ndaman25: Yess....my wife missed 60 fasting in total...2020 pregnant & 2021 breast feeding. In this situation how can we repay everything. Fasting for 60days of the Table
Rashduct4luv: Jazaak Allahu khayran Akhee Lukgaf. May Allah increase us in wealth and grant us Jannah without stress.
I can see a non-Muslim posting an Hadith in snide remarks on what he understands little about. Islam was strange till it gained victory! If it became strange again then there will be another victory! More Muslims would be persecuted, denied their rights, killed, etc just because they are Muslims.
That hadith is a reminder to us that Islam will be like it was at the beginning and then have the second victory!
It's the second of Rajab 1443AH - less than 60 days to Ramadan! Just a reminder for those who missed some fast during the last Ramadan that they still have some time to pay them back. MAy Allah make it easy and make us witness Ramadan in good health, wealth and sound faith (Ameen)
I'm vegain, I mean I do not eat any meat product or dairy from milk , eggs, cheese , or honey , any think that have to do with animal I just I don't eat it, and the thing that I like the religion of the Islam I would like to be a part of it , so my question can I be a Muslim and still don't eat meat and animal product ? Thank you so much
Praise be to Allah.
Yes, you can be a Muslim without eating these animal products, but you need to be aware of the following:
You should not think that these things are haraam (forbidden), because Allaah says (interpretation of the meanings): O you who believe! Make not unlawful the tayyibaat (all that is good as regards foods, things, deeds, beliefs, persons, etc.) which Allaah has made lawful to you, and transgress not. Verily, Allaah does not like the transgressors. [al-Maaidah 5:87]
Say: who has forbidden the adornment with clothes given by Allaah, which He has produced for His slaves, and al-tayyibaat [all kinds of lawful things] of food? Say: they are, in the life of this world, for those who believe, (and) exclusively for them (believers) on the Day of Resurrection (the disbelievers will not share them). Thus We explain the aayat (Islamic laws) in detail for people who have knowledge. [al-Araaf 7:32]
Say: Tell me, what provision has Allaah sent down to you! And you have made of it lawful and unlawful. Say: Has Allaah permitted you (to do so), or do you invent a lie against Allaah? [Yoonus 10:59]
You should not think that it is better to abstain from these foods, or that doing so will be rewarded, or that a vegetarian is closer to Allaah than others, and so on. It is not permitted to draw closer to Allaah in this way. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), who is the best of mankind and the closest to Allaah, used to eat meat and drink milk and honey. When one of his Companions wanted to give up meat, he told him that this was wrong. Anas reported that there was a group of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), one of whom said, I will never marry women; another said, I will not eat meat; another said, I will not sleep on a bed; and another said, I will fast and never break my fast. News of this reached the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). He praised and thanked Allaah, then said: What is wrong with the people who are saying such and such? I pray and I sleep; I fast and I break my fast; and I marry women. Whoever deviates from my Sunnah (way) does not belong to me.
(Reported by al-Nisaai; the story is also to be found in the two Saheehs of al-Bukhaari and Muslim). There is a great difference between not eating a certain kind of food because one does not like it, or it does not agree with one, or one has been put off for example by seeing an animal slaughtered when one was a child, which may leave one with a distaste for meat and other similar reasons, and thinking that meat is haraam and that abstaining from it is an act of worship, as is done by Brahmins, monks and others who are misguided.
Once this matter is clear in your mind, there is nothing wrong with not eating foods that you do not like. We will be happy to welcome you soon as our sister in Islam. We ask Allaah to give you the strength to do good and to protect you from every evil. Allaah is the One Who guides to the Straight Path.
As a Muslim, when you have a problem, you don't need to run to a priest or Alfa for a solution. For every problem you have, there are solutions in the Quran and Sunnah.
Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, entered the mosque one day while a man from the Ansar named Abu Umamah was there. The Prophet said, “O Abu Umamah, what is the matter that I see you sitting in the mosque while it is not time for prayer?” He said, “O Messenger of Allah, I am compelled by anxiety and debts.”
The Prophet said, “Shall I not teach you a word to say by which Allah Almighty will relive your worry and complete your debt?”
He said, “Of course, O Messenger of Allah.”
The Prophet said, “Say in the morning and evening:
O Allah, I seek refuge in you from worry and sadness. I seek refuge in you from weakness and laziness. I seek refuge in you from cowardice and miserliness. And I seek refuge in you from being overwhelmed by debt and the tyranny of men.”
