLESS to do anything! WHY IS THIS?

I have heard Pakistani government and its parliament complain bitterly each time a US Drone kills innocent Pakistanis (collateral damage) and l keep wondering, can it be so bad that a Nuclear-Power country canteven defend its territory and citizens, on its homeland?

Well, we should beware of geting addicted to this "Free Gifts" cos no sooner than later, IT WILL BE PAY-BACK TIME!

Yes, we dont produce one.
But we dont need one now (and if we do, we can buy it and pay instalmentally, since they dont get delivered immediately you pay, its to "order".).

Like someone said, we should get our priorities right.
Why dont they give us an Electricity generating Plant from General Electrics (G.E)?
Why dont they part-finance a new Refinery with us?
Why dont they agree to fund the training of 3,000 Engineers from Nigeria, in an American establishment?
Why dont they give us the "blueprint" for some Army Trucks or some of their patented Agricultural Products?
How about supplying us with 10,000 Farm tractors?
How about supplying our Universities with a million Laptops or equipping our Laboratories IF THEY REALLY WANT TO BE GENEROUS TO US?

So, its a 43 yrs old Uncle of a Coast Guard Boat that is most precious to GEJ's government? huh huh

God dey, e dey above, e dey watch us and e dey watch you too, Uncle GEJ! wink angry cry
Sports › Re: Mikel Obi Starts For Chelsea But Turned Down Super Eagles Call by lastpage: 2:12am On Nov 22, 2011
There are "so many sides" to Nigeria's dwindling fortunes in football.
Its not just Mikel alone, though i think he is past is "sell-by-date". He is one player that showed so much promise and delivered so little.
Infact, l still wonder if its the same Mikel of 2005! Look at Messi, look at Fabregas? What happened to our own "big man"? Arrogance? huh

Having said that, l will state here that just like Berti Voghts, LagerBack, Siaisia, Amodu, e.t.c, EVERY EAGLES COACH, INCLUDING KESHI, WILL FAIL!

As long as the Football Association is still occupied by that Mafia whose sole interest is how to make money and line their personal pockets!

We are only running after Mikel simply because we lack other promising players to readily replace him, even as poor as his performance is!

In days gone by, right from Primary School, we organized competitions, in Secondary School, we had the PRINCIPAL'S CUP and it produced a lot of stars for the National Team.

We had the NUGA (Nigerian University Games), we had the NIPOGA (Polytechnic version) and it produced the likes of Iphowonsa Omoregie, Adeolu Adekola, Aloy Agu, e.t.c. Gone are the days when every "long Holiday" was a football fiesta, so much so that foreign-based players troop home to come and play "Street competition football"!

Go to Ajegunle, Evans Square, White Sand, CMS in Bariga, Iwaya, Ojo Playing Ground, Ikorodu College grounds, e.t.c, places that were once bubbling with "football competition", its either empty, converted for Owambe parties or built-up with shops!

You cant expect "miracles" when all you depend on, are foreign-based players!

We have to develop football from the grass-roots (like the Brits do with their Academies).
We have to go back to basis and ORGANIZE football from the Bottom-Up.

Nigeria is gifted but we lack good administrators. What we have are selfish crooks and criminals, running football.

Just watch Stephen Keshi in two years time! grin grin

Like someone said, and l agree in totality, LETS SEPARATE THE PERSONALITY OF JONATHAN GOODLUCK, FROM HIS OFFICE AS NIGERIA'S PRESIDENT.

We cannot continue to openly denigrate that esteemed office (even if the occupier(s) have done and deserve worse!).

Let us get our points/anger/opinion across without using foul language on the President (not because we fancy him one bit angry ) but because he, unfortunately/fortunately occupies an office that deserves our respect.

That "Office of the President of Nigeria" is "ours", it represents us as a NATION, he (Jonathan) is just the "current custodian".

Calling him names like "Retardeen, Odechukwu, dofus, e.t.c" does not augur well for our Nation at large.

Its not a bad idea if we decide not to wash our dirty linen publicly.

I understand peeps anger and frustration (and l am not left out too! angry huh )
but l beg everyone to P-L-E-A-S-E EXERCISE A LITTLE SELF CONTROL.

Pass the "message across" but do it civily.
Please, biiko, ejoo, Nnazua

WE ALL SAY A "BIG NO', to any extra financial burden on the suffering masses. We must fight this battle and we must not allow ourselves to be turned to slaves, in our own country, by some faceless, opportunistic CABAL!
Politics › Re: Nigeria Will Crash If Fuel Subsidy Stays – GEJ by lastpage: 2:08am On Nov 21, 2011
@evil brain
After he loses this subsidy battle, Jonathan will have practically no credibility left. He's already lost the respect of the national assembly and all well-informed Nigerians and things will only get worse for him. Even those who still like him have to admit that he's a little bit daft.
Hmmmm, l am also getting baffled by the day!

