0balufonlll:
Funny thread. People enjoy ascribing too much to a word and create a problem where there is none. And in the bid to appear smart, then end up having their intelligence called into question.

Gambari is Yoruba term for Hausa.
Yoruba had local names for groups, the same way some other groups have their local names for Yoruba.

See for instance:

Kanike = certain folks from Borno.

Tapa = Nupe/Tiv.

Egun = Ajah

Bariba = Borgu

And so on.

Hausa folks referred to old Oyo as Katunga, it has no meaning in Yoruba but that was Hausa’s term for Oyo.
Thats what Yoruba nation has been reduced to, our people no longer have any direction.

Imagine arguing that eniyan means 'yoruba person' or 'Eda' is only used for Yoruba person. No regard for the Yoruba identity whatsover, utter disgrace on our part

Olu317 these are all the questions you ignored
These questions are not random questions, they are necessarily response to your post...I asked each based on something you said and only want you to go further

:You can click on the 'macof' links below to go back to the original posts

macof:
1. Can you narrate to me the yoruba oral account of migration and what towns speak of these migrations?
2. iye = eym. you need to explain how 'Iye' evolved from 'eym'. ( a tip; you will need to provide some other examples that follow the same pattern of Iye = eym. p.s https://www.pealim.com/dict/2664-em/pic.png according to Hebrew dictionaries everywhere 'mother' is 'em(a)' 'im(a)' https://www.pealim.com/dict/2664-em/
3. so please also provide a dictionary that shows 'eym' is mother in hebrew
macof:
So if Yoruba knew of the hebrews and knew we were hebrews before christianity was introduced

4. what is the yoruba name for Hebrews? and what part of Yoruba traditions, in what specific towns is it implied that Yoruba are Hebrews? You said yoruba have oral accounts of migration? migration from where?

surely for you to know these remnant traditions that i and many others do not know, you must have your sources?
5. Kindly direct me to a link or at least a name, lets identify where you got the information from

I know you still have questions i asked above, but because you wont let us deal with points one step at a time i have to ask more questions
6. Who are the other groups the Yoruba met as they were migrating down to Nigeria? and what part of Yoruba accounts confirm those foreign accounts, it is after all the yoruba that is being talked about, surely the yoruba accounts must give legitimacy to what ever foreign accounts

7. I have never heard of Ibn Battuta mentioning Yoruba in his Rihla account, unless you are referring to the baseless claim that he mentioned Ife as 'Yufi', in which case is completely off. So in what context and to what purpose did Battuta mention Yoruba?
Because even Ahmed Baba is regarded as the first to mention yoruba in a written work

8. so what part of Ahmed Baba's mention of Yoruba is evidence of a Hebrew origin for Yorubas?

9. What names, people and towns outside yorubaland are the Yoruba linked to? asides maybe places in Igalaland with Ife-prefixes

10. what are these traces of non aboriginal narration in Ifa and who are these researchers?

11. So are you saying Yoruba oral accounts are not authentic?

12. what do you know about the ways of Yoruba ancestors? you are not even involved in isese so what ways do you think you know and how did you come about knowing them?
macof:
13. How does Yoruba greatness mean Hebrew originhuh
macof:
14. Eda means 'Humanity' and yoruba use the word only to refer to themselves? so Yoruba are the only humans on earth? did you think before you posted this?

15. How does yoruba feeling of cultural superiority oppose the common origin of yoruba with her neighbors? the Edo also have a feeling of cultural superiority, even higher than the Yorubas...feeling of cultural superiority is relative to how well organized and prosperous a people perceive themselves above their neighbors. Egyptians had a feeling of cultural superiority , Greeks had a feeling of cultural superiority, the british had a feeling of cultural superiority, the mongols had a feelings of cultural superiority, the Persians had a feeling of that same cultural superiority...all of them have a common origin with their neighbors, same neighbors they felt superior to
I'm pretty sure the Ibos had a feeling of cultural superiority too

16. all ancient civilizations are patterned after their connection to their God. taking world history through one perspective(in this case hebrew) will only lead you to misconceptions. So when you say things like only hebrews worshipped God, that is not history, that is just you exposing your religious beliefs

all this hebrew claims are just a scheme to spread more jewish/christian sentiments among yoruba folk, that is why only theologians and their christian followers claim this. Are you a pastor?

