EducationRe: Explanation Of The Book "KA Stroud Engineering Mathematics" In Yoruba by Lukgaf(op): 7:13am On Dec 30, 2022
Last night, I continued my explanation from frame 26 of book (program F7: page 207). I explained how to expand binomials using coefficients of the Pascal triangle. This process however could only be used to expand power with a positive integer (>=1). Via the relationship between Pascal triangle and Combination coefficients as discussed in the previous episode, I also showed how to expand binomials whose power is less than 1 (a negative integer or fraction).

IslamWhy Muslims Do Not Celebrate And Congratulate Non-muslims On Their Festivals? by Lukgaf(op): 5:49am On Dec 30, 2022
No doubt, we have friends, teachers and colleagues among non-Muslims. We engage and collaborate when it comes to worldly affairs. We even congratulate them on their success. This is fine and humanly!

We have a lot of non-Muslim teachers we respect them a lot - we benefitted a lot from them in terms of knowledge and experience. We do not sever our relationship with them!

Also, we have a lot of non-muslims as friends and colleagues at work. We cherish and wish them well. We congratulate them when they achieve great things in life.

In essence, Islam enjoys being good to all the creatures of Allah - human beings, whether a Muslim or non-Muslims. Even animals!

However, when it comes to the issue of beliefs, Muslims are not to compromise. In Islam (as it is contained in other religions/beliefs), there are dos/don't and red lines we shouldn't cross. Some of them include things we are prohibited from doing such as celebrating any non-islamic festivals and wishing those doing them. This is not limited to non-Muslim festivals only. It also includes all the innovated festivals some Muslims celebrate, such as Mawlud Nabiyy, Islamic Calendar year, etc (you see some Muslims and I have made some threads condemning these too). For any festival to be Islamic, there must be evidence for it from the Holy book (Qur'an) or Sunnah! We celebrate both Eids because there are account for them!

Based on the above, congratulating the non-Muslims on their religious festivals is haraam because it implies that one accepts or approves of their rituals of kufr, even if one would not accept those things for oneself.

Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"If you disbelieve, then verily, Allaah is not in need of you, He likes not disbelief for His slaves. And if you are grateful (by being believers), He is pleased therewith for you. . ."
[al-Zumar 39:7]

". . . This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islaam as your religion . . ."
[al-Maa'idah 5:3]

So to congratulate non-Muslims on their festival is forbidden if you're truly a Muslim. You can congratulate them on any worldly achievements so far it has nothing to do with their beliefs.

Also, it is haraam (forbidden) to accept invitations on such festivals, because this is worse than congratulating them as it implies taking part in their celebrations.

We ask Allah to make us steadfast, safe us hypocrisy and from displeasing our creator at the expense of His creatures (human beings) (Aameen).
IslamCan Muslim Perform A Special Prayer/tahaajud On The Last Day Of The Year ? by Lukgaf(op): 5:19am On Dec 30, 2022
Our dear brother on this section, Abu Abdillah, @Rashduct4luv created a thread on this topic before and it is still relevant today. Muslims should take note of it!

Muslims just don't celebrate. We have a legal way of life in Islam.
The basic principle for a Muslim is to follow (the Sunnah) and not introduce innovations. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم to mankind): ‘If you (really) love Allaah, then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic Monotheism, follow the Qur’aan and the Sunnah), Allaah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.’

32. Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): ‘Obey Allaah and the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم).” But if they turn away, then Allaah does not like the disbelievers’”

[Aal ‘Imraan 3:21, 32].

Ibn Katheer (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

This verse states that everyone who claims to love Allah but is not following the path of Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) is lying in his claim unless he follows the path or religion of Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) in all his words and deeds, as it is proven in al-Saheeh that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever introduces an action that is not part of this matter of ours will have it rejected.”

Tafseer Ibn Katheer, 2/32

Celebration and supplication is part of worship in Islam. Muslims should find out the days and times when supplications are answered according to the ways of the Prophet (salallahu alayhi wasalam) instead of basing our hope on the crossover of a day to another day which has no proven specialty attached. Beware of charlatan clerics putting up posters for special new year transition Tahajjud prayers! Ask them where the Prophet (salallahu alayhi wasalam) whom we follow with regards to acts of worship did such prayers!

Some Muslims do not even know the Islamic calendar not to talk of the date! It shouldn't be only the 9th month of Islam (called Ramadan) that we have to focus on.