I honestly did vote GEJ in the Presidentials thinking as a PhD holder, his education and exposure will stand us in good stead.
My thinking was that for once, lets have well educated people who can articulate our problems very well, as a preclude to devising sustainable solutions to them.
I also felt that having lectured before, he would be aware of the problems of "those who teach others" and hence will be more conversant with the problems of "the common man" in general.
javascript:void(0);
As crude as it may sound, just as Fashola was my main target in the "Governorship elections" (l dont give a hoot about that mafia, self-imposing association called ACN), GEJ was also my target in the Presidential elections (l would still have voted for him if he went to some Labour Party or Nut-case party, as against "People Deceiving Populace" of a PDP. Infact, we sincerely lack true democratic parties at present, what we have are just some opportunistic money bags controlling the affairs of the country)

With power of hind-sight and the events of the last few months, l am beginning to think l made a colossal mistake in my choice!

Not that their were much to chose from (a kind of choice between the Devil and the Deep blue Sea! shocked angry  ) but l is beyond my understanding that GEJ will repay us in this way!
If OBJ increased the pump-price of fuel, seven times in his eight years in office and NIGERIA DID NOT CRASH (the only thing that happened was that each time, they had more "savings" to loot from, at the expense of the masses, !)

,,,and l can cut the Otta-Farmer, some slack!
His was a case of an illiterate leading educated people. His no different from Abacha, crass-illiterates that came to power through the barrel of a gun and then consolidated more power, by some "mafia-transformation", into a "civilian leader"!

But l cant say the same of GEJ!
Never a Coup plotter, from a humble beginning (no shoes! shocked ), well educated, elevated by "fate" beyond his and anyone's imagination, consolidated by providence, e.t.c and yet his rationalizations are no better, if not worse than that of OBJ and Abacha rolled into one!

OBJ was very crude but he was not that kind of "siddon-look" President that Nigeria does not need! He acted decisively, to the best of his ability (though that was mostly below expectation of a President!)

Abacha was perpetually STONED, day and night but even in his brutality, he did not impose this type of unjust punishment on poor Nigerians, at least not in the "sparingly few" moments that he was "in the Present"! shocked

Even IBB that "dribbled everyone" for almost nine years, still did not dispense of friends and acquire foes, at the rate GEJ is doing!
His was a case of "Carrot and Stick", "Chop small while l Chop the rest" but even in that, he was still "A Genius" at doing what he knows best: EVIL! shocked

GEJ is neither Here, nor There!

Whenever l make a mistake, l will readily admit it and correct my ways: ON THIS ONE, I GOOFED, BIG TIME! cry wink

No one has the right to keep pushing us to the brink.
There are so many countries without a drop of Crude Oil, those countries HAVE NOT CRASHED, the people buy and pay for PMS at reasonable "market Price", not some "mafia-dictated price".

GEJ and his Cabinet cannot make Crude-Oil, a God-given blessing, a curse on Nigerians!

Infact, we say NO TO ANY PUMP-PRICE INCREASE UNTIL ALL THE SAVINGS OF THE FORMER INCREASES ARE JUSTIFIED AND ACCOUNTED FOR.

Or those who looted them and defeat the purpose of the increase and tried for economic sabotage, jailed or shot at Bar-Beach (like in the good old days of General Muritala)

@Peruso
FIRSTLY I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT I COMMENT CUZ THIS STORY HAS BEEN CONFIRMED ,NOT JUST THAT ITS COMING FROM SAHARA REPORTERS; I WATCHED SYLVA'S CAMPAING ON TV AND I HAD SOME BACK AND FORTH COMMUNICATION AS A CONFIRMATION OF WHATS IS HAPPENING ON GROUND BAYELSA FROM SOME REALIABLE PPLE. THE GOVERNOR IS BEING SUPPORTED BY 1.THE THREE SENATORS FROM THE STATE 2.THE FOUR REPS MEMBERS FROM THE STATE(OUT OF FIVE) 3. THE 24 MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY 4. THE 8 LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMEN IN THE STATE 5. THE 105 COUNCILORS . THE IYC WHICH IS THE MAIN ENGINE OF YOUTHS IN THE STATE. THE INC, AS WELL AS THE WELL RESPECTED PROF KIMSE OKOKO AND COUNTLESS OTHERS. YET SOMEONE WANTS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THIS GUY IS NOT POPULAR IN HIS HOME STATE

I HEARED YOUTHS CAME OUT FROM EVERYWHERE IN THE THE STATE THAT DAY AS A SHOW OF ANGER TOWARDS WHAT IS BEING DONE TO THIS MAN. YET I AM SUPPOSED TO BELIEVE THIS MAN DID nothing IN HIS STATE (smh) PPLE PLS THINK AND THINK REAL HARD.