17. can we have a list of these cognates? (actually to use the term 'cognates' is wrong, i was just using your words. reason why is because 'cognates' is the term used to describe two words that have a common origin, blood relation if i may say. So I think what you are on to is rather 'borrowed words'. Because Yoruba language is not a blood relative to Hebrew... even if Yorubas came from Hebrews, Yoruba people must have adopted a new language, and borrowed hebrew words into the language.
but even at borrowed words from hebrew, you still follow the same method as cognates...find a pattern using other examples
if you can prove that yoruba language has some hebrew words that already shows Hebrew connection, then we can go further to investigating how and when these words could have entered Yoruba lexicon.
So here we are. This is how scholars do it, so don't be afraid, I'm sure you can defend your theories

smh.. undecided the post you are quoting was not for you oga.
i will repost all my previous posts to you ..but first let me address the so many errors here

Olu317:
macof that I know will always be macof grin grin grin. Let me quickly answer you through the following:

1. When I referred to oyinbo is Oyinbo, I was, simply referring to the general term for light skin from Yoruba concept of being. Despite this, many of my ancestral fathers was light skin. Infact,I know one among one of the Ooni's known as Agbedegbede Oyinbo grin grin. So you can see, light skin people have always being part of my fathers. My own late father was a very light skin and my son is a light skin. 2. Even Oranmiyan was termed to be light skin. Mr,, nationalities were what you mentioned ,so forget your different mentioned nationalities. 1. And you blundered because Geesi means spoken language of a group among the Oyinbos. Subdivision of group isnt a general term.
1. and English is a spoken language among a group of oyinbos...do you ever read what you posthuh 'geesi' is 'english' ..simple
https://scontent-frt3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/41511990_1593922974087197_1468059253867544576_n.png?_nc_cat=0&oh=620c26494a2a222a33ada1f07b6574cf&oe=5C2D3DD6

2. while this has no relevance to the topic, i just thought i should point this out, since my whole intention of responding to this post was to set misconceptions straight....oranmiyan had one side light, the other dark, at least according to ife traditions..i believe 0balufonlll will correct me if i am wrong. This is why the lokoloko paint themselves like this

2. Again you made a mistake on Gambari and Hausa because Gambari is different from Hausa, 1. from ancient Yoruba ,even during invasion of Ilorin. There is nowhere in Yoruba's history did yoruba ever reffered to Hausa as Gambari. The Gambari term was used interchangeably with some variant people of Fulani ancestry. Let me refresh your memory with one old yoruba proverb to this effect; 2. Gambari pàa Fúláni ..........sè bí okàn ní wón. So when you engage someone like me ,be well prepared grin.
what exactly is ancient yoruba? you keep saying ancient yoruba and historians haven't even defined what ancient yoruba is, but you say it so well...so explain this please.

you do realize Hausa-fulani is a thing? During this time Fulani had already created the Sokoto caliphate and spread it over Hausaland, so Fulani and Hausa formed one country... that is exactly what is expressed in the saying at no. 2.
if fulani is gambari then no. 2 makes no sense as that would mean...fulani kill fulani, are they not one? if yoruba already call fulani by 'fulani' why use 'gambari' in the same sentence to refer to the same fulanihuh

You expose yourself to have only very basic knowledge of yoruba studies but like to gloat like you are some professor, unfortunately gloat on your misconceptions...so I just smh all through, there is nothing special to prepare oga, if this is where your knowledge begins and ends

3. Contrary to your imagination, I didn't claimed éníyàn as Hebrew's word for human being. If you see anything related to it,kindly post it.
i never said you did, the post you quoted was not directed to you..and nobody even said 'eniyan' is hebrew word for human being.. try to comprehend before you post

4. Dierk Lange's research is not a newly founded knowledge and not linked to linguistic connection of cognate word I have shared in anyway. Far from it. And once am done, you will view through payment for knowledge if you like or ready to criticise it.
then why mention Dierk Lange at all when you have your personal arsenal of knowledge greater than his?

please let us in on some of these words...
you will also have to show us the complete semantics even in form of etymologies to demonstrate how you arrived at the conclusion that two words from two different languages are actually cognates

Let me give you one tip, try making use of dialects...because if you only have standard yoruba at your disposal and you want to link yoruba language to any other language, you have failed before you even begin

5. Èdà àdàríwùrún isn't as old as ‘Èdà', itself. This word was a coinage by the Islamic Yoruba scholars and not Yoruba ancient elders. In ancient Yoruba concept of Ori, it clearly identify with it as Èdà,which is derived from the relationship between human and God. Èdà is a stand alone word. The same way óorún became óhún in the Islamic concept of the heaven-sky,and which the prefix olo-run and Olo-hun was added to it. Honestly I will like to learn,if you can quote it from IFA's corpus, where àdàriwùrún was mentioned.
Eda Adariwurun was coined by Islamic scholars? ok, do you have a reference for this?

obviously you talk without ever putting yoruba dialects in mind... like i said your knowledge of yoruba is at its most basic level, surprising how you are feeling like one professor
ohun is SWY, that is the pattern of some of the changes in the dialects...'r' becomes 'h'
in some SEY there is no 'r' at all...like in Ondo it is "Oun"

6. I have answered your question Sir, on the believed of migration of Yoruba from different places and the superiority complex of Yoruba's. The Yoruba group were dreaded by nearly all ethnicity, wherever they were met because they were warrior like, industrious and a very WEALTHY GROUP, which is contrary to your modern knowledge, as other groups see themselves as superior to Yorubas. Even the white explorers confirmed this when they came to West Africa. Let me quickly give you another instance, for example , if Yoruba and some people die in an accident in ancient Yoruba land, the yoruba says; èeyan kàn kù àtí..........(the name of the group or tribe ).This is how Yoruba usually say in the past. Well, if you are from such lineage that history is passed orally, you will understand and if not I don't expect you to understand it.

