None taken. Exactly, I was lucky to have a mom like mine. Women today are too lazy. My mom would foot the bill before my dad returned home, and my dad wasn't a bum. An average naija girl don't want to work or hustle. That's why a lot of women today want an already made man, so they can sit at home and do nothing. And even if they're working will still hoard their salary at the detriment of the home.
Only God knows the circles in which you move. undecided An average Naija girl doesn't want to work??! shocked So all those ones we see running their own shops, catering outfits, working in banks, insurance companies, pharmacies, hospitals, teaching in schools, sewing new clothes or designs for their clients etc....are what? TravelRe: Immigration Suspends $90 Biometric Visa On Arrival Policy by LaudableXX:
tsmith:
Yes, Some countries charge for visa on arrival, however this was different. Travellers had already paid for visas, the biometric was an additional charge (plus a $20 administration charge), neither were they pre-informed. Only animals in jungle implement changes like we do in Nigeria. Such shambles!!!
ttmacoy:
The issue isn't the fee, it's the manner in which it is being implemented with people caught unawares after arriving.

Such a policy should be properly communicated (if only we can maintain up to date government websites) so people know ahead and can decide if they still want to travel to Nigeria or not.

Some people will even think it's just immigration officials truing to shake them up and not believe it's a true government policy.
johnkent:
These folks are not paying for visa on arrival. They’ve already paid and obtained a Nigerian visa at a consulate overseas. Everywhere in the world, no one charges for biometrics at the point of entry. I’ve been pretty much all over the world and I”ve never had to pay for biometrics. I’ve paid for visa on arrival upon arrival in some Caribbean countries but that was because I didn’t have a visa and the fee is usually about $10-$20.
XX01:
After paying almost $200 for visa, you will land in Nigeria and be asked to pay a further $110? It's wrong. It should be strictly for those that need visa on arrival in Nigeria and should be based on what the home country charges not a blanket fee.
tiredoflife:
Oga this is not visa on arrival
Is after u have a valid visa
U land in Nigeria
They still want to do biometric on u
And u will be charged another $90
Noted. undecided Thanks for the correction. But my response was based on the OP's article which stated that: "The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), has suspended the collection of $90 biometric Visa-On- Arrival policy it introduced about two weeks ago at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos...." My initial understanding was that those applying for visa on arrival, would pay the $90 USD, while foreigners with an already valid visa, were just charged a $20 USD processing fee.
TravelRe: Immigration Suspends $90 Biometric Visa On Arrival Policy by LaudableXX:

The way it was explained to me was visa on arrival was only available to people doing business in Nigeria. I got a visitors visa before leaving for Nigeria. It was a pain in the ass. There are only 5 of these OIS Services in all of the US. I had to buy a plane ticket and fly to one of these offices. I spent an actual 10 minutes in their office just to pay $90 for them to take my fingerprints. It was ridiculous. Everything else was done online including paying for the visa. It almost cost me as much to get the visa as it did flying to Nigeria. Not a good way to increase tourism in Nigeria.
In how many places in Nigeria, does the American consulate issue US visas? Are there up to 5? And do you know the stress it takes to get a US visa, on a Nigerian passport? It is also a blo*dy pain in the ass.
TravelRe: Immigration Suspends $90 Biometric Visa On Arrival Policy by LaudableXX:
AreaFada2:
Guy visa on arrival is different. In this case of 9ja people already paid for visa and the processing fees in their country and have a visa in their passport before coming to Nigeria.

For a UK citizen coming to visit his Nigerian in-laws for example, immigration fee, embassy fee and processing fee of outsourcing company for a visa to just visit can be over £350 to £400! Enough to pay for 3 days holiday break in Morocco covering both flight and hotel. No visa needed. So how can that visitor persuade his friends to visit Nigeria (to see Eyo festival in Lagos, Igue festival in Benin, Argungu festival, Ofalla Festival in Onitsha, Osun Festival or to visit Obudu Cattle Ranch or Yankari G. R.) instead of Tunisia, Morocco or Balearic Islands?

Also remember that most foreigners coming to Nigeria have ties with Nigeria : spouse of a Nigerian, grandkid of a Nigerian, mother of a Nigerian, etc.

Many are even Nigerians but cannot get booklet at 9ja embassies/High Commissions that issue passport in their country of residence. Some may not know that they can get a TC instead.

There are many countries serious about tourism and attracting foreign dollars. Like Morocco and Tunisia. They let Westerners come in visa free even though such gesture is not reciprocated. They just want rich Westerners to come in and spend hard currency. Just show accommodation/hotel booking proof, enough money to cover stay, etc. Their citizens on average live a better and longer life than Nigerians. We need to be pragmatic, not dogmatic.
Oga, Nigerians wishing to visit the UK, also pay different fees for different classes of visas, when they want to visit. For an ordinary single entry visa, it is slightly over 200 USD. sad And at some foreign embassies, you cannot pay visa fees in Naira, even within your own country. If you want a refund, they deduct all they can from what you initially paid, before returning a fraction of the fees to you, at official rate.