I THINK SOME FORCES IN ABUJA WANTS TO GET RID OF THIS GUY NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES EVEN IF IT IS THRU AN ILLEGAL MEANS. AND EVERY FINGER POINTS TO OUR PRESIDENT. I AM TRUELLY DISSAPOINTED IN THIS PRESIDENT OF OURS. HE HAVE NIGERIA TO LEAD AT THIS TIME OF COMPLETE INSECURITY IN THE LAND YET HE CHOSES TO THROW A POPULARITY BOUT WITH HIS STATE GOV FOR SELFISH REASONS.
A PRESIDENT THAT PRIDES HIMSELF UNDER THE CLOAK OF HUMILITY I THINK ITS HIGH TIME NIGERIANS WILL KNW THIS PRESIDENT FOR WHO HE TRUELY IS. AND I'M SURE HE WILL LOOSE IN THIS SHOW OF SHAME IN HIS HOME STATE,

NIGERIANS!!!!!! LETS THINK HARD!!!!
Thank You for providing an "alternative view" on this issue. Like l always believe, There is always two-sides to a coin!

Having said that, l will please like to ask you a few questions for clarification:

a)These important players (As highlighted in your post) who support the Governor, ON WHAT GROUNDS IS THESE SUPPORT BASED?
*Are they financially induced?
*Are they as a result of self-preservation so that they can also return unopposed?
*Are the support based on the Governor's performance, which can be seen on ground in terms of good roads, good health care system, portable water, standard education, develop(ing)ed transport system, regular payment of civil servants salary, e.t.c?

b) As a Nigerian citizen, what would be your own reaction / action if YOU WERE THE PRESIDENT today and the governor of your state HAS ALWAYS WORKED AGAINST your own interest (He provided funds to thwart GEJ's "constitutional right" to succeed Yar Adua, as the latter's V.P, during his illness, he worked hard against his winning the last Presidential election, yet they belong to the same state and the same party!)

c) Finally, what would YOU DO, if a Governor OPENLY THREATENED YOUR LIFE AND THAT OF YOUR FAMILY? Mind you, Sylvia is just another ordinary road-side person, without the "powers of Office of the Governor"!)

Will you receive him with kids gloves and flowers or pay him back in his own coin?
Or did they not say "a man would reap whatever he soweth"?
Keep it honest please.

Though, l must add that the PDP-NWC did not say why he and three others were barred, at least not yet, we are only assuming his anti-party/Jonathan activities could be responsible.

I am not sure what the NWC of PDP had in mind when they barred those four people, including Governor Sylvia but it would sure have made more sense and good moral standing if they have supported their banning order WITH CLEAR AND CONCISE REASONS!

That way, we would be sure that they acted fairly and in the interest of the masses!

And not just the interest of some "Power Broker" or even / maybe they just wanted a "Paper Weight" for Governor, so they can manipulate him afterwards!

Having said that, l think Governor Sylvia should not loose sleep over the ban!

IF HE WAS A GOOD GOVERNOR, THE PEOPLE HE RULED FOR FIVE YEARS WILL SIMPLY FOLLOW HIM TO ANOTHER PARTY AND HE WOULD TROUNCE THE PDP TICKET HOLDER! Yes, it should become a loss for PDP!

But the big question of that IF up there is raising alarm bells in my head! No wonder the paddy was willing to commit TREASONABLE FELONY (threatening a sitting President and his family!), just to get the PDP Ticket! shocked shocked grin grin wink huh

I hope he and his types learn a lesson from this: Serve "the People" and "the People" will serve you in your own day of trouble!

Just my take.

^^^^I understand your position and that of Jmaine, above.

But the point l am also making is that "Are we to just fold our arms and give-up" against these dare-devils?
What they are doing is wrong and evil thus, Civilized People must do everything Possible to counter them.

For example, in other climes, they are willing to sacrifice a whole squad of law enforcers, just to capture a single criminal that shoots a Police officer!
Its just to get "the message across" that their is a line YOU CANT CROSS!

Jazz or no Jazz, can these robbers stand the MET Police or the Rapid Response Unit of some of these foreign countries?
Lets think out of the box and ask ourselves: What is the difference between these other Police, such that they can and would bring down any criminal (even one with the best Nigerian-made Jazz! grin ) that tries to make life impossible for others?

Is it Weaponry? Training? Motivation, or are we just wallowing in "FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN"?

