^^^^^^Completely correct!
MANY/MOST and ALL can never be the same thing!

And l never said ALL are guilty!

I used the word "MOST/SOME" (see my post pls) which is another word for "MANY".
Infact, the phrase "ALL PASTORS" never appeared anywhere in my post!
Where did you come about "ALL"?

Salutations: Thank you for raising this thread, Freecocoa

My dad: RARE GEM!

BTW: I never knew him as much as l would have loved to; fell out with Mum when l was still young and being very impressionable, l took all the "stories" women tell kids in such cases, too seriously!  (Anyway, l have forgiven Mum for her part in that)
When l became "an adult" and had the opportunity of getting close to him once more, all the good memories we shared as a kid, came flooding back! I wished l could go back in time but alas, he passed on just when the romance was just waxing strong!
But the little time we shared together was worth a "hundred years", every second of it.
He was a 'naturally good' man. Kind in the heart, firm and strong but most of all, his YES is ALWAYS his YES!.

And to those wondering why "most of the fathers are dead",  grin grin my Corper-friend in those days, commented that in Benin City (and it seems its not just Benin!) ALL YOU HEAR IS "MAMA LANDLADY"! Nothing like Baba Landlord who actually built the house! shocked shocked

Women are just smarter than they make the world believe! Even God knows this from the garden of Eden!!
Thats just the way the world is, sha. No qualms grin wink

If we can all keep those words, divorce lawyers would be out of job like last year wink
Harmony would rule in our family lives too.
But l guess its all about "wooh-uman Right" and Confrontation masquerading as Equality!

That part about "peeps reading other peeps opinion and then suddenly becoming "an authority"", based on the opinion they read, is so common****and funny too!
Like they say, shitz happenz! wink

By the way, where did you see "five star"? huh huh
I checked my handle and did not even see any star nor did l see in anyones handle?
Biikoo, enlighten me, ab u dey use binoculars grin

As for Dora, she is still my hero of a woman, despite her shortcomings.
Let all women maintain her standard and we would have less evil in our "Niaja" (Now, Dora will not like dat re-branding except that she's a politrickcian now and guess what, it dont matter no more! grin )

By the way, "Character is like smoke, no one can keep it hidden for too long"!

@haboosa - dont mind those covetous, and selfish people we call our spiritual leaders, they dont merit the priest they are called, they dont care about the live of the poorest member of the church , all they care is luxuries, Private jet, bullet proof cars etal . the question is " Does Jesus Christ fly a private jet or ride a bullet proof car?" Shocked
You have SPOKEN, my brother!
Infact, if we go back to the Bible account of Jesus, they tried to kill him and found it SO DIFFICULT to identify and single him out, among his disciples!
In any church today, you can SMELL the Pastor/G.O/ Reverend from a mile Off!
His Italian-Armani suit is wicked!
The "Jerry-Curls" of some of them will put Micheal Jackson (of the new OMO fame!) to shame!
Check out their Alligator-Skin shoe
Check out the Rolex wristwatch!
Check those off-road 4-wheels with bullet exterior and all leather interior
Worst of all, check the kind of "aristocratic" chair they set-up for themselves in the high places!
(All animals/christians are equal my foot!)
Even their wife gets "automatic elevation" to Mummy-this, Mummy-that and she expects you to bow when talking to her! angry
(I go marry Pastor, Walahi!) kiss kiss wink

It took Judas (one of his disciples, a thief and treasury looter from day-one) to IDENTIFY Jesus to his abductors, using the fateful "Kiss-of-Death"!

Pray, tell me, how are these church leaders "CHRIST-LIKE"?

Christ never acquired properties all over Gallile or Jericho but these ones are not done with those they have in Nigeria and Europe, Now they joined Ibori and Ibru, in DUBAI! Haaaba? angry

***Christ took care of the poor, he FED them! These ones BLEED the poor! shocked
***Christ Chased away, whipped and scattered the tables of those desecrating his church (Wicked Burea-De-Change grin and 419's)
***Modern day Pastors are in cahoot in aiding and abetting thievery, and therefore guilty, by association!

Mind you, Christ "dressed well", he did not wear rags (remember those warders fought over his robe?) BUT he did not make ostentatious dressing the "center-piece" of his ministry.

The irony of the whole situation is that "WE ARE THE MOST RELIGIOUS YET THE MOST ENDANGERED BY POVERTY!

My old man used to say: If we say the truth, we stand condemned, if we lie, nothing changes, therefore, why not say the truth and be damned!

I have respect for anyone who says he is a man-of-God, let God judge their conscience but was it not Christ that said the following:

"And these would be the signs that says the end is at hand: Men will be lovers of money, many will come and deceive the people in my name, war and rumors of war (reminds me of Atiku! grin ), then know that the end is at hand"!

End of sermon grin wink

While l am not against anyone praying for any other person, my grouse with "the Pastors" (not just Pastor Adeboye) is that DO THEY TELL THESE OUR LEADERS THE TRUTH?