Even if modernity has changed everything, I don't shy away from the truth as told in the past.
eeyan kan ku ati igara meji? abi? grin grin grin grin so you mean to say only yoruba are human beings in this world?

is there any family that doesnt have its oral historyhuh

I'm ready to learn from you macof but i won't accept you tying us up with people that are 1000s of years behind us ...i know nothing i just want to learn.
Its cool to have fun grin but not to the extent of partaking in ridiculing the yoruba nation. You know the ironic thing is that your moniker is Obalufon - a legendary Ife king... it is possible you are from Ife and yet so ignorant about the traditions within.

1. what are those things we have in common...what evidence has studies shown to the existence of this 'common things'
2. you do realize almost every culture has a story of a flood... and while nothing has been proven yet, there are theories as to what the Ife flood was all about

I did not tie yoruba to her neighbors, God did before yoruba ever existed...and it is our job to find the facts out
I perceive you hate the people around the yoruba, especially ibo grin grin ... just dont let emotion come in the way of common sense...you see facts, you say wont accept but its claims without any basis that are acceptable? well like i said, if there are really hebrew origins in yoruba, evidence must be found eventually...but as at now o, there is none
so no matter how you run away from it, your cousin is still your cousin whether you hate him or love him

yoruba of old would never call other people outside their group eniyan.. 1. what you would hear is derogatory remark people think is out of pride but yoruba know who they are, just the way it is ..Even Awolowo did the same his famous quote to the Hausas..kaka ka dobale fun gambari, ka kuku" its better to die than bowing for gambari the northern people hausa. .Eniyan is an attribute or race of people ..2. Adari wu irun."" Is human ....Se bi eniyan "" behave like the chosen ....wu iwa be eniyan rin bi eniyan"" behave like the chosen .rin bi eniyan"" walk like the chosen. 3. oyinbo is oyinbo ,gambari is gambari ..ibo is ibo. laugh
i'm guessing you dont speak yoruba language fluently?

1. gambari is not even derogatory, that is the actual yoruba name for Hausa or Aboki (which is less used). How is gambari derogatory in that statement of Awo? I cant even think of any derogatory name Yoruba have for any nation

2. Eda Adariwurun is an oriki of eniyan, just as ajanaku is oriki for Erin(elephant)... rin bi eniyan? and how do yorubas walk since 'eniyan' according to you means Yoruba?

let me give two more
riro ni t'eniyan, sise ni t'olorun...thinking is for man, God makes it happen
gbogbo eniyan ni oo ku... every man must die...not all of yoruba must die

now i dont expect you to be arguing blindly, you can first acquaint yourself with a yoruba dictionary at least if you dont speak fluent yoruba instead embarrassing yourself

3. Oyinbo is Oyinbo, yet there are subdivisions, Geesi is English, Faranse is French, Potoki is Portuguess etc

I can see you are new to this hebrew thing, let me just advice you to always ask questions and most times, common sense is enough... so this your attempt to twist 'eniyan' to hebrews is laughable, jokes on you. i dont know why you wrote 'laughs' at the end of your post like you just posted something sensible

Ori consciousness is deeper than the way you make ‘ori', concept seems because it is about one's spiritual connection to one's creator, who one appease so that one's path in life is filled positive fulfilment. If you know the strength of language, you wouldn't underestimate the meaning of Édà in ancient Yoruba lexicon because, it is a word that has extreme life and death spiritual intonation in it. For example, ‘Orí mí másè fí'mì sílè, Elédáà mi másè gbàgbé'. The aftermetioned statement says it all in Yoruba's concept of ‘Orí',who is seeking the divine mercy, favour and blessing from God. Do you really know the depth of ,Orí là bà máa bo, à bá f'òrìshà sílè?
I am jut confused right here, how did i underestimate the concept of ori and the meaning of eda?

here is what you posted

Olu317: the Yorubas are the only people on the face of Earth called, Èdà'
this is far from the truth and everybody who speaks yoruba language knows this. so you are the one underestimating the meaning of Eda not me.

That is why yoruba have Eda eniyan, Abami eda, eda elemi, eda adariwurun... Eda means creature, as Eleda means creator

Secondly, ‘ 1. Édà'', is a word for ‘Humanity'and not just creature, because, creature is what has life in it but the metaphysical aspect of 2. ‘édà', blong only to Yorubas. And only Yoruba people use this word for themselves.
'Eda eniyan' is the word for Humanity. I dont expect any yoruba speaker not to know this
but anyway thats not important to the topic at hand..lets not derail

1 & 2. so Yoruba are the only humans on earth? did you think before you posted this?

