IBILEmayweather: People who studied very good courses like engineering are suffering and you are thinking of studying a course that is very irrelevant in Nigeria, and to an extent, the world. Man, don’t let anyone rush you to studying a useless course except if you are from a fortunate home or you have “reliable” connections. If you don’t have any of the aforementioned, abeg don’t rush. Calm down and study good courses that is still very much relevant in this present world. And for those that will come here and say, it’s not about what you study, one can learn good skills . How about you study a very good course and also learn those skills? My 2 cents Last time I checked parents shelled out on average of $30k annually to send their children to study in the prestigious universities of this world a course you questionably deemed irrelevant. I quiet believe this may be applicable to Nigeria as its economy is on its knees thereby limiting opportunities. In the US and other developed countries , sociology, though not as in-demand as IT and engineering courses , is actually a very good field of study. |

I will taking some pictures from now on Even though Ghana is not as beautiful as Nigeria but the peace within the country is almost Unrivaled, no police harassment, yet there police are doing there jobs diligently asking for car papers and other thing they need to check and that’s all, haven’t heard about anyone caught stealing nor any cars colliding because even there drivers are in peace and road laws seem important here Such a decent country compared to what we have here. I was chatting with a Facebook friend sometime ago and she told me electricity is quiet stable in Accra, I don't know how true it is. |

Localordinary: Official rate is actually 1cedis=65 naira whilst black market is 70 naira. Whilst growing up,I could remember how useless the franc xefa was, today naira and xefa are in the range. By end of this year, the francophone countries in West Africa including Ghana has introduced a new currency called eco currency. It is shame on Nigerian leaders. They have no shame. So don't bother. Just today in the news, Raymond Dokpesey - the beneficiary of the $2.1billion arms deal scandal was aquited by a court of law in dramatic fashion. Basically $2.1billion gone down the drain Imagine how many sophisticated weapons this money will buy if spent honestly/ diligently? Imagine the state of the art hospital it will build for a country like Nigeria? For the record the president is currently away in a London hospital treating an undisclosed illness. Or the massive upgrade it would do to our universities if invested there? All in all bro, the country is gone to the dogs. Whosoever believe it will get better with this current status quo is doing so at his peril. |

My friend in Turkey is planning to come back to Nigeria soon. Nothing dey for am for over 7 years in Turkey.
It's not always about traveling, what plans do you have when you do? 1. No it is not - he just pulled stats outta his head without any reference, and he expect people to take him seriously? 2.Turkey of all countries, what happen to other sought after immigrant destinations like US, Germany,UK, Canada and the likes? You know that's where the riches are. By the way, your friend is just an individual and his anecdotes doesn't negate the fact millions of Nigerians abroad are thankful they left Nigeria for good. More often than not, the type of people that often lament living in abroad and go as far as discouraging others are 1.Illegal immigrants 2. Refugees 3. Asylum seekers Anyone who has a skill/education and migrate with the right papers will forever be glad with the decision they made as it has proven time and again to be an effort worth making for many. |

Chukwuka16: Sometime last year, my wife and I went shopping at Sainsbury’s and we passed a couple of homeless beggars looking for “a pound please”. I looked to my wife and told her pointedly – these guys all have British passports (or can have one in weeks) but yet are homeless and beggars. Citizenship has never conferred on anyone wealth or prosperity.”
I agree that Nigeria as a country can be tough, but so is everywhere. You have to be strategic about life otherwise you will end up with a lot of regrets – despite possessing multiple citizenships.
What have you been able to achieve in Nigeria all the time you have been here? What things have you wished having access to finance would have pushed you further along or given you a breakthrough? What businesses have you tried and failed in and what lessons have been learnt? What is your life goal – survival or impact?
It is painful to see Nigerians with potentials living abroad thinking that having access to internet, stable electricity, portable water, good roads and other services is just enough for them. What is worse is that these Nigerians haven’t even been able to turn these “so called” opportunities into any significant value – they still live averagely or below averagely. Don’t be deceived with the occasional dose of great Nigerians making great strides abroad, just a few Nigerians (I mean very few) can actually boast of living comfortable in “the abroad”, MOST are just managing (but shame no go fit allow us talk true or acknowledge).[
I have a lot of reservations about Nigeria but that doesn’t detract from the fact that the country offers the best opportunities for growth and wealth generation. I can bicker over forex movement and liquidity issues simply because I’m over leveraged in forex and any significant devaluation in Naira will affect my position, but that’s me and my issues. Yes, I even recently suggested liquidation of assets if things get worse, but things are looking very promising for the country based on my recent observations and the multitude of problems the country has. In fact, my positions are looking very promising with opportunities presenting themselves without much thinking – there are PROBLEMS in Nigeria and that’s your cue for opportunities.
What plans do you have for staying in the UK? Can you sort out your accommodation, feeding, transportation, effects (internet, phone and Netflix/Prime subscriptions) by yourself? Do you have significant savings to burn through for 6 months before you can stabilise? Are you ready to work in Amazon (as a warehouse operative) or as a care worker or as a salesperson for some of the large marts? How long do you intend to do this?
You have a unique advantage. Your other citizenship offers you access to cheap finance which if carefully ploughed into Nigeria can offer you significant returns – hence my asking what lessons have you learned and what experiences have you gained.
Perhaps you may want to take a break and just visit the UK for a short time (the irony considering its usually the other way around). See and observe how people live their lives on a daily basis and question yourself deeply if that’s what you want. Look around and ask lots of questions. Try and situate yourself around people working professional jobs (even if they are not in London, it’s similar experiences) and be quite frank with them. Look at their living conditions, ask questions about their expenses and their growth plans. Inquire about their regrets (if any) and above all inquire about what makes them settle for the UK as against Nigeria. I don’t want to pre-empt your conclusions, but you will be shocked by what you discover. Above all, make sure you have money to spend on dinners and lunches during those interviews. This is a fact-finding mission for you, and it will open your eyes to a lot if you have an open mind.
Lastly, try keeping your return ticket to a max of 3 weeks and don’t resign from your job (if any) in Nigeria. Take the period as an unpaid leave if paid isn’t allowed. I wish you well on your next journey in life and may the good Lord guide you. Any source to back this up? |

