Your view does not equal fact. Just because you think it is a fact does not make it a fact. Before telling anyone to free themselves and see your version of truth, remove the specs in your eyes. You accuse me of having innate hate for Yoruba for speaking on act they do and I witnessed with my own eyes? Even the topic you provided to try and point the ibos as the aggression ironically, provide me right despite your intention was opposite. On that exact topic, despite the discussion was for Ibos and kiths, the Yorubas took it upon themselves to starting a commotions of insult towards Ibos which in turn turned the iboid of SS to insulting them, not even the Ibos of SE. On the topic, a man that used that avenue to insult Ibos was proved not to be from River State as he claimed. The account I remember because I've heard that account many times by Ibos during my debacle with them as prove of ijaws hate to ibos based on the account multitude of insults to ibo unprovoked on this website. That account has instigated multitude of arguments between Ibos and southern groups. On the topic it was proven he was not Ijaw. I'm not sure if he's Yoruba but the chances of that account belonging to a Yoruba than someone from another group is higher based on behaviors of yorubas when I was a higher active member. You provided evidence of what I spoke of while deeming your views as fact and the truth. The hypocrisy.

You have repeatedly accused IPOB as the agressors when we are on a topic which shows otherwise. On the topic titled ipob sit at home: live updates also showed otherwise. It was the Yoruba that started the tribal banter and the ibosreacting to their hate. On the topic titled pictures of ipob worldwide showed otherwise. It was the Yoruba and an hausa/fulani who started the tribal banter. On the topic about ipob protesting for Kanu in Spain, it was again the Yorubas that started the tribal banter. This has been the same pattern of Yorubas since I can remember. Even in topics that has nothing to do with ipob, Yorubas equally use that avenue to insult ipob and Ibos. The topic titled Lai Mohammed rattled by journalist questions on corruption is evidence of such. Your own prejudice is blinding you yet you point fingers at me. How can you type that Yorubas are defending themselves when majority of topics on ipob have shown otherwise, some of whom are recent, one of which we're typing on.

There are tribal fights everyday on this website. An act the Yorubas are not innocent of. Have the Yorubas not fought with edos and other minorites especially regarding identity on this website. When I was more active, the culture part of this website was littered with past topics where Yorubas attacked edos continuously for disagreeing with the Yorubas description of didn't cousin and the origin of oduduwa. The topic created by an akoko edo personal addressing the description that they are Yorubas, the Yorubas attacked him for addressing the fallacy that's been used more than once about his people on this website. When adebanjo was addressed in inclusion of ijaw in oduduwa republic, did the Yorubas not attack us despite no provocation. To pretend that Ibos are the only set guilty of attacking others is once more, socially deceptive just as deceptive as pretending Ibos are the only guilty one in accusing others with opposing views. Anyone that opposes Yoruba are either called ipob or ibo. I have been a victim of that act by Yorubas many times and so have others.

You accuse me of being prejudice to your perceived version of truth because of your perceived opinion of my so called innate hate to Yorubas. On this entire topic, you've displayed your intense hate for Ibos and even tried to twist my reality to your own opinion of what is the truth therefore, shouldn't you been giving yourself that advise? Your own prejudice and intense hate for Ibos as shown by your act on this topic is what's blinding you.

Why are you still mentioning me regarding this discussion. I said I'm done with it. I don't need heresay on what is the truth. I have eyes and I have a good vision. My truth is what my eyes have seen. I've seen enough to know my conclusion is factual. If mentioning yoruba's act on this website since I've been a viewer and member means innate hate for Yorubas to you then thank you. I stand by that hate without an apology
There was absolutely no need for this long rant. sad You probably wanted to vent your hatred for the Yorubas, and thank goodness people can now see the contents of your mind, as well as what drives your thoughts, and respond accordingly. Hate kills! Get rid of it before it messes up your life. undecided

Now, you said that; "On this entire topic, you've displayed your intense hate for Ibos and even tried to twist my reality to your own opinion of what is the truth therefore, shouldn't you been giving yourself that advise? Your own prejudice and intense hate for Ibos as shown by your act on this topic is what's blinding you." Please show us in black & white exactly how I expressed hatred for the Igbo on this thread. sad You are an adult, and you really shouldn't tell such huge lies. It demeans you.

