It is this kind of "senseless" killings that makes "Good People", people that can deliver good government, people that have the fear of God, people that respect human lives, people that value progress, technology and advancement, people that will uphold the "rule of law", people that would obey court judgment, people that would not loot our treasury, people that have invested much in "their own life' and therefore respect the life of others-*-*-*-*

ITS IS THIS KIND OF SENSELESS KILLING THAT MAKES THEM STAY AWAY FROM OUR BLOOD-THIRSTY POLITICS!

Thus we will continue to be ruled by the likes of the baboon from Otta!

50 Armed Robbers? Hmmmm, ,

I think its time these Robbers FORM A POLITICAL PARTY!
If one unit of armed robbers can muster 50 people at a time, l bet they can win an election against PDP! grin grin

Having won the election, they can now pass a Bill to disband that "useless" Nigeria Police, completely.
At least, we would be rid of gun-totting "robbers" collecting money at "checkpoints" or shooting people that refuse to pay! No more "Rogger" tongue tongue

They can now also legalize "Robbery" (but should ban the use of weapons so that the public is protected), at least it wont be only "politicians and career civil servants" that can rob the nations treasury without fear of arrest!

But when a "new" wife starts using it on a dog-tired tired husband, just because she wants him to make love to her (like the man would not wake up the next morning and make the same love) I am beginning to squirm!

And to see loads of in-experienced and outrightly stu.pid folks offering her silly advice!

If it was the man that slapped a woman because he wants to have intimacy, he is labeled A despoiler, A WIFE BEATER!

In this case, she gets a pat on the back and all focus is on the "arm-twisting" that followed! shocked shocked
Gosh, do we have so many i-diotic morons on Nairaland?

We are "equal" abi? or is it not so again?

And l think it is a very "bad sign" for a woman to start hitting her husband, in the first place, knowing that she cannot win a "physical tango"! Whats the point of starting one?

The funny thing is that "statistics" are never wrong! grin

In my church (and l want other Nairalanders to conduct this research too, in their own church),

*The Church started with about seven (7) women, the Pastor and his wife.
*Today, about 70% of the church adults are women.
*About 70-75% of "church workers" (Ushers, Sunday School, .e.t.c) are women
*About 60% of these women are divorced/separated from their husbands! Another  25% are "earnestly looking for husbands (30yrs+ age)
*On this particular forum, majority (about 65%) of those saying "Pay the Money, ask no questions" are women
*Most churches properties are "registered" as a CHARITY and therefore "Tax Exempt" but in the name of the Pastor (and his wife!!)

ITS UP TO ANYONE TO DRAW THEIR INFERENCES FROM THESE FIGURES BUT I AM WORRIED ABOUT WOMEN, JUST LIKE ADAM WAS, IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN! huh huh

BTW: In a country where INDUSTRIES and INDUSTRIAL WAREHOUSES ARE CONVERTED TO CHURCHES, are we still surprised that:
*We remain one of the most technologically backward and dependent countries in the world?
*Lack the basic amenities of life, like stable electricity, despite the abundance of wealth in our land?
*That we are ruled by "monkeys" masquerading as Political/Democratic heavy-weights?
*That we produce nothing are import virtually everything
*That even the Caucasians (Americans/Europeans/whites in general) that attend less church, have less churches per square-Km of land space, enjoy a far-better standard of living and live longer than we Nigerians?

I think we should all buy Fela's Album (Suffering and Smilling) and listen to the lyrics, (even if you hate his lifestyle and cant stand his Ganja  grin ).

@Redman44.
Thanks bro, you hit the nail on the head!
"Everything" works as a "System".
If any or some-part of the "system" is missing, the "system" suffers a breakdown.
In our current scenario, we have more than "a few" parts of the "Security System" not available, not functioning or out-rightly missing!
You sure cant do any meaningful "Security" on Generators!
You cant do remote monitoring with the kind of epileptic and sub-standard "Broadband" we have in Nigeria!
You cant do any meaningful surveillance or perimeter protection when light would go and come-up at will.
You cant do private security (as it is supposed to be, without arms!) when the Police are still complaining that their vehicle does not have Tyre or fuel grin

We can go on an on.
Unless govt provides the "basic infrastructure", the private sector which is supposed to be the engine of growth with simply continue to struggle.