For example, why should the Soldiers at Ann Barracks (as stated up there), keep mewt, knowing that Robbers are terrorizing the area and the Police are (as always) useless helpless?
Are they not part of the state or dont we pay their salaries? Cant they just respond for a few minutes and get the hell back inside their barracks? Are they a slave to the law or are they just plain, lazy shyte-heads that rejoice in seeing civilians being punished? Which war have they fought in the last 20yrs of earning salary? If it is to kill "un-armed, protesting students" now, you will see them in combat gear like it is the 3rd Gulf War! angry angry

Make l no vex, walahi! angry shocked

The truth is that we can either give-up and let the Robbers rule our lives (in which case, everyone is entitled to self-defense or the 'join them if you cant beat them syndrome'!)
or we can all come together and devise ways and means of tackling this menace of "Organized 50-man squad of robbers"! shocked

If robbers can organize and band together, to be more potent, why cant we?
Why cant government seek the support of OPC and other "traditional methods" (not the criminal ones amongst them), if it is the "Jazz part" that is scaring our Police?
Serious problem demand unconventional solutions, if you ask me!

I feel sad that a young man who has struggled all his life to be a Lawyer, is shot down like a chicken, just for no good reason! Imagine what the parents are feeling right now?
And the culprits will be somewhere, free and enjoying the stolen loot!

I dey vex big time! angry
Christianity Etc › Re: Woman Dies After 21 Days Dry Fasting by lastpage: 7:10pm On Nov 12, 2011
If your dry fasting is going beyond 3 days, it is recommended that you brake with water daily, but if you have the strength you can start taking water from the 7th day.
In essence, no one should "Dry Fast" (without any form of liquid/solid food) for more than 3days?

Thus, what is all the hypocrisy about "Dry fasting" for TWENTY ONE DAYS when you are actually drinking water after the 3days? huh shocked
"Dry" should mean "grin-R-Y", no ingestion of any thing!

Why do we humans seek to "wow God" in ways he would not even demand of us?
Who are we impressing with our "21 Days Dry-fast"? God or fellow humans?

God that created us, KNOWS OUR LIMITATIONS as Humans and he knows that we cant be without any form of "ingestion", (be it liquid or solid food, be it through the mouth or by intravenous injection) for more than 3days!

GOD says EVEN BEFORE YOU SAY IT, I ALREADY KNOW!

Its like "The Widows Mite", its not how long you fast that matters, but how sincerely you do it and how pure your heart was, when you start it (Remember He asked us to go and forgive our enemies first, before praying to Him so that our prayers might not be hindered?)

Lets stop being like the Pharisees, who having done their deed in Public Knowledge, Have received their Reward there and then!
God will NEVER IMPOSE HIMSELF on ANYONE!

I pray that God will change the heart of our wicked and often times, ignorant Pastors so that they can stop dishing-out this kind of Un-Biblical instructions to the fold;
and may we the "Sheep" also stop being like the "literal Sheep" that do "follow-follow" to the Slaughter Slab!

Shey the Bible is there for everyone to read, abi?
But some would not Read it and want the Pastor to be their E-Reader! grin grin

Christianity Etc › Re: Woman Dies After 21 Days Dry Fasting by lastpage: 8:07am On Nov 12, 2011
@m-nwankwo
The notion that we please God by self imposed renunciation like fasting and similar things is wrong in my perception. God wills that all his creations should bubble with life and supreme joy. Suffering is not the will of God and it is antithetical to the LOVE that is in God and that is GOD. God did not create or will suffering into his creations. In heaven, the spiritual kingdom of God where the will of God reigns, suffering is non-existent. Suffering is present only in material creations including our earth and suffering came into existence as a result of the misapplication of the power of God. Man or rather the spirit that is man has the ability to draw the power of God and use it. He can use the power of God to raise himself to luminous realms of pure joy or he can can apply the power to dig his own grave. The ascent to heaven or the decent to hell lies on how we use the power that God lent to us. Simply put, suffering is  a consequence of sin and sin is simply a misapplication of the power of God. The power of God can be likened to the power entrapped in the nucleus of an atom (crude analogy). The atomic power can be used to give millions electricity but it can also be used to produce nuclear bombs.

We suffer because of our own actions or inaction. Sin also encompasses our inability to to listen to the voice of our spirit. Many a suffering including natural disasters can be avoided if we listen to the several warnings that physically invincible servants of God impress on us. Most of us have become spiritual dense that even the severest warnings makes no impression in our day consciousness. In the course of our existence spanning several incarnations on earth and in other material planes, we have misapplied the power of God so much that the fruits of our seeds bring suffering and despair instead of radiant joy. Most people cannot see beyond the present earth-life, hence we ask such questions like "why does God allow bad things to happen to good people", why do some evil men proper? Why are children borne with hereditary diseases? Why is Africa so poor and plagued with HIV, malaria, etc? Why does God allow infectious diseases and cancers to torment his creatures? and many similar questions. It will take several books to answer these questions. The underlying point is that diseases, evil, suffering etc are simply a misapplication of the laws of God in different planes of material creations.