Pastor Adeboye "prayed" for Obasanjo?
He prayed for James Ibori
He prayed for that cultist (remember the naked pictures?) called Gbenga Daniel
He prayed for all the Bank EXCO's that stole and used depositors money to buy property Abroad and build churches with the remainder grin
He prayed for all manner of thieving public/private officials

BUT did he tell them that:
You are in office to repair our roads?
To ensure our kids get good education?
To ensure that we dont kill our offspring with the fumes from i-better-pass generators?
That they should ensure that our hospitals are not glorified mortuaries?
That they kill more people than armed robbers, by looting money meant to repair all these major roads?
That God would not hear their prayer as long as they make the ordinary people suffer

I guess if he and other Pastors (Men of God) told them the TRUTH, like Prophet Nathan told king David the TRUTH (when he cornered Uriah's wife and killed her husband), Nigeria would have been better than this!

We cannot claim to be serving God (and every corner is a church!) while we continue to suffer and die of poverty after-all God said in the Bible:
"No one that serves me in truth, will BEG for food!"

More churches = More poverty in the land?
That is not God's will for us. Something is gravely wrong, somewhere!

just my ten cent sha.

I think there is a very "THIN LINE" between being a "coward" and being "flexible"!

Granted, Uncle GEJ has "reversed" himself a couple of times BUT lets look at it from another angle:

What would you have made of him if, in all those cases of reversal that you mentioned, he has been RIGID and failed to reverse himself in the light of  "NEW FACTS"? silly and Silly, right?  wink wink grin

Again, lets look at his "past antecedents".

Look at events that played-out before he became substantive President.
Do you remember for example, how that "Soja" stood behind the empty "Presidential Seat" (where GEJ was supposed to sit!), with a Rifle, openly displayed? Remember what that "unspoken" message was?

I think in the light of how he ascended the throne, he needs to be so wary as to be likened to "A CAT"!

Cats appear docile, lazy and even afraid but you only need to corner them to know how "wickedly brave and dangerous" they are!  grin grin

In summary, he is operating from a "weak position". He cannot afford any "gra-gra" until he is really sure who he's real enemies are, who the "snakes' are (especially in the Nigeria Armed Forces), who the "players" are and those he must do "Baba/Ranka dede/Onyinshi" to!  grin wink

But at times, l think we are too eager to condemn these Jonathan and we seem to be underestimating his capabilities!

Truly, he must have read two books: THE ART OF WAR!  and THE PRINCE (Machiavelli) shocked shocked

BTW: what is that gist about "his estranged wife" in that your post?
Dont estrange any wife now, abegi! grin

Even though he is highly respected not just by his own stock (for other things he did, like free education, free health, e.t.c) What he did (reneging on that agreement with Ojukwu) was morally wrong, completely wrong.
It could have been the other way round but believe me, AWOLOWO acted in his own "self interest"

Having said all these, l am one of the greatest fan of Dora. I wrote an article in 2006, on her and if you read that article, you will think l will take her from her husband  Grin Her work in NAFDAC alone will be a yardstick for generations to come! Though 'Politics' is not a very clean game, she has political ambitions and that may have colored her general disposition to certain things. One thing you cannot take away from those "blazing eyes" of hers is "boldness". I truly hope she is given the opportunity to show her worth again, in other areas that she fits squarely into (l think the "olofofo" Information Minister role was not a good era in her impeccable carrier.
Like you rightly said, She has proved herself beyond any doubt.
On the "balance of performance" in public office, she is exceptional.

I hope you will become PRESIDENT one day *********and re-read this piece!

Quote from BataThings:
Please tell me what Awolowo did wrong. This is for my education.
I really hate Obasanjo and I criticise him as I like. I detest El Rufai and I say my piece without any issue. I don't like Dora because she is a fake. To say it I am accused of tribalism, not minding where I come from. Look at the trend - we can only abuse Bankole, Atiku, GEj etc freely. We are free to praise Nnamani (former senate president) but cannot abuse Nnamani (former Gov); we can eulogise Chinua Achebe but we cannot harass Ohakim. you do us a lot of disservice.

BTW do you remember Dora (or is it Dorathy or Theodora like Naija v Nigeria) role in the Ekiti saga?
Thank you BetaThings.
From my own observation, analysis and discussion of the Biafran war with many folks, from reading books written by people from both sides and from interacting with people from all corners of the country, l will summarize what I FELT AWO DID WRONG!.

After the experience of the Igbos in the North (pogrom) and the reprisals in the East, it is understandable that each race did not feel safe in the locations/lands of the other.

The AGREEMENT to pull out of Nigeria (Igbos would form Biafra and Yorubas would form Odu'a, as separate countries) was arrived at, between Awo and Ojukwu.
THEY BOTH AGREED THAT EACH WOULD PULL HIS PEOPLE OUT

When the time came, Ojukwu announced his own secession and called it Biafra!
Ojukwu waited for Awo to do the same, knowing fully well that "The North/Nigeria" can NEVER win a war, if i had to fight both Biafra and Odu'a, at the same time.

AWO RENEGED ON HIS WORD AND DID NOT PROCLAIM ODU'A
He did not carry out the secession plan as agreed!
Now, rightly or wrongly (or for reasons that may be adduced later).