Why should anyone put his life on the line for $75 when a "Sin-nator" who sleeps through house sessions (whenever they manage to show-up!) and have no single bill passed for a whole year grin , goes home with a salary that even an American President can only dream-of? Even with the Naira-to-dollar exchange rate!
Me thinks thats like suicide (though one should do the job "properly", once you accept to do it, level of remnumeration not withstanding)

@Redman44
In a normal situation, Mobile Policemen should not be guarding banks in the country. So I kind of support the decision of the Inspector General of Police. This is the time for Ex Servicemen to get up and create Private Security Firms that will keep our banks safe. Some processes in Nigeria have to be stopped and withdrawing Mobile Policemen from the Banks is one of them. The banks on the other hand have to pay the Nigeria Police Force if they want regular policemen to act as guards for their premises. A lot of things have to change in Nigeria especially our mindset. Cheers.
The highlighted part refers.
Why do we still think "Ex-Service men" are required to set-up a "Private Security Outfit"?
In my own opinion, l think that is one of our basic mistakes: We equate "Security" with "armed force"

Please be reminded that "Private Security" all over the developed countries has NOTHING to do with being an Ex-Service person since Private security dont actually shoot people/armed robbers, they will only alert the Armed tactical Team/SWAT who are members of the Police/Military.

Security itself is more of "Intelligence borne out of adequate training" (which people study for and acquire degrees/competence-in).
Though, being an ex-service man may give you some "background" knowledge in some of the courses that a private security person has to go through as (depending on your field of competence in the armed service, e.g, an NDA trained military officer who specializes in intelligence or surveillance) you might have done the same course somewhere along the line.

The greatest problem Ex-Service men have when they go into Private Security (and the same reason most advance countries dissuade them going-in) is that they still want to retain their "armed mentality" whereas "Private Security" is about civilians and is not based on "armed action" in any way!. Ex-Service men would rather "shoot their way" through a stand-off, while a Private Security operative would rather "talk-down" the assailant using intelligence gathered earlier!

Anyway, how many Ex-Service men or MOPOL can program a CCTV system to "patrol, do remote monitoring" or do all those things it is supposed to do? I bet we can count on our fingers grin

Infact, the "Private Security Organisation Act in Nigeria" as presently constituted reminds one of the "1999 Constitution" as mid-wived by the military, it's just not "fit-for-purpose".
Or how else would you for example, explain a situation where a well trained (to degree level) and U.K licensed Private Security personnel who has been running Security Outfit in the U.K for some years goes back home and is told he cannot setup a Private Security Outfit, simply because he is not an "Ex-Service Man"? grin huh
Its in their "mentality", no wonder you see "Armed Policemen" guarding rich people and Chinese contractor! Something you dont see in enlightened countries!

Politics › Re: Federal Govt Under Pressure To Arrest Tinubu by lastpage: 3:02pm On Jan 09, 2011
After six pages, the only person that made any sense, because he knows what is "gwan under the table" is e-herbal! Let me quote him again!
tinubu is nothing but an usurper.he cleaned out the A.D and it's founding fathers.the likes of abraham adesanya, ganiyu dawodu and the likes were relegated to the back seat in the running of the affairs of the party back then.these were the same men who brought him to be governor even though funsho williams was the one who won the primaries. It can be authoritatively deduced that tinubu directly or indirectly caused the untimely demise of these elder statesmen.after gaining control of the party he went for the states jugular, the treasury.he milked the state dry.lagos state civil servants were and are still the least paid in the country .he used the ill gotten wealth to set up companies like alpha beta, lasaa, and others.apart from the afore mentioned.he gets a clean sized percentage from the states internally generated revenue, from local govt chairmen (whom he personally hand picked and imposed against the people's mandate)and the federal allocation.a level seven civil servant in lagos earns 25,000 a month, has a family of four to take care of,transports himself everyday, feeds, clothes himself etc.before you know whats gwan, the pay is exhausted within 2wks,then he resorts to what he knows best.stealing and short changing his employers.you might be saying that it's now a fashola problem, but it's actually a carry over of the tinubu era, fashola is merely acting out a script.remember,'he who pays the piper, dictates his tune'.tinubu should be put out of circulation for a while to allow for true development take place in lagos state.his colossal plundering of the states resources should be put paid to.the federal govt is not planning any arrest on the scoundrel,he's only blowing a whistle on himself.
Lest i forget, fashola should let lagos state civil servants know the true position of things concerning his proposed minimum wage of 12.500 when other states are getting ready to pay 18,000.let him bear in mind that lagos is the most expensive state in the country and it's work force cannot bear to be left behind in the harmonisation of such magnitude. Remember, your election is around the corner now that you've clinched the ACN TICKET   Angry
This is not an Hausa Vs. Yoruba Vs. Igbo thing so Lets forget the "Yoruba or Jonathan would burn" angle, NOTHING GO HAPPEN IF TINUBU IS ARRESTED AND LOCKED UP FOR GOOD.