Please let us stop waving the tourism flag as an excuse, especially since foreign countries that are serious about tourism, do NOT give Nigerians any special concessions. sad Any welcome mat meant for tourists, is hardly ever extended to Nigerians. The minute they see that green passport, another story kicks in and you are scrutinised to an inch of your life, as if you came to their country on an offensive mission. angry

As a Nigerian tourist, apply for a visa at some embassies, without producing an invitation letter or evidence of hotel accomodation already fully paid....the way they would eye you, and proceed to bounce you & your passport, you will feel sorry for yourself. undecided Yet in some cases, such requirements are not imposed on those who carry foreign Western passports, at the same embassies. If you see the hardships inflicted on Nigerians, because of our green passports at some of these embassies and at their entry points, you would not feel sorry for their nationals when they decide to visit Naija, and are given similar treatment. sad No need for long story.

So why is everyone now complaining about NIS doing the same thing, a number of other nations have been doing for the past few years?

LukeSkywalker78:
Like seriously. I've been dating a girl for sometime now (past a year) and we are getting pretty serious. Anyways yesterday I wanted to see her and I gave her a call. She asked me to come over to her house. I told her I wanted to take her out and she agreed. As I got there, her friends (besties?) Came over and said they wanted to drop by. As they understood what was going on, they said they wanted to tag along. We agreed and went to Captain cook. We ordered and these friends were ordering like ther was no tomorrow. Even my GF asked if what they were ordering wasn't too much but they ignored her and kept doing their thing. Afterwards, they asked me (again) to buy them takeaway. I didn't have much money on me to buy takeaway so I had to buy them Captain Cook bread for each of them. I was so drained that I'm still recovering. My GF has never done such. I was just saying " Shey awon elebi leleyi nihuh" ( Yoruba guys will understand ). I just wanted to know if all girl's friends are like this if they are taken out. I will never forget this. P.S: I'm not generalizing women o.
You made a few mistakes on this one bro', even though you had some really good intentions. cheesy

1). Mistake no. 1 was allowing her friends to tag along. shocked You could have told them to take a rain check and wait for another time. You know that line about "two is company, but three is a crowd?" Yep. You should have told them that, and left it there. If they feel offended, promise to get them a takeaway, of your own choice.

2). Mistake no. 2, was after you let her friends tag along, you allowed them to place orders for what they wanted. Wrong move. sad You should have gotten them a table, told them to sit down and then placed an order for them by yourself, based on your budget. Just go for the compact packs on the menu (e.g. small rice & chicken, or just chips and fish). Nothing fancy, just something you could afford. If they ask for anything more, tell them they can have it, as long as they are the ones picking up the bill.

3). Mistake no. 3 was not telling your girlfriend straight up when you invited her out, that you had a budget for the outing. undecided Once you do that, she would checkmate her friends and you would not have to do anything. In fact, she might suggest they drop off at a suya joint to enjoy a wrap of suya near the hostel, while both of you go on to visit a restaurant, to spend quality time. Once you are done with your meal, you pick up her friends on your way back to their campus. Nothing spoil wink. Always try to think out of the box, and take charge of the situation.
PoliticsRe: Obasanjo & Adebutu’s Fairytale Marriage Hits The Rock A Year After by LaudableXX: 2:19am On Jun 27, 2018
Triton1996:
+ OVER 1 BILLION NAIRA WEDDING CEREMONIES THAT GOT ALL SALIVATING GOES DOWN THE DRAIN!

Middle of last year May 11 and 13, 2017 to be more precise, in Lagos wouldn’t be forgotten in a hurry, as those were the 2 days when the families of Sir Kensington Adebutu and that of Chief Olusegun Aremu Okikiola Obasanjo, GCFR were joined in holy matrimony!

The families had done the native law and custom and then sealed it with the church stamp of approval at The Methodist Church of the Trinity, Tinubu, Lagos, on the Saturday, which was the 13th. Maybe that date itself by virtue of hindsight now, being the 13th was a premonition of a sort, of what was to come, humiliation and disaster......

The 2 personalities involved in the marriage were, Sir Adebutu’s daughter by name Georgina Temitope Oyepero Adebutu, a brilliant magistrate in Ogun State, an alumni of the University of Lagos and the University College London for her Masters, which she got with distinction. Tope was apparently one of the best students in all the schools she has ever attended.