This, l think is wrong.
An agreement  between two gentlemen should be honored more so, when MILLIONS OF LIVES are at stake!
If you must BREAK AN AGREEMENT then you must ensure that the other party has not acted on it and has the time to reverse themselves, if possible.
THAT IS WHERE I THINK AWO DID WRONG.
To worsen matters, he now went further to join "Federal Nigeria" to wage war against the Biafra.
Ask yourself: What was "in it" for Awo, to join ranks with 'Federal Nigeria' back then? After all, the Yorubas too are having a rough time from the domineering North (back then)?

The answer lay in his "personal ambitions" (and selfish, l think) to one day be PRESIDENT OVER A "BIG and FEDERAL" NIGERIA! In retrospect, l think God was watching all these events *****and "waiting" too!

This singular act is what l think, created a very deep distrust between Igbos and Yorubas
(Naturally, we are closest and most comfortable with each other and that is why you notice that Igbos thrive better in the Yoruba lands than anywhere else in Nigeria, outside their native land).

Having said that, l also think it is wrong for us to keep instigating and festering this tree of hatred and distrust, in our offsprings!
Those that witnessed the "Biafran war" might find it difficult to "forgive and forget" (and l can feel their pain too) BUT the truth is that (and this is bitter to say), the Igbos can only align with "some other tribe" to realize Biafra (nay with minimum casualty) or even realize their own political ambition! A "unilateral pull-out" is possible but the "cost" is prohibitive too!!
Question is: With which "race' would they align with, (even if it is temporal) in present day Nigeria?
Should they align with the North?
Can they align with the South-South?
Is it the middle-Belt?
Is it with the West/South-West?

Remember, apart from the fact that you want to align with "A", those people must also be willing to align with you (which implies you both have a common purpose!). Also, we should keep the objective in focus since its no use aligning with "B" if such alignment cannot fulfill the "Objective"!
Anyway, this discussion is deeper than l can espouse here.

Bottom line is: let it be known that "one man's mistake" cannot be ascribed to a "whole race"! And finally, we need to be able to "forgive the past so that we can enjoy the future"

We are all brothers and even "The North" can be our best friend iff "they would accept/practice/behave that we are all equal in Nigeria and fairness should be our watch-word.

There cant ever be 'Peace' without Justice,
And 'Justice' itself means 'Fairness' to all!

Concerning Dora, l think we are over-flogging the issue!
She's not perfect but by "Nigerian, Public officials Standard", she's way-way above the fray!

What would you say of those "Sin-nators" allocating 30million Naira to themselves every month, in a country where people live on less than 300Naira/day? huh huh huh
Cheers.

@banom "I am a native of Anambra state, ( Enugu ukwu to be precise ) and i love this country too much just like you and every one else, but some thing just occurred to me this evening after going through some post on nairaland, i have found out that this country may not exist long enough if we continue in the way and manner we do things,

I am so passionate about this country and i hope to become the president of this country in the near future, and i wish to deliver a robust and result oriented exemplary leadership, but believe me, after seeing the way we Nigerians love to rubbish and pull good people down , how pensioners are been treated, how we the common masses appreciate good service, i am beginning to feel and think otherwise about my vision for this country,

Let me start by saying that the attitude of Yorubas in this country is quite sickening, disappointing, backward and silly, right from the days of Awolowo, yorubas have always shown this pathological hatred, ill will and envy for Igbos, there problem is insecurity, they know that they are naturally no match for Igbos and the only way to get back is through envy , betrayal, backstabbing and ill will, i personally blame zik for his inability to understand that on time and ojukwu for his In ability to successfully secede igbos from this useless entity called Nigeria,

prof Dora akunyili is by all standard the greatest woman this country ever produced, who else will fit into that crown if not one selfless woman who risked her life and that of her family in her days as NAFDAC boss, fighting and destroying hundreds of billion naira illegal drugs owned by her own people, who else if not one courageous woman who risked every thing and presented her memo during the days of the notorious cabals, Etc,

Today she has joined politics and some petty minded people ( mostly yorubas) are on this forum trying to rubbish her and her legacies for no other reason other than
tribalism, envy, ill will and unspoken evil scheme by yorubas to rubbish any thing Igbo from national lime light, if she is from Oyo or Ogun state , by now most of this same people will be here praising her.

if you think i am just high or drunk this night by writing this, go through all the post made about Dora akunyili, and you will see that all most all her critiques are yorubas, there problem with her is what one cant explain, they have no rational case against her, just envy and some silly emotional problem, they have not been able to point out one wrong thing she did , just silly talks,

Top on this childish and ridiculous scheme is the jobless girl called KOBOJUNKIE, she has spent all her time here trying to rubish Dora Akunyili, a woman who is far more accomplished than KOBOJUNKIE's entire family, she hides her real problem with Dora under the cover of national interest and patriotism, but this was the same kobojunkie who came here defending Pastor E.A Adeboye, a criminal who hides his criminality under the cover of a man of God, a man who deceives and exploits poor , desperate and gullible Nigerians,a man who used billions of naira he fleeced from poor and down trodden Nigerians to buy private jet, to a jobless girl like Kobojunkie, such a man is a good Nigerian and a woman like Dora akunyili who sacrificed so much for this country is bad,

you guys should growm up, this is 21st century , envy, ill will and hatred for a particular tribe is some thing best practiced during the days of awolowo, not in our time,

But any one who has a genuine case against her should please come here let us debate it.