Contrary to your view, the ancient Yoruba see themselves as superior to their neighbors because their civilzation and spiritualism was above all, which gave rise to their secrecy on some aspects of their lives that connected them to God.

Sir, before you were born, or I,there were account of people whose lifestyle was patterned after their connectivity to God,that the world did not know except the ancient Hebrew. In human history, ‘almighty god', were human beings turned, ‘god', in nearly in all the world culture except Yoruba and Ancient Hebrew. Thos is the reason, Yoruba is being studied deeply so as to confirm their lost identity. After all Dierk Lange, categorically said,Yoruba were‘THE LOST TRIBE OF ISRAEL'. So know this, History is about the, Past, Present and Future', so stop personalising Yoruba's as if they were alien on earth.
all ancient civilizations are patterned after their connection to their God. taking world history through one perspective(in this case hebrew) will only lead you to misconceptions. So when you say things like only hebrews worshipped God, that is not history, that is just you exposing your religious beliefs

all this hebrew claims are just a scheme to spread more jewish/christian sentiments among yoruba folk, that is why only theologians and their christian followers claim this. Are you a pastor?

sure Dierk lange did claim a middle eastern origin for yoruba but then comes the scrutiny, just like you say the same thing and i ask you questions(which you have not answered...scroll up and address them please).
Herr Lange did not deny that Yoruba is gentically related to her neighbors, he also had nothing to challenge the status of yoruba language as a Niger-kongo language because basically his entire conception of africa is that africans have middle-eastern origin, he did not separate yoruba from her neighbors, he only claimed these africans came from the middle east
hausa are cannanites, malians/songhai are akkadians, kanuri are assyrians, yoruba are a mix of arabs and cannaanite, borgu are persians, nubians are arabs etc

He based all this on things he heard and read, without verifying anything to be factual.

So Dierk Lange is not someone you should mention, because even his work doesnt agree with you exactly, you claim only yoruba have hebrew connection, he claims just about all africans do

Furthermore, the people being addressed today as Yorubas were not known as this in the Past but with a different names. So,stop being regressive with your perspective if you are an historian as being claimed but 1. expose yourself to current research work in the field of history ,because the Yoruba history isn't in isolation.

On a last note,Yoruba visual Art and 2. IFA' religious tradition is a stand alone in West Africa, which such cognate was also found in Iboland, North Africa , Middle East etc. But today Ibo's AFA is silenced and does not have the geomancy or scientific aspect as well as spiritual inclination in the same way as Yorubas, because Yoruba IFA is in the united Nation as a symbol of Yoruba's greatness in religious circle.
1. if Dierk Lange is your current research work, let me tell you there is no new information in his work...they are all pre-colonial and colonial materials, back when african history was considered to not even exist, as in Historians believed africa had no history...this is why all those theologians who pioneered writting yoruba history did so with no subsaharan-african background, there was nothing like history in subsaharan africa, so history had to begin with the nearest place outside subsaharan africa ie. western asia and egypt

2. can we have a list of these cognates?

Great and versatile intellectual, how are you doing there? I've not been able to comment for a while, busy weekend. You can see that speculators have taken over the thread and as always is their article in trade, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
grin truth? ok truth should be able to come with answers ne? just declaring something truth doesnt make it true. I knew you would run away and hide from me. If you have the truth you should be bold enough to defend it with facts

your points are still waiting for you above to address

I am familiar with macof bro. He is always about to tell a grand story but at the end, no ability to forge ahead. But for grammar, twists and bends, he is at home. Any Yoruba enthusiast that follow this circus band will end up confused than he started because with them, the more you look, the less you see. That is the mystery of the day. Welcome to the harvest of grammar.
historians are a circus band? grin grin grin your total disrespect for people you ought to be looking up to as a history enthusiast is baffling
still havent gotten help with your partial psychosis?

At least i tell stories that are actual history, because i am an actual historian not some cooked up claims that cannot be defended

Don't be carried away by their 'esusu-likes' that they often donate to encourage one another to urge each other on against their common enemy, it is their reward for the grammar and each clown's competitive ability to speculate. It is what they do best.

1. When will their speculation lead to a tangible and astonishing discovery in history? Never, it is a vicious cycle, effort in futility. It is the recycling of 2. baseless ideas that never have bearing on Yoruba traditions that they claim is in their possession as one initiate or the other, but the application of such tradition in historical discourse will forever elude them. Meaning, 3. they were not chosen.
1. the only people making speculations here are you and the olu guy. that is why i have taken my time to ask you questions, giving you a chance to defend your claims, maybe you have obtained some evidence after all these years...so go back and address my points

2. earlier you said yoruba traditions are not your source, that the hebrew part of yoruba origin has faded out of yoruba traditions, so tell me now, after saying that what part of your ideas have bearing on yoruba traditions, and what do you know about yoruba traditions exactly? where have you been and what are your contacts in the traditional circle?