Yes, hard times pushed those boys into crime which I accept but what happens when they got the money. Were they able to leave the illegal hustle for their dreams? Bro, citizens build the nation. If you have bad followership, you can never have good leadership.
Those advanced economies you know got where they are through sweats and bloods of their citizens. Some fought deadly war to impact change cos change comes with a price. If you know the average mindset of a Nigerian, you would have totally given up on this country.
Those criticizing governments for corruption and bad governace aren't different from those in government, infact they would do much worst if given the chance. Yahoo or not, Nigeria is never meant to be. Says a lot about your IQ and your general way of thinking. |

Bluekapon: Specs at low price is one thing, quality of those specs is another thing. A 48mp camera on a Redmi might not even come close in comparison with a 12mp camera in a Samsung or iPhone. Same goes for display quality. A 1080p 409ppi display on a Redmi, be it AMOLED or LCD, is nothin to right home about in terms of quality of display. in fact you you might even hate watching videos on the phone! Now, what really baffles me is that phones from some other OEMs, even with lesser specs, gives you so much more in terms of quality! You just described Techno, infinix, Gionee and co but definitely not Xiaomi. |

- Stop expecting honesty from people who lie to themselves- Save your explanations for those that are determined to understand you. Give your silence to those that are determined to misunderstand you.
- Your life is too short to be unhappy 5 days a week in exchange for 2 days of freedom.- Don't be upset about disrespect from people you don't respect.
- If you are easily provoked, you are easily controlled. Restraint is power. This should be cut out and place in doorways, class rooms and other public spaces. You are doing some good job man, amazing! |
Nairaland General › Re: Why South Africa Is Ahead Of Nigeria by Limassol(m): 2:00pm On Mar 28, 2021 |
mroyato: While I agree with you that South Africa is way ahead of Nigeria, I think some of the points you raised to support your claim are quite exaggerated.
1. Recently (Although not very recently), south africa's power generation and distribution company, ESKOM have been facing a lot of challenges in the electricity sector. Hence, it's not business as usual with some province experiencing up to 4 hours of load shedding everyday.
2. There are metered taxis in south africa. They also refer to those buses as taxis sometimes.
3. I have not seen anyone hawk on the street but there are open markets everywhere.
4. They have a name for their villages, unfortunately I cant remember now. Trust me, some of those villages dont have light and good roads.
5. There are police check points but not as common as what we see on our roads here.
6. The weather can be very cold during winter nights. Some areas get to -2°c in the night.
The truth is SA have their issues and they are very serious ones.
That being said, I really envy quite a lot of things about SA and sometimes I wonder how unlucky they are to be classified as a part of Africa.
1. The university system: They have the best universities in Africa. They have 2 schools in the top 300 on the world. At a time, UCT was in the first 100 world universities.
2. I also love the evertthing about Capetown. From the airport down to the city, there are only a few cities in the world that can match the mother city.
3. If you are a fashion freak, there's literally a store for every designer brand you can think of. You've said it all, also i noticed the exaggerations in op post. Though to be honest, the country is way ahead of Nigeria. By the way do you live in SA?I |

Regex: I just wanna thank God for giving me the opportunity to mix with the street in Nigeria. Apparently, what I learned is what I'm going to use to survive added with Grace of God.
The first thing you learn in the street is: OBSERVATION. They will tell you to always observe where you are at any point in time, whenever you go to a new place.
The first day I landed in Newcastle, I didn't know the street I live in was as bad as the street I grew up in Nigeria. To the point I get warning from taxi drivers anytime I am opportune to take one.
The first day I landed in Newcastle, I went to buy food by around that 11pm I was so hungry. When I was coming back, I saw two guys, you'd never know they're together, but I saw them from a mile away, they positioned themselves in a way that you can't avoid the road. As soon as I reached them, one of them asked me if I had a smoke, I politely told him I didn't. Next thing he asked me was for time. I laughed within me, because I knew he wanted to rob me but wanted to make sure I had what he wanted to rob me.
I simply told him I didn't know, but from my guess, it's pretty late and they should be in bed at that time...
He laughed, I laughed and went my way. All these while, I was very polite yet making my grounds.
Tbh not every man has the opportunity to live in the street. My mum hated the street, she in fact thought I was a problem child but she never knew I was learning about the street due to the kind of friends I had and today it had helped me.
My advice: Those guys in your neighbourhood, the good for nothing guys, stop looking down on them or discriminating them, they have loads of experience that you can only learn if you at least call them humans.
Martinez39s. This comment struck a chord for me. . Not every dude will discern the wisdom in it. Thanks man. |

jesmond3945: I don't know where you live but how many times have you been robbed or shot at this year? I lived in Kaduna and just a few days ago around 39 students were abducted from their school in igabi LGA. And I speak they are still in captivity. I know people who were kidnapped and have to pay ridiculous sums as random. JTFs are springing left and right further excerbating the issue. Bloodshed and senseless killings is now commonplace and no longer shocking. The security situation in Nigeria is terrible and rapidly degenerating and descending into anarchy. Though some regions have it better like in most southern states. Don't try to downplay these issues please. Modified: I realized in your subsequent comments you are trying so hard to justify your stance by even going as far as equating the shooting incident in a spa in Atlanta( which is rare) to the daily incident of insecurity challenges we are facing here.