Let me just also add that the MAJOR reason we dont have grass-root developments in Lagos (go and see how pathetic the feeder/street roads in Lagos are) is because:

1.) Most of the LGA chairmen are "selected and imposed" by Tinubu

2.) These LGA chairmen have to pay as much as 40% of their direct monthly allocation to Tinubu so, where is the money to do street road projects or equip classrooms going to come from, if you factor-in individual corruption of these LGA chairmen themselves?  grin (if they dont pay, Tinubu would finance their removal just as he tried to do to Fashola when he decided he was going to stop the Billions he has to pay Tinubu every month from the State's allocation). Even now, the weight of this blackmail is making Fashola dip his hand into the state's coffers, to steal money so he can pay-off "The GodFather" Tinubu or gets removed from office!

3.) As it is now, Lagos is deeply enslaved by Tinubu, he chooses anyone he wants to be LGA chairman and they know they must pay him whatever he demands. This is corruption at its highest level, no meaningful dividend of democracy can come from such arrangement

4.) Atiku was the one that paid the "party-registration fee" of A.C and he has the "Certificate of Registration" in his hand.
Now, Tinubu has finally "HIJACKED" the party from Atiku by registering (or re-registering it grin ) it with a new Name (A.C.N) and Tinubu paid and collect the Party's Registration Cert.

Now imagine what we will go through in the next four years, now that Tinubu has assumed full control?

That Tinubu is a Mafia Boss and he uses Assassinations, blackmail, intimidation and harassment to force money out of government officials and then uses same ill-gotten wealth to finance outrageous impeachment on public officials.
HE SHOULD BE PROPERLY INVESTIGATED, HIS SOURCE OF STUPENDOUS WEALTH EXPOSED AND JAILED FOR A LONG TIME.

This is not about PDP, or Jonathan or Atiku, its about taking down corrupt and evil individuals who stunt development in our land, one after another, IN ANY ORDER! It does not matter who came first or who was jailed last! J-A-I-L THEM IS ALL WE NEED.

BTW: Ignorant people will continue to kill themselves over one politician or the other, they support, while their families and those around them are ruined by the same politician! grin grin grin Very funny, ignorance is truly a disease shocked shocked
I know these things first hand, l have direct access to some of these LGA chairmen and l hear their complaints and they feel helpless somehow!

With all these sad and unhappy stories i keep reading on here about marriage (both in 9ja and abroad), i keep wondering if there is ANY marriage that remains happy after 5-10 years. It's all sad sob stories all the way.

@Poster

Women will always be women (ingrates). Na one of those things!
Hmmm,  l dont think "all" women are ingrates!
There is no "one cap, fits all" in this type of relationship wahala though it gives course for worry seeing the way our Nigerian marriages are "exploding" like da-bomb once it gets to the West!
There are "cost and benefits" to everything (decisions, actions, e.t.c ) thing in life.
If our women decide to trade "marital security" for "western rights" in their marriage, then it a choice.
The "cost" of course is felt by a broken home (single motherhood) and the children that are made to suffer emotional and psychological trauma that no amount of money or gifts bought for such children can compensate for.
God who institutionalized marriage and thought it wise to have a "Father and Mother" in  a family is certainly not dumb, is HE?
Maybe HE would have allowed men to be able to conceive and have children if he thought they could do it alone!

"No Civilization can be destroyed from the OUTSIDE except it first destroys itself from the INSIDE"
I hope we Nigerians are not destroying our civilization right now, thinking it is freedom! huh huh

Food for thought!