3. i sure wasnt chosen for madness

My great prince, let it be clear to you that you are making intellectual progress, because speculations will never become a subject in history, it will always cast intellectual blindness on its adherents. But what shall eventually become celebrated is evidence-based findings buried in the ebbs of time, speculators will never find it. Please don't speculate, just do your best and leave the rest.
exactly! sometimes you see good things but you dont seem to follow your own advice...try to follow this very advice coming from you
stop making speculations in historical matters and passing it off as truth, because i will be there to scrutinize, you cannot come messing up my field

And, does evidence-based findings exist for Yoruba-hebrew connection? 100% yes in affirmation.
what are these evidence-based findings? there should be traditional, linguistic or even genetic... so far we have studied all 3 branches and no hebrew connection proven but maybe those outside the discipline see something historians dont.. in that case you need to answer many questions

Honestly, I sense it that your heart is filled wih goodness ìrè ,so dont let the dark part in every one's life known as ìbí take hold of you, which made copy this little story from from a Yoruba Group. Read and ponder over it:

At the time of Obatala, three people came to him dragging a young man with them and said to him: Babalawo, aboru boyè! This man has murdered our father. nd the following conversation ensued:

Obatala: why did you kill their father?

Young man: I'm a goatherd. My goat ate from their father's farm, and he threw a stone at my goat and he died, so I also took the stone and threw it at their father and he also died.

Obatala: because of this, I pass judgment on your charge of murder by sentencing you to death.

Young man: I ask for 3 days before you execute the judgment. My late father left me some wealth and I have a sister to take care of. If you kill me now, the wealth and my sister will have no guardian.

Obatala: who will stand for your bail?

Young man: into the crowd, he pointed Lamurudu

Obatala: do you agree to stand for him Lamurudu?

Lamurudu: Beeni (yes)

Obatala: You agree to stand for someone you don't know, and if he doesn't return you'll receive his penalty.

Lamurudu: I accept

The young man left but after two days, and into the third day there was still no sign of him.

Everyone was very afraid for Lamurudu who had accepted to receive the penalty of death if the man failed to return.

Just before it was time for dinner, the goat herd appeared looking very exhausted in and he stood before Obatala.

Young man: I have handed the wealth and the welfare of my sister to my uncle and I'm now yours. You may execute the penalty now.

In great shock and surprise, Obatala said: And why did you return after having a chance to escape the death penalty?

Young man: *I was afraid, it will appear that humanity has lost the ability to fulfill promises kept".*

Obatala turned and looked at Lamurudu: And why did you stand for him?

Lamurudu: *I was afraid, it might appear that humanity have lost the will to do good to others."*

These words and events moved the brothers who had wanted justice for their father's death very deeply and they decided to forgive the young goat herd.

In furious anger, Obatala asked "Why?!,"

They said: *We are afraid, it will appear as though forgiveness has lost place in the heart of humanity.*

I have also forwarded this beautifully translated message and passed it to you in fear that *it might appear that reminders towards doing good has lost place in humanity (eda) if I don't.*

For Olodumare's (GOD'S) sake I encourage you to also pass it on, in fear that *it might appear spreading goodwill messages has not lost place in humanity.*

*_Wuwa bi Omoluabi!_*

Least I forget,Obalufon, I hope you see my point as I look at yours.

Precisely , the Yorubas are the only people on the face of Earth called, Èdà'. This is more thicker than èníyán because èdà as a word existed before ènìyán in Yoruba ancient lexicon( èdà+èníyán). We are the children of Èlè'dà,who made us know and understand the concept of ‘Ori'. This is the beginning and the end of Yoruba concept of one's creation and well being.

Despite many people in Yoruba enclave through intetmarriages, Yoruba still stand out as a great ethnicity . Although, we must show humility when need be and must be ready when need be because, Èlèdùmàrè is our God.

I am 100% YORUBA
Eda literally means creature, something created, living being...in that regard
And it goes beyond 'eniyan' as you have rightly said because it invokes the concept of Ori..so everything that has Ori(consciousness) is an Eda, it has nothing to do with being Yoruba or not

How does Yoruba greatness mean Hebrew originhuh

Yoruba called themselves ""eniyan"" The chosen . .You can't be the chosen if you are not yoruba.. Our forefathers pride themselves in that statement ..they see their neighbors as uncivilized animals .
Yoruba call every human being 'eniyan' even the europeans are eniyan because 'eniyan' means 'human'
So trying to twist this to the hebrew 'chosen people' fails here

The Yorubas knew who they were, even if part of their account disappeared in between in the same manner the way metaphysical powers are lost from generation to generation.
this is the only part of your entire post that addresses my question.

