Guys,

Let us put our theological position aside for a minute, for the sake of humanity,  and discuss more on the stupidity of humans.

Athiests and theists can both acknowledge the fact that the desperation of people knows no bounds and that the issues that we really need to discuss right here  is how a right-thinking person will give that much money to a man who seem to have much already.
It is not sheer stupidity even thought that is just what it is. . .It is a product or indoctrination and conditioning which is what religion is all about and highly promotes. . . .When it comes to religion common sense goes off the window while stupidity and share ignorance is promoted, encouraged and tagged as faith. . . .

The reason this woman gave 30grand US dollars to a person way much richer than her (assuming it wasn't staged managed) is the same reason why a suicide bomber will gladly lay down his life. or a Hindu man will drop all his life savings to a Guru. . . . .Indoctrination is the word here.

Hey Bro, thanks for the wonderful question.

Later on, I will explain, that contrary to the white man's lie that Christianity had not come to Africa , until their appearance, Christianity had indeed reached Africa.

I will show you ample evidence later on.

For now though , bear this bible verse in mind.

"But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man." - Hebrews 2:9

Thanks.
When did christianity reach, Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Congo, Cameroun, Malawi, Zambia, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda etc?

Man's imaginations at their best can only equal God's foolisheness. There is nothing new under the sun. . . nothing that man can cook up that will surprise God.
As a matter of fact, they first existed in heaven. Man only gets to pick up these things in his imagination as God grants him access.

The TVs we have on earth are only shadows of the high-powered virtual screens in heaven. How do you think God's children see visions; many times clearer and brighter than any physical appearance can be? The spiritual does give birth to the Physical.
How do you think God will show you a playback of all your sins on that day?

Talk about automobiles? Did you not read that a chariot of fire came down to pick Elijah up to heaven?
These so-called inventions are only a pigment of the vast wisdom of God granted to man.
Yeah, just as Prophet Mohammed divided the moon into two halves and Zeus used his spear to strike the stars. . . .So there are high powered visual screens in heaven , eh?. . .Interesting. . .

Pretty bad. I think there are some people who are reasonable and won't discriminate but it's more likely there'll be outright discrimination against you simply because of the fact that you're atheist. Case in point: I recently have been keenly following evolutionary arguments. I'm actually a YEC/ID'st but I do like to know the latest happenings for the sake of knowledge. Some of my mates who saw such material started calling me an atheist and one in particular accused me of being unsure of my existence. That simply because of the fact that I was browsing a topic that's hints at atheism. This experience gave me a small bit of what it feels like to be an atheist but to be candid I was disappointed because I expected them to ask before coming to conclusions.

This topic doesn't apply to atheist's alone it also applies to free-thinkers (not atheists but anyone irrespective of ideologies who is willing to consider others ideas not minding their ideological bias), people who think outside the box and are unwilling to be bound to socio-cultural norms. It is through the likes of these that societies have progressed.
Professing unbelief in things like witches and wizards is enough to get you in trouble in some part of Nigeria. . . .Atheism i just a no no in that backward society. . . . .

I throw the same challenge to you, perform a miracle in your God's name so that we know he is NOT imaginary. . . .

Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son; if you ask anything in my name, I will do it. John 14 :12-14

I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.  Matthew 21:21

Mark 11:24:
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

Here it is from your book of lies and mythology. . .Its says whatever you ask in your God's name and you believe it will happen. .  .The bible is VERY clear as to how prayers are supposed to work, belief is ALL you need. . .If you believe in Jesus then you should be able to perform all the wonders he did and PROMISED those of you that believe in his stories. . .  .

I have a friend that is an amputee PLS pray to your Jesus to restore his amputated limbs as PROMISED or REMAIN a LIAR and a DELUDED fellow just like the deluded fellow that wrote those passages in the bible, no time to waste talking about what created the universe etc, lets take the bible by its promises and how its supposed to work. . . . .I have thrown the challenge show us that the bible is not the writings of deluded men and also show us that your   that your God is not imaginary. . . .

tbaba12345:
Actually we have enough evidence to conclude on that

I only request that you read with a critical but open mind;

So we have established 4 possibilities for the existence of our universe:

1. Created or brought into being from nothing
2. Self caused or self created
3. Created or brought into being by something else that began to exist
4. Created or brought into being by a non-created or un-caused entity

Now let's examine each:

Created or brought into being from nothing

We know the universe couldn’t have come out of nothing, because out of nothing, nothing comes! This is an undeniable philosophical principle,

A significant point to raise here is that nothingness should not be misconstrued as the nothingness that some physicists talk about. The term nothingness in this context refers to the absence of anything physical, in other words there is no pre-existing ‘stuff’. In light of the beginning of the universe, there was absolutely nothing before it began to exist, which is why physicists have explained the universe as having a space-time boundary.

However, nothingness as defined by some physicists relates to the quantum vacuum. This is misleading because the quantum is something. In quantum theory the vacuum is a field of energy pervading the whole of the universe. In the word’s of John Polkinghorne, a philosopher of science, the quantum vacuum,

“…is not ‘nothing’; it is a structured and highly active entity.”

So, in context of some of the physicists’ definition, the universe could not have come from absolutely nothing, as the quantum vacuum is something. It is a sea of fluctuating energy, which is still part of the cosmos and it did not pre-exist the universe. This point leads us nicely to the next possible explanation.

Self caused or self created

Philosophically, the universe couldn’t have created itself because that would imply a paradox. It would mean that something can exist and not exist at the same time. The logical ends of this explanation are tantamount to saying that your mother gave birth to herself!

To assert that the universe created itself would be absurd and self refuting, because in order for something to create itself it would need to exist before it existed!