I think "Admin" should help me, that post was just too long cry
Family › Re: I Regret Bringing My Wife Abroad by lastpage: 3:22am On Jan 08, 2011
Hmmmmm,
Apart from someone called "cougar", most contributors here are either speaking out of ignorance or pure mischief (and l dont mean to be rude or sanctimonious; l will actually apologize ab-initio, if l come out that way)

First, like cougar pointed out, most of these "imported wives" are long term relationship that developed from Nigeria before most guys travels out.
See it this way, we all like to go back to our "comfort zone" and when you want to make a life-changing decision like marriage, you will naturally go back to that lady you have been comfortable with, your Naija sweetheart!

Again, a few people have questioned the truth in the poster's story simply because they dont understand how certain things work.
For example, have we ever asked ourselves: How come women/wives seem to get the heads-up more in the western world while it is the opposite in Nigeria? Is it that the men just became "lazy overnight" when they marry or get to the "West"?
Or could it be that African men face some institutionalized challenges in the west, that their wives dont face and together as a family, they decided it is "easier" to educate or "PUSH" the wifey ahead, for the good of the couple/family? Just reflect on these things first.

For anyone that has been close to Nigerians awaiting their "paper", you will observe that as a couple, their Social benefits paid into the wife's account, on behalf of the family! That is the way the "West" is, they trust the women more than their men, to manage the family (its an old tradition).

For those insulting the poster's friend as being lazy, l did not see any evidence of such conclusion from the story so, buzeegee and co should not jump to conclusions.
But then, what is wrong if you "prop-up" your wife, if she has the best chance of survival (relatively) between the two of you? I have seen men who opt to work few hours, l have seen those who even opt to look after the "home and kids" because the wife is better employed with better pay, than the husband and in fact, the whole wage of the husband is only fit to pay their child-minder (when they both go to work) and they both reasoned that the husband will do a better job looking after his own children, than the minder!
Its a question of "agreement, understanding" and remaining faithful to such agreement!

Now, back to the poster's story.
Let's be honest with ourselves: Nigerian marriages are in tatters in the West. Thats the home truth.
Statistically, about 75% Nigerian marriages have "completely FAILED" in the West (Europe and Americas).
The next 15% is struggling with a lot of hatred bottled-up between the spouses and it is because of the "Nigerian stigma"  they are trying to avoid (like how will people view it that Pastor and his wife are heading to court for divorce?!  grin ), that they still "stay under the same roof".
That 15% are just marriages by NAME only, not by function.

Then there is the "heavenly 10%" that is the dream of any couple!
These ones are blessed and are the envy of anyone, any day! They are proper marriages in every sense of it.
If yours belong to this select category, you're blessed. Please cherish and nurture it, its getting very rare!

The question we should be asking is WHY? WHY do some "heavenly marriages" by couples who obviously are in love, suddenly hit the rocks once they relocate abroad?
I have seen too many of these types: Husband and wife are successful while in Nigeria and just to better their children's future, they decide to relocate abroad and before you could say 'Jack', the marriage is destroyed and dead!
I bet everyone on this forum can point to one or more of this example! Question is W-H-Y?

I wont go into too much details because you will get bored and some dont have a very tidy "attention span" to read long discourse but let me offer a summarized hindsight:

* Two people eventually decide to marry because they have reached a level of relationship where "standards, codes, ethics of behavior" are established and agreed.
* Based on the above, each party to a marriage has "basic expectations" from the other party.

* The marriage is "contracted" based on these mutually established rules.
Like any "contract" you cannot vary the conditions after the agreement has been signed.
You have to dissolve it first (divorce?) and then probably re-establish a fresh contract!
Now, whatever the "agreed rules" are, is immaterial, the important thing is that both have agreed to be bound by it otherwise, l am yet to see an angry man that is complaining about a lady's behavior (and vice-versa), walk to the alter to get married under such condition! shocked shocked

This is where most marriages or wives imported abroad develop K-LEG!
One or both parties VARY EXPECTATIONS (rules, codes, ethics of behavior, rules of the contract)

You can now begin to adduce reasons for one or both parties, varying the expectations and you wont be wrong.  A few examples:

#Is it the hardworking husband who is used to being served dinner while watching TV (in Nigeria) and when they get abroad, the wife requires he gets to the kitchen and serve himself or wash his plates or even cook his own food? Did i hear you say tufiakwa?