Finally, you claimed that "How can you type that Yorubas are defending themselves when majority of topics on ipob have shown otherwise,?" I can say that, because that has been the trend on most topics that involve both groups. You want to claim that you haven't seen it because you are so determined to paint the IPOB-Igbo as saints, ba? huh Ok, na you sabi. The truth is like smoke. sad It can't be hidden. And a thousand insults will never endear anyone to your cause or their own. Everyone can see that the only hypocrite on this thread is you.

You are just disgruntled because of 2 or 3 topics you have witnessed on NL. undecided I advised you before to go through more threads on this board (i.e. at least 50 - 100, not just 3 or 4 that you are stuck with), and do a content analysis of their posts. You have not done so yet. That is why you are stuck with this warped mindset of blame. May God deliver you from myopia. sad Grow up! Stop throwing tantrums...

And please kindly take your good self out of my mentions, by refraining from quoting me again. Or is that too much to ask? huh

Here you are trying to speak for MB and Yorubas yet asking a SS guy not to speak for SS.

Igbos you said are aggressors in the face of barbaric fulani and Bokoharam. You really must be retarded and delusional. Fulani will jam you or your siblings in the bush and teach you who are aggressors.
They did? When? Where? And how? shocked Stop telling lies, biko. I am not speaking for anyone, just stating the facts as I see them. sad You on the other hand have no facts, to support your stand. Right from your very first post, you claimed to be speaking for the SS. I had to remind you that there were many different ethnic groups in the SS, with different ideologies so your stand could not be taken as indicative of what each of those ethnic groups would do.

Where on this thread did I compare Igbo to Boko Haram or Fulani herdsmen? Must you lie to get your points across? shocked Haba! Make una fear God, nah! The Middle-Belt has suffered plenty barbarism from the North, so have they asked you for help like you claimed? Another big lie from from your end. Take am easy. It is clear to see that you are confused.

You just described yourself rather well by saying that "your convoluted dung-filled brain... fits your heinous propaganda." sad Who am i to disagree with you? Now that you have finally resorted to insults by saying "Fulani will jam you or your siblings in the bush and teach you who are aggressors." My answer is simple. I pray the same thing will happen to you, ten-fold. Say Amen....

What's the volume of imports thru Onne port? It doesn't even handle up to a tenth of the imports thru Tin Can Port, and that's even the most functional port in the South South. Much of the activities that happen at Onne are crude exports. The imports there are very limited. Lagosians complain of congestion at Apapa axis, yet the NPA and the FG doesn't want to give a boost to other ports to free Lagos. Or you think that if the South East importers had their way, they still be importing thru Lagos and spend millions hauling the goods all the way to the South East?

Talking about Airports, which airlines take off and land in PH and Enugu for international flights? How many destinations outside Nigeria can you go to straight from both airports? Enugu was even Stella Oduah that upgraded it otherwise it would have remained a local airport.
No sir. sad You obviously have not visited Onne ports in recent times. Take a trip down there and you will be shocked at the volume of activities going on. Saying that it doesn't handle up to a tenth of imports that come through Tin Can, is not just an exaggeration, but patently untrue.

In Q1 2017, 249 vessels called at Apapa port with a gross registered tonnage of 7,590,271MT. 335 vessels berthed at Tin Can Ports with a gross registered tonnage of 9,949,445MT. During the same period, 154 vessels berthed at Onne port with a gross registered tonnage of 9,966,204MT. This figure excludes crude cargo. Similar figures were recorded for Q2 in 2017. Onne port's gross registered tonnage increased to 10,990,311 from 184 vessels. This exceeded the gross registered tonnage recorded by Tin-Can port during the same period which was 10,109,158MT.

