Sports › Re: Wonderkid Fati: From African Suburb To Barcelona's Camp Nou by madridsta007(m): 6:09pm On Sep 20, 2019 |
References: Ansu Fati has made a long trip from the fields of Guinea-Bissau, where he played as a child, to Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium where the 16-year-old is playing with some of the biggest stars in the world.
Fati's has made a stirring start to the season, scoring just two minutes into his full La Liga debut on a magical night when he hardly put a foot wrong in front of over 80,000 astonished Camp Nou fans who gave him a standing ovation as he left the field.
He was just seven years old when he first came to Spain and his startling talent meant he was invited to join Barcelona's prestigious youth academy 'La Masia' aged 10.
It was an incredible achievement for a boy from the impoverished West African nation that has never been known for football.
In Sao Paulo, his home neighbourhood in the rundown suburbs of capital Bissau, the children yell "Ansu Fati, Barca player!" as they run around on ochre soil, under the tropical trees.
Malam Romisio, who coached Fati as a child, told AFP how the boy used to play football wearing only socks or plastic sandals, easily dribbling the ball past bigger, stronger teammates.
When Fati made his debut with Barca's first team at the end of August, the coach switched his allegiance from Real Madrid.
"If he continues like this, he will be a great player," he predicted.
In Guinea Bissau, which is one of the world's poorest and most fragile nations, Fati is a source of national pride.
Born on October 31, 2002, he lived in Bissau until he was six.
In the house where he grew up, Fati's uncle Djibi Fati shows photos of the footballer as a child, dressed in traditional clothes, recalling how others used to tease him for his love of bread and butter.
"Every time he came back from playing football, he would ask for it," he recalls.
- Family divided, reunited in Spain -
When he was still very small, his father, Bori Fati, went to Portugal to look for work, later settling near Seville in southwestern Spain.
Bori picked olives, collected empty glasses in nightclubs and even helped build a high-speed rail track, recalls Amador Saavedra, who befriended him in Herrera, some 100 kilometres (60 miles) north of Malaga.
It was only when the Communist mayor of Marinaleda, a nearby town, hired Bori as a driver and helped him financially, that he managed to bring his young family over in 2009.
"It's a very beautiful story," said Saavedra, 53.
Bori ended up training his young son at the Peloteros football school, which is free for thousands of children in Herrera and the surrounding towns.
- Cheerful but quiet -
When Fati arrived he quickly caused a sensation on the football pitch, said Jordi Figaroa Moreno, his first Spanish coach.
"He had a gift," he told AFP. "The difference between him and his teammates was just huge, both technically and tactically. Among the youngsters, it's rare to find children who can play as a team, but he had everything."
Jose Luis Perez Mena, who runs the Peloteros school, described Fati as "very spontaneous" and "very cheerful" as well as "extroverted, but very quiet".
His stellar success "has not gone to his head".
Within a year of arriving in Spain, Fati joined Sevilla. In 2012, at the age of 10, he was enrolled in Barcelona's youth system.
"Ansu was one of the youngest players ever to have entered La Masia," said Marc Serra, his first coach at Barcelona.
"From the day that he arrived he was different, the type of player who invents football."
- 'Mind-blowing' -
In August, the teenager became the youngest player to score for Barcelona in La Liga. This month he became the club's youngest player in a Champions League match.
Spain's national coach Robert Moreno described Fati's debut for Barcelona as "mind-blowing". Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde spoke of him as a "balanced boy" who is "at ease with himself".
"We want him to learn to know himself, to know the first division, so he sees that it is hard and how much work and dedication it will take to succeed," he said.
Speaking to Spain's Onda Cero radio last month, his proud father said he had taught Fati to "be respectful and happy with everyone".
"Every day I tell him: 'This is your job: when you have the ball, turn towards the goal, don't look anywhere else, and just shoot."