Is it the wife that is used to the husband paying for everything (as Naija man concern) while she shops till she drops or goes on holiday every summer, only to get to "Abroad" and is now faced with the reality of having to "contribute" (at times, more than 50%!) to house finances by working a 9-5 job? Surely, expectations have been varied here, Nnna, this is not how we use to do before in Nigeria! grin

During courtship, most couples would have had a spat or another between themselves and it gets resolved amicably, at the worst, with the intervention of good friends/family. Most times, the man may even be guilty and the wife is expected (as per culture) to apologize first and the man would now pull-out all stops to compensate her for being a good wife!
It is a taboo to slap your husband or arrest him with "eeke Police" in Nigeria!
In the West, if your husband annoys you, the "right thing" to do is to dial 911 (Police will arrive faster than you think  grin ) and you would teach him a lesson he will remember for the rest of his miserable life grin Did l see expectations changing again? I can see some men scratching their heads right now shocked huh

Or in similar cases, like the case of this Poster who could have been used to giving his partner "house-keeping" allowance but when they got to the "West" and are still struggling to settle down, the little that the government assists them with, is paid into his wife account and thus, it is the wife that would now give him "house-keeping" allowance  grin and probably decide how it is even spent! Did l hear you say "impossicant"? Well, take it or leave it, thats how it is done in the west! Expectations have just been varied!

In conclusion, "some can cope with these "variations in agreed expectations" better than others. The severity of the variation also defers.

Some people (especially men) are very traditional and its even worse if you're completely formed, behaviorally, before going to the West since its difficult to "teach an old dog a new trick"  grin
THEY CANT JUST ADJUST to the variations and before you know it, disaster strikes!

Can Nigerian couples be more understanding towards each other? MAYBE
Are we very vindictive and will use "encountered opportunities" in the west to violate and in-dignify our spouses? Most likely

My advise:
If you are the very traditional man that holds on onto our Nigerian culture, morals and expectations of a wife, STEER CLEAR of obodo Oyinbo with your wife!
S-I-M-P-L-E-s  grin grin grin grin grin

@eku bear
Dude, of course everyone wants manufacturing in Nigeria too. But you cannot manufacture (competitively) w/o roads and light. China invested in infrastructure first to support manufacturing. Nigeria has not. . .
Your statement is very true and correct; in every letter of it.
This "development" works hand-in-hand.
Elected Government will provide the enabling environment while private entrepreneurs will catalyze the industrial revolution.
By not playing its own part, "govt" is making it less attractive for individuals to take the plunge and be guaranteed at least, a 50% statistical success rate!

This is one of the reasons we need "Leadership" that understands the "basics" of economics.

@notcorrupt.
Let me encourage you further!
Even One Million Naira is a "liveable wage" in Lagos!
Add you would not be living poor, believe me.
The attractive part of it is that that wage could double within three years! grin
Its not like in the U.K or the West generally where "salary increment" are done in very regulated, tiny notches cry cry
Av seen weekly wage increased by 46.97GBP annually!
If it were in Nigeria, Salary increase will normally take the form of 15% - 25% of total wage, thats the way we negotiate! grin

Like some have suggested, get determined, (if you really want to) but it will be nice if you also have a "Plan B", just in-case things dont work as planned (Remember, no one can predict NEPA or PHCN as we now know them! wink grin )

Have a blessed year sir.

While l hold no grudge against the "poster" for wanting a #2million/month job in Nigeria (i think its his right and choice), a few things struck me, from the contribution of others!

While every attempt has been made to suggest to the poster that by virtue of his education, wealth of experience and exposure, HE SHOULD COME HOME AND BE AN EMPLOYER OF LABOR rather than be looking for another person/firm that has taken the risk and struck it big in Nigeria, the poster is obviously so focused on being an "employee", an expensive one at that! shocked shocked

This brings me down to the mentality of the average Nigerian: WE HATE RISK BUT WE LOVE MONEY, BIG AND CHEAP!
Not many people earn 8Grand/month in the U.K, despite the relatively higher cost of living in the U.K (about half of that will definitely go on taxes, mortgage and utilities) not to mention earning it in a "cheaper" Nigeria. They are the exception, not the norm.

A few years ago, everyone was castigating the Chineese,Japan and "Taiwan" was an acronym for "substandard an fake" goods.

Today, they are the 2nd and 3rd biggest economies in the world!
THE QUESTION WE SHOULD BE ASKING OURSELVES IS: HOW DID THEY DO THAT?