The laws of God are not a set of rules as many think but are the intrinsic properties that is inherent in any creature, specie, creation of God. There is nothing anybody can do to change or annul these intrinsic properties. What we can do is to understand them and use them for the purpose for which the creator designed them for. In this instance we will have a harmonious union of the radiations of God which can only result in joy, inner peace and supreme happiness. If the intrinsic properties of the powers of God are misapplied, the consequence is wrongful and destructive union of radiations that can only result in disease, suffering, evil, etc. If we eat, drink, act, talk and perceive according to the intentions of God, then suffering, diseases and evil will depart from us and this earth will then be a reflection of the spiritual kingdom of God. A healthy body does not need drugs, but an unhealthy body may require drugs to  forcibly restore it to health. In a similar vein, it is only a body that has become dense that occasionally requires fasting to restore balance. But the right endeavor should be not to allow the body to become dense in the first place. Eat and drink in moderation and only take from the table of God that which God imbued with the power to nourish our bodies. All excess with food and drink must be avoided. Even in a physical sense, if we eat and drink in moderation and nourish the body with the right mixture of food and drink, the body will become the way God designed it and many an illness will be averted. Fasting brings no spiritual benefit. It is just that in bodies that have become dense, abstinence from food for a short time will give some refinement to the body, permitting it to be more susceptible to the promptings of the spirit. Continuous abstinence will be dangerous because the weakening of the body  will also result in weakened emanation from the body making it very possible for such a physical body to be subject to alien influences. In such a state it is very easy to be demonically influenced or be subject to possession by an alien disembodied spirit. Best Wishes.
I cant help but quote this again, even though it is lengthy!
God bless you real mighty for the above.
I am sure you're NOT A PASTOR but your post reminds me of the Biblical saying that "Wisdom would be (is) found
IN THE MOUTH OD BABIES! (No Offense to your person).

I recall growing up, when l was told and read in the Bible that "a man cannot wear a woman's cloth".
So, in my naivety, l asked: WHAT EXACTLY IS A MAN"S CLOTH, knowing that my Mum's wrapper is a Ghananian man's cloth and her Skirt is a Scottish man's traditional apparel!
Well, l was given a long list of Buba and Sokoto!  grin grin
Curiously, l reasoned that God's Law are UNIVERSAL and ETERNAL without boundaries and as such,

How l wish Pastors can preach and reason like this? huh huh
I really appreciate you for that post.

While a lot of people will be "very quick" to comment negatively about this woman, as usual, l will try to see things "NOT JUST FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE ACCUSER" but also from all other perspectives that have relevance to this matter!  wink

Having said that, let me state a-priori, that l condemn "human servitude and inhuman treatment of another human".

Lets see what l mean by the first statement:

1.) The two women involved were 17 and 19yrs old.
Can anyone make a woman of 19yrs old (even 16yrs) to do whatever she does NOT want to do, using physically force?
How much more if that "physical force" is being exercised by a "42 year old woman"!

Who do you think is stronger? The 42yr old who is passed her prime or the 19yr old in the prime of her youth and energy? Just imagine a 42yr old man trying to force you to eat vomit, when you were 19yrs?
Am passed that age but l know that when l was that age, l was rippling with muscle and strength, very close to the peak of my youth, which generally occurs between 19 and 26.
Do you wonder why the best players in the world also fall within this age category (as physically demanding as football and most other sports are)? The answer is simply this: That is the prime of youth, strength, agility and all the good things we loose as we get older in life.

In essence, that part of the story is suspect. She might have been aggressive and threatening, in the usual Nigerian way (Loud-mouthed woman throwing curses here and there or even throwing one or two "shakara slaps"; the sort a 50yr old father will throw to his 25yr old son and he would not respond, out of respect otherwise, the son will simply break all his bones!)

2.) This story is very similar and mirrors that of Igbo Boys who travel to Lagos. to serve their Motor-Spare Part selling Boss.

No where were we told of "How this transfer to America was arranged
", in the story.
I am sure she did not pick them on the street.
She went to their people and l have heard stories about how such things occur. It goes thus:

Poverty stricken family wants their daughter to seek the golden fleece in America.
They meet this affluent "Tokunbo Woman" who needs a "House-help" in America so she can have adequate time for her own "Work/Business" (we all know what a Nanny/child-minder costs in Western Countries).

In a situation of "Meeting of Minds and Interests", the affluent woman bears the cost of the travel arrangements and meets the needs of this young woman and her family: She takes their ward to America (a dream that she may not have been able to realize in  a life-time) and a lot of men/women have established themselves through this means, in foreign land.