Created or brought into being by something else that began to exist

This is not an adequate explanation for the origins of the universe. The universe could not have owed its existence to another state of temporal physical existence. To maintain such an explanation would be equivalent of expanding the boundaries of the universe, as all things which have a temporal beginning exist within the universe. Also, if temporal physical existence owes itself to another temporal physical existence ad infinitum, it doesn’t explain anything. Rather it highlights the absurdity of an infinite regress, and that there has to be a beginning to the temporal physical states, which logically must be a non-physical state.

Take the following example into consideration. If the universe, U1, followed another temporal cause U2, and U2 followed another temporal cause U3, and this went on ad infinitum we wouldn’t have the universe U1 in the first place. Think about it this way, when does U1 come into being? Only after U2 has come into being. When does U2 come into being? Only after U3 has come into being. This same problem will continue even if we go to infinity. If U1 depended on its coming into being on a chain of infinite temporal causes, U1 would never exist. As the Islamic Philosopher and Scholar Dr. Jaafar Idris writes,

“There would be no series of actual causes, but only a series of non-existents, as Ibn Taymiyyah explained. The fact, however, is that there are existents around us; therefore, their ultimate cause must be something other than temporal causes.”

So now we have eliminated 3 options,  we are left with one: Created or brought into being by a non-created or un-caused entity

Now this does not mean God,  we can now analyse this last option
Evidence to show that Allah is real and you are bringing some poorly worded arguments that are nothing but question begging?. . . . .I laugh in Arabic. . . .Can you perform a verifiable miracle in Allah's name like healing of an amputee and restoring his amputated limbs back or calling on Allah to destroy all his enemies the Jews living in Israel today so that we know that he is not imaginary?. . .The fact that you are here trying to sell Allah to us shows that he is just another human construct like all the other Gods, your religion is nothing other than following another man's tradition and culture, and your God remains imaginary as such he can not do anything by himself, he has to rely on men to do EVERYTHING for him, write down his words, build his temples, fight for him, propagate his message etc, because he is a man made entity. . . .There is NO more evidence to show that Allah God is better than Zeus God, or Sango God or any of the pantheon of Hindu Gods. . . . They are all imaginary and man made end of story. . . .If you can perform any miracle in Allah's name or make him manifest himself to show that he is not imaginary then do it, STOP using poorly worded arguments to further the mythology. . ,

You see the problem i have with religious people is false assumptions and pretending to know things that they don't. . .Right know with our present scientific knowledge we really do not know how the universe came about, but that does not mean that we should fill in the gaps with baseless assumptions of ancient men that have been shown to be FALSE over and over again. . . .

I think what really matters is not the gender of the person, but their heart. Tell me, is it better to have a deacon that is a man with a corrupt heart or a deacon that is a woman with a righteous heart? God's ways are not like ours and He uses whoever He has chosen. Whether male or female.

And by the way, the theory that I have been presenting about historical context is a widely accepted theory among many theological colleges. In fact, I learned this very theory from a class I took at a theological school.
I don't find Paul's position tenable in today's world, just like so many other injunctions in the bible. They were written for people that lived very long ago and with a completely different structure and social order from ours today. But if the people want to follow its teachings then its position is very clear with regards to women and their position in the church. . . . .
Christianity Etc › Re: Pls Am Really Confused About This Bible Passage by mazaje(m): 9:09pm On Feb 01, 2012
theosci:
@dalaman << Not if we look at the reason and the principle behind why it was written. Looking at historical context doesn't disprove the Bible, rather it gives us a greater understanding of it. For example, from this text in Corinthians we can get from that text that women must carry themselves with dignity and honor. Not everything in the Bible was meant to be taken literally.
How do you know which things are to be taken literally or not? How do you make the distinction? We can as well say that the story of Jesus dying on the cross is not to be taken literally or his teaching against divorce.

With the culture of women's suffrage in our society today, would it make sense to not let women speak just because it wasn't done over 1500 years ago? No, you have to look at the reason why it was written. In Leviticus 14:33 it says that if you find mildew in your house and it is confirmed by a priest, it is unclean and you have to tear the house down and take all the materials of that house to a unclean place. If we found mildew in our house today, would we do that? Of course not, we would use cleaning products to get rid of it. In Deuteronomy 17:7 it says that if a person is found guilty of worshiping idols, they had to be stoned. Would we do that to someone today? Also, do you remember what Jesus said about the old law of Moses, and eye for an eye in Matthew 5:43? He says that we should turn the other cheek and not seek revenge. See, Jesus understood that Israel was grown up enough to understand the concept of forgive and forget. Back when the law was written, they would have gone to the extreme at taking revenge. That is why the whole law was made in the first place back in those times. To keep a control on revenge so that the person would only even the score and nothing more. If it wasn't made back then, people would have more than evened the score and there would be vendettas all the time. Because they weren't mature enough to see the law of love. They were given what they could handle. When it came to Jesus' time, they were mature enough to understand the law of love and no longer needed all those little rules to keep them in line. Like I said before, Historical context doesn't disprove anything, rather it clarifies the intentions of the author and of God during that period of time. What we take from it may not be word for word, but rather the principle behind it.
Paul wrote it TWICE that's enough indication to show that the injunction matters to him so much. . . . . The bible is clear about women teaching in the church or ministering. When the new testament was talking about the qualities of a deacon(church leader) it VERY clearly stated the he must be a man and not a woman. That is the position of the bible and that it.  . . . . .All the stories of the bible were written long ago and were about a SPECIFIC people and time in history. If we are to go by your thinking then very little of what the bible talks about applies to our modern world as stated by dalaman. . . . .You guys should just make up your minds and accept that you can't live by words and writings of pre historic men simple. . . . .