And dont let us once again hide under the excuse of blaming government! "WE" are the government because those "micro decisions" each individual Nigerian makes (home and abroad) is what dictates the future of this country and that is governance!

The answer to the "big question" is very small indeed: MANUFACTURE!, MANUFACTURE!!, MANUFACTURE!!!

China manufactures about every and anything!

They did not get it right the first day but persistently stuck to that ideology: BE AN EMPLOYER, CREATE EMPLOYMENT!!

This is where Nigeria's development will continue to be stunted until we have a change of mentality, especially those of us that have "seen how its done" outside. We are a nation of "spend-spend, buy-buy, consume and consume"!
In a country where "manufacturing and industrial estate warehouses" suddenly begin to get converted to Churches, at an alarming rate, then you know that economic collapse is just a question of "how quickly"

I wish the poster and other capable people like him would have a re-think: You "choice" is crucial to the survival of this country!
It takes one man to start a revolution but it takes a whole generation to fulfill it.

We must revive our sense of Nationalism and downplay our "personal interest".
Well, maybe thats why we are Nigerians grin
Just thinking about how we got here.

It is macabre when peeps resort to GUTTER LANGUAGE and INSULT ANYONE that does not share their ill-conceived opinion!
I did not say people did not rejoice when Abacha died, l said "We should not wish death for anyone" and many people have shown the futility and ignorance behind such wish!
OBJ will die when he will but what you cannot guarantee is if YOU, yes YOU, would outlive him
When the time of an evil being is up, the people rejoice!
Its different when "self appointed Saints" kill an evil man/wish him dead, it becomes wickedness! (Remember when David cried when his avowed enemy was killed and the news was gleefully broken to him?)

More importantly, since we are gladiators when it comes to acidic criticisms, l have thrown the challenge and its open to all those who wish OBJ to "fall down and die NOW":

LIST JUST FIVE THINGS YOU HAVE DONE TO IMPROVE YOUR COUNTRY NIGERIA

Oya, lets go.
If you have nothing to show, thats still fair enough, use the remaining days of your life to make amends, dont use it to wish death on your enemies

BTW: No need for vulgar name-calling; remember l did not insult anyone with my post or call people names!
Cheers

Hmmmm, once we hear someone has a misfortune, most people jump up and celebrate!
The danger here is that none of us know whether we would even be around tomorrow or whether this same OBJ that collapsed will attend our burial?
Think about it a little? Who has power over life, to give and to take at will?

I understand the animosity towards OBJ and rightly too BUT lets be careful when we point fingers, so that the other four is not pointing at us! lipsrsealed
NO sinner shall go unpunished!

I wish someone will open a thread that says "In five sentences" TELL US WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO IMPROVE NIGERIA
At over 70yrs, if OBJ collapses, that should not be NEWS at all!
How many of those venting venom here have reached that Biblical age-wish of "two Score and a Ten"?
Someone's death is not worth "jubilating over" after all, WE DONT KNOW WHAT WILL BE SAID, WHEN YOUR TURN COMES grin grin

Wish everyone a peaceful, purposeful and prosperous 2011.

Excuzeme,
if you are who l think you are, l will come to your area on Tuesday and help you rectify the situation AT NO COST.
Let me know by Monday if you have not corrected the problem.

I understand how you feel and l think you should just understand that we are all different.
Some will do it for free, others would charge a fee, though it should be reasonable.
We all benefit from each other as Samma has said and thats the whole idea behind a forum.

Merry Christmas to all on the forum. Happy Birthdy to Oga Badaru.
Culture › Re: Stolen Benin City Mask To Be Auctioned In London For N1.25b by lastpage: 8:04pm On Dec 22, 2010
@Elrazur
Goodluck with the whole petition thing. In this country and under English law, I very much doubt there is anything illegal with the auction. As far as it goes, someone paid for it legally and in good faith when it was bought. As it stand, the person of family are now selling it in return.