We urge all Muslims to avoid innovations and imitations!

Say no to new year prayer/Tahajjud, celebration, greetings and food. We can take life decisions or change our life pattern anytime hence hinging such on the turn of a year has no specialty attached!

We urge all Muslims to train themselves and their families more on Aqeedah and may Allah Grant us understanding!

IslamHow To Greet Elderly People Sitting Down? by Lukgaf(op): 6:48pm On Dec 21, 2022
Shaykh (Dr) Sharof Gbadebo Raajee (hafidhohuLlaah) was asked how to greet elderly people sitting down and below is his response:

As for the one who asked about how to greet a person older than him, we have known in Islaam (that) Islaam does not allow us to kneel down for anyone and does not allow us to prostrate for anyone. It is neither insolence nor lack of reverence. Islaam taught us to revere and honour the elderly person, but does not support kneeling or prostration.

Islaam holds that ‘bowing the body, kneeling or prostration to others’ is a culture of the idolaters. We are not idolaters; we worship Allaah our creator. The Lord of all that exists is the One we worship. That's why there is none worthy of ‘bowing to or prostration to’ except our Lord, our Creator. This is the Sharee'ah law.

If you want to greet an elderly person or you want to greet your age-mate, if the person is seated, the Sharee'ah law holds that you sit down just as he is seated. You are not to greet the one who is seated while standing except if he stands coming towards you. This is the Sharee'ah law of Islaam.

You will see that when angel Jibreel, peace be upon him, came to meet the Prophet Muhammad, blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him and his family, in the picture of a human, this angel met the Prophet in a sitting position, he never hesitated to sit down. It was when he sat with the Prophet as the Prophet was seated, that he started to talk. That's it.

IslamA Hadith About Gratitude by Lukgaf(op): 8:24am On Dec 16, 2022
Abu Hurairah Radiyallaahu Anhu narrates that he heard Rasulullah Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam relate that there were three men from the Banu Isra’eel. One of them was a leper, the other bald, and the third blind. Allah Ta’aala wanted to test them, so He sent an angel to them. The angel first went to the leper and asked him: “What would you like best?” He replied: “I would like a nice complexion, a beautiful skin, and that this sickness goes away from me whereby people do not allow me to sit with them and which they hate.” The angel passed his hand over the body of that person. He was immediately cured and a nice skin and beautiful complexion appeared. The angel then asked him: “What type of wealth do you like the most?” He replied: “Camels.” So he gave him a pregnant camel and told him: “May Allah Ta’aala give you barkaat in this.”

The angel then went to the bald person and asked him: “What would you like best?” He replied: “That my hair grows nicely and that this sickness which people dislike goes away from me!” The angel passed his hand over his head, he was immediately cured and beautiful hair began to grow. He then asked him: “What type of wealth do you like the most?” He replied: “Cows.” So he gave him a pregnant cow and told him: “May Allah Ta’aala give you barkaat in this.”

Eventually, the angel went to the blind person and asked him: “What would you like most?” He replied: “That Allah gives me back my sight so that I may be able to see everyone.” The angel passed his hand over his eyes and Allah gave him back his sight. He then asked him: “What type of wealth do you like the most?” He replied: “Goats.” So he was given a pregnant goat. The animals of all three delivered their babies. In a short time, the jungle was filled with camels, cows and goats.

Thereafter, under the orders of Allah Ta’aala, that angel went in his previous form to the leper and said to him: “I am a poor person. All my provisions for my journey are finished. Today I have no means of reaching home except through Allah and then through your help. In the name of that Allah who has blessed you with a nice skin and a beautiful complexion, I ask you for a camel which I could ride and reach my home.” He replied: “Get far away from here! I have a lot of other commitments to fulfill. I do not have anything to spare which I could give you.” The angel said: “I think I recognize you. Were you not a leper, for which people despised you? Were you not very poor, and then Allah blessed you with so much of wealth?” He replied: “What are you talking? I inherited this wealth from my ancestors.” The angel said: “If you are lying, may Allah return you as you were before.”

The angel then went to the bald person in his previous form and asked him the same questions and he also replied in the same way. So the angel said to him: “If you are lying, may Allah return you as you were before.”