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-569051.0.html
Hey dude, slooooowwww down!
First, l admire your ambitions BUT you will agree with me that "A PRESIDENT" is a father of the whole nation and if you harbor these much hatred against YORUBA PEOPLE, how will you be a father to them, as the President of this nation? Do you feel disqualified already?

Again, l want to ask you: Do you, have you or dont you have one (just one) Yoruba person that you like?
The HUMBLE TRUTH is that you cannot judge/condemn a WHOLE RACE based on your interaction with just a few of them!
It is called "Racial Profiling" and has been proved wrong, over and over again, all over the world!
Remember those "Caucasians" who simply believe Africans are inferior humans just because they are darker in skin color? What do you think of such people? (I am sure you will say any white person that thinks you're inferior just because you're darker-skinned, is silly, stupid and ignorant! grin grin )

Thats how it goes my brother. By the way, l am Yoruba and l am christian! (does that make any difference sef?)
I have people l dislike among all the tribes in Nigeria (sure, we dont have to, and cant like everybody!), l have Hausa, Ibos, every other tribe and even Yorubas like myself that l dislike BUT on the other hand, l have thousands of other people of these same tribes that l like! wink wink

Will l be correct to say all Igbos are "these and that" simply because YOU (Yes, YOU) have castigated and insulted my own race? No, l will be very, very wrong, to put it mildly.
In essence my friend, dislike the person that offends you (if you wish) but make peace with as many as have done nothing wrong to you!
Keep an open mind about "everyone" until they prove you wrong.

If l tell you a story about how l was "cheated" at Oshodi market in the 1987, you will laugh tire.
Let me summarize it a bit:
It was close to Christmas and l have saved this small amount of money to buy me some special "wears" (in addition to the customary ones parents normally provide). So, l got to Oshodi and approached these Shop run by an Igbo man. I told him l want the best silk shirt he can get for me and he brought out a very fine Navy blue silk shirt. It was entrancing! He charged a very stiff price for it and l agreed to pay that price because l really loved the shirt and knew l will certainly catch an 'opeke' that Christmas grin
I asked him to measure me to ensure the shirt was my size. He said he was sure it was my size but l insisted he 'measure' and let me see! grin
What happened next was an experience that makes me "smile" even as l write now!
He measured from my body, from right shoulder, vertically downwards to my thighs (32"wink and he measured the shirt and he showed me that it was 32.5"!. L saw it with my own eyes!
I took my shirt home, very happy, it was Dec 24th!
On Christmas day, l donned my Shirt and the "bottom sims" ended just a little above my NAVEL! cry cry
Well, l am sure the sweat that broke from my brows was more than that of all the Christmas chickens (combined), that was slaughtered that morning! cry cry

To cut the long story short, l cried! For so many reasons!!
I went back to his Shop on Dec. 27th. He feigned ignorance and asked me if l did not measure it before paying! angry
He would not accept the shirt nor refund my money back to me.
After about three hours, (l refuse to leave the place!), another Shop-keeper close to him called me inside his shop and showed me "How l bought what became popularly known as MONKEY SHIRT in the market parlance!

The guy measured the shirt "from its right shoulder (diagonally!), to its left base/bottom and thus, even though he knew it was way below my length, it still showed 32.5" on the measuring tape!
Till today, l still "dislike" that guy for ruining my Christmas!
HE IS IGBO!
But l still have thousands of fine Igbo gentlemen as my best of friends, today!

Dont mind my digression. The moral of my story is that if you must dislike/hate, dont generalize it!

If you ask my Igbo friends, or make that your assertion about "Yorubas hating Igbos", they will simply laugh at you grin ;
What happened between Awolowo and Ojukwu was a sad event, a regrettable one at that. A bad chapter in our history. Something the "next generation" must not be poisoned with.

Even though he is highly respected not just by his own stock (for other things he did, like free education, free health, e.t.c) What he did (reneging on that agreement with Ojukwu) was morally wrong, completely wrong.

ZONING is a PDP arrangement? CORRECT.
ZONING has been in place since the PDP was created wayback before OBJ came to power? CORRECT.
ZONING produced OBJ? CORRECT (or maybe the North just produced him to serve their interest?)

The NORTH wants all Nigerians to respect ZONINGhuh??
The NORTH wants GEJ to respect ZONING? CORRECT!!!

Now, lets go back a few steps and see if the above is true:

In 2003, ATIKU was Vice President of Nigeria? CORRECT!
In 1999 and 2003, ZONING produced ATIKU? CORRECT!!

In 2003, ATIKU, GEMADE, and many other Northerners (products of PDP ZONING!) CONTESTED against OBJ for PDP Presidential Ticket? CORRECT!!!