Without doubts, insecurity is one of the major challenges Nigeria is facing. People can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed. The best and most effective panacea to reduce this menace can be found in Islam. For example, if we can apply the below ayah in the Quran, insecurity in Nigeria will reduce drastically.
"The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger (i.e the Kidnappers, Terrorist, Bandits and Corrupt people) and do mischief in the land is only that they shall be killed or crucified or their hands and their feet be cut off on the opposite sides, or be exiled from the land.)"
Surah Moidah 33
"Those who waged war against Allah are those who commit atrocities on the land such as the Kidnappers, Terrorist, Bandits, and Corrupt people"
Dr Sharoff Gbadebo Raaji (HafidhohuLah).
Ibn Kathiir also explained that `Wage war' mentioned here means, oppose and contradict, and it includes disbelief, blocking roads and spreading fear in the fairways. Mischief in the land refers to various types of evil.
This Ayah was revealed concerning the idolators, those among them who repent before being apprehended, they will still be liable for punishment for the crimes they committed.'' The correct opinion is that this Ayah is general in meaning and includes the idolators and all others who commit the types of crimes the Ayah mentioned. Al-Bukhari and Muslim recorded that Abu Qilabah `Abdullah bin Zayd Al-Jarmi, said that Anas bin Malik said, "Eight people of the `Ukl tribe came to the Messenger of Allah and gave him their pledge to follow Islam. Al-Madinah's climate did not suit them and they became sick and complained to Allah's Messenger . So he said,
« أَلَا تَخْرُجُونَ مَعَ رَاعِينَا فِي إِبِلِهِ، فَتُصِيبُوا مِنْ أَبْوَالِهَا وَأَلْبَانِهَا » (Go with our shepherd to be treated by the milk and urine of his camels.) So they went as directed, and after they drank from the camels' milk and urine, they became healthy, and they killed the shepherd and drove away all the camels. The news reached the Prophet and he sent (men) in their pursuit and they were captured. He then ordered that their hands and feet be cut off (and it was done), and their eyes were branded with heated pieces of iron. Next, they were put in the sun until they died.'' This is the wording of Muslim. In another narration for this Hadith, it was mentioned that these people were from the tribes of `Ukl or `Uraynah. Another narration reported that these people were put in the Harrah area (of Al-Madinah), and when they asked for water, no water was given to them. Allah said,
"they shall be killed or crucified or their hands and their feet be cut off on the opposite sides, or be exiled from the land." `Ali bin Abi Talhah said that Ibn `Abbas said about this Ayah, `He who takes up arms in Muslim land and spreads fear in the fairways and is captured, the Muslim Leader has the choice to either have him killed, crucified or cut off his hands and feet.'' Similar was said by Sa`id bin Al-Musayyib, Mujahid, `Ata', Al-Hasan Al-Basri, Ibrahim An-Nakha`i and Ad-Dahhak, as Abu Ja`far Ibn Jarir recorded. This view is supported by the fact that the word Aw (or), indicates a choice. As Allah said,
"or be exiled from the land." some said that it means, he is actively pursued until he is captured, and thus receives his prescribed punishment, or otherwise he escapes from the land of Islam, as Ibn Jarir recorded from Ibn `Abbas, Anas bin Malik, Sa`id bin Jubayr, Ad-Dahhak, Ar-Rabi` bin Anas, Az-Zuhri, Al-Layth bin Sa`d and Malik bin Anas. Some said that the Ayah means these people are expelled to another land, or to another state by the Muslims authorities. Sa`id bin Jubayr, Abu Ash-Sha`tha', Al-Hasan, Az-Zuhri, Ad-Dahhak and Muqatil bin Hayyan said that he is expelled, but not outside of the land of Islam, while others said that he is to be imprisoned. Allah's statement,
﴿ ذَٲلِكَ لَهُمۡ خِزۡىٌ۬ فِى ٱلدُّنۡيَاۖ وَلَهُمۡ فِى ٱلۡأَخِرَةِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ ﴾ (That is their disgrace in this world, and a great torment is theirs in the Hereafter.) means, the punishment We prescribed, killing these aggressors, crucifying them, cutting off their hands and feet on opposite sides, or expelling them from the land is a disgrace for them among mankind in this life, along with the tremendous torment Allah has prepared for them in the Hereafter. This view supports the opinion that these Ayat were revealed about the idolators. As for Muslims, in his Sahih, Muslim recorded that `Ubadah bin As-Samit said, "The Messenger of Allah took the same pledge from us that he also took from women: That we do not associate anything with Allah in worship, we do not steal, commit adultery, or kill our children, and that we do not spread falsehood about each other. He said that he who keeps this pledge, then his reward will be with Allah. He who falls into shortcomings and was punished, then this will be his expiation. And those whose errors were covered by Allah, then their matter is for Allah: If He wills, He will punish them and If He wills, He will pardon them.''