Eventually he went to the blind person in that same original form and said to him: “I am a traveller and all my provisions are finished. Today I have no means except Allah and then you. In the name of that Being who returned to you your eye-sight, I ask you for a goat with which I could do my work and complete my journey.” He replied: “Without doubt, I was blind. It was only out of His mercy that He gave me back my eye-sight. Take as much as you want and leave behind as much as you want. By Allah, I will not stop you from taking anything.” The angel replied: “Keep your wealth with you, I do not want anything. I had only come to test you three. Now the test is over. Allah is pleased with you and displeased with the other two.”

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Remember Allah Ta’aala in prosperity, He will be with you in adversity.

Just how many of us can relate to the above incident. Here we have three people, all in adverse physical conditions. Allah Ta’aala cures them and furthermore enriches them with wealth of their choice. They begin enjoying prosperous conditions and two of them forget that it was ONLY Allah Ta’aala who had favoured them with these. They turned away the poor people who knocked at their doors with excuses of other commitments and obligations.

Adding insult to injury they proclaim that whatever they enjoy is simply due to their own efforts and good fortune that has come their way.

However, the third man, the once-blind, warmly welcomed the beggar and offered him to take from his wealth as much as he desired. He further crowned this noble deed by attributing his prosperity to Allah Ta’aala and acknowledging that it is only Allah Ta’aala Who is the true Benefactor of mankind

Am I blind to the blessings of Allah Ta’aala?

Alhamdulillah, Allah Ta’aala through his sheer grace and benevolence has blessed many in the Ummah with vast amounts of wealth. Amazingly enough many of these people today would be able to recollect and remember their simple and humble beginnings. The days when new clothes will only be bought on the day of Eid and Biryani would only be served on the day of Eid. Some may even recall even harder times, the times when compromises had to be made for the very basic necessities of life. Either only clothing or food could be bought due to the financial constraints.

Whilst Allah Ta’aala has now turned the tables and flung wide open the avenues of Rizq for us, we need to examine our attitudes in the wake of these comforts.

1) Have we become more humble or has this wealth created arrogance and an attitude within us?

2) Do we remember our humble beginnings and therefore, offer gratitude to Allah Ta’aala daily by way of obedience to Him or do we neglect His commandments.

3) Do we still show kindness and compassion to those less fortunate than us or have we simply forgotten about them and their plight.

Remember! Allah Ta’aala has enriched you when you had nothing. It is not a task for Him to take away all that you have and render you penniless once again.

IslamIs Allaah Aware Of What We Do Before Doing It Or When It Comes To Pass? by Lukgaf(op): 8:01am On Dec 16, 2022
Is Allaah aware of that which we do before doing it or until it comes to pass?

This is a very important question. It is expected that we all know that the failure to understand the response to this kind of question is the reason some people became Qadariyyah. The Qadariyyah are those who assert that Allaah is not aware of that which they do before they do it. With this (reasoning), they affirmed that the Creator is two. (They affirmed that) there is a Creator who created them, but they attribute their actions to themselves. So they affirmed that the Creator is two. That is why it was reported in a narration that the Qadariyyah are the Majoos of this Ummah. This is because the Majoos, those who worship the fire, also affirmed that there are two creators; they affirmed ‘the creator of light’ and ‘the creator of darkness’. They attribute goodness to the ‘creator of light’ (and) they attribute evil to ‘the creator of darkness’. This is the understanding of the Majoos who worshipped the Fire. The Qadariyyah are likened to the Majoos in this Ummah because they affirm that Allaah created them, but they denied that He created their deeds and they affirmed that for themselves. We seek refuge with Allaah! The reason they affirmed that Allaah is not aware of that which they do before doing it is their belief that Allaah’s Creation does not encompass their actions. They affirmed their actions for themselves denying it for Allaah. We seek refuge with Allaah! The belief that you must have which is that of the Sunnah is that Allaah is the One who created us and our actions. For this reason, Allaah knows us; He knows whatever we do before it comes to pass, and He knows the consequence of our actions. He is aware of the actions we will not do and the consequence of such actions if He had destined us to do them. For this reason, Allaah is the One who created us and that which we do. This is in line with the statement of Allaah in Soorah as-Sooffaat (verse 96), “While Allaah created you and that which you do?” For this reason, He is aware of that which we do before it comes to pass, and He knows that which we will not do and its consequence.