So, Nigeria did not burn in 2003 when these clowns were "challenging OBJ and did not follow"  PDP ZONING, (by contesting against OBJ!)?

How come that NOW that GEJ is also exercising his constitutional right, ATIKU and the Northern warriors are threatening the whole Nation?

What is good for the goose should be good for the gander, abi no be so?

As far as we know, the Northerners were the first to thrash that PDP ZONING arrangement in 2003 (and for good too!) but like they say,

@ibmaleeq:  imagine a scenario where a serving Minister addresses Obasanjo n tells him of his resignation and worse still of his dumping of PDP to another party, for 1 thing deres more freedom now in the polity for people to willfully express demselves,
And what do you think would happen "in the good old days of Baba Iyabo"?

Let me give you an insight into what would likely follow:

Baba Iyabo: Dora, so u want to resign from my cabinet?

Dora: Yes Baba, l thank you so much and lam am actually going to join APGA!

Baba Iyabo: Shaarraap there, oloshi, oloriburuku, weere (and lots of other invectives).

Dora: Haah Baba, what did l do wrong now?

Baba Iyabo: Its now fight-2-finish between me and you. You want to embarrass me publicly eehn?

Dora: Noooo! Baba, l am just expressing my views and ambition, with all respects.

Baba Iyabo: Respect my foot (Remember CAN my foot?), Get Nuhu Ribadu for me, its because of "mad dogs" like you, that l keep a very mad one at home"!
Nuhu R: Yes Baba, has someone been stealing again? Just tell me the name and l will do "my job" to the best of my ability.

Baba Iyabo: Go and open that big drawer and get me a Dora's file

Nuhu R: Aaaah Baba, l thought she is one of your favorites? I dont have a file on her, just some scraps and pieces and even those ones are just scattered here and there!

Baba Iyabo: Nuhu, you're beginning to loose your sharpness 0! Preeeeh-shun! Saalute!!, Aaaabout-turn!!! Now, compile a for me on Dora and let EFCC be ready to prosecute in court by next week.

Nuhu R: Baaaaaba, habba! You cant even take a joke?

Baba Iyabo: Whats funny in this embarrassment?

Nuhu R: When l said l dont have a file on Dora (laughs and picks his teeth!) . Actually, l have a file on everybody, some are in my house while some are closer to you, especially those l think you will need for third term!

Baba Iyabo: you dis boy, walahi l will make you the I.G. when l get my third term! You're just too smart for my liking (laughs and pounds his big tummy!)

Dora: Actually Baba, l have re-considered my proposition and now, l want to be Minister for "Re-Consideration" or better still, PDP governor in Anambra!

Baba Iyabo: Aaah-haaaa-haaaa, this gaal is also smart! Look at the way she did "U-Turn" on Express Road like Peter Schumacker? Nuhu, do you remember that Tax-zi driver called Shumacker? Now Dora, go and tell the whole world how beautiful my government is and let me hear you all the way from my farm. (Dora saunters off).

Nuhu R.: Baba, dat gaal nearly upset you today if not for my "correction files"! These anti-corruption war must be doubled and fought with all our strength!

Baba Iyabo: That reminds me, did you say you have files here inside Aso rock and some at home? And you have it on "everybody"?
Nuhu R: Yes Baba, "everybody" walahi!

Baba Iyabo: So, is my own file at home or at Aso Rock here?
Nuhu R: At home sir!

Baba Iyabo: Whaaat? You mean you did a file on me? shocked  angry

Nuhu R: No Sir, l mean Yess Sir, l did not do for everybody! l only did for corrupt pheople and you're the only person that can identify corrupt pheople! Walahi, l swear!! cry cry

Baba Iyabo: Will you stop speaking like a Mallam and go and get my File down here , where we can make good use of it incase l decide to run for 3rd term

Nuru R. meets Dora outside and they both exchange glances  shocked shocked He mutters something about that Baba growling at people like a Gorrilla but he dares not let Dora hear him! Dora might go back and tell Baba (She wont have any qualms to shoot you in the back, for personal glory!)

Well, Dora should thank her stars, only a GEJ can tolerate this and even allow her to launch a special appeal fund, all in one go grin

Caveat: These conversation is not real and only took place in the virtual world of the spirits, take it with a pinch of salt and at your won risk! grin grin

^^^^^I guess what he is saying @2 is that:

a) Most files used to upgrade or re-install, due to their large "original size", get zipped, to make them smaller and easier to share.
b) When you download such file, you are downloading a "zipped" file
c) To use such file, you have to "unzip" the file first, before use (a kind of decompression to its original size).
d) If you use the file as it is, (straight from download), you will likely not get it to work as your STB/Decoder may not be able to "unzip" (decompress) it automatically.
Your Box may then end up with "bad software" as it is!

Hope this answers your question.

Cheers.

By the way: You can know if the file is zipped when you check the "type", from the file name.
Zipped file always end in .zip (dot zip). You can download free unzip software to unzip them.

@Kobojunkie
What a silly argument for a non-issue.