You can get the details here: http://nigerianports.gov.ng/ports-statistics/. Figures for 2018, have not been posted yet, but I expect to see this trend continue.

Yes, there is congestion at Apapa ports. Why? huh Because many importers prefer to consign their goods to Apapa, instead of Onne. If more importers started using Onne, the congestion would reduce at Apapa. It is all a matter of preference. It just appears as if the southeast importers just prefer Lagos. wink

As for Port-harcourt airport and Enugu international airport, foreign airlines use both airports. Ethiopian airline runs international flights to Dubai and other Asian countries from Enugu airport, with a stop over in Addis Ababa. Lufthansa, Air France and Emirates operate international flights from Port-harcourt airport. undecided

You wont believe that 5 months after landing my dream job with an international non-governemntal, within a short while i got along with all my colleagues (both Nigerians and foreigners) especially the admin staff who was part of the recriutment process.

Just yesterday, we got gisting, and she opened up to me that prior to the finalization of my recriutment, she was asked by the HR in the HQ to enter my full names on various social media, to see what my personality was like on the net with key reference to my posts, comments and interests.

I dared to ask her what would have happened if they had issues with my net-life. Guess what her response was; Though you emeged as the best candidate, but we sure would have re-advertised the position because of the sensitivity of the position you were to be recriuted for as we needed only a responsible social medialite which you managed to be.

This shocked me and made me more careful with my social media life. And i vowed to share this with my beloved Nlanders especially job seekers as recriuters now watch-out for what you do on the social media.

I know similar stories has been narrated on this forum but I want the world to hear my tale of regret and sorrow.

For nine years I've struggled to eliminate family interference from my home but unfortunately I've not been able to. My father in-law and his wife call the shot and when I resist my wife promptly takes side with them claiming that I'm being disrespectful.

From the onset I pleaded with my own family to allow us chat our own path, learn from our mistakes and grow together in love. This has backfired on me because my wife did not do same with her family.

I can't consider breakup, I don't want my kids to grow in a broken home. The problem is worse presently only God can show me the way out of this mess.

Some might say I was weak from the onset, but some women can be manipulative and cunning. I am in a cage right now, I desperately need help before the worst happens.
I wish you had given us more info. sad You just said: My father in-law and his wife call the shot, and when I resist my wife promptly takes side with them claiming that I'm being disrespectful. How exactly does your father in-law and his wife call the shot? shocked When you resist, how does your wife express her displeasure when she says you are being disrespectful? Does she get insulting and quarrelsome? Or is she moody and dishes out the silent treatment?

Are your in-laws feeding you and your family? Do they pay your house rent? Or do they pay your kid's school fees? shocked

You see, 'respect begets respect, and respect is earned, not given.' Let your wife understand that. Tell her that if they cannot reciprocate your respect, by keeping their nose out of your business, then you will have nothing to say to them from henceforth.

There is something called passive aggression. sad If your in-laws call you, ignore them or postpone any request they have for you. If they want you to do something in 3 days, tell them it will take 3 weeks because you have other things to do. If they insist or try to bully you, say nothing, but make sure you do not comply with their demands. undecided

And if your wife decides to nag you about it, let her know that her nagging shows that she values her own family more than you, so she is free to go there and stay with them. sad If your wife has common sense, she will backtrack and watch her steps.

Finally, do you have sisters? I mean vocal, protective ones? shocked Explain what is going on, and enlist their help. They will be the ones to show your wife 'small pepper,' any time your in-laws decide to interfere, and they will blame her for everything. If she is wise, she will use her head and curtail her parents' interference, or put a stop to it. When they are dishing out their brand of discipline on her, don't interfere and don't take sides with your wife. Let her know that she brought it upon herself, so if she wants your sisters to stop, she should behave herself. undecided

A wise woman will always want to build her home.....