So if Yoruba knew of the hebrews and knew we were hebrews before christianity was introduced what is the yoruba name for Hebrews? and what part of Yoruba traditions, in what specific towns is it implied that Yoruba are Hebrews? You said yoruba have oral accounts of migration? migration from where?

surely for you to know these remnant traditions that i and many others do not know, you must have your sources? Kindly direct me to a link or at least a name, lets identify where you got the information from

1. The history of yoruba was partly recorded via their interaction with other groups they met because of yoruba always inplant a footprint in the minds of the kingdoms they once lived.
2. The 12th-13th century acknowledged by a Muslims coverts known as Ibn Battusa mentioned Yoruba in his account before Ahmed Baba in Timbuktu
3. And Yoruba as a people portray a studied group that their history could be linked back to names, people, towns, etc that were said to have vanished over 3000 years ago through Sudan belt.
4. Furthermore, the ancient religious circle' researchers acknowledge traces of non aboriginal narration in the corpus in Odu IFA,when Orunmila's storyline is being narrated by IFA priest's interpreter.
5. The point here is that many methodology are used and still being used in modern times to ascertain authenticity of oral account of people.
I know you still have questions i asked above, but because you wont let us deal with points one step at a time i have to ask more questions
1. Who are the other groups the Yoruba met as they were migrating down to Nigeria? and what part of Yoruba accounts confirm those foreign accounts, it is after all the yoruba that is being talked about, surely the yoruba accounts must give legitimacy to what ever foreign accounts

2. I have never heard of Ibn Battuta mentioning Yoruba in his Rihla account, unless you are referring to the baseless claim that he mentioned Ife as 'Yufi', in which case is completely off. So in what context and to what purpose did Battuta mention Yoruba?
Because even Ahmed Baba is regarded as the first to mention yoruba in a written work

so what part of Ahmed Baba's mention of Yoruba is evidence of a Hebrew origin for Yorubas?

3. What names, people and towns outside yorubaland are the Yoruba linked to? asides maybe places in Igalaland with Ife-prefixes

4. what are these traces of non aboriginal narration in Ifa and who are these researchers?
Orunmila? same Orunmila that i know very well came from Oke-igeti (Yorubaland)
If it is orunmila don't even go there

5. So are you saying Yoruba oral accounts are not authentic?

1. Can you really explain where Yoruba coined or got the fabric called ‘àdìré' ?

2. Do you know that àdiré cogante is also found in ancient Hebrew's account?

3. Do you know the Onifa that acknowledged Àlàrà? Which part of the world did Àlàrà reigned?

4. Do you know the Onifa that acknowledged Àrèsa? Which part of the world did Àrèsà reigned?

5. Do you also know that Yoruba's Ìlù(town-city) also have have same meaning with ancient Hebrew's word, also mentioned in Egypt's account and Akkadian word for town?
1. Adire ... Adi - tie, re - dye
2. ancient hebrew? you realize Adire is not even ancient yoruba. Although i guess 'ancient yoruba' has not been properly defined but anyway what do you even mean by "cognate in ancient hebrew account"? do you mean language or tradition?
3. Orunmila himself acknowledged Alara, Alara is a descendant of Orunmila and reigned in Ekiti
4. Aresa of Iresa you mean? Iresa that is an Oyo town? how is Iresa connected to Hebrews?
5. I dont understand what you mean by "egyptian account"...eh, of course 'Ilu' will have the same meaning of the word for 'town' in any language, 'Ilu' has the same meaning as 'town' like literally.. so what are you saying exactly?

Kindly widen your horizon so as to know what others from different culture know and use it as an added/accrued knowledge, in order to do it better. This was the way of our ancestors....And the rest of the world kept looking for them and try to seek them out. Plainly, the western researchers know who the Yorubas are!
widening of horizon shouldnt mean throwing caution out the window or not questioning people who make claims.

what do you know about the ways of Yoruba ancestors? you are not even involved in isese so what ways do you think you know?

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has counselled the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to pick its presidential candidate from the North West.

He spoke on Friday at the Government House, Ado Ekiti, when he received presidential aspirant, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN.

Turaki had earlier consulted with PDP delegates and elders from the state.

Fayose said: “When we look at the assignments you have carried out, you are not a small man. You have capacity for the job of the president, but power belongs to God.”

Fayose emphasized that it is, “safer and better for PDP to pick its presidential candidate from the North West zone to compete for votes effectively with President Buhari”.

He also appealed that the primary must be transparent and credible

Fayose, however, insisted that the South West zone must be well accommodated in the power balancing equation since the party’s candidates and the national chairman are coming from other parts of the country.

“If you leave South West out, the election would have been lost before voting.”

He noted that Nigerians now appreciate the difference between credible governance under PDP and failure under APC who are notorious election riggers and are now yearning for the PDP to return to power and rescue the country.

The governor recalled his warnings in 2013 prior to the general elections when he raised the alarm that Buhari lacked the capacity for the job, but that he wanted the position of president just for the sake of it.

He noted that part of the reasons given by Buhari for seeking the presidency was to ensure justice, but the governor noted that instead of justice, the president has dished our bitterness to Nigerians.