The situation has NOTHING to do with OFFICIAL CIRCLES. Companies ARE NOT NOW using the Name NAIJA even in  OFFICIAL CIRCLES(there are no reports of that even being a case), and so it makes NO SENSE to start a campaign against that which is not even an issue.  A reality"ENTERTAINMENT" show has nothing to do with OFFICIAL CIRCLES.
I use to believe you're one of the very few "GROWN-UPS" still hanging out around here but from your penchant at THROWING INSULTS FIRST, anytime you want to make a rejoinder, l can see that l was really mistaken!
I would not go down the road of GUTTER LANGUAGE with you cos l remember that while growing up, one of the morals instilled in us by our parents is that "what you say and how you say it" is an accurate reflection of your upbringing.

Having said that, "A company like Etisalat, (A CORPORATE BODY) did make an advert in billboards all over the place, promoting its "corporate product and boosting its corporate image". In that advert, the company substituted NIGERIA for NAIJA!

Now if that is not "official circles", someone's academic pedigree and intellectual capacity needs to be properly investigated! shocked huh

In my own opinion, Dora Akinyilu has done brilliantly for this country. If a quarter of the noise-makers on this forum can do a quarter of what she's done, Nigeria would have improved a lot better.
The Information Ministry is like putting a square peg in a round hole, it does not fit the personality of someone who is "brash, blunt, straight-shooting and consumed in fervor"! She's just trying to "do something" in that Ministry. I hope she goes back to her first love, the "Health Industry".

Like l said, l am very selective about the caliber of people l take-up issues with, on forums (and this is no disrespect to anyone but just a wise choice concerning "resource" management) since the internet anonymity means "the doves and the chickens" got to roost together!

So, dont expect further rejoinder on this, from me.

Okay, now l am getting somewhere!

So, if l understand correctly, "Madam" was saying we should not call Nigeria, "Naija" in "official circles", as in when dealing with corporations?
if thats her angle, l can still align with that since "officially", the country's NAME is Nigeria.

On the other hand, we cant all be mentioning Nigeria in official circles, abi?
If l am talking to my sister now, or my friend and l use the word "Naija", there is nothing wrong in that!

I agree with her that "Corporate bodies" should not use it "officially", its supposed to be a kinda "slang" and you dont use slang in a corporate environment.
Imagine if you go to an interview and they ask you where you're from and you say "Am from Naija"!

You're correct but in that circumstance, you'll sound more like "an unserious Hippy" and that job might just kiss you goodbye.

But l doubt if that is the "biggest" problem we have now in Naija! shocked shocked shocked

I mean to say Nigeria joo! grin grin

What about "PHCN, Bad Roads, empty classes, Armed robbers/Kidnappers/Ritual Killers, Unemployment, e.t.c?
Should "Madam" not pay attention to those (using her Information Minister's platform) than this Nomenclature?

Anyway sha, Madam don try for this Naija, before now.

Sports › Re: I Need 3 Years To Rebuild Eagles -siasia by lastpage: 3:42am On Nov 19, 2010
Nigerians are very funny people, some are even outright irresponsible!

Lets ask ourselves: What does it take to have a sound National Team? Teams like Germany, Brazil, Spain, e.t.c

If we give ourselves HONEST answers to this question, then we can decide if Siasia must win all the next competition in ONE YEAR!

My own "contribution" to the answer are:

1.) Solid football administrative structure (Football Association) Like the British Football Association, German F.A; Do we have that? NO
2.) Verile Football league; Like the Premier League in U.K, La Liga, Brazil League, e.t.c. Again, Do we have that? NO
3.) Functioning football Academies: This is where the grassroot footballers develop from, to mature into age-grade competitions and then the National team. In Nigeria, we use to make do with the likes of YOUTHSFON, Secondary School Principals Cup, Inter-State Cup, University and Polythenic Games and the likes. Again, do we have that? NO

So, where is the MAGIC going to come from, even if you bring Jose Maurinho (Like you brought the German Coach and Lagerback) to come coach the Super Eagles?
No shortcut to the top of a Palm Tree. End of story

Siasia is asking for these 3years to cater for the poor infrastructure on ground, that he has to cope with.
He has even earn my respects more, by not promising (like Polititrick-cians do!) what he knows he cant deliver in one year.

Lets all join hands with him, instead of pulling him down.
The greatest enemy of football in Nigeria are those guys in NFF.
Like their mentor Amos Adamu, they are all full of shyte. Completely after money and loot they can lay hands on.
Until we clear-out those criminals in NFF (and even let that corrupt FIFA ban us while we rebuild) and put credible people there, even Siasia might not achieve his aim.
My ten cent.

Until l "read" her reasons for saying we can not refer to Nigeria as "Naija", in our local parlance and "down-town" manner, l will hold my tongue.
They call America, "Amee", they call Britain "Britico or Ilu-nla", Italy, "Italo", and there is Germani, Pakky (Pakistan), e.t.c
Why should Nigeria not have a "pet" name, one that is not even derogatory at that? huh

Having said that, like the poster  observed she started-out brilliantly until she couldn't say 'NO' to that "Information Minister portfolio"!
To me, l dont feel her greatest strength was being another "just-say-as-we-told-you" Minister.
She has too much "individualism" in her character ab-initio, she is bound to trip over.