Can you show me any other country with a population of over 150 million that has only 2 active international airports?

Igbos travel a lot. They are the most travelled Nigerians mostly for business. Apart from business, Igbos are basically everywhere in the world. For that reason, there is a good reason for a functional airport in the South East.

You also need to understand that the functionality of the South South Sea ports is mainly because of crude exports. Most of our crude oil leaves Nigeria thru Onne and Calabar ports but over 90% of the imports arrive thru Lagos ports, despite the fact that over ⅓ of those imported products are bound for South East and South South.

You can't take away that connection between South East and South South. Once the sea ports in the South South and the international airport in PH become fully functional, most Igbos doing business in the East will prefer to use them.
When was the last time you visited Onne ports? huh Cars, cement, household furniture and even all kinds of equipment are imported through Onne port every single day. Please check. The facts are in public domain. It all depends on the choice of the importer, which port to use.

The Port-harcourt airport is also operational, just like Enugu International Airport. International flights go on there. So there are 5 international airports in the country and not just 2, like you claimed.

thanks for the insight bro. I didn't know the complete story before.

at the end of the day the Ibo man lost AP because he couldn't meet the financial obligations not because OBJ just stepped in and stole it away from him. thank you!!!
You are welcome. There is also more info about the sale of AP's shares here;

It would be recalled that in Sadiq Petroleum emerged the core investor in the African Petroleum, by purchasing the 30% equity shares divested by the government, sometimes back in the year 2000. Former vice president Atiku Abubakar, was accused of selling the company to his long time business associate in the person of Peter Okocha.

This accusation gained wide acceptance, because of the enormous influence Alhaji Atiku Abubakar wielded in the privatization programme of the Obasanjo administration. It was argued that Atiku Abubakar could not have presided over the sale of government properties, without giving favourable consideration to his friends and business fronts that have, in one way or the other, financed the party that brought him to power.

However, Sadiq Petroleum ran into serious problem subsequently, when it discovered that some material facts were not disclosed as the time it bidded for those shares. This misrepresentation of facts resulted into a debt of about N26 billion owed to some banks and the National Petroleum Corporation of Nigeria.

Close watchers of the industry opined that Atiku Abubakar couldn’t have sold a company that is seriously indebted to his friend. Atiku was vindicated by this development. The former DG of BPE finally exonerated Atiku, by an interview he granted in which he explained that it was not possible, for anyone to influence the sale of any company because of the manner the arrangement was structured.

Chief Peter Okocha, owner of Sadiq Petroleum protested and accused the Bureau of Public Enterprise of misleading his company by concealing vital information during the exercise. His protest got the Federal Government to constitute a tribunal of inquiry on the debt matter. At the end of the whole saga, Chief Peter Okocha was made to resign his chairmanship position and Sadiq Petroleum relinquished its shareholding in the oil marketing company. http://www.gamji.com/article6000/NEWS7257.htm

thank you!!! so the Ibo man couldn't raise money to run AP and the Yoruba man bought it from him WITHOUT the influence of Obasanjo. how Obasanjo influenced the process and stole AP from the Ibo man is what I'm waiting for that clown to come and tell us grin as if the Ibo man didn't get paid when he sold to otedola grin
Well, I don't know if Obasanjo influenced the process, even though there were rumours flying around. sad But after the shares were sold to the subsidiary of Afribank, NNPC went back to buy the shares using a debt-equity swap, because AP had been owing NNPC 10 billion before the shares were sold, and the new owners could not settle the bill.