Her husband, the businessman son of Chief Obasanjo, in the person of Abraham Olujonwo Ajani Obasanjo, who very much is not known about, other than that, he schooled abroad and is a businessman/farmer, works for his dad. With how things went, especially the super expensive and lush wedding ceremonies which had all the who-is-who in Nigeria in attendance, many had expected a roller-coaster of a marriage, which at most a year after, would be welcoming and celebrating babies and celebrating some other milestones, but alas, barely just one year after, dark clouds have poured stormy rains on what was once thought to be a match made in heaven ....

....... All through they had to stay in Jonwo’s room at his dad’s palatial home in Abeokuta, with the promise that they would move to their own place which was undergoing thorough refurbishment, a promise never kept! Just imagine also that, Jonwo the supposed husband usually just disappears without a trace, most of the one year of the supposed wedding. Much so that, his wife didn’t even know his whereabouts and wasn’t even in any type of contact whatsoever with him for lengths of time.

...... So if one can just desert his supposed home for lengths of time without a care in the world and without letting anyone, especially his wife know where he was and how he was faring, how would that person have had time then, to consummate the union and by extension get his wife pregnant, so they could have kidshuh So with him not consummating the marriage, maybe it was a deliberate action, from the get go as he had always known he wasn’t Interested, but only had the wedding for other reasons. Just imagine that Jonwo disappeared from where they were staying at a point, claiming to be going for prayers, only to return after days in fact 14 days after and upon enquiries about his whereabouts and not communicating at all, he got absolutely raving mad and threw away his wedding band & said he was done with the marriage!!!

A few days after this particular disappearance, wife asked husband to consumate marriage, to which he refused and then disappeared again for another 12 days! Imagine that from November 1, 2017 till 4 and half months afterwards, that’s in March of 2018, Tope never saw nor communicated with her husband, until he came to tell her that they weren’t compatible and everyone should find their levels and go their different ways!!!! Even when the wife discovered that she had Uterine fibroids and had to go have an operation to remove same, so she wouldn’t have issues getting pregnant and she tried informing her husband, he never responded at all, not to talk of wishing his wife well! Even after a successful operation to which he didn’t contribute a kobo to, he still never got in contact with his wife! So before, during and after her medical issues, no contact, no sympathy, no love whatsoever! What a human being! !!!

According to our findings, whenever Jonwo was around, it was like it was better that he wasn’t even around at all, for those were some of the most painful times for Tope, for it was abuse galore, without a stop. Just imagine a husband bad mouthing and referring to his own wife as fat, ugly, never do well, wouldn’t amount to anything, cancer and that you married her out of convenience! This is the same Jonwo who works for his father Chief Obasanjo and collects N100,000 (Hundred thousand Naira only) monthly.
Such stories try my patience! angry Are we supposed to sympathise with the couple, or advise them on the next step to take? shocked You bloggers want us to believe that throughout the time they were courting, the bride Temitope never knew that her proposed husband had such negative tendencies? Or she was not aware that he was capable of pulling disappearing acts like a Houdini? Which one? Abeg, make everybody divorce go im papa house, so that each person can go and hol' im mama brezz! undecided Marriage is not by force, but by choice. sad Even most of OBJ's older children are also divorced, from Gbenga Obasanjo to Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello etc. Nothing spoil.

But bad leaders are not limited to PDP alone, even the current governor who is an APC governor is doing nothing to develop the state.

If you weren't blind yourself, I'm sure you would have noted that the main point in your argument which I picked on was where you kept using the watery example about "hijab not making her a better lawyer" to drive yoir point.

Then returning to the main issue at hand, whether hijabs are permitted or not when she picked up the course is inconsequential here, my point and position is very simple; I don't see why it should be a big deal allowing anyone to exercise their personal beliefs by puting on a little head cover beneath their legal wig if that makes them more comfortable. Laws are made for men and not men for laws; laws can also be changed or adjusted with time.

Live and let others live, or have we become so bigoted and intolerant to the cultures of others in this country that we feel so disturbed and threatened over how a person far away chooses to wear their wig?... I would definitely have a problem if its a full covering hijab or the ninja type if you like, but what I see in that picture doesnt bother me one bit and I see no reason why that should bother anyone. Now if I must repeat your example, does it make her less of a lawyer if she has a head covering under her wig?
Nobody is becoming bigoted and intolerant. sad The bigoted and intolerant ones, are people like you who support those that unilaterally try to impose their own desires, wants, beliefs, views and dressing on a profession that has stated clearly, what is permissible and lawful in their dress code. undecidedThey create unnecessary and unwanted controversy just to have their way, like Firdaus did.

If anything should be changed within a profession, all members of such an association should be allowed to debate and vote on such changes. undecided It should not be one person creating illogical drama, simply because they want to have their own way.

While studying law for 5 years, she could have requested permission to wear the hijab as part of her lawyer's dressing, but she did not - only to throw a tantrum at the call-to-bar ceremony, right at the last minute, by insisting she would not go in without it. shocked It is such behaviour that disturbs the peace.

