Beancounter93: 1.Nigeria's tax to gdp ratio is 6.1%
2.30% of taxable Nigerians are actually taxed...that's where all those taxes come from
3.Our budget is 10 trillion. For a nation our size, we need far more than that.
4.I am aware you pay tax, So do i...but most of us who are in the informal sector don't pay taxes. the average human hates being taxed. However, isn't it the responsibility of the goverment to ensure that every citizen is taxed and the money put to good use? That our tax to GDP ratio is comparatively lows echoes nothing but poor governance and lax laws. Furthermore, with its reputation, faith in the goverment is considerably low as nobody is sure where taxpayers money would end up at the end of the day. |

I am law abiding and pay my taxes and bills(just like every typical Nigerian), i belive this is universally what is expected of every good citizen and Nigerians are doing just that. The point is, the citizens are doing their best, while the goverments(past and present) on the other hand has failed miserabelly to shoulder its duties and responsibilities like its couterparts in other countries do. However, Its allover the news the massive protests that swept most developed countries due to lockdowns and movement restrictions, but none of that happened here. Goes to exemplify how patient Nigerians are. But despite all this what are we getting in return? Even a kid on the street could answer this. |

Even if we manage to get citizenship in white lands, racism would continue to be a thorn in our flesh. The best we can do is to keep praying & hoping things get better. New York tax to.gdp ratio is above 30%
There is a reason why one has modern firefighting equipment and one has ancient equipment.
But tell Nigerians we need to pay taxes
1. We are.poor
2. The politicans will loot the money ( and when you tell them it is their job to.see the politicans don't loot their money they then blame the Hausas).
No problem. Auntie Christine and Auntie Liu will give us another loan if we ask nicely And who told you Nigerians dont pay tax? You seem to have no clue. Federal civil servants pay income tax, companies are also taxed, and every single Nigerian pays V.A.T. Morever, FIRS generate trillions of naira annually for the goverment, but do Nigerians get in return? Your answer is as good as mine. |

abnot: We'll both agree that ghanians enjoy cheaper and stable power supply than Nigerians on one hand and the average ghanian city (accra, kumasi ) is safer than the average nigerian city. In the area of economic strength, output and prosperity Ghanians/Ghana is no match to Nigeria. Nigerian cities are more developed than Ghanian cities (Accra is the most developed Ghanian city).
The reason I'm emphasizing this is that prior to 2015 I had been to cities in europe , north america and two middle eastern cities and I was hearingso much about how nigeria was a shithole and how ghana was everything that Nigeria was not. Then 2015 came with my girlfriend moving to accra. I made many trips there and was disappointed probably because my expectations were high. I later got a job in 2016 that got travelling to banjul, monrovia, accra, addis ababa, nairobi , j'burg, cotonou, dar es salaam, maputo, luanda and dakar. Of all these cities only nairobi , j'burg and to some extent luanda impressed me. Nigerian cities of Lagos (particularly lagos island) and abuja were far ahead of these cities. In fact the locals in most of these cities still serve the europeans and from the hotel to the gym to the restaurants the locals were more like workers to the white people there. Nigerians own and run most of the businesses in Nigeria. In these countries the white man is still seen and regarded as the alpha & omega. In ethiopia the chinese run the show from sme to the big sectors. This experience made me respect the hardworking Nigerian man/woman more. If Nigeria had a better government the issue of security and power will not even be as pronounced as it is but amidst all these challenges the Nigerian man/woman has built strong enterprises and a much stronger economy than any of the countries in west africa. Look at the area of aviation, ghana has not been able to build both private or national airlines. In nigeria the govt failed in its quest to build a national airline yet nigerian investors built arik, air peace, associated airlines, bristow and now green africa. In the area of banks nigerian banks play a dominant role in ghana with the government constantly squeezing them and threatening their existence. In telecoms Glo is also been squuezed but managing to survive. In ghana african world airline is owned by the chinese and not ghana or ghanians. Down to the sme sector the ghanian investment promotion council recently went round shutting down shops owned by Nigerians as there businesses were performing better than that of the ghanians.
I can go on and on but I dont subscribe to the notion of seeing nothing good in Nigeria/nigerians aside negativity . Every society or country has its positives and negatives You spoke well but your last line got me like wtf Bro believe it or not i'm as patriotic as you if not more than. But we've got to say things as they are without sugarcoating. Truth is, Nigeria is in a very bad situation at the moment , its facing enormous challenges from insecurity to economic stagnation, to poor governance. Its not our wish to be this harsh to our government but hey they deserved the bashing |

abnot: When you say Ghana is ahead of Nigeria kindly specify in what areas. It was this same kind of praises I heard and decided to visit Ghana for the first time in 2015. Between then and now I’ve made 5 visits and will liken Accra to a city like port harcourt. Definitely not at par with Lagos and Abuja in terms of development. If a city is quiet and free from the hustle & bustle of another city it doesn’t mean it is ahead. Every city has its pros and cons. It’s just like comparing Mozambique with Angola and saying Mozambique is ahead of Angola What we always say here is that, Ghanians enjoy somewhat stable power supply, something Nigerians can only dream of. So yes in this regards they are doing better than Nigeria. How about insecurity? Waking up this morning I hope you've checked your news feed - a prison break in owerri, police headquarters in IMO set ablaze and vehicles in the vicinity set ablaze and lots of other bad news bro. |