I thought i already explained how clothes or lack of it has nothing to do with the topic. Even Yorubas do not dress the same way so Igbos dressing differently or not dressing at all is not a factor

btw Igbos are not a Bantu or Semi-Bantu people(if you know what Bantu is)..as i see that is what you are insinuating by mentioning Cameroon and Congo
Another thing you have not thought of is that the Bantu migration started from Nigeria, so if Igbos are Bantu or Semi-Bantu that would make them older residents in Nigeria than even I think

Evolutional gab between yoruba and Ibo is so wide how could you compare .people that are barely clothed still running around naked in the 50s they are called ""Oni Ihooho" Naked people by the Yorubas in the 40s and 50s.. there is no record of yoruba ever roaming around naked . 1. Ibos are later migration from southern African region they are not breed of the great migration of human species .. There are two set of people in Nigerian northern people that migrated down south due to drought and desertification of the Sahara region which was once a fertile land with thriving civilization stretched from the coast of Senegal Mauritanian to Egypt and Sudan now covered under the sand of Sahara desert
I dont think the clothing style of Igbos has anything to do with this...we know very well that Yoruba and Igbo dress differently. So whether Igbos were naked up until recently doesnt mean they couldnt make clothes and are therefore not of the same common ancestry

1. from southern african region? you mean the Bantu expansion went south and at the same time Igbos were coming north? I think we all know Igbos are not Khoisan
2. And you are saying yorubas are among this northern people who migrated to Nigeria? therefore Yorubas are similar to Hausa than the Igbo?

lets examine this one step at a time, no rush.

Can you narrate to me this oral account of migration and what towns speak of these migrations?

Furthermore one of the major reason for the christians to find yoruba history fascinating was the manner at which who is who is known in their historical account. From the kings to the commoners in the acient time. And before now ,there was an account that the whereabout of the Hebrews of ten tribes was unknown when they disappeared in Egypt between the Hykos invasion and when the Hykos were chased out of Egypt, with a population of over 200,000,according to other account ,it is higher so they( researchers) were looking for the ten lost tribe of ancient Hebrew which was documented in Papyrus of Babylonian, Greek Roman, Egyptian and Persian Cuneiform etc.,Do you know how many times Roman Empire and some other European theologists have doctored the Bible to fit in to their skin complexion? Look up King James version for reading sake even if you arent Christian oriented but view the complexion of Hebrews. Do you know geneaology really begun around 15th century in Europe ? This is somethings that has been eternal with Yoruba Race . Unfortunately part of Yoruba history is lost which must be reconstructed. If you doubt, why is Yoruba history centered around Odua the King and Obatala? Meanwhile both men died . What about Orunmila, was he a human being or not ? Who was his father if he was a human being? Did any part of Ifa corpus acknowledged that Orunmila married? As a scholar, if you are among the gods, you will know that this journey has nothing to do with distortion of a well cherished nation like Yorubas but to be place her in a more respected role she need to play in the commodity of nation as the chosen of God whom he , God spoke with their ancestors.

dont you think at some point there was diffusion in yoruba history, I am starting to think yoruba is a the merging of two culture, one aboriginal and indigenous and the other foreign; which makes me think the aboriginal were kind of connected to the ibos or rightly put were a giant cluster until they split of at some point and the foreigner were the dominant group with little or no difference to the indigenous group, only that they have a superior culture that dominated the indeginous group both in language and way of life in general! I think they kind of reconnected back to the beginning where it all started.
there is no evidence of this foreign party; If Yorubaland has two groups of people, one aborigine and the other migrant, Yoruba tradition will not be aborigine-oriented, the traditions of the migrants would actually be fresher than that of the aborigines and therefore stronger but that is not the case. In Yoruba traditions, Ife is the source of humanity, it doesn't get more aborigine than that

mr olu317, this is for you sire. I read somewhere that the hyskos were infact the isrealite of old, that the various pharoahs that reigned in old egypt did not come from a single bloodline or race, that egypt itself has been invaded many times and many pharoahs of different ancestry and bloodlines has ruled there. the reason why I brought this up was because. you said somewhere in ur post that the early hebrew and the ethiopian nubian lived in egypt. the article also was of the opinion that the hyskos were driven out because of their domineering influence in culture and importantly, because of their numerical strenght. maybe they were driven eastward to present day yoruba nation. just a wide guess.

I am anticipating your contributions from you all. maybe we are "subtlely" agreeing on the same thing afterall!
why then do yoruba not know of the hyksos but even the greeks do? so we are the hyksos who ruled egypt but do not even know it?

absoluteSuccess:
1. Because the Christians adopted Hebrew scriptures, the old testaments that detailed Hebrew history and their defunct kingdom in the
Levant region.

2. There are many families with sketchy traditions that you can only understand in details in the Hebrew scriptures, if you agree with them,
but only if you can decipher such traditions' true meaning.