When a certain set of folks want others to accede to their request by force, even when they know that such requests or sentiments have no place within their profession, then we should all be wary. Tomorrow, lawyers who are traditional religious worshippers may decide to hang their charms and emblems of their religion round their neck, in order to be allowed to wear what they like, when appearing in court. undecided The freedom to swing your hand, ends where your neighbour's nose begins.

Law has been practised in this country for more than 50 years, and various female lawyers, SANS and judges from different religions have been produced, till date. sad None of them wore a hijab, including Aloma Mariam Mukhtar the former Chief Justice of Nigeria from July 2012 to November 2014. So why is hijab suddenly being waved around, and being used to create controversy and division, within the body of lawyers? You claimed: "what I see in that picture doesnt bother me one bit and I see no reason why that should bother anyone..." Let me laugh in Greek. Ever heard of giving someone an inch, and he takes a mile? huh That small thing you saw in that picture may be elongated tomorrow, into a big thing, until....God knows where it will stop. So yeah, your statement assuming that her insistence must be about her being better in her profession is a poor attempt at ridiculing her and her beliefs; it remains a pointless question which has no bearing on the issue.
Guy, I asked a simple question. sad If you do not know the answer, then please why not keep quiet or do some research? shocked Where is the ridicule in my post? Firdaus knew quite well before she decided to study law, that hijab was NOT accepted as part of lawyers' dressing, for court appearances or call-to-bar. Yet, she decided to wear it, and throw tantrums on the day of the call-to-bar ceremony. If her belief was so important to her, then she should not have joined a profession that will not allow her to wear a hijab, which is crucial to her beliefs. undecided She could have opted for another profession, where it is legal or acceptable to wear hijab as part of the uniform. Now do you understand this small issue, or do you want to continue arguing blindly?

Where was it written that hijab is not allowed in law practice? Have you taken your time to read about hijab? Don't mistaken hijabs for Niqabs please. No profession on earth can ban hijab has it hinders nothing whatsoever.
Guy, were you born myopic? shocked So what led to the Firdaus controversy? If it was allowed for female muslim lawyers to wear hijab as part of their wig and gown, why was Firdaus not allowed to enter the hall for her call-to-bar ceremony, unless she removes the hijab? Are you ok at all? undecided

Throughout the whole report and narrative, I haven't heard or read anywhere where it directly or indirectly claimed that wearing a hijab or anything at all will make her or anyone a better lawyer. You say you're just asking right?.. Could you be kind enough to tell us where you picked up that weird idea from to be asking this sort of pointless question?

People have personal lives and not everything we do in our lives is geared towards making us better in our profession. Like seriously, what sort of human doesn't know this?
It is not a pointless question. sad Firdaus refused to remove the hijab, so that she could be called to bar. She got rude and almost insulted Belgore, a former CJ who pointed out to her on that day, that the hijab was not part of the approved dressing for lawyers, so she should remove it, before she can come in for the call-to-bar ceremony. undecided With all the fuss she kicked up about wearing the hijab that day, and the resulting controversy from other people, I had to ask if wearing the hijab would make her a better, more efficient, or more effective lawyer? Or if wearing that hijab would make her a more intelligent lawyer? Do you get the point now, or do you just want to split hairs and clutch at straws? huh

After all the grammar they will still approve the "hair cover" alias "hijab". Look at the picture of Firdaus Amosa again and you will wonder what the noise is all about in the first place - is the black scarf underneath her lawyer's wig hijab? Hypocrites everywhere!
Well, what is it then? Firdaus herself called it a hijab. Was she dumb?

it's the way of dressing for muslim women which is very compulsory. So it's about her believe not her virtue or efficiency.
Again, you are dodging the question. sad Ok, if the hijab is compulsory for Muslim women, then why did she bother to study law, when she knew that hijab is not part of a lawyer's outfit? She could have studied another course that allows women to wear hijab under their uniform.

Far from it. And does not using hijab make her?
Exactly. So using it or not adds no value to her as a lawyer. So why make a fuss about using it? The wig actually provides adequate covering for the hair, not so?

You are a Christian, that's why you spew out the nonsense. Even the virgin Mary wears hijab, it's stated clearly in your Bible. The fact that you don't practice what's written in your Bible should not blind your consciousness that others must be allowed to practice their religion as its written down for them. The wife of King James (of popular King James version of Bible) of Scotland wore far better hijab than most Muslim women of nowadays. Get some sense and borrow some brain if you have none.
There is no verse in the Bible, that says Virgin Mary wore a hijab. sad Every drawing you see of her, is an artist depiction of the form of dressing that women wore, during those biblical period.

that is her identity as a Muslim. she feels more comfortably
You have not answered the question. Does the hijab or hair cover, make her a more efficient, more effective or a more intelligent lawyer?