On the other hand, the woman who invested money (Tickets, Visas, Accommodation, feeding and Upkeep) on this young "Maid-to-be", expects in return, that the lady would payback in-kind, by looking after her own kids.
A promise of schooling is usual dropped as part of the deal but that may prove tricky as the "Maid" is an illegal alien, in most cases and cannot be "fully exposed" to the "American system", as someone who is legally residing in the country. Thus, it may take years for the Maid to be integrated properly into the system, for her to begin to enjoy such public facilities as a public school.

Meanwhile, like every human relationship, friction may develop.

Maybe "Madam" was expecting too much. Maybe she was getting overly aggressive. She might even be the cruel type that maltreats people. She might be the type that uses the Maid as a slave to her own children in the sense of not setting a level playing field among her children and the maid. (I have heard of women who scold Maids, even when it was their own child that was in the wrong!)

On the other hand, a Maid of 19yrs old has needs, as a fully matured woman! She could even be an undergraduate when she left Nigeria. She may develop a relationship with a guy or lover, contrary to Madam's expectation! She may become arrogant, bordering on the "What did you even do for me sef" and she may start to act out to Madam. This is how "Things Fall Apart".

In all these, BOTH PARTIES have definitely "BREACHED THEIR UNWRITTEN CODE/AGREEMENT"!

How you might ask:
a.)The Maid cannot claim ignorance of what she was going to be doing in the U.S., before leaving Nigeria.

b.)She will be lying if she claimed she was tricked to the U.S 'cos we all know that the overriding interest on her mind, was how to get to America! And she knew why Madam was ready to splash out, to take her there (Or has Madam turn to father Christmas?)
c.) She knew that she was supposed to be in servitude to Madam (Like our Ibo boys would serve Oga in Lagos Spare-Part Market for 5yrs before gaining "independence" to start their own business: Both parties, if they kept to the agreement, BENEFITS!).
d.)Madam too did not tell her family that she would be Mal-treating her in America or making her live under dehumanizing conditions.
e.)GOING TO COURT TO SORT THINGS OUT WAS NEVER PART OF THE DEAL!

3.)Finally, let me bear on the morality of Madam's actions and that of the Maid's evidence:
Madam should have been a humane person, with the fear of God, knowing that it was "economic conditions" that made the Maid, to become a maid.  She should have treated her nicely, like she would want herself or her own daughter be treated. But, hell-no, she was the typical over-lording Nigerian Madam! Foul mouthed and wicked to the core.

The Maid should have remembered when she was "begging" to be accepted by Madam, to be taken to be her house Maid (House Helper would be a fair statement). She should have remembered that she promised "heaven and hell" to be a good girl, to be loyal and always obey Madam!

But like a Nigerian adage would say, "when the sick become healed, they quickly forget about the drugs and the Doctor who prescribed them!  grin (literally translated).

In cases like this (and l still remember the story of that Nigerian man-lover-Teenager whose mother was arrested and sentenced for abduction. i remember the role played by such man-lover-NGO's and how they coached such victims to say about ANYTHING that would get them sympathy from the judge and put the accused behind bars!).

This story is no different. I am sure Madam did some terrible things to the ladies  (slapping, verbal abuse, threats) but l am also convinced she did NOT force her to eat her Vomit! I am also sure she did not prevent them from bathing, for four years! Wetin!  shocked shocked

Again, lets assume she did not allow them to bath from the shower but they have to run water into a bucket, to bath. Pray me, what is wrong with that, for them to make it sound so horrific?
I have two showers in my house right now but l still decide occasionally, to use a bucket at times. WHY? The shower takes time, especially when l need to have a good bath in a hurry.
Two big buckets of warm water will just do me fine and in less than 7mins, l am in  and out, with a good shine to my kokoro! grin shocked

In all these, l think the maids have only dramatized this issue for selfish interests (with the prodding, help and insistence of the NGO's and "Defenders" they ran to, who also gets the benefit of the "PUBLICITY" that comes with such cases).

They have by their actions (directly or indirectly) been asked to "come and eat and ended up tying the hands of the person that invited them to the table",  I consider their behavior despicable and abhorring, just like that of their Madam!

They could have simply run-away and vanished into thin air. Madam would not have the liver to arrest them or do anything negative to them, knowing fully well that her "position in law" is precarious. That is why she simply went for a second Maid, when the first one "grew wings", rather than go after her.
They simply used "the situation" to their own advantage but in a way that completely destroyed the lives of their benefactor. (thats how l see the Madam for the word go).

Let me repeat that just like a lot of 'Spare-part boys or Chemist boy" have today become successful business owners, the same way, a lot of "House Helpers" taken abroad, like these women, have gone on to become something in life, without destroying their "Masters".

Whether this is an acceptable way of behavior or course of action, in the circumstances of the case, is left for everyone to judge but l have given my own personal opinion.