Hate speech and criticism are two things far apart. Prof Soludo actually criticized the government within reasonable parameters, and today he has been appointed. When hatred becomes mistaken for criticism such society is planning to kill itself gradually. Is “Jonathan is Clueless” criticism or hate speech? Is “GEJ Government is destroying the North”, criticism or hate speech? Is “GEJ Government travelling to Niger and Chad to plan more Boko Haram attacks”, criticism or hate speech? Is “GEJ has a sniper list”, criticism or hate speech? I can go on and on. If this regime cannot take it, why did they give it? In all, they sound very childish and foolish. bilms: Kwara State Governor and his 26 years old commissioner
By Abdulrazaq Hamzat
At the age of 22, Shamma Al-Mazrui was appointed as a Minister at the United Arabs Emirate (UAE) in Feb. 2016, making her the youngest member of the UAE Cabinet.
At the time of her appointment 3 years ago, she's 4years younger than Joana Kolo, a 26 years old commissioner nominee by the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
Today, Shama is 25years old and one of the most active ministers in the UAE.
In Australia however, the youngest minister is Wyatt Roy, who was only 25years old, when he was appointed.
Unlike Shama, who is currently serving in a youth focused ministry as minister of youth in UAE, Roy on the other hand is heading one of the most powerful ministries in Australia, as the minister of innovation.
These are examples of young people without experience, doing greatly when given leadership responsibility.
Few days ago, the progressive Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq also nominated a 26years lady, Joana Kolo as a commissioner in the state, throwing young people across Kwara into wild jubilation.
Many are excited and are celebrating, because for the first time in a long time, Kwara State now have a governor who not only value young people genuinely, but will also fulfil all promises made to them during the electioneering campaign.
By nominating Joana to serve as a commissioner in Kwara State, Governor Abdulrahman is simply fulfilling his promise of making his administration youth driven.
It should be recalled that during the electioneering, Governor Abdulrahman repeatedly promised the young people of Kwara State that his government would give priority to youths and even after assuming office as governor on may 29, he repeatedly re-echoed the promise, signifying his determination to fulfil it.
Like a man, whose words can be taken to the bank for cash, Governor Abdulrahman has fulfilled another of his promises by nominating a youth, in the real sense of it as a commissioner.
However, there are people not happy with this development.
It has been observed that some political players in the state are raising concerns about the nomination of this young lady as a commissioner. Their argument is that, she is too young and too inexperienced to bring any value to the government.
While their concerns is worthy of note, i think it is not appropriate to conclude on a person, before knowing the person.
The real question we should be asking is that, what is wrong with nominating a 26years old commissioner? Is there really anything wrong with that? Does she not meet the required academic qualification? Is there any law that has been violated as a result of her nomination? So, what exactly is wrong with her nomination?
I am of the view that, those who have already marked Joana's script, even before she enters the exam hall are doing so for their own reasons, not necessarily out of concerns for the state.
Their opinion about her is of no value because the governor who nominated her knows the value she is bringing to his government.
Whether or not, she can perform, will only be tested after she has been given a chance, which the governor has rightly given her.
It is also important to note that, the will of a man, will always make a way for him.
The determination to succeed supersedes all ages and experiences and Joana's young age, and perceived inexperience are not a minus, if she's prepared to succeed.
So, let me conclude that, if Jean Claude Duvalier can become the president of Haiti at the age of 19 and succeed, if Valentine Strasser can become the president of Sierra Leone at the age of 25 and succeed, if Michel Micombero can lead Burundi successfully at the age of 25, certainly, Joana Kolo can aswell succeed as a commissioner in Kwara, if given the required support.
*Abdulrazaq Hamzat is the Convener of Kwara Must Change.* You haven’t really said anything of note. Just conjectures. What’s her experience? Her qualifications even if by affidavit? Her life’s vision? Who she sees as mentors? Leadership books she’s read? Her leadership experience? You’ve said nothing. You’ve not helped the young lady. I’m sure there are reasons that should see her do great in the role, but you haven’t outlined them. Are you a motivational speaker? |