(That is their disgrace in this world,) "Meaning, shame, humiliation, punishment, contempt and torment in this life, before the Hereafter,
(and a great torment is theirs in the Hereafter.) if they do not repent from these errors until death overcomes them. In this case, they will be stricken by the punishment that We prescribed for them in this life and the torment that We prepared for them therein,
On Sunday, Nigeria was disqualified from the 2021 AFCON after their encounter with Tunisia but Allah replaced it for us with something far better than the AFCON cup; our sister in the picture won the first Africa Qur'an competition for Nigeria. We consider this better than the AFCON cup. Allah says: “A Book We have sent down to you so that you may bring forth mankind from the darkness into the light......”. (14:1)
"And We send down of the Qur’an that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss."
“... A book which We have sent down unto you with full of blessings so that they may meditate on its signs and that man of understanding may receive admonition”. (38:29).
“Verily We have revealed the book to you in truth for instructing mankind. He that receives guidance benefits his own soul, but he that strays injures his own soul”. (39:41).
Thanks to all our 45,000+ supporters and all of the pressure we have generated on social media which has now made #ReformIELTSPolicy a trending discussion topic online, the UK Home Office through its Simplification Of the Rules Taskforce yesterday (January 26, 2022 at 4:33pm WAT) replied to a formal inquiry we sent to its office and the Home Secretary, Priti Patel since October 2021.
In our email to the Home Office on October 18, 2021, Founder of Policy Shapers, Ebenezar Wikina wrote on behalf of the campaign requesting for the data sources the UK Home Office uses to validate the inclusion of countries on its Majority English-Speaking Country list.
Bellow are few excerpts from the Home Office's reply which we received yesterday:
"Apologies for the delay in replying to you, and thank you very much for your correspondence on this matter. To be included on the Majority English Speaking Country (MESC) list, we must have evidence that most people in the country (more than half) speak English as a first language.
We rely on publicly available evidence such as official censuses to make this determination along with other academic sources. We may also consult the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office where additional evidence is required. Currently, on the information available to us, Nigeria does not meet the requirement. This list is periodically reviewed and updated, and new countries are added if they are found to meet the requirements.
We are currently expanding the ways in which applicants are able to prove their English language ability. For example, people applying for a Student visa can prove their English language ability including by:
- the education provider self-assessing the English ability of the student
- having a degree taught or researched in English (confirmed by Ecctis if not taught in a MESC list country). Kind regards and please let me know if you have any more questions"
The Campaign was pleased to receive this message after a 3-month wait, but it has left us with a lot of questions which we shall be following up with the Nigerian government, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in Nigeria, as well as the Simplification Of the Rules Taskforce from the Home Office.
A few immediate thoughts that come to mind based on their reply:
Since the Home Office relies on public evidence to validate the inclusion of countries on its MESC list, one of the most veritable public sources is the annual English Proficiency Index released by Education First. Nigeria was one of the 30 countries out of 112 that ranked 'High' or 'Very High' in English proficiency in 2021. Furthermore, EF EPI 2021 scores have been found to correlate strongly with TOEFL iBT 2019 scores (r=0.81) and IELTS Academic Test 2019 scores (r=0.73). These correlations show that, while these tests have different designs and test taker profiles, they reveal similar trends in national English proficiency. In August 2021, the UK Home Office had told the BBC that 51% English language speakers is its criteria for the inclusion of countries in the MESC list but in its last message to us, the Home Office uses phrases like "most most people in the country" and "more than half" which are very fluid and we plan to follow-up with them on this as well. Finally for now, we appreciate the fact that the Home Office says "The MESC list is periodically reviewed and updated, and new countries are added if they are found to meet the requirements." but we wonder when the list was last reviewed and we are confident that the next review will see the inclusion of Nigeria and other Anglophone countries in Africa. These are just a few of the issues we shall be following up with the Home Office on, but for now let us continue to gather signatures and sustain IELTS as a public national discussion as we rally key stakeholders to make the desired change a reality.
