yok: MSCI ADDITION FOR 9 MAY 2018/GENERAL MARKET COMMENT
Yesterday’s disposal by MSCI has put paid to my intention of buying ant stock for this week. As a participant in the market, I cannot argue with the market. Therefore, temporarily I switch back to selling mode again.
If it was prior to my following the fund, by now I will be thinking some stock are cheap due to the fact that they are trading at a lower price, now I know better. For today, may be for the next 3 working days, I see Unilever Nigeria going under heavy firing.
Market always tell us what it will do. For example this year 2018 financial year end is not for Dangote Flour Mills, except something exceptional happens, at a point in time those of us holding this equity just have to sell, best selling time should be prior to the release of the 2nd Quarter result.
This is not time for panicking just wait for your favourite stock to hit a good support level and buy. This time around fundamentals matter.

onegentleguy: The number of commercial transactions that are now denominated in foreign easily convertible currencies, especially the US Dollar, has astronomically increased in the last decade. ...mostly due to the benefit of retaining earnings in US Dollars, as opposed to the Naira, which is the national currency in Nigeria. One of such opportunity is the benefit of quick arbitrage that comes with shorting the system with a view to making some gains from FX differential. ...and since the managers of companies are increasingly becoming smarter/wiser, they've sought some of these means in their many quest to explore several channels to increase their earnings.
Again the International Financial Reporting Standards (...I think IFRS IAS 21) requires a foreign currency transaction to be recorded, on its initial recognition, in the functional or national currency of the concerned company, applying the spot FX rate at the date of the transaction. IFRS IAS 20 goes further to require that at the end of each reporting accounting year-end, the foreign currency monetary items are required to be converted into the functional or national currency using the closing FX rate for the currency of the transaction.
Any resulting exchange rate difference (ie the FX rate at the date of the transaction and the FX rate at the close of the transaction) whether a profit or a loss, are required to be recognized in the Accounting Books of the company at the date when they each arise. ...and where the transaction is a continuing one, IFRS requires such investment to be initially recognized under Other Comprehensive Income and reclassified to a profit or loss position on the disposal or completion of the transaction or investment.
In summary, assets and liabilities are required to be translated and booked at the FX rate, at the end of the accounting period of each transaction. ...Income and expenses are required to be translated at the FX rate existing on the dates of each of these events. And lastly, FX rate differences are recognized under Other Comprehensive Income and subsequently reclassified to the Profit and Loss Account on the disposal or completion of the FX related transaction.
Hope this helps.
Regards. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm |

yok: MSCI ADDITION FOR 20 TO 24 APRIL 2018/GENERAL MARKET COMMENT
MSCI has dropped Forte Oil from its portfolio. This joins the like of PZ, Seplat etc which were formerly in the portfolio, but have now been dropped. We do not need to panic about this, it has been in the fund’s agenda for a long time, FCMB was equally dropped before being added again. To refresh our memory look at this: http://www.punchng.com/msci-review-forte-oil-fbnh-guinness-pz-others-dropped/ Going back Forte oil was added into the fund around 2014- https://www.proshareng.com/news/Investors%20NewsBeat/Forte-Oil-and-ETI-Plc-included-in-MSCI-Frontier-Market-Index/23222
Then for those who are afraid of OANDO going down, just put a limit order to sell at NGN9.14 immediately this morning I such that if the order is already sitting in the market before the open, you will be able to sell.
Was the fund the Jonah in the bull “boat” for Forte oil? We fold our arms to watch.
Caution: This is for information purpose only. Data used are assumed to be correct. However, you may want to verify the data from an appropriate source. I would love to know who might have bought the FO they disposed of cos they are big institutional investors and will only sell to big institutions like themselves |

...Possible but with a very slim chance of success. most times i sell during earning season to rebuy bck later @ lower price...I have always imagined that most buyers during earning season buy for dividend as price starts to fall rapidly bck to support level after exdiv date for most stocks.... |

RabbiDoracle: Some things don't add up in the report. Is this FORTE OIL or FORTE POWER?
Let's look at the breakdown of the revenue and cost of sales .
For Power generation: Revenue=N 36.613b Cost of sales= N23.648b
Then gross profit= N12.965b
For Fuel, chemical, lube and grease(core business): Revenue=N92.83b Cost of sales= N81.679b
Then gross profit= N11.151b
From the P & L account,
Non- controlling interest =N8.458b (after tax deduction ooo)
And on notes 21, non- controlling interest means that for Geregu power plant, Bureau of Public Enterprise has 49% stake. For Amperion Power Distribution, BSG Resources Limited has 38% stake and Shanghai Municipal Electricity Power Company has 5% stake.
So in both cases Forte oil should have more than 50% stake in the operation of the power plant and the distribution company.
Now if the non-controlling interest is 8.458b after tax, this is 65% of the gross profit from power generation. Where is Forte oil's stake in the power generation?
If the bulk of the PAT goes to non-controlling interest, this shows that much of the profit is from power generation. How about the fuel, chemical, lube and grease?
Do we still need to call this company Oil? It should be POWER!!! Current price, fx user, Pa elewumi, manni,Agba, wannajo et al abeg make una comment o! I am heavily pregnant here o! |

You will mostly see the differences in this oil@ cold temprature but here in Nigeria where temprature rarely goes below 23c, there is really no difference, in fact thats even when u need more viscosity in d oil else the oil evaporates easily |

All this we have in abundance and nobody thanks and appraise the poor farmers in our rural areas....But very soon we shall have rice, meat , milk(all GMO) etc probably farmed by an individual making him stupendously rich and then we wonder where the diseases ravaging our world is coming from |