Goodlyhrt: Ok today a girl came to do her hair at my neighbor's place. She is beautiful and all so I thought to myself maybe I should take a shot who knows?
Because i've been having this battle with myself for so long whether or not I can attract a girl again because I swear its been long I had anything romantic to do with any lady and I sincerely miss a woman (romantically) in my life (masturbation eyaf tire me).
Thankfully my neighbor is a hair stylist but based her business at our compound so I do see enough beauties that do come along for their hair styling and luckily today this one enter my den.
Seriously I've had thoughts to approach some of them one of these days but considering the economic situation of my pocket so its a no brainer to just carry face and do like say I no sabi better thing..lol.
But for today I was on a mission (enough tori)
I started planning a scope to start up a convo with the women. The woman (my neighbor) is my good friend so she is not a problem but my target.
So I accessed the environment. The target in question is not more than 23 with nice curves and pretty face (these ones thier shakara no be here) so I needed to come up with a tactics to diffuse any intending notion of her acknowledging that she is the target of my howbeit surprising exhilaration (my neighbor was surprised).
I learnt from experience to not give this type of target any clue that you are tryna aquaint with them. In fact the opposite works here (though with subtlety) so I was walking up and down in search of nothing.
Later I decided to go have my bath. The bathroom path and location would have the target and I see each other. So I proceeded with the plan. When she saw me, she greeted me normally and I responded with my smiling face. Ofcoures I gotta show her my fine dentition (if you got it flaunt it) she smiled back. No wahala.
Inside the bathroom I was scheming, plotting my moves. It was getting intense in my head like I wanted to solve differential equations so I decided to forget all these and kind of flow with the tide.
I got out from the bathroom got to where she is our eyes jammed again. I removed my face at once. This girl sha..
.. I spent a while in my room, came out to check nothing (actually to check the target). I now went back inside and picked some of my clothes for washing..lol. Of course the location of my washing will be opposite where they are because that's where the well is located.
My easiest and most efficient ice breaker (works 100%) is to ask someone to explain something for me in their native lang.
In this case Naira Marley's song was playing somewhere (today is Easter Sunday so owanbe everywhere) I now asked my neighbor to help me interpret one of his lines. She couldn't explain it saying she doesn't listen to that type of music so I now asked the target. She immediately explained the line. We vibed about the meaning of the line and we talked normally that one pass.
Mehn taking a closer look at her hair I discovered she has this interesting hair. The target's hair was half blonde (from the top) and brown the other half. Like a good mixture of coffee and cream.
I asked the target if her hair is natural or she applied something on it which she gleefully answered that it was natural. I followed up complimenting her and everything was going well.
We ended up talking about Brazilian hair whether they could be natural peoples' hair or they are mere synthetic factory made hair. Gentlemen this s where I opened the discussion gate. We talked at length to the amazement of my neighbor. All my stay in that compound she hasn't seen me talk this much.
We laughed as we talked. Like that I use ask her name and phone number which she no waste time give me. Last last I ended up paying for the hair sha.
E fit be say she just use me pay for her hair like this o but I know what I know. Last last na only N300 I spend Baba you be guy wey Sabi! I hope it result in something fruitful, I'm happy for you. But why you sef come pay for the hair? that's a trait beta males exemplify you know. I bet you have no idea the message it sends to her brain. But last last sha you got learn the hard way. |

Lostchild: Travel people ; My Greetings to you all.
I am a chronic lover of nature, travel and sightseeing.
Sometime back In 2009 I traveled to Lagos for the first time where I met a brother that was speaking a language that seem very strange and funny in my ears.
Out of curiosity I asked him. What language do you speak?
He told me the forgetable name and the part of Nigeria (middle belt) or Koggi state to be precise.
Out of curiosity I asked him once more, can you speak hausa?
He replied me with a (Yes)
He told me that he has lived in nearly to all northern state of Nigeria
He told me that many northerners speak hausa because hausa language seem like a general language of the north
He plainly told me that Hausas are not many.
He told me that there is the wrong misconception that hausa's are many. He plainly told me once more that hausa's people are not that many by population as they say
I told him that we the southerners think nearly to everyone from the north are hausa's
He said the reason why we southerners think hausa's are the majority is because most northerners can speak hausa's language just as every southerners can speak pidgin/english
They always told we southerners that hausas are the majority and someone from the north told me hausa's are not many in the north
How true is this? That's not entirely true. Out of the north 19 states, 7 states(the north west) are dominated by purely ethnic Hausas. As illustrated below: Kano 90% ethnic hausa Katsina 95%......... Kaduna 65%........ Jigawa 96%........ Sokoto 90%....... Zamfara 70% ........ Kebbi 60%. ... .. So Hausa's are clearly the majority in North west. While in north East they are not the majority but also has significant populations and of course the language is widely spoken. In North central they are somewhat minorities but still have significant populations especially in Niger and Jos and of course the language is easily understood by locals. |

A very stable light and i can’t even see Nepa Bill ( asked someone and they said they use a meter or something) or Nepa going up and down at least i arrived month ending(April 23) if it was in Nigeria na that same day I go see Nepa with 100k + Bill while person no get light reach 10 days out of 30 days in a month! Omo no Generator sound, no stupid horns everywhere on the road .
Well keep being Patriotic , I was once being like that until they killed my fellow citizens at Lekki Toll Gate.
It’s well That dude is being stupid not patriotic. There is fine line between patriotism and stupidity. By the way, could you believe Armed forces of many African countries Kenya and Senegal included are equipped with a sophisticated riffle called M4A1 carbine while our infantry soldiers on the front lines are equipped with celotaped AK-47s? . According to a recent report Nigerian military spent around 2.5 trillion in arms procurement, with nothing to show for. Where has all this money went to? Who were the culprits? Why were they not brought to book? These are questions that need answers. |