Thank you so much again for the support.
Let us continue to believe in our ability to make the world a better and just place for everyone!
If you having problem installing or loading "tidyverse" package, it might be the case that your R is outdated. If it brings there is no package called "reprex", try installing "reprex" package using install.packages("reprex", dependencies = TRUE) . If the problem persists, then like I advised, you need to update your R.
Andresrcs suggested this on a thread on R community
"Since you are using an old R version you are forced to compile packages from source (precompiled binaries are only available for the latest R versions), and for compiling R packages on Windows you need to have RTools installed in your system (not in R), you can download a suitable installer for your R version from here https://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/Rtools/history.html
Or, you could update R to the latest version to get access to precompiled binaries that are easier to install."

We know it is permissible for a Muslim man to marry a non-Muslim woman if she is Christian or Jewish, while it is not permissible for him to marry a non-Muslim woman who follows any religion other than these two.
But can a Muslim woman marry a Christian or Jewish man? This thread clears this.
It is not permissible for a Muslim woman to marry a non-Muslim man from any other religion, whether from among the Jews or Christians, or any other kafir religion. It is not permissible for her to marry a Jew, a Christian , a Magian, a communist, an idol-worshipper, etc.
Evidence for the prohibition of marrying a non-Muslim man The evidence for that is the verse in which Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“And give not (your daughters) in marriage to Al-Mushrikun till they believe (in Allah Alone) and verily, a believing slave is better than a (free) Mushrik (idolater), even though he pleases you. Those (Al-Mushrikun) invite you to the Fire, but Allah invites (you) to Paradise and forgiveness by His Leave, and makes His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) clear to mankind that they may remember.” [al-Baqarah 2:221]
Imam al-Tabari said:
“What is said concerning the interpretation of the words “And give not (your daughters) in marriage to Al-Mushrikun till they believe (in Allah Alone) and verily, a believing slave is better than a (free) Mushrik (idolater), even though he pleases you” is that what Allah meant by that is that Allah has forbidden the believing women from marrying a mushrik, no matter what kind of shirk he believes in. So, O believers, do not give your daughters in marriage to them, for that is forbidden to you. For you to give them in marriage to a believing slave who believes in Allah and His Messenger and that which he brought from Allah is better for you than to give them in marriage to a free mushrik even if he is of noble descent and honourable origins, even if you like his descent and background…
It was narrated that Qatadah and al-Zuhri said, concerning the phrase “And give not (your daughters) in marriage to Al-Mushrikun”, It is not permissible for you to give them in marriage to a Jew or a Christian or a mushrik who is not a follower of your religion.” (Tafsir al-Qurtubi, 2/379)
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: ثَلاَثُ دَعَوَاتٍ مُسْتَجَابَاتٍ: دَعْوَةُ الْمَظْلُومِ، وَدَعْوَةُ الْمُسَافِرِ، وَدَعْوَةُ الْوَالِدِ عَلَى وَلَدِهِ “Three supplications are answered: supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveler and the supplication of the parent for his child.”
Shaykh Zayd al-Madkhali رحمه الله comments on this narration in his explanation of al-Adab al-Mufrad by Imaam Bukhari on page 48-49 Vol 2. He said
This hadith mentions three (types of individuals) whose supplications are answered due to the high status (of their circumstances) in the legislation of Islam:
The first is the supplication of the one who was oppressed in regards to his blood, honor and/or wealth. When this type of person supplicates against his oppressor – with a truthful tongue, present heart and mind – Allah responds to his request even if he was a wicked doer (faasiq) or disbeliever (kaafir). This supplication is raised above the clouds and there is nothing that prevents it from reaching Allah. In fact, Allah allows the supplication to ascend due to Him being All-Aware (al-Khabeer) All-Seeing (al-Baseer) over His servants.
It has been attributed to the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he advised Mu’aadh (ibn Jabal) before he left to Yemen: “…and beware the supplication of the oppressed, for surely there is no barrier between it and Allah.” [Bukhari, Muslim; on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbaas] If this is the affair of the supplication of the oppressed, as you know O Muslim, then it is upon you to have mercy upon yourself and everyone besides yourself from falling into oppression. Beware of subjecting yourself to the punishments of Allah in this life and the next (due to oppression).
