The only system in nigeria gudluck jonathan rebranded under his leadership was our electoral system which buhari was the beneficiary, a man that suffered a lot under obasanjo to the extend he became violent. Buhari is a bad omen to future nigeria and history will never forget that. APC is leading in bayelsa and kogi, and their supporters are celebrating assuming PDP is on the lead it should been declared inconclusive by now. Buhari is without legacy. He doesn’t care about any legacy. |

This perfectly encapsulates Nigeria at the moment. More ironic, is the fact that the South West, who were part of the key structure that helped remove the military, were a KEY part of the structure that brought in this new Abacha’s era. |

Area4Area: What was actual growth rate for the first and second quarters in 2019? Ghana's economy grew by 6.7% in Q1 of 2019. Ghana's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first quarter of 2019 grew by 6.7% compared to 5.4% recorded for the first quarter of 2018 Nigeria's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 2.01%(year-on-year), in real terms, in the first quarter of 2019. Compared to the first quarter of 2018, which recorded real GDP growth rate of 1.89%, the Q1 2019 growth rate represented an increase of 0.12% points. From Ghana and Nigeria Stats boards respectively. Note that Nigeria's population growth rate far exceeds most countries in Africa, including Ghana. For Q2 do your own research. My point: the mockery is just plain silly. I am sure you know this- like many others here. But Nigerians have a way of distracting themselves from their real issues, using things like comedy and mockery. So continue. |

They took over the road leading to Ogbia Town immediately the results of the 13 units in Ward 9 were announced by electoral officials and APC was declared the winner of the ward.
Some of them flew the flag of APC while others used their brooms to sweep the road saying they had suffered under the current PDP government.
Some of them said they were given as much as N10,000 but that they rejected the money because they were United and determined to vote out PDP.
“We are happy because we won the PDP in all the units” one of them, who failed to mention his name out of excitement said.

Ecstasy154: BY DAVID O ROYAL
President Muhammadu Buhari has explained that 35 aides were not sacked from the Office of the Vice President instead they were redeployed to a new ministry.
The President who fielded questions from NTA State House Correspondent at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, upon his return from a private visit from the United Kingdom described the interpretations of his directives as a sack as ‘unfortunate’.
The President described what happened as a re-organisation and not a sacking, stressing that, a new ministry has recently been created, that is, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
“They said 35 people were sacked in the Vice President’s office but we just created a ministry and we reorganized but people are giving it an ethnic and political dimension. It is unfortunate,” the President said.
It would be recalled that while media report had widely reported the sack of 35 aides including the circulation of a list of those sacked, informed sources insisted that what the President directed was a redeployment and not a sack.
The President’s comment in the NTA interview last night on arrival from his UK private trip indicated that although some Presidential aides had confirmed the sacking of 35 aides, the President only gave express instructions for redeployment to ministries not sacking.
Meanwhile, President Buhari assured Nigerians that he was more energized and ready for work. “We are going to work harder to be accountable and try to make Nigerians see why we do certain things. Accountability from bottom to top is absolutely necessary,” he said.
It would be recalled that some people had reported and claimed that President Buhari had sacked 35 aides in the Office of the Vice President to whittle down the powers and influence of the Vice President.
Some also claimed that the sacking of the 35 aides were to reduce the influence of the Vice President ahead of 2023 elections and were masterminded by a certain cabal with the Presidency.
The Presidency has however always maintained that the President and his deputy, Prof Osinbajo enjoy a very good relationship.