I am not sure there is any law they broke in that process,

This what I was trying to say as per private collectors and some art stuff.  I mean, it will be a crime now if this was the Mona Lisa (??) or something as it is more or less a state property and cannot be own by one person.
Firstly, Let us ALL agree that the mask in question and other historical artifacts like its type BELONGED TO THE BENIN KINGDOM

Secondly, Let us recognize that there was war and being weaker, Benin Kingdom lost and was pillaged by the Brits! Being weak does not equate to being wrong!
Thirdly, let us reason that when you "TAKE" something without the owners permission, whether it is two hours ago or two hundred years ago, IT IS CALLED STEALING!
Fourthly, Stealing is a crime, against an individual, people or against a state. The thief is the criminal (Britain), the owner is the victim (Benin Kingdom)

Now that we are clear about the basics, it saddens me me greatly, to read the comments of some of our citizens here-in, especially the "exposed" ones who live in among the thief (UK  grin ) and elsewhere overseas!
Some said since we could "take care of the artifacts", its better the Brits sell it
Other said we have not tackled Malaria, we are talking about retrieving our stolen Mask
Others even said we need to tackle corruption first before we can ask for our Mask! Has Britain been completely free of corruption or is the expense scandal different from what our "Sin-nators" are doing?
Someone even proposed to "sell all his family" to Oyinbo!

I appreciate the Brits in certain areas as Buzeegee has espoused but please, they are not perfect and we are also are not!

Its like "poor people/nation" have no human rights, abi?
Here we have a "National heritage", our history (if you dont know where you are coming from, its gonna be difficult to know where you are going!), something other nations take pride-in and people pay to go watch it as tourist, and we are crying about Malaria and dusty relics, e.t.c

There is a problem engendered by poverty, not just the physical, abject poverty hat has ravaged Naija in the last four decades, but mental and spiritual poverty! Poverty of the psyche!! It makes people loose all shred of humanity in them and forces their attention on MUNDANE, BASIC SURVIVAL!
This is our problem.

I beg anyone to show me ANY LAW, ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD that says that A STOLEN ARTICLE BECOMES THIEVES PROPERTY, TO DISPOSE AT WILL AND THAT IF YOU BUY A STOLEN ARTICLE, ITS HAS NOW BECOME YOUR VALID PROPERTY!Whether bought in good fate or not! Yes, show me!!

The best that can happen when you buy a stolen property in good faith is that the "Original thief", who sold the article to you (using deception) has to reimburse you for cost that you paid BUT the article still remains a STOLEN ARTICLE and by law MUST be returned to the original owner (RESTITUTION)

I am not a Lawyer but l pay attention a little bit grin

Signing a petition is "stating our displeasure" at the planned sale. It shows we are "aware" of the injustice and we speak out against it, whether we can achieve our aim of getting it back, legally speaking, is another kettle of fish BUT to keep silent is just to say that we dont even even know our left from our right at 50years!
I am not saying that artifact is our "biggest problem or only problem" BUT it is one of our problem 'cos its part of or heritage.
I dont even approve 'scamming them' like they just did to us, l think "petitioning" is one of the legal ways we may "ask for our right".

Its so sa-aad what poverty has made of our mentality, as NIGERIANS!

@Ranks007
What do you call a man that wanted to use his first son for money rituals!!!!

If not for my mum?
Hi Ranks007,
I have heard stories like this before, mostly hearsay!
Like they say someone turned into a rat or somebody's 'blockus' was stolen or one bird came into a primary school and steals school children! grin grin
I am not questioning your integrity in anyway, if you know what l mean!

My question is: Do you really know for SURE (as in PROVEN, not from stories from your Mum's side only) that YOUR FATHER actually attempted to use you, HIS BLOOD SON, for money rituals?

Again, when PARENTS fight/separate/divorce, the "parent" with the kids have a reputation for inciting the kids or poisoning their mind against the other parent, mostly for revenge and to make the children "dislike" the other parent; a kind of get-even.

In this kind of scenario, the truth will only come out when the kids are grown-up and can really understand the "politics" of separation/divorce OR when new evidence and opportunity allows the other parent to "put forward or state their own side of events as they happened", to the grown-up children!
I ask because as a father right now, my kids, especially my first born, holds a "special place" in my life that nothing can compare with, it is unthinkable that such thought, even if planted by the Devil himself, in a person, would ever cross a "father's mind"!
Not to mention actually trying to put it in motion huh huh huh angry Its sounds out of these world angry

I really feel your pain, if these event really transpired in your life as a child, l wish you could feel the joy that others feel, when they talk about their fathers (even those that didn't know him that much!
May God bring peace beyond human understanding, into your life and repair the "damage" between you and your father.
