fergie1989: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says Nigeria has the second largest number of child brides in the world, with 23 million girls and women married out as children in the country, thereby ending their educational strive.
Mr Bhanu Pathak, Chief of Field Office (CFO) UNICEF Nigeria, Bauchi Field Office, stated this in Bauchi on Saturday at a Youth Talk ceremony organised in commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
“Too many Nigerian children and young people are being left behind, especially when it comes to education.
“Nigeria has the world’s highest number of out-of-school children; more than 10.5 million Nigerian children are not in school.
“Nigeria also has the second largest number of child brides in the world with 23 million girls and women married as children, and as such, ending their education,” said Pathak.
He reiterated UNICEF’s resolve to foster a stronger partnership with the Nigerian government at the federal and state levels for the realisation of children’s rights.
In his remarks, Mr Sagir Musa, the President, Youth Advocates For Education, Bauchi, said, the challenges of young people included high rate of unemployment, lack of basic life skills, drug abuse, political thuggery and illiteracy among others.
He commended the state government for collaborating with UNICEF, Bauchi Field Office, to organise such forum which gave young people the opportunity to have their voices heard and take decisions on matters that affected their lives.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the ceremony was organized by UNICEF and Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
The Youth Talk, which is tagged ‘The Nigeria We Want: Voices from Bauchi’, was sponsored by United Kingdom Department For International Development (DFID), with participants from six states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Plateau and Taraba States.
Source>>>http://www.ogbeta.ng/2019/11/nigeria-is-worlds-number-2-in-child.html This is sad. Nigeria should do better. Nigeria should be aiming for World Number 1. I believe this must be priority for MBuhari and Osinbajo. We can't be second best in this most important aspect of development. |

You have allowed your self-centeredness and inability to form alliances rob you of the place that could have been yours in the affairs of things. If now it's an Igbo man that is at the center of the storm, you start screaming that no one loves you, that you are being victimized and marginalized... Self-centeredness. Incurable hedonism.
And do you really think an Igbo man will emerge in 2023, or 2027, or 2030... You see, how gloomy the picture is for you. I really don't blame those who say Igbos will never again rule this country, not until you learn how to join hands in building it.

Travel › Re: Air Peace Introduces B737-800 New Generation Aircraft Into Its Operations(photos by madridsta007(m): 5:46pm On Nov 08, 2019 |
Anambralstson: Nigeria's leading carrier, Air Peace, has brought in a B737-800NG to help sustain its expansion, domestic and regional operations. The aircraft arrived the Murtala Mohammed International Airport at about 20.00hrs yesterday (Thursday) from Europe.
Disclosing this to newsmen yesterday, a Corporate Communications Executive of the airline, Mr. Stanley Olisa, stated that the new arrival is a 160 seater aircraft comprising 16 Business Class seats and 144 economy class seats. He said, "We are very glad to announce the acquisition of another aircraft, which is a 160-seater B737-800 New Generation aircraft".
He reiterated the resolve of the airline to spread its operations across the length and breadth of this country to ease the burden of travel within the country and the West African sub region.
Air Peace, West and Central Africa's largest airline, last year became the first airline in sub Saharan Africa to place a firm order for 10 B737 Max. The airline earlier this year made an order for 20 brand new 124 seater E195-E2 jets from Embraer thereby making history as the launch customer of this new aircraft in the entire Africa.
It would be recalled that Air Peace, 2017, became the first airline to acquire and register a Boeing 777 in Nigeria. It had gone on to acquire more three 777s for its international operations which it kick started on July 5, 2019, with flight operations to Dubai through the Sharjah International Airport. The airline is poised to take, very soon, on more international routes like, London, Houston, Johannesburg, Bombay, Guangzhou, etc.
The airline thanked Mr. President for creating the enabling aviation environment that made it possible for the airline to achieve this feat within a very short time of its existence. Mr. Olisa disclosed this when he said, "our Chairman, Mr. Allen Onyema, is eternally grateful to President Buhari for making it possible for Air Peace to become what she is within the four years of President Buhari's regime through the zero tax regime on imported commercial aircraft and aircraft spares introduced by his administration".

AutoReportNG: BUHARI, OSINBAJO WILL, TOGETHER, SCRIPT A GLORIOUS FUTURE FOR NIGERIA
The Presidency wishes to confirm that there is, on-going, an unprecedented overhaul of the nation’s seat of government, arising from which a number of political appointments have either been revoked or not renewed in the Second Term.
The exercise, which has been ordered by the President, is to streamline decision-making, cut down multiple authorities and reduce the cost of administration.
It is also an appropriate response to the general perception that the Presidency has an oversized and bloated workforce which acts as a drag on efficiency.
As may have been noticed by discerning members of the public, a number of political appointees among the few that served in the office of the President were not returned for the Second Term.
The office of the Vice President, His Excellency Yemi Osinbajo has, in compliance with the directive of the President, equally been shed of a number of such appointees.
In carrying out these exercises, the overriding objective is to save taxpayer money and deliver needed service to the public. As far as the President is concerned, there is no scope for an excuse for administration after getting a huge mandate to run the country for four more years.
In the light of this, the Presidency wishes to strongly deny rumours of a rift between President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. The relationship between the two leaders remains excellent and trusting. Together, they will script a glorious future for the nation.
The media reports of a soured relationship are originating from the minds and mouths of mischief makers, who are desperate for entertaining stories from the Aso Rock Villa with which to titillate the public. This ulterior motive is the basis of the wrong interpretation given to the recent exercise in the Presidency.
There has been a streamlining of staff going on for a while. The President has always had fewer staff than the Vice President, and there were always plans to reduce the number of staff at the Villa.
The streamlining was not personal or targeted to undermine the Vice President's office, as the so-called insider sources quoted by the media appear to make it seem.
The President is in absolute control of his government. The media should stop attributing non-existent powers to some people. There cannot be anyone too powerful for President Buhari to control.

Micholawoye: Good morning Nairaland family. I have noticed that some pastors will tell unemployed single men to marry and that when they get married and start having kids, that things will begin to get easier for them in life.
Sometimes they say things Luke when you get married, the star of the woman and yours work together to make things easier and give you better things in life.
I used to laugh at this until about a month ago and a pastor I know told me the same thing. Please how true is this? I need advice from people with such experiences. Pardon my English please.
Thank you and God bless. I think this is a terrible advise and, truly, some Pastors give this advice quite a lot. Normally, when you succumb to the "advise", they will quickly suggest one "Sister" to you to marry and, "boom!" the wedding is conducted. The courtship time is so short just in case you want to change your mind. Your eyes will open when you marry and are jobless . You will understand the HUGE responsibility that comes with and from marriage. But by then, it is too late. Adam did not "marry" Eve when he was jobless. He had a job as a Gardner, Horticulturist, an Onomatologist and perhaps a Farmer. Perhaps, the reason why the snake did not find him idle (as he was working) and looked for the idle person to tempt= Eve. Young men please, please please, get a job first before you get a wife. Common sense. |