Neurotika: You're still missing the point. How do you hold an investigative journalist 'accountable' for speaking against the ills of an administration. Especially when this same Journalist has been consistent in criticizing regimes preceding the one you have a disturbing nostalgia for? And even gone to Jail severally for such criticisms.
Every sane country knows the importance of opposition especially in the Journalism industry because it's a potent tool to ensure there are adequate checks and balances.
What is wrong with everyone in this country? Suddenly almost everyone is incapable of stringing together a submission rich in sound logic and common sense anymore. His Sahara Reporters spread lies against the previous government- some lies that his Sahara Reporters admitted that were lies. Remember the "GEJ gifts wedding guests gold-plated iPhones" and the photo-shopped iPhones? I am sure you do. You sound smart. When you tell lies, you should be held accountable to them. Being a journalist does not allow you escape that accountabilty. Sadly, people read and acted upon the many lies and we have the most despotic regime in Nigeria as a result. Of course you understand this. Again, you seem smart. If he hadnt met his bail terms, I would support the move that he be held in detention. He has, it clearly seems- at least the DSS have said so. They have gave several embarassing reasons on why he is still held; that there is "no one to pick him", is the top of the pick. They should respect the rule of law and release him- why you do not agree with this simple conclusion from out courts clearly suggests that totalitarian regimes is what you want for the black man. And I wonder why? (It is OK, if you cant publicly say why. Dont feel pressured. I am a democrat) |
Politics › Re: Sowore Speaks From Custody, Says Buhari Out To Destroy Civic Space by madridsta007(m): 2:17pm On Nov 15, 2019 |
Neurotika: lol its funny how people use analogies that suits their bias. In your earlier comment you assert Sowore deserves no pity and he's only reaping the fruits of his labor.
Yet in this recent comment you agree it's improper for the Govt to flaunt court order and not release him.
The import of all these is that your sentimental attachment towards the previous administration has masked your ability to forgive anyone that spoke against its excesses which makes you lack the moral justification to talk about how a white man is mentally superior to a black man.
You're the full definition of everything a black man stands for that has kept us in the doldrums for centuries. I am a very objective person and take out emotions from my statements- something you clearly struggle to do. In my option, Sowore is clearly being held accountable to his role in installing the most despotic regime currently in West Africa and certainly in Nigeria since the return to democracy. An accountability, that everyone who participated in this despotism, yourself included, would "enjoy" at some point in this life. For me, forgiveness should not trump accountability. A society that sees "abeg pity him" as more serious to "let us hold him accountable" normally results in a failed state. E.g Nigeria. Laws are laws. If you do not want to keep laws, then suspend it. Officially declare the state to be a military state. Stop the pretences. You owe the citizens that clarity. HOWEVER, the rule of law transcends my opinion that he be held accountable to this deed. The rule of law is enforced by the courts or, at least, works hand-in-hand. As the courts have ruled that he be released, and has he has met his bail terms, he SHOULD BE RELEASED.I would have assumed this was clear, at least, from my enunciation of the Trump's example. It is sad that, while you appear to understand the importance of the rule of law in upholding democracy, you are unable to see beyond your bias of supporting the continual detention of a man that the courts have asked to be released. This is a pity and a clear indication that you seem not to like the black man's progress in a democracy. A clear indication that for you, totalitarianism and despotism is your preference over democracy. PatheticAnyway, to a more serious question: Any reason why you support despotism and despots over the rule of law? You may have genuine reasons and it would be good to know. I am curious. |

