If there is an inflation based on significant increase in minimum wage, all the prices will increase because of increased demand. You are talking to someone that had As in Economics even in college at Micro and MacroEconomics. When the prices increase due to increase demand, what will happen to those not making minimum wage, they go further into poverty so civil servants can be OK.

Another idiotic statement. The US Minimum wage is $7.25...$1160 per month...that is not enough to pay monthly rent in some places even a 1 bedroom apartment. When you think, at least don't speak ignorantly. Minimum wage is not based on the most expensive area. If you are not making enough to live in Lagos or Abuja, its called relocation.

Raising the minimum wage significantly will increase inflation and prices of everything will go up leading back to square one....but you don't know that because your brain is domiciled in Nigeria and you think wisdom is local.

If the Govt is proposing N54,000...that is N108,000 per month and N1.296m per year.

Breakdown

Rent/Housing - N400,000 (Max) if you are at the bottom of the scale

School - Public Schools - N100,000 (N10k per month)

Food - N350,000 (N30k per month)

Transportation - N300,000 (N30k per month) - minus leave

Electricity - N60,000 (N5k per month)

Data - N48,000 (N2k per month per person)

Others - N38,000 (N3k Per month)....You can save more if you choose lower RENT (Room and Parlor is enough to Start a Family - ONE Bedroom FLAT)

Keep in mind...this is for 2 people at the LOWEST part of the SCALE with a child. Most people should not marry unless they have upped their level at their places of work and this couple should also have something on the side to do that is bringing in money...and if you plan to have another child, space them ...4-5yrs, income would have increased and so on.

I remember speaking to a friend...stop stressing over your husband doing this or that, not paying school fees or chatting with other ladies...save, help with the expenses and let the sleeping dog lie. Govt should reduce its presence and support private hospitals...then subsidize low income. We need better well managed private hospitals that is accessible to all. Govt Hospitals are over bloated, underfunded, with some of the staff...showing little or no commitment to work.

Landlord is not using it, but you want him to keep replacing...its OK...all Landlords, gather here and start charging Borehole maintenance fees...if they spoil it 3 times...charge for 5 repairs. If you replace it, increase their maintenance fees.

The Landlord invested in his properties and rented the HOUSE...with pumping machine as an added amenities...for your use and convenience. That is not good enough. You can spoil it monthly, not take good care of it, not care if its on or off...but he should replace and repair. and some of you want to become Landlord some day ...Amen LOL.

Very plausible...cos my Dad's place ...within 2 yrs, Electricity estimated billing went up to over N100k. In addition, the DisCos guy was collecting cash from the tenants. Now, we have installed prepaid meters. My other tenants pay N10k per year for a common prepaid meter per year...we had to reduce it to N5k because they still have so many units after 1yr. So PrePaid Meter is the way to go. If you are with IBEDC, this is how you get PrePaid Meter.

1. Go to https://msms.ibedc.com/map/ and with your old account, you can apply for MAP ID.
2. Then follow the process or go to their office
3. They will check if you have balances and move it to the new account
4. You might need to bribe them to come out to do a Tech Evaluation...sadly they can be useless.
5. Once Billing and Tech Evaluation is done, pay ONLINE...don't be a fool and pay into individual's account
6. Once payment is confirmed online, they will install your PrePaid Meter within 10 business days.

Do NOT wait on them. They will keep telling you they don't have prepaid meters. They told my DAD and we have installed over 20 prepaid meters after their excuses and lies.

I stay in Aba. The hype that came with the commissioning of geometric has not lived up to expectation. Only few areas who are in the minority are enjoying regular power supply from geometric power station while the rest are under epileptic supply sourced via TCN.

About two weeks I went to a place near Ngwa road, Ogwo road, I noticed that Aba power has started free mass metering in areas that have been connected to geometric.

My observation is that DISCOs will not generate much revenue if all customers have prepaid meters when the power is epileptic and insufficent. They prefer estimated billing, because they can generate revenue for supplying darkness. But if power is sufficient and stable, they will do free mass metering to generate much revenue.

There are 3 shops in our compound that share a prepaid meter. About a month ago, their balance was 4.10kwh. The credit has not exhausted because of poor supply. If it was estimated bill, they would have spent 10,000 in just 2 months.

This is good progress..as long as they make the process seamless ..clear and transparent, it should be fine. Most people would think they can get funds right away to buy a house, but you cannot qualify for that much at the onset. Govt needs to start sanitizing people about it. The funds will be paid back and deducted from salaries but you can take the credit to pay for housing and it should be paid directly to the landlords, for school fees paid directly to the schools and so on.