And then, l think her personal "Political Ambition" is now her motivating factor, so much so she is ready to "do/ say anything".

She was "powerful enough" as an academic, as NAFDAC D.G, as a Professor, even as a Minister!

I dont know what becoming a Governor will add to that except she wants to follow or thrash it out in Anambra, with former CBN Governor (Soludo, who suddenly became one of the wealthiest Professors around, after his stint as CBN head, even though he has been a Professor all these years!  angry Goes to show what Government job is all about  wink)

I admire her a lot, and l dont admire people that much!
I "love" her and wish she would not keep going this way. Honestly, she is one of the few people in Government l admire and respect deeply.
Ribadu is another, despite his weaknesses, under Obasanjo's overbearing influence.

I am late to this thread but despite that, a few things caught my attention.

@DapoBear
Quote from: igbobuigbo on November 16, 2010, 12:42 AM
Mormons are good but are as trenchantly religious as Jehovah's witnesses.

Nothing wrong with that. They do a lot of evangelism, but don't do any harm, imo.

I used to have very bad notions about Mormons. Their religion is clearly fake and crackpot. But as fake as their religion is, it produces results: hardworking, honest and sober people who are trustworthy and family-oriented. Can the same be said about Christians or Muslims?

Too many Christians cannot be trusted (and I say this as a Christian myself.) Too many Muslims have very primitive ideas in their heads and are lazy.
The statement above and the response that followed it (especially from "fxstranger), set me really thinking.
Good that "DapoBear" has clarified things concerning "fxstarnger's" worry. An l like DapoBear somehow.

My Question is: What is Religion or What makes a "Good Religion"?

judging by the few "slants" that were given to the Mormon (l am not one!), l begin to ask myself, "If all Christians or other religions in Nigeria behave the way the Mormons behave, will we not have a better country?

Someone opined that "there are things they do in their temple" that we are not aware of. (Then dont lets speculate if we dont know!)
Another equated them to Jehovah's Witnesses!
And l remember that its the same way that Rosicrucians have been talked about!!!

But l still maintain that if we the Christians and Muslims (being the majority or about 90% of Nigerians) behave the way these other sects behave, Nigeria would still be better!

Thus, l came to the conclusion that, even as a christian, and you would think this Mormons are not "christianly enough" as we 'mainstream' christians want to believe, but the "Fruits that they bear" is better than the "Fruits" most christians and Muslims bear.
And the Bible says "by their fruit you shall know them, every good Tree would bear good fruits!"

My drift is that "those we consider to be un-christianly, un-religious, non-pious Muslims" are the exact ones that bear the fruit that God wants us to bear! How come?
Are we just bearing the "Title" of Christians/Muslims while the same people we kind of castigate, are the ones bearing the "Fruit of good religion"?

If that is the case, then l can summarize "Good religion" as doing good, doing unto others as you would expect them to do unto you, IRRESPECTIVE of the CHURCH/MOSQUE you attend or the NAME you call the God you serve".

Can anyone argue against this, OBJECTIVELY WITHOUT RECOURSE TO FOUL LANGUAGE PLEASE?

Truly, "God" is inside all of us! HE is not in the church, Mosque or any religious building or in the "name" we call our religion!!

Peace.

NOBODY has answered the posters question! angry
Somebody should please answer the question grin

Again, someone posted another serious question: Why do banks hang picture of the President and the Governor, in their banking hall?

And if l may add, why do they quickly remove it the next day, when that President/Governor is booted out of office?  grin

And to add to the confusion, l want to ask:
Why do Nigerian security personnel carry GUNS in the open? Why do they use so much violence?

Like, police escort carrying AK47 in the lobby of "chairman's office" or Perm-Sec office?

IMO, l think we Nigerians have mistakenly equated "FORCE" with "SECURITY"!

"Force" is instinctive, animalistic and low-level method of achieving a set objective!

"Security" is all about INTELLIGENCE and INFORMATION management!

Until the people in power in Nigeria can make this distinction, you will always have these situations of "no phone in the bank, "guns at check-point", spontaneous riots, unsolved robberies and other criminal acts like assassinations, car-jacking and kidnapping.
Dont even mention the craddle-robbers in our midst.

"Force" should be a last resort.
Train our security apparatchik to "nip issues" in the bud before they become events, unsolved events for that matter!

Look at our SSS and DMI (Directorate of Military Intelligence) for example.
Lets leave those dunce in black uniform out of it for now grin
We have thousands of them in this country yet, a ship-load of arms came inside, and left! grin
Yet, Toxic waste get to berth at our ports all the time!
Yet, Ritual killers and kidnappers are having a field day!

Yet the government buy more guns for them from tax-payer's money, every time sad

Worse even, armed robbers have the "courtesy" to officially inform victims they would be visiting them and successfully too shocked

Security is not a past-time (or something you do because you cant get another job!), it is a full time discipline, even as demanding if no more, than being an Engineer or a Doctor!
I am referring to "qualified, active and successful security performance", in this instance.
God help us.

Why is it always one embarrassment, after another?