Realdeals: Detained social activist, publisher and politician, Omoyele Sowore, has spoken out from the custody of the State Security Service, telling PREMIUM TIMES he is being held as part of a grand scheme by the Buhari administration to shut down Nigeria’s civic space.
Mr Sowore called a PREMIUM TIMES’ reporter on Thursday afternoon, in a rare move to directly send out a message to the public.
It was a message of courage, defiance and hope for both his teeming supporters and the Nigerian downtrodden people.
The Sahara Reporters’ publisher said he would remain undeterred by the controversial tactics of the current government, which have seen him held in perpetual custody against the order of a federal judge.
Mr Sowore, a former student union activist who confronted military regimes and went to jail for it, was arrested in August in connection with his #RevolutionNow campaign — a series of nationwide protests he had planned with other activists to demand a better Nigeria. The protests were planned to commence on August 5 across 21 towns and cities, with public awareness escalating as the day drew closer.
But suddenly on August 3, armed SSS officers broke into an apartment Mr Sowore was occupying with some of his closest associates in Lagos. He was taken away in the midnight raid that was captured by security cameras. The arrest elicited outrage from Nigerians, with many slamming the SSS’ brutal tactics as yet another state-sponsored violence against unarmed citizens.
Members of the movement also warned that Mr Sowore’s detention — which they deemed illegal and unwarranted — would bolster rather than dampen a wave of resistance to decades of bad governance that many believed had worsened under President Muhammadu Buhari.
Grand plot thwarted Speaking with PREMIUM TIMES from custody, Mr Sowore said the demand for his sureties was an attempt to intimidate them into pulling out.
“Their aim is to intimidate my sureties by subjecting them to undue maltreatment,” Mr Sowore said. “It is part of a grand plot to hold me hostage because they have failed to find anything illegal to pin on me.”
“But we know what they want to do and we will not allow it to happen,” he added.
Although the SSS has repeatedly asserted its respect for the Nigerian judicial and the rule of law in general, the agency has a history of repression, violation of citizens’ rights and disobedience of court decisions.
SSS was the agency at the heart of most allegations of attacks on Nigerians during the brutal military eras of Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha. Several Nigerians were jailed, physically attacked or killed as Mr Abacha moved to clear all obstacles to his authoritarian regime.
Despite attempts to reform the agency as Nigeria attained democracy in 1999, critics say the SSS, founded in 1986, has remained wedded to its brutal and anti-democratic past.
Hale, hearty Mr Sowore lamented that he had “not seen sunshine since he was detained except when taken to court.” Only three people have been allowed to see him since August 3, which includes his lawyers and the person responsible for his feeding.
Even though Mr Sowore said he cannot wait to reunite with his associates and loved ones, he said he had come to a fresh realisation that the SSS would continue to disregard court pronouncements and would not release him anytime soon.
“Last night, they gave us phones and cable TV,” Mr Sowore said. “This indicates that they have no intention of complying with court orders to release me anytime soon.’’
Mr Sowore said he will continue to fight for the downtrodden, and wanted the world to know that the Buhari administration has been stifling civil liberties in Nigeria.
“The world should know that I remain unbroken and in high spirits,” Mr Sowore said. “I will continue to fight for the Nigerian people, ensure that the people are not shortchanged and corruption is driven underground.”
“I will continue to stand up for the downtrodden,” he said.
Mr Sowore said all those who support him should not be discouraged because the masses will prevail in the battle against anti-democratic forces.
“The ultimate mission is to intimidate all critical voices and shut down the nation’s civic space,” Mr Sowore said. “But this will not happen and we shall overcome.”
https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/363012-sowore-speaks-from-custody-says-buhari-out-to-destroy-civic-space.html No regret yet from Sowore in his role in installing the most despotic regime Nigerians has had since the return to democracy. He is only eating the fruits of his labour. However, the rule of law transcends my choice of him being accountable. He should be released if he has met his bail conditions. |

ZooOga: Amazing how some ppl expect support from the British government which is total meltdown because of the continued Brexit boondoggle. A rudderless Nigeria serves the interest of the British. Same with all colonial masters. That’s why they helped to ensure a government which was leading the third fastest growing economy in the world was removed. If Nigeria was growing at that rate, she will begin to loose the need to depend on the British for anything; she will begin to throw her weight around Africa and West Africa and dictate not just her foreign policy, but the foreign policy of other nations. That’s detrimental to the British and the French, so GEJ had to be regime-changed. Whitehall couldn’t allow it. Macron was having to support a Paul Biya by the hand, as the frail 7-term Cameroonian leader made his way towards the Elysee Palace yesterday. They would never allow or support a bright; young, pan-Africanist leader in their former(?) colonies. The British would rather have Buhari lead for a third and fourth term. It serves their interest. |

Shaprara: Not a fan of polls but would be nice if the conservatives hold. Not a fan of the Conservatives. They only do well when there’s strong labour opposition. |