So when the 30% shares got back to NNPC's hands, the National Council on Privatization (NCP) met, with a consensus that the controversial shares be sold by the BPE through a competitive bidding to Nigerians. sad

President Olusegun Obasanjo however stopped the sale of the affected AP shares to Global Fleet (i.e. Jimoh Ibrahim's company) due to the unsavoury reports received about the firm, at that time. The NNPC had acquired the equity interest through its staff pension fund in 2005 through a debt-swap of over N10 billion AP owed the corporation. This acquisition was subsequently gazetted, and slated for sale to the Nigerian public. Otedola eventually stepped in and bought those shares through his firm, Zenon. He later re-branded AP to Forte Oil. There was a lot of noise made about the sale, though. It was alleged at that time, that Atiku had shares in Sadiq Petroleum. undecided

I'm waiting cool
Maybe he is referring to Peter Eloka Okocha of Sadiq Petroleum, which was the first company to buy over African Petroleum's (AP) shares, to take control of the company as a core investor, when the federal govt divested from the firm. But Sadiq Petroleum ran into troubled waters shortly after the sale.

They claimed they did not know the extent of the liabilities on the neck of AP, when they bought over the company. After a while, Sadiq Petroleum could not meet its obligations, as per AP's operations. So they had no choice but to sell it off. They were supposed to inject whooping N5 billion ($50m) into AP, but could not raise the funds. They then sold the 30% stake they had bought from govt to Asset Management Company Limited (ASSEMAL), an arm of the defunct Afribank which had partly financed the acquisition. In 2005, the NNPC decided to go to the bank to re-acquire AP's shares through a debt-equity swap. It then advertised the sale of those shares again, so that a different set of core investors could be found. Those shares were eventually bought by Femi Otedola using his old company Zenon Petroleum and Gas, in a deal worth 17 billion naira in 2007.

Nigeria's Zenon buys African Petroleum stake

LAGOS, May 4 (Reuters) - Nigeria’s privately-held oil firm Zenon has acquired a 28.7 percent equity stake in rival African Petroleum (AP) Plc APET.LG for 17 billion naira ($133.28 million), a Zenon official said on Friday.

The shares were sold by state-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. (NNPC), which acquired them in a 10 billion naira debt swap in 2005.

“A deal was done yesterday after Zenon paid 17 billion naira and the shares crossed over to Zenon on the floor of the stock market today,” Zenon’s special projects consultant Femi Bakare told Reuters.

Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd is a big importer of refined products in Nigeria, which still relies on imports for its fuel needs despite being Africa’s top producer of crude oil. But its retail network is limited.

AP is one of the largest fuel marketers in Nigeria, but its fortunes have declined since the government sold a 30 percent stake in 2001.

Bakare said Zenon had the financial muscle and managerial capability to turn the company around.

Zenon, which also has interests in shipping, secured a $1.5 billion loan from 10 Nigerian banks in March to expand its business.

Traders said the acquisition will make Nigeria’s downstream oil business more competitive because Zenon will probably invest in hundreds of AP outlets across the country.

Nigeria’s fuel market, worth more than $2 billion annually, is dominated by a handful of multinational and local retailers including NNPC.

The government sold its 30 percent stake in AP to Sadiq Petroleum, but Sadiq decided to sell the stake to a unit of Afribank Plc AFRB.LG after accusing the privatisation agency of concealing AP debts worth 26 billion naira.

Throwback:
Onitsha does not open to the sea.

And I'm sure that whatever seaport from the coast leads into Onitsha by river, would need that river to be dredged.

Who has stopped that river from being dredged?

Let me ask you some honest questions.

How viable has Enugu international airport been since it started its international operations?

One thing I've noticed with Nigeria is that we prefer to use only one thing till it is destroyed and we move to the next new replacement.

Lagos has international airport because it was capital and remains commercial capital and it is cosmopolitan, Abuja has one because it is capital and a cosmopolitan city.

Kano has one for the North and hajj operations and it is a cosmopolitan city. PortHarcourt has one because it is the petroleum capital and also cosmopolitan.

I can understand lamentations about moving from Abia/Enugu to Lagos and vice versa. But one would think that both Airport and Seaport in PortHarcourt would be useful within its limitations to cater for those SouthEast traffic.