The second supplication that is answered is of the traveler – the one who is exhausted in his travels…His supplication is answered whether he supplicates good for himself or for others, or if he supplicates for any type of harm against the one who oppressed him. Indeed, his supplication is answered. Therefore, what is necessary is to aid the traveler – even if it by making a righteous supplication for him that would expand his breast and relax his soul. Perhaps supplication for him could aid him in his travels and allow him to perform righteous deeds and attain rewards.
The third supplication that is answered is the parents for their child – son or daughter; even if the parents supplicates for good or bad. And this is (sufficient) reason for the child to be obedient towards the parents, just as Allah commanded in His statements:
وَٱخۡفِضۡ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ ٱلذُّلِّ مِنَ ٱلرَّحۡمَةِ وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱرۡحَمۡهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِى صَغِيرً۬ا “And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: ‘My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was young.'” [Israa: 24] وَوَصَّيۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ بِوَٲلِدَيۡهِ إِحۡسَـٰنًاۖ حَمَلَتۡهُ أُمُّهُ ۥ كُرۡهً۬ا وَوَضَعَتۡهُ كُرۡهً۬اۖ وَحَمۡلُهُ ۥ وَفِصَـٰلُهُ ۥ ثَلَـٰثُونَ شَہۡرًاۚ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا بَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُ ۥ وَبَلَغَ أَرۡبَعِينَ سَنَةً۬ قَالَ رَبِّ أَوۡزِعۡنِىٓ أَنۡ أَشۡكُرَ نِعۡمَتَكَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَىَّ وَعَلَىٰ وَٲلِدَىَّ وَأَنۡ أَعۡمَلَ صَـٰلِحً۬ا تَرۡضَٮٰهُ وَأَصۡلِحۡ لِى فِى ذُرِّيَّتِىٓۖ “And We have enjoined on man to be dutiful and kind to his parents. His mother bears him with hardship And she brings him forth with hardship, and the bearing of him, and the weaning of him is thirty months, till when he attains full strength and reaches forty years, he says: ‘My Lord! Grant me the power and ability that I may be grateful for Your Favour which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and that I may do righteous good deeds, such as please You, and make my off-spring good…'” [Ahqaaf: 15] The Messenger (peace be upon him) commanded obedience to the parents in more than one narration. Like the narration attributed to Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) in which he said:
“A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and he said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, which of the people are the most deserving of my companionship?’
He said, ‘Your mother.’ Then the man said, ‘Then who?’ The Messenger replied ‘Then your mother.’ Then the man asked ‘Then who?’ The Messenger replied ‘Then your mother.’ Then the man asked, ‘Then who?’ and the Messenger replied, ‘Then your father.'” [Bukhari, Muslim] If this is the affair of supplication of the parents for their children – as we know from the statements of Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him) – then it is required to be soft in our speech to them, fulfil their needs when they are present, be truthful with them, maintain ties with them to the best of our ability without being deficient, supplicate for both of them while they are alive and after death, and other good deeds which fall under being dutiful towards them – in speech and action and hope to be rewarded by Allah.

Is smoking haram in Islam? There is no doubt that smoking is one of the worst poisons that many people are very keen to consume, not caring about the diseases that it causes, which lead to death in many cases. The World Health Organisation stated, in its 2008 report, that smoking tobacco kills 5.4 million people every year, i.e., approximately 14,000 people every day. Unless urgent measures are taken, tobacco will kill ten million people annually by the year 2020.
In the answers to questions no. 7432 and 10922 , we have explained that it is haram to cultivate, deal in and consume this evil plant.
Is shisha haram? The tobacco – as well as jirak (something similar to tobacco) and mu‘assal (mild, flavoured tobacco) – which are smoked in the shisha are no different from regular cigarette tobacco that is rolled up in papers; in fact it contains bad ingredients that are not found in cigarettes. It says on the website of the Bahrain Anti-Smoking Society:
Components of shisha These components are no different from the components of cigarette tobacco and its smoke, as it contains no less than four thousand toxic substances, the most significant of which are: nicotine, carbon monoxide, tar, heavy metals, radioactive substances, carcinogens, agricultural chemicals, insecticides and many other toxic substances.