IslamGoodness To One's Neighbors by Lukgaf(op): 7:38am On Dec 02, 2022
Islam recognises the fact that man is a social being whose interaction with those around him is inevitable since human beings live in communities. Allah Ta’ala has placed certain rights and responsibilities over us to enable us to live in peace and harmony. Some people enjoy certain rights by virtue of blood relations like parents, spouses and relatives, while others merely by their location like neighbours.

Nabi Sallallaahu Alaihi wasallam has urged the kind treatment of neighbours to such an extent that his companions thought that the neighbour would be entitled to inheritance. This is not surprising as Nabi Sallallaahu Alaihi wasallam himself is reported to have said, “Jibraeel Alaihis Salaam continued advising me about the kind treatment of neighbours until I thought that he would include neighbours as heirs.” (Bukhari)

Islam advocates kindness to neighbours even if they be adherents of another faith and followers of a different religion. Once Abdullah bin Umar slaughtered a sheep. He made sure that his slave sent a portion of the meat to their Jewish neighbour in keeping with the sublime teachings of Nabi Sallallaahu Alaihi wasallam. (Bukhari)

Being indifferent to one’s neighbour and being inconsiderate about their welfare has been cited as a sign of deficiency of ones Imaan. Nabi Sallallaahu Alaihi wasallam has said:
“He does not believe in me, the one who eats to his fill while his neighbour is hungry and he knows about it”. (Tabarani)

While sitting with his companions one day, Nabi Sallallaahu Alaihi wasallam is reported to have exclaimed “By Allah, he is not a believer, By Allah he is not a believer, By Allah, he is not a believer!” The Companions enquired “Who, O Prophet of Allah?” He replied “The one whose neighbour is not safe from his evil” (Bukhari)

From these teachings it is evident that Islam teaches us to be sensitive to the needs of those around us, to be aware of their hardships and difficulties and to be receptive to their cries for help.

What then should we be doing for our neighbours?

Provide assistance when required, visit them when they are sick, congratulate them in their moments of joy and happiness, console them when they are troubled and distressed, counsel them to that which is beneficial, refrain from publicising their shortcomings, avoid erecting buildings on your property that may cause inconvenience to them denying him access to fresh air.

The ill treatment of neighbours could deny one entry into Paradise.

Nabi Sallallaahu Alaihi wasallam was asked, “O Messenger of Allah, such and such woman spends her nights in prayer, fasts during the day and she gives charity, but she offends her neighbours with her sharp tongue. Nabi Sallallaahu Alaihi wasallam replied, “Her good deeds are of no avail, She is among the dwellers of Hell. They said, “So and so prays the obligatory prayers gives charity in the form of left over curds, but does not offend anyone. Nabi Sallallaahu Alaihi wasallam replied, “She is among the dwellers of Paradise”. (Bukhari)

How valuable are you to those in your neighbourhood?

It is reported that the neighbour of Said bin al ’Aas wanted to sell his house. When the prospective buyer offered him 100 000 dirhams, his neighbour remarked, “You are paying me 100 000 dirhams for the house, How much are you willing to pay for having Sa’id as a neighbour?” Sa’id was so pleased that his neighbour valued him so much that he gave him the money and asked him not to sell his home.

May Allah Ta’ala give us the Tawfeeq to fulfill the rights of our neighbours and save us from neglecting them, Aameen

IslamWhat Islam Says About The Right Of Workers? by Lukgaf(op): 7:27am On Dec 02, 2022
We need to acknowledge the immeasurable contribution of ‘labour’ to the smooth functioning and prosperity of society; and we also need to pay tribute to the dignity and human worth of the ‘labourer’.

As Muslims we need to look at how we fare as a society in the treatment of our workers. Islâm spread to every corner of the globe because of the conduct that Muslims displayed. People were naturally attracted to Islâm because of their close association and interaction with Muslims. We need to ask ourselves why do individuals who see how we pray, fast, live, etc., … individuals who have virtually become part of the family still do not find reason to accept Islâm.

Are we perhaps falling short in displaying justice, compassion and kindness in our dealings with them? Is our conduct turning them away from Islâm?

Domestic Employees:

The manner in which we address our domestics helps to develop their self-worth and confidence. It is improper to address them as “Boy” or “Girl.” It is even more repugnant when the “Boy” or “Girl” is as old as our mothers or fathers.