And if indeed there is some topographical limitations and bureaucratic limitations, why where they not addressed by a Southern federal government dominated by Ijaws and Igbos in the presidency, ministries and specific agencies that oversee these facilities?

Even till today, a SouthSouth Rotimi Amaechi is transport minister overseeing both Airports and Seaports.

How are we Yorubas to blame?
Rotimi Amaechi oversees the seaports, while Hadi Sirika who is Aviation Minister, supervises the airports. undecided But please take it easy. They will not see the message you are trying to pass across. They will only look for a way to bash the messenger.

Ojo Maduekwe was Minister of Transport in 2001. What was done about SE/SS seaports during his tenure? huh Instead, he decided to advocate for the use of bicycles. Kemafo Chikwe was former Federal Minister of Aviation from 2000 to 2003. Before then, she was Minister of Transport from 1999 to 2001. One good thing she did was to establish 24-hours port operations at the Lagos seaport. sadBut what happened to the SE/SS ports under her watch? Rotimi Amaechi will finish his own tenure soon, and the lamentations about the state of the SE/SS ports will still not be addressed, and they would continue to blame the Southwest for having a functional port.

Who is dishonest? You must be referring to yourself right? huh I didn't even see the 2nd post made by the OP, until now. I read the opening post, and that was what I made reference to. Igbos have never said its by force to align with them but by referendum. But in your heinously deceptive way, you will spin it to fit your horrendous hate. And yes they did complain of lack of support from SE even after years of aligning with the demons. I guess they are enjoying not being "scammed" by the barbaric north they aligned with instead.
What you call us insulting them is simple telling them how stupid their choice to align with the north was and its inevitable consequent of which they are getting the confirmation by themselves barbarically now since they were as foolish as your kind to have learnt from our words.
MB has never complained of lack of support from SE. sad So please stop this empty propaganda. When, were and how did the MB complain about lack of support from the SE? shocked MB has only complained of lack of support from federal govt and the security agencies, which have failed to stop the carnage. Attacks against the MB communities did not start today. It has been going on for years. undecided

The MB knows what the far North stands for, what they are, and they have managed to contain their antics for several years, without wailing to the SE. So what is your point? You just want to gloat over the misfortune of the MB? shocked How is the MB your frigging business or your headache, if I may ask? A thousand insults from your keyboard, will not make the MB align with your SE people. If it pains you so much, you can wail loudly for the next 10 years.

You guys are laughable, honestly. undecided In one breath, you complain & wail about how MB soldiers fought against your people during the civil war. In the next breath, you allege that they asked your SE region for help. Is this not the beginning of delusion? huh

Is your fight against doctors that collect money?

Does God really need your thanks? I mean..he's supposed to be God so I don't know how saying thanks changes anything.

Hope you know that you're paying the fireman indirectly through taxes.
I am not fighting doctors. sad There is no fight anywhere. I just don't know why you are dragging this 'thank you' issue with regards to the doctors. Many private hospitals in Lagos, Abuja, Port-harcourt and Calabar charge the equivalent of five-star hotel room rates, for ordinary daily admission within their wards, these days.

By the time they add the cost of consultation, drugs, treatment, surgery, dressing, nursing fee etc, it becomes a prohibitive figure. sad After paying all that, you still want me to give them free publicity online, by thanking them publicly? No way. shocked Did they do the surgery on credit, or did they offer admission on credit? No. So what kind of public thank you, do they need? huh The doctor has performed a service, for which he collected upfront payment, before even rendering the service. It is a Quid pro quo situation. So which kind of public 'thank you' is he entitled to again, on social media? Haba! shocked

The fireman is paid by taxpayers, but they also attend to those who do not pay taxes. undecided If you call them for help, will they ask you first if you have paid your taxes? shocked No! They just move in, and get the job done without asking questions, unlike doctors that must see your payment before commencing treatment. So that is why we thank and applaud fire safety personnel publicly, for a job well done. undecided

Lets assume a fireman saves your life, you won't say thank you because he's just doing his job?? undecided

Don't use that line of argument... Find another one.