Suicide mission
• Desperate man sneaks into Delta Airline plane’s tyre
compartment with the aim to be smuggled into the US, but
arrives
Atlanta as mangled dead body
By CHIOMA IGBOKWE

Saturday, April 17, 2010

The family of a Nigerian, who wanted to play James Bond and perhaps, shock the world with his plan, is currently gnashing its teeth,
as the venture has ended in tragedy.

Saturday Sun gathered that a young
Nigerian, Mr.
Emeka Okechukwu Okeke, recently wanted to do the
impossible by smuggling
himself into the United States, but ended up arriving not
only in
body bag but also as mangled body.

Impeccable sources at the Murtala Muhammed International,
Lagos,
revealed that Okeke had beaten all security at the
airport, traced
his way to the tarmac and sneaked into the tyre
compartment of a
Delta Airline’s plane scheduled to depart for Atlanta,
United
States.

It was gathered that the plane had departed Lagos, without
Okeke
being detected, and safely arrived Atlanta. Ground staff
of the
airline, in the United States, were said to have
discovered pieces
of flesh and blood smear on one of the tyres of the plane
and raised
an alarm.
A check on the plane revealed the mangled body of Okeke in
one of
the tyre compartments of the aircraft. The check also
revealed a
bag and a mobile phone on what remained of the body of the
young
man.
Saturday Sun gathered that shocked
officials of
Delta Airlines, in the US, had put on the mobile phone and
scrolled
through the numbers. To find out the identity of the man,
they were
said to have called the last number dialed and made
inquiries. The
man, who received the call, was said to have revealed that
the owner
of the phone had travelled to the United States.

Delta Airlines officials in the United States had
transferred the
case to Nigeria, where it was discovered that Okeke, who
is married,
had confided in some of his friends and relatives that he
was travelling
to the United States on the night he sneaked into the tyre
compartment
of the aircraft. His family has been contacted and its
members have
identified the corpse of Okeke.

According to our source, Okeke is from Anambra and had
tried unsuccessfully
for years to get a visa to America. Owing to desperation,
he decided
to embark on the risky venture, which eventually claimed
his life.
Although, he told his family that he was travelling to US,
he never
revealed that he was going to sneak into the tyre
compartment of
the aircraft.

According to our source, Okeke colluded with airport
officials to
gain access to the tarmac, before finding his way to the
plane in
the dark. He was said to have wrapped himself in a
blanket, not
knowing that the aircraft tyres would get to where he was
and kill
him.

Meanwhile, Delta Airline staffers, who guarded the plane
at the
airport on the day the incident happened, have been
arrested by
the police, to explain how Okeke sneaked into the tyre
compartment
of the plane.
Saturday Sun gathered that Delta Airline
has a
security policy, whereby its plane at the Murtala Muhammed
International
Airport, is guarded from the time it arrives Nigeria, in
the afternoon,
till when it departs with passengers in the night.

With such security arrangement, the airline is, therefore,
shocked
that somebody could have access to the plane undetected
and embarked
on a suicide mission, which has caused the airline a
scandal.
The police at the airport command are currently battling
to find
out how security was breached at the airport that day.

An airport official, who pleaded for anonymity, told Saturday

Sun, that many people had been smuggled out of
the country
by sneaking into aircraft.

The source said: “That route is for people who have guts
and
all efforts to leave Nigeria have failed. The man has bad
luck;
it is not his destiny to leave Nigeria. Maybe he did not
follow
the instructions given to him on how to survive under
there. This
is not the first time people are sneaking out of Nigeria
through
that means. Sometime last year a woman travelled through
that means
and arrived safely.
“If this man arrived safely, we would not be talking about

this. He was careless with his life. Now innocent staff of
the airline
are going to suffer for his mistake. Those who guarded the
plane
that night were arrested.”

The racket at the airport
The question being asked by people is, how possible is it that somebody
would gain access to the tarmac undetected, considering
the tight
security in the airport? Our source explained that such
illegal
movement is being coordinated by a syndicate at the
airport, which
also works with airlines’ workers.
It was gathered that people who need such services pay as
much as
N800,000. They tutored on how to survive in the aircraft
compartment.
For one, it was learnt that they are given blankets and
winter clothes
with which they would keep warn while the plane is in
flight across
the Atlantic.
In the country of destination, the illegal immigrants are
received
by agents in the syndicate, who smuggle them into the
country.

Our source blamed the level of corruption at the airport
on poor
working condition, alleging that some of staff are paid
N30, 000
monthly.

“In this present day, how can one survive with such an
amount
of money? We have to survive; that is why there can never
be a cure
for the level of corruption at the airport. There is
nothing like
absolute security; the people at the helm of affairs
smuggle things
into the plane also, despite their fat allowance,” an
airport
worker said.
When contacted, officials of Delta airlines refused to
comment.
However, a policeman at the airport command confirmed the
incident
and said investigation was going on.
Isn't that "tragically humorous"?