Some tobacco companies claim that all or most of the tar is removed from shisha tobacco. A number of flavouring substances, the components of which are not known, are also added to shisha tobacco, the extent of the harmful effects of which we do not know. What is said about smoking by means of the shisha or argileh with tobacco or jirak or mu‘assal being free of danger is not true at all. A four-year study in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has proven that mu‘assal is in fact pure tobacco with a large amount of dyes, colours and flavourings that have been mixed without any attention to health regulations, and it proved that it causes various kinds of disease and cancer.
Jirak contains 15% tobacco, mixed with honey, fruits and chemical additives that are cooked and fermented.”
Is argileh or shisha different from smoking? Some naive people think that consuming this plant by means of the argileh or shisha is permissible (halal), because the smoke passes through the water of the argileh pipe. But this is far from correct. Experts say:
1. One session of smoking the argileh is equivalent to smoking at least ten cigarettes.
2. Partial burning of the mu‘assal increases the toxic substances in the argileh.
3. Use of the argileh by a number of people increases the transmission of contagious diseases between them.
4. Water does not filter out the toxic carcinogenic substances contained in argileh tobacco.
On the website of the Bahrain Anti-Smoking Society it says:
“Many people believe that smoking shisha is less serious than smoking cigarettes, because of the prevalent belief that when the smoke passes through the water in the shisha pipe, it removes harmful substances from the smoke and thus reduces the harm that results from smoking shisha. The error of this notion has been proven by means of analysing the smoke that comes out of the mouth of the shisha smoker, which has been shown to contain the same harmful and carcinogenic substances that are present in cigarette smoke.
Side effects of smoking shisha Studies have also proven that smoking shisha:
1. Causes addiction
2. Reduces lung function and causes emphysema and chronic bronchitis, which limits the person’s ability to engage in any physical exertion.
3. It leads to cancer of the lung, mouth, oesophagus and stomach.
4. It leads to a high concentration of carbon monoxide in the blood.
5. It leads to a decrease in fertility in both males and females.
6. It contributes to an increase in the spread of pulmonary tuberculosis in shisha users.
7. In women who smoke shisha during pregnancy, it leads to lower birth weight in the foetus; it also exposes the foetus to respiratory disease in the future or to sudden crib death after birth.
8. Offensive odours are spread when exhaling and on one’s clothing. And it has other effects such as making the voice hoarse, causing reddening in the eyes, and leading to the appearance of wrinkles in the skin and face, especially at an early age.
9. This is in addition to the fact that smoking shisha is regarded as one of the primary contaminants of air in homes and near coffee shops where there are a large number of smokers.”
Hence the prohibition of using tobacco by means of the argileh or shisha is definite.
Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ibraheem (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked about the difference between smoking a regular, rolled-up cigarette and smoking jirak in the shisha and so on.
The Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) responded by stating that smoking is haram, then he said:
Once this is proven, it makes no difference whether it is smoked in a regular cigarette or by some other means, such as this foul shisha, and whether the tobacco is smoked in a pure form or mixed with other things like the jirak. It is still an evil mix. Names do not change facts; if something haram is mixed with something else, it is still haram. In the hadith it says: “At the end of time there will be people who drink alcohol and call it by some other name.” Narrated by Ahmad; classed as sahih by al-Albani in al-Sahihah, 414.” (Fatawa al-Shaykh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim (12/90)
The scholars of the Standing Committee said:
Shisha, argileh and smoking are all evil actions and are haram, because of the harm they cause to one’s body and wealth. Allah, may He be exalted, said, describing our Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him): “he allows them as lawful At-Tayyibat (i.e. all good and lawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods), and prohibits them as unlawful Al-Khabaith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods)” [al-A‘raf 7:157].
It is proven that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “There should be neither harm nor reciprocating harm.” So it is not permissible to use these things or to sell them or to distribute them. (Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Aziz ibn ‘Abd-Allah Al al-Shaykh; Shaykh ‘Abd-Allah ibn Ghadyan; Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan; Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd from Fatawa al-Lajnah al-Daimah, 26/351)
Is shisha haram without tobacco? With regard to your question about using shisha without any tobacco and using only rosewater instead, this is something that we do not know of and we cannot imagine that it exists. What is the combustible substance? What are you going to inhale? The ruling on a thing is to be based on the way it is understood, so we hope that you will explain this matter.