Also who/what have him cancer? God? Devil?
Did the fireman collect money from me, before putting out the fire or climbing up to save me? So why won't I thank him? This is unlike the doctors who would have collected money upfront before consultation, admission, surgery and treatment. After collecting all that money upfront, what kind of public 'thank you' on social media, are they expecting again? Or do they want additional free publicity from me, so that they can attract more clients? No way. And yes, God is a Healer, not a giver of diseases.

Stupid cunts saying thrash they know absolutely nothing about. My sister has worked in 2 shipping companies one in Port Harcourt and the other in Lagos and told me about some of the restrictions they face with their port Harcourt shipments. Sometimes in those countries they don't have port Harcourt on their list of destinations meaning those shipments must come in through Lagos.

Also most large ships cannot berth in Onne port as it is obviously too shallow.
Onne is not too shallow. Please check. The Anchorage depth is 14m - 15.2m, while the draught alongside the quay is 12 metres, the outer channel is another 12.5m.

APM Terminals: Onne Port Welcomes Bigger Vessels (Nigeria) - The 4,500 TEU capacity Maersk Copenhagen called at APM Terminals’ West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) in Onne (Port Harcourt), Nigeria on December 3rd, becoming the largest vessel to visit the Eastern Nigerian port.

The port is located along the Bonny River near Port Harcourt in Rivers State, and serves major markets in East Nigeria and the Nigerian oil and gas industry. The Nigerian Port Authority was instrumental in making this a success, by widening the channel and removing some wrecks in the Bonny Channel.

The port call was a trial stop for Maersk Line’s weekly Far East-West Africa (FEW2) service, which is comprised of 22 West Africa-Maximum (Waf-Max) sized vessels that are equipped with on-board cranes and draft 12.5 meters (41 feet), are 37.4 meters (123 feet) wide, 249 meters (817 feet) long, representing the largest vessels that can currently be accommodated at West Africa’s major container ports. The weekly service links the ports of Busan, Korea; Shanghai, Ningbo, and Guangzhou, China and Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia; with Walvis Bay, Namibia; Apapa, Onne, Nigeria; and Luanda, Angola.

“We are very pleased with the arrival of the first 4,500 TEU vessel size to the West Africa Container Terminal at Onne. We are investing USD 30 million in the terminal to serve our customers more efficiently and safely, while installing the essential port infrastructure necessary for Nigeria’s economic future,” noted APM Terminals’ Africa-Middle East Regional Head, Peder Sondergaard.

APM Terminals - The investment reflects the company’s overall West Africa port modernization plan, designed to serve the market’s demographic growth and expanding middle class. According to a UN report released this year, Nigeria’s population is expected to grow to 440 million by 2050.

WACT, which is owned and operated by APM Terminals, has a current capacity of 212,000 TEUs, and will handle some 210,000 TEUs in 2013. Volumes at Onne have tripled in the past five years. The facility is located within the Onne Oil & Gas Free Zone which was established in 1996.

In Nigeria, APM Terminals also owns and operates the country’s largest container terminal, at the Port of Apapa, investing USD 200 million in upgrades since the start of operations in 2006. APM Terminals Apapa handled 618,000 TEUs in 2012, representing West Africa’s busiest container terminal. The company is also developing a new deep-water mega-port at the Badagry Free Trade Zone, 55 km (34 miles) west of Apapa, which would be the largest port in Africa and serve Nigeria’s growing economy.

In West Africa, the APM Terminals Global Terminal Network has facilities in Monrovia, Liberia; Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Tema, Ghana; Cotonou, Benin; Douala, Cameroon; Pointe-Noire, Republic of Congo and Luanda, Angola. https://www.dredgingtoday.com/2013/12/19/apm-terminals-onne-port-welcomes-bigger-vessels-nigeria/