The Holy Qur’ân states: “And neither shall you defame one another nor insult one another by offensive names; evil is a name implying wickedness after one has attained to faith.” (49:11)

The Holy Qur’ân states: “O you who believe! Spend on others out of the good things that you may have acquired, and out of that which We bring forth for you from the earth; and choose not for your spending the bad things, which you yourselves would not accept without averting your eyes in disdain. And know that Allâh is self-sufficient, ever to be praised.” (2:267)

Muslims are cautioned not to offer as charity things that they themselves would not like to receive. We need to guard against offering ‘inferior acts of kindness’ as tokens of appreciation and gratitude.

Mua’dhins:

Our Mua’dhins are perhaps one of the most underrated people in our societies. They often work seven days a week, 365 days a year, and are in some instances housed in squalid conditions and paid meagre salaries. In some Masâjid, every Musallî feels that he has the right to instruct the Mua’dhin.

The Holy Qur’ân states: “And who is better in speech than one who calls to Allâh and does righteous deeds and says: “I am of those who submit.” (41:33) The Mua’dhin has a very noble and honoured status in the sight of Allâh. He proclaims the greatness of Allâh five times a day; he has the honour of caring for the House of Allâh! Nabî Sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam has said: “The Mua’dhins will be the proudest of people on the Day of Qiyâmah.” (Muslim)

Imâms/Maktab Teachers/Apas/Muallimahs

Our Imâms and Teachers have dedicated their lives to fulfilling the mission of Nabî Sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam. They are regarded as the best of people by virtue of the vocation they pursue. Nabî Sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam has said: “The best of you are those who learn the Qur’ân and teach it.” Do we really hold them in esteem? Does our attitude reflect a sense of respect and admiration? Nabî Sallallâhu ‘alayhi wasallam has said: “Verily from among the signs of the final hour are that the congregation will push each other forward since they will not find an Imâm who will lead them in prayer.” (Ahmad)

The scarcity of Imâms may well be because of the absence of learned men in the community, or learned men become materially motivated and look for ‘greener pastures’ or because learned men find it unbearable to work under undignified working conditions.

Fundamental Principle

The Holy Qur’ân states: “O You who believe, do not consume your property among yourselves wrongfully, but let there be trade by mutual consent, and do not kill yourselves…” (4:29-30)

Believers are cautioned against exploitation of any kind, even if the other person being the weaker party agrees to such a deprivation or exploitation under the stress of circumstances. “Do not kill yourselves” refers to the eventual outcome of exploitation – It perpetuates a cycle of hatred, and anger, which will eventually rebound on the oppressors themselves. Exploitation of any kind is tantamount to self-destruction.

Mutual consent is the fundamental principle that forms the basis of employer/employee relations. This mutual consent has to take the form of an agreement or contract. The provisions of the contract must be based on justice, and compassion.

The contract from an Islâmic perspective must include among other things:

Description of the type of work

Place of work

Duration of contract

Remuneration

Ordinary hours and days of work

Dignity of the Employees

“(They are) Your brethren whom Allâh has placed in your custody. Let him who has been made custodian of his brother by Allâh feed him from what he himself eats, clothe him out of what he clothes himself, and impose not on him work that will overcome him…” (Bukhârî & Muslim)

Although this tradition primarily refers to the treatment of slaves, it nevertheless contains some very pertinent directives for employers. Your employees are your human brothers who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Pay them enough so that they are able to maintain themselves with dignity. Do not impose on them so much work, or so long working hours that may be overbearing.

Treat them, as you yourself would like to be treated.

Especially in the month of Ramadaan, We appeal to all Muslim employers to be lenient on their employees.

May Allâh Ta’âlâ give us the ability to mirror the teachings of our Dîn in all our activities. Âmîn

EducationRe: Explanation Of The Book "KA Stroud Engineering Mathematics" In Yoruba by Lukgaf(op):
In this episode, I concluded my explanation on Program F6 of the book (polynomial equations). Starting from the 18th frame of the Program, I discussed how to find and solve cubic and quartic equations with at least a single linear factor. While explaining these, I revised (derived) the factor and reminder's theorem.

My guest tonight on Ale Isiro is Chief Adeniyan Hakeem. While I explain mathematics using Yoruba (without changing mathematical terms), he teaches mathematics exclusively in Yoruba, which I find very interesting.

The topic of the session is "Mathematics in Yoruba: hoax?". It promises to be fun!

Thanks, and see you!