"I have an important question to which I would like to know the answer. I have researched a great deal on the Internet but have not found any answer. After death, when the angel of death takes my soul, then gives it to the angels to shroud me with a shroud from Paradise, will I be aware of that? Will I be aware of the angels and see them when they take me up to heaven, and the angels open the heaven for me, and they say: “Who is this good soul?” and they say: “This is so-and-so”? Will I be aware of all that and see it? Will I hear the voice of Allah when I am taken up to the seventh heaven and He says: “Take him down to the earth”? What will happen to me? Or where will I go when I am brought down to the earth? Will I see my body when it is being washed, or when they are taking me to the grave?"
Praise be to Allah.
Firstly:
These matters are matters of the unseen which the Muslim must accept, but not ask about how they happen, for no one knows how the life of al-barzakh is, or its true nature, except Allah.
The soul is something created, like any other created thing, but knowledge of its true nature is something that belongs only to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, and He has kept the knowledge of that to Himself, as is stated in the hadith that was narrated from ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ood (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: Whilst I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on a farm, and he was leaning on a palm branch stripped of its leaves, the Jews passed by, and some of them said to others, Ask him about the soul. Some of them said, What urges you to ask him about it? Others of them said, Don’t ask him in case he says something you dislike. But they said, Ask him, so they asked him about the soul. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) kept quiet and did not respond to them, and I realised that he was receiving revelation, so I stayed where I was. When the revelation of the verse was complete, he said (interpretation of the meaning): And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about the soul. Say, “The soul is of the affair of my Lord. And mankind have not been given of knowledge except a little”} [al-Isra 17:85]. Narrated by al-Bukhaari.
Allah, may He be exalted, has mentioned the soul in His Book, and the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) has mentioned it in his Sunnah, ascribing several characteristics to it, including the following: it is taken (in death); it may be chained and shrouded; it comes and goes; it ascends and descends; it is drawn out as a hair is drawn out of dough… What is required of us is to affirm these attributes that are mentioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah, and to know that the soul is not like the body.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked:
A person’s death means that his soul departs from his body. When he is buried in the grave, is the soul returned to his body, or where does it go? If the soul is returned to the body in the grave, how does that happen?
He replied:
It is proven from the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) that when a person dies, his soul returns to him in his grave, and he is questioned about his Lord, his religion and his Prophet. Allah rewards those who believe with the word that stands firm in the life of this world and in the hereafter, so the believer says: My Lord is Allah, my religion is Islam and my Prophet is Muhammad. As for the disbeliever or hypocrite, when he is asked, he says: Oh, oh, I do not know; I heard the people saying something so I said it.
This return of the soul to the body in the grave is not like when a person’s soul is in his body in this world, because it is the life of al-barzakh (the interval between death and the resurrection), and we do not know how it is, because we have not been told about the nature of this life.
Regarding all matters of the unseen that we have not been told about, we are required to refrain from speculating about them, because Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): { And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight and the heart - about all those [one] will be questioned} [al-Isra’ 17:36]. End quote from Fataawa Noor ‘ala ad-Darb, al-‘Uthaymeen (4/2).
Secondly:
The deceased person does not see his body as he is being washed or carried to the grave, because the soul has departed from it, and will not return to it until he is in his grave, when he is questioned by the angels.
Regarding the fate of the soul, when the soul of the believer comes down from heaven, it is returned to the body in which it was, then the person is questioned in the grave, and Allah makes him steadfast with the word that stands firm and expands his grave for him as far as the eye can see.
As for the soul of a disbeliever, the angels give him tidings of hellfire and divine wrath, then they take it up, disgraced, humiliated and afraid, and the gates of heaven are not opened for it. Then it returns to its body, and the person is punished in his grave and it is constricted for him, and the intense heat of the Fire comes to him.
This is mentioned in detail in the lengthy hadith of al-Bara’ ibn ‘Aazib, which we have quoted in the answer to question no. 8829 .
But the return of the soul to the body at the time of questioning is a specific type of return; it will not be like it was in this world, as has been noted above. Rather it will be a return that is appropriate to al-barzakh; so his life, his questioning and his answers will be appropriate to al-barzakh and will not be as they were in this world. Allah knows best about how they are and their characteristics.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen said:
Regarding matters of the hereafter of which Allah has told us, we are required to say: We believe and affirm, and we should not speculate, because the matter is beyond our comprehension. This is the principle regarding matters of the unseen, whether they have to do with Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, or His creation.