Starke: I am a young professional sharing a room and parlour self contain with a friend. Now my friend has always been in the habit of bringing all sorts of girls to the house. This is a conduct which I have tried my best to ignore in order to allow peace to reign.
At some point he brought this particular girl and she stayed for sometime with us. From my conversations with her, she has an impressive body count and really dislikes condoms. At some point, she became very sick. Had white patches in her mouth and was very feverish. We had to take her to the hospital so she doesn't die in the house. The Doctor ran several tests on her and her HIV status was positive.
About a week later, I took my laptop to work and when I returned, I dipped my hands in the bag to retrieve my key only to be severely cut by a razor blade my roommate left in the bag. I asked him who owns it and he said he it belongs to the girl and he put it there hoping to dispose of it later. My heart bled. I rushed that night at about 9:45pm to Ikoyi military hospital to get PEP, but the hospital said I have to wait until the next day as the pharmacy had closed. The next morning at about 11:00am, after a lot of delay, I finally got the anti retroviral drugs.
Now after taking the drugs for about 3 days, the side effects were terrible and unbearable. I already had a subsisting kidney problem and the drugs was making it worse so I had to stop. What I want to know is what are my chances if I permanently discontinue the drugs? Am I going to seroconvert? I am scared shitless and if this happens to make me HIV+, I am seriously considering suicide.
Pls help me people.
Pls help me to move this post. I need to get as much input as possible. The virus doesn’t survive outside its host for long. So unless you slept with the girl, taking antiretroviral drugs is a very foolish thing to do. What are you attempting to kill? Malaria virus? You didn’t even take a HIV test?! Are there parts missing in your story? |

bellachibaby: Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo said he deserves to end his soccer career with more Ballon d’Or awards than Barcelona counterpart Lionel Messi and hopes to establish himself as the greatest player of all time.
Ronaldo, 34, has won the renowned France Football magazine trophy for the world’s best player five times – as many as Messi – but is eager for more as he moves into the twilight of his career.
“Messi’s in the history of football,” Ronaldo told broadcaster Piers Morgan in an interview with Britain’s ITV on Tuesday.
“But I think I have to have six or seven or eight to be above him,” he said, referring to the Ballon d’Or awards.
“I’d love it, I think I deserve it.”
The Portugal captain said he was no friend of the Argentine, but credited his rival for helping push him further in his own career.
“My relationship with him is, we are not friends, but we have shared this stage for 15 years,” Ronaldo said.
“I know that he has pushed me to be a better player and I have pushed him to be a better player as well.”
Ronaldo, who also played for Manchester United and Real Madrid, has five UEFA Champions League winners’ medals and led Portugal to victory at the 2016 UEFA European Championship and 2019 UEFA Nations League tournaments.
“I don’t follow the records, the records follow me. I’m addicted to the success, and I don’t think it’s something bad, I think it’s good,” Ronaldo said.
“It motivates me. If you’re not motivated, it’s better to stop.”

The burden of proof is on you, not me. I gave your the Buhari/Atiku clear analogy. It is either you missed that or you couldnt counter it. Western intervention gave birth to Buhari in 2015; it is a normal pattern in interventionsm, same process, the use of local partners (popularly called opposition figures) for the same outcome. Regime change. Sometimes, it ends quite bloody as in the case of Syria, Iraq and Libya, sometimes it is prolonged as in the case of Hongkong, sometimes there is a seemingly bloodless transition as in the case of Nigeria. Only "seemingly" as the goal is always to disrupt economies, alignment with the "wrong foriegn interests",etc. So in moving from the top 3 growing economies in the world (CNN Money, 2015 assessment) to the World Poverty Capital, the goal is achieved, seemingly "bloodlessly". You want "proof"? lol, I am writing a journal paper on these sort of interventions in the Global South. Once it is published, I will put the link here. It will be your proof and you can disagree with the editors. |

MediaGuru36: A Nigerian lady has revealed the 'modus operandi' of the alleged serial killers on the lose in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, Igbere TV reports.
This comes barely 24 hours after another female victim was found dead in an hotel room in the city of Port Harcourt, on Sunday.
At least, 10 ladies have been reportedly killed under similar circumstances, within the space of few months all in Port Harcourt.
According to the Twitter user, who shared the tips in a tweet sighted by Igbere TV, the killers are ritualists who pose as potential customers to unsuspecting victims.
According to her, most of their victims (all females) are online vendors who are usually lured to the hotels to deliver "pay on delivery" wares.
She also claimed that the killers(male) usually use a lady to communicate with the "vendors", making it look really unsuspicious.
She said such "vendors", upon arrival at the hotels, are lured to the rooms by the female posing as customer, with flimsy excuse of being too lazy to walk, or not dressed up.
When asked by her followers how she managed to gather such information, she claimed a friend who was lucky not to have fallen victim, shared the story.
According to the story, the lady overheard a male voice at the background of the telephone conversation with her suppose female buyer.
She claimed her friend heard a male voice whispering to her suppose customer 'tell her to come to the room', which made her to quickly exit the premises.