If l decide to list all the "international embarrassment" that have been bestowed on oneself, as a Nigerian, in the last one year, l guess it becomes understandable to forgive those people who ridicule Nigerians!

From the Abdul-Muttallab pant-bomber, to the Independence day Bomb-blast, from Boko-Haram massacre to unnecessary cholera deaths, from blink small-no blink-at-all electricity supply, decadent hospitals, death traps called roads, to that shameful Ibori trial in London, to pictures of Lagos residents cannibalizing a dead & rotten-ing Whale!

From the Bank executive "slap-on-the-wrist" sentence, to the realization that importers of many containers of sophisticated and high-calibre weapons can suddenly disappear into thin air, to allegations of officials using fake certificates (like the Custom Boss!) and

From the shameful episode (or was it home movie  shocked ) when Nigeria could not locate its President until he was pronounced dead, to our woeful performance in the South Africa World Cup (with all the un-official boxing matches that followed the sharing of the loot!  grin ),

Car Talk › Re: Why Are You Driving Manual gear? by lastpage: 1:13am On Nov 10, 2010
I am "Auto-fan" for life grin

My first car was an auto.
I had never really driven before though l used to sit in the back seat as a little boy, when my Mum was doing driving lessons and l must have picked-up some little driving skills from there cos when my first car was delivered to my office around 7pm (from Cotonou!), l was suddenly left to take it home and embarrassment wont allow me to come-out and say l have not driven before cry

Well, l climbed in when traffic was down around 9pm and drove it all the way to Yaba area of Mainland! I was thrilled beyond imagination!
I guess if it was "manual", l would probably have slept the whole night on the 3rd Mainland Bridge. cry cry
That only made me fell for Auto.

Again, l love the Sound/pitch of the Auto car as it automatically selects higher gears!
Its such a thrill for me when l floor the accelerator and the car literally lunges forward, with the seat giving me a jolt on my back!

Again, anyone that works in V.I will appreciate the gift that an Auto car is.
In our crawling traffic, Auto is a breeze, just one leg and one hand is all you need (and remember when l twisted my ankle is a charity football match, Manual requires two good legs, walahi!) to move an Auto-car.

Guess out of "adventure" or may be bad advise, my wife insisted she wants a 'manual car' (she has driven my auto well well) and l bought her a "manual" Camry but after a few weeks, its like she will leave the Camry at home and take my own "auto" car out.
Well, until we sold the Camry, its always an argument grin

Its true about the "No good Battery, no movement" in Auto-cars and that could be a big issue at times but l guide against this by using inverter batteries (Deep cycle) though more costly but very reliable.

I also feel "manual" cars react quicker or respond faster to gear changes in case of emergencies.
Again, manual cars will get you out of a ditch or a sliding slope better than an "auto" since they have this sudden burst of power from zero-km but autos will take it "easy" at first, until they get into the groove;;;;;;;and when they do;;;;;  wink wink

Another advantage of "auto" l experienced is that while l have taken my "manual" car to auto-mechanics to repair 'burnt clutches' or to repair some gear-teeth that got worn out, my "auto" never gave me any problem. In fact, for like two years, all l do is put water in the windscreen wiper, in my auto, for the first two years!

Overall, l have driven each type of car (Insurance outside Nigeria forced me to drive Manual again, for some time) and l can say that about 90% of people who drove "Auto" will not want to drive a Manual.

Everyone driving a manual needs to try an Auto first, then come back and tell us if you still prefer the manual grin wink

I hope l stuck to the rules of this post (with my long story) but if l did not, forgive me, Me Badd.

On Ribadu, l LOVE the guy too much kiss

BUT, l know leading a country goes beyond "intent of the mind", a little experience is required and l would also like to see Ribadu contest for the Guvnor of a place like Lagos (YES, LAGOS)!
And l believe he can win Lagos if not for Fashola who has been a trail-blazer.

Having said that, l am shocked that in 2011, we are still stuck in the thinking that only "ageless" old men of close to 70yrs, men who have ruled us before, can still rule us again! What about infusion of "experienced but new" blood?

How about well educated people?
How about technocrats?
But more importantly, we need enduring structures, not really people per say.
We need laws that work and structures for enforcing them (not depending on some over-indulged criminals called "Law Breakers"wink

Why must we put our future in the permutations of "religion and ethnicity"?

As for Tinubu, he is exhibiting "political promiscuity" and such people who dont express "principle" in politics are a bad example of leadership.
For them, its all about being in power, no matter whose ox is gored. Its not about service to the people!
I wish him the best sha grin

BTW:
Again, l am not Igbo but l find it highly condescending that anytime they talk about "office", its always a V.P thats reserved for the Igbos! angry

Why must the Igbos always be given "second position"? Why are the Igbos always accepting second fiddle as if it was a right (and l noticed it i an Igbo son who even first made the suggestion on this particular thread!)
Why do we think a good and credible Igbo son cannot emerge and become Nigeria's President?
In terms of numbers, no one can win the Presidency without the Igbo vote.

Well, l guess it has to come from "the inside", you've got to show the desire first, for others to rally around you.