Matters of the unseen cannot be subject to the question “Why?” at all or the question “How?”, because the matter is beyond our comprehension. Hence, when they asked the Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) about the soul, what did Allah say to them? He said: {And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about the soul. Say, “The soul is of the affair of my Lord}, a matter that you cannot comprehend, {And mankind have not been given of knowledge except a little”} [al-Isra 17:85]. Subhaan Allah! In other words, have you learned all matters of knowledge except knowledge of the soul? Most of the matters of knowledge have passed you by and you have not been given of knowledge except a little. This is strange, that you ask such questions. Your soul, that is inside your body and without which you are nothing, you do not even know what it is! We do not know anything of the soul except what is mentioned in the religious texts of the Qur’an and Sunnah. Apart from that, we do not know anything.
End quote from Liqaa’aat al-Baab al-Maftooh (no. 169).
There are people who belief that if a young child dies, he will reincarnate. Is this correct?
Dr Sharof: This (belief) is not from Islaam. Anyone who dies will never reincarnate. There is no young child or an adult who will reincarnate. Anyone who dies and is buried will never leave his grave till the Day of Qiyaamah. That is why the Prophet said, ‘I am the first person whose grave will be opened on the Day of Qiyaamah’. There is no one who would leave his grave before the Prophet. (In other to proof its impossibility, Shaykh said), if you see anyone who dies and reincarnates, apprehend him and bring him to the people.
What happens is that if a person dies it is easy for Shaytoon (devil) to copy the person’s image. So Shaytoon takes his image to a place where he may meet someone who knows him. He would speak exactly as this dead person speaks and resemble him. This is because Allaah gives the Shayateen (devils) the power to design their images anyhow they like….This is from the Kufr beliefs with the Yorubas.
Also, from the Kufr beliefs of the Yorubas is their belief in another life after this one (that is, they belief that there is another life after this one before the real afterlife). This belief is from the creed of the Hindus. Their belief is that anyone who dies will reincarnate as a fresh embodiment. According to them, a person may die and reincarnate as a lizard. This is the same with the Yorubas. That is why some of them utter statements like, ‘If I reincarnate in this world as a human….’ They got that creed from the Hindus. There is no such thing as reincarnation. Anyone who dies is dead forever. It is either the person goes to paradise or hell; no one will leave his grave except on the day of Qiyaamah.

Muslim women cover their hair because Allah has commanded them to do so, and it is not permissible for them to go against what He says and disobey His command. Allah has only commanded them to do this because there is great wisdom in it.
Part of that wisdom is that it protects a woman’s honour from the “human wolves” who are looking for easy prey to attack and devour, and a morsel cannot be eaten unless it is prepared and ready – which is what we see in those woman who make a display of themselves, who by their appearance are calling those wolves to come and take whatever they want!
Confirmation of this is to be found in the words of Allah (interpretation of the meaning):
“… That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed…” [al-Ahzab 33:59].
If a woman covers herself , then immoral and corrupt men will know that this is not part of their prey, thus Allah will protect them and take care of them.
Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) have issued a stern warning to women who make a display of themselves. An example of this is:
Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are two types of the people of Hell whom I have not seen: a people with whips like the tails of cattle, with which they beat the people, and women who are clothed but naked, walking with an enticing gait and with their heads looking like the humps of camels, leaning to one side. They will not enter Paradise and will not even smell its fragrance, although its fragrance can be detected from such and such a distance.” (Narrated by Muslim, 2128).
A woman [or a man] should not try to comprehend Islamic rulings with her reason – which is unable to encompass the wisdom of Shari’ah. She should know that whatever Allah has enjoined upon her contains nothing but goodness and happiness for her, her family and society as a whole.
It is known that a woman’s uncovering her hair makes her more attractive to men, which could lead to them forming hopes about her and committing immoral actions.
Islam wants society to be clean, with no provocation of desires, outrage or uncovering of women’s charms – which include their hair – which can lead to others being tempted by her and which opens the door to evil and its people.
We need to point out again that Islam means submitting to Allah. The believer follows the command of Allah even if he does not know the wisdom behind it or he does not find anything to convince his reason for it, because his obedience of his Lord and his submission to His command take priority over all other things, and worship is based on obedience and submission.
We ask Allah to show us the truth and help us to follow it, and to show us falsehood and help us to avoid it.