3. Whatever you mean by that, (perhaps you mean that Yoruba came in contact with Islam before Christianity). Well, the hebrew are a people and not a religious organisation. Islam is a religious organisation of the Arabs like Christianity. People teach people religion, but people are born into a race. The race or tribe is kept to the background in religion, the religious ethos takes the lead.
1. huh huh huh This does not answer the question. Why did Yoruba need christianity to expose us to the existence of the hebrews? If we are the lost jews, we would not need a foreign religion, the old testament would already be familiar to Yorubas

2. name these families and their towns. Like i said, Yoruba history is first and foremost family-based, by any means certain families might have come from outside yorubaland, but their traditions would state this and through these families the general yoruba people would be exposed to the existence of the original homeland of these families. the traditions of these, according to you, hebrew families should be understood by them, it is after all their tradition of origin and we should be able to identify them with the Hebrews through these traditions without bringing the bible into this, these traditions should be able to stand alone first before we move to drawing parallels and cross checking for confirmation with Hebrews themselves. for instance when the traditions of the Oyo royal families say their progenitor was a prince from Ife, we clearly have Ife in the traditions, then we know where to look. That is the method, any other thing is rough work, like wuruwuru to the answer in mathematics.

3. Since you claim Yoruba are Hebrews and Hebrews are very important to Islam. There are several hebrews mentioned in the Quran and the Hebrews mentioned as a collective to which the Yorubas should have known that this people talked about in the quran are Yoruba(or ancestors of the Yoruba)

certainly I know for you religion leads, facts are kept in the background that is why you propagate Hebrew supremacy as a non-catholic christian
same way muslims claim arab supremacy

3.b: People have no need for their 'original' history or culture to survive in the ancient time, their migration is a new identity and nationality is of no value the moment you leave your homeland. Your eyes is set to "create new adventure" that becomes your new identity. They were in search of a glory. There is no state that pride itself as the subset of another politically, and America comes to mind.
This is not true of any part of the world, certainly not Yoruba. the yoruba do not forget their original history or culture. Despite the Ugbo people leaving Ife, they still conduct rituals and invite some of the Oluyare people in Ife and vice versa. There will always be reference to the homeland especially when we left people there and know they are still there.
The truth is that if yoruba descended from hebrews we would know it. Oyo came from Ife, Oyo know it and tell of it. It has nothing to do with subservience it is simply knowing where you come from, the details might be left out and forgotten but the name of where you come from will not and names of the ancestors from where they came will continue to resonate and we would know where this place is

The America's founding fathers came from somewhere, but their history is not about where they came from, but who they were as a political entity. Yoruba does not need to be aware of hebrew, it is the various antiquity items within 'ancient Yoruba tradition' that needed to agree with that of 'ancient hebrew tradition. Those with the hebrew connection in Yoruba history are long gone, but their totem is what we are evaluating and re-validating.
If there is any Yoruba tradition that implies a hebrew connection, i mean explicitly citing a hebrew connection not deciphering parallels which can relate to any people on the planet, then Yorubas were indeed aware of hebrews before christianity
it is either we have traditions of hebrews or we do not. Randomly picking one thing and stretching it out to pin hebrew on it doesnt work, because you can do that for any people of the world.

Some Hindsight and My Research Methodology

Ancient people value their new abode than where they are coming from, and their original culture is of no significance to them for survival, compare to human qualities such as bravery, courage, faith and enterprise. Where they are coming from is secondary.

The incoming generation afterwards will reverence their founding fathers 'heroic deeds' than 1. 'the unknown people' before them, and the memory of the earliest people will fade off to sketches and imponderable bits of history. It is the natural order of things.

As the genealogy continues, the founding heroes will equally fade in relevance and remain as totem, statues and as names of shrines. Memories will overlap older memories. However, the phases of history is not completely eroded, if you are an antiquarian.

The Antiquarians' work

The antiquarian need no answer to start. Yoruba need no reason to identify with the hebrew, and the hebrew don't need to identify with the Yoruba. 2. It is "Yoruba traditions" or some imponderable words in Yoruba tradition that needs to agree with "hebrew tradition", or 3. hebrew words agrees with Yoruba words.

When that happens, you isolate and review the two items collectively and objectively. You also continue your findings in various early traditions that may be obscure to social changes, areas that are not often given to indigenization with the passage of time for more items.

If you find the comparison convincing enough, then it becomes a subject of debate, and if you have convincing evidence to proof your point, whoever agree with you is welcome. You can't win everyone to your convictions or conclusion.

If you like to contribute, you are welcome. However, we are old friends and I know your angles and antics. Please be serious.

Thanks.
1. So in other words, Yoruba have no tradition of Hebrew connection? but why perambulate around? If the hebrews have already been forgotten and faded away from Yoruba traditions, then Yoruba traditions is no longer a source. Why then do you contradict yourself in number 2?

3. so taking a linguistic approach. Although "yoruba words agreeing with hebrew words" sounds like patch work , forcing little pieces into unfitting holes. If you are to take a linguistic approach then you must utilize lingusitic methods : Examining the Morphology, Syntax and Semantics of Hebrew and Yoruba