May is soul rest in Peace!

Sandyprax,
l was being “very diplomatic”, by not mentioning yourself as the culprit but then, when  you came out to deny it openly, l have no choice than to “quote you” in as many times as you said so!

@vicjustice
.and therefore, those technician know better than to expect an ordinary piece of tape to secure a wind-shield window strong enough to hold extreme presure compressed air from gushing out of the plane.
@Sandyprax
Am sure there is a mix up somewhere, wether u like it or not, these people are not that silly as to use tape on a plane.

U are right, they r not that silly. Am sure its the way the poster presented the news here that is making it seem this terrible
I dont know exactly wether it was right or wrong for them to have done that but I still maintain that the white people have gone pass using cellotape to patch planes. If something went wrong and u look deeply into the matter, a black man's hand must be involved.
Let not live in extreme self-denial, please.

At least, Two people have "specifically said" THIS INCIDENT IS NOT TRUE!

Sadly, Ryan Air CONFIRMED that it is TRUE, on their website!

Question is: WHY WOULD MY NAIJA PEEPS MAKE-UP EXCUZES FOR OYINBO PEOPLE?

BUT will NEVER CUT SLACK FOR A FELLOW BLACK BROOD?

Granted, they are technologically more advance than us, in a broad sense but does that make them infallible, super-human or immune to mistakes or foolish behavior?

Imagine:
1.)They just fixed a window => The seal needs time to dry-up and be firm enough to withstand pressure.
Any reasonable airline that cherishes human life over profit will ground that plane for a day or at least some hours. RYAN AIR PUT IT IN THE AIR! shocked shocked

2.) They used Tape to secure it (as an extra precaution)  => By doing this, it shows they already knew or had the premonition that the seal has not harden enough to withstand the pressure. But they careless about human lives but would rather gamble with passenger lives!

3.)That the Tape started coming-off, 20mnutes into the flight => our fears in (1) and (2) above are justified!
Like a former Pilot on-board that flight said: The Pilot could have been sucked-out of the plane in mid-air (That was a former Pilot talking, not me and you that have never flown a plane so, dont start to prove or act smarter!)

4.) Being a "budget airline" is NOT AN EXCUSE to put people's life at risk, in such a manner!
Something "a few hours wait" could have resolved (and to think that the Pilot still went-on to abort the flight and they lost the same time (or even more hours) that they were trying to save! tongue tongue
Reducing "cost of ticket" is an economic decision to attract more passengers so you can "make-up" the perceived loss in income, from "Volume Trading"! Its not by force and it not a license for attempted murder!

In all these, all we could hear our "black brothers" say is "as long as it is Onyebeeke people doing the stupewdity, nothing spoil!
You see? You see what "INFERIORITY COMPLEX" does to human mind?

Like some have said, if it was Chachnagi or Bellview Airlines, my people will be howling all over the place like foxes and hyenas, hyperventilating about how savage and crude Nigerians are!

Nigeria(n) are truly a "case-study" in self-immolation!

all of you supporting legalisation of prostitution, hear this now: it won't stop there!!

The next thing is legalisation of:

- homosexuality
- pedophilia
- armed robbery
- kidnappings
- unregistered oil bunkering
- arson
-,

infact, please tell the senators to abolish the entire Nigerian penal code so that depraved souls like you can do as you please without any consequence!
You spoke my mind!

For a country that cant even produce car tyre, cant generate "epileptic" electricity, cant build its own roads, cant produce its own drugs, cant refine its own God-given crude oil, cant do anything,.,.,. Yet, IT WANTS TO COPY THE WESTERN WAY OF LIFE!

If "TAXABLE INCOME" is the only consideration in making any moral decision, we might as well legalize all the above and let them pay Tax!
*Armed Robber should pay Tax on their robbery

Did l hear you say they already pay?
Okay, "Plea-bargain" is a form of TAX on stolen loot! grin grin

"Copying" is good but for christ's sake, DONT JUST COPY THE BAD THINGS! Copy how they became self-sufficient in their other NEEDS!

Look at Iran, as isolated as it is, it is growing technologically, in leaps and bound yet we in Nigeria (as free as Gear-5! shocked ), we cant do Nadda!

Our greatest problem is now "legalizing prostitution"? huh huh

What a misplaced priority and wasted generation!

Leave the darn prostitutes and their patrons alone and focus on "Real Issues".

This "non-man" who assaulted his wife should be tarred and feathered. A real man doesn't hit women, especially his wife. His reasoning is irrational and just an excuse to beat up on a defenseless woman. He needs rehabilitation big time. I hope the wife gets a clue and leaves him.
Very, Very true!
