I think you should start by learning what is Law. If a proposition is made by the President and adopted by the legislature it becomes law. Please remember the President is still the Comander in chief of Armed Forces. |
@Ugwumba The position of the Supreme court is clear on this issue, "INEC has no power to disqualify anyone". That I think does not require any further interpretation. Some say it is victory for rule of Law, I dont think so. I think it is victory for "Political Correctness". However I do agree with you that they have demonstrated independence, I do also think the President deserve some respect for allowing the Judges do their job without interfering. |
ADC why assume that I even belong to any tribe at all ? I may simply be a person familiar enough with Nigerian culture to feel I can make constructive contributions to this discussion of 419 fraudShould that be considered a flat denial ![]() ![]() ? |
People should stop quoting the Bible when they are discussing the politics of Nigeria, as a country the constitution is the working document. Nigeria is neither a Christain State or a Muslim State. Chris Okotie should tell nigerians his plans for the country if he has one and stop decieving himself. Tell me why Chris Okotie should be taken more seriously than average Nigerian politicians who go about telling us how God told them to contest only to ending up arming thugs in the run up to elections ![]() ![]() |
It is so easy to seat in our comfort zone to call those who have attempted to change our politics names, it is also a fact that it is easier to play by the rules while in politics than to initiate something different. We criticize and make fun of those who attempt to make a difference and that in principle means celebrating those who play by the rules and maintain the status quo. What has this status quo brought us other than Poor education, poor health facilities, and generally poor basic amenities. What I find very disturbing is the fact that the average Nigerian who bear the brunt of all this is so happy to make jest of the utomi's of this world when they fail. OK let the game continue since Nigerians will not take their destiny in their hands, If their is a young Nigerian thinking of making a difference tomorrow tell me how such person will be encouraged after reading these post. He will simply play by the rules so as to be celebrated as others. |
Point of correction, Blair is not happy with Brown candidacy. The Blairites are encouraging David Miliband to stand against Brown. @Topic I will not vote for any but will prefer Yar'adua to win. Reason being am not motivated to vote cos none has given me a reason to. Will prefer Yar'adua cos he will simply be a continuation of transition to New and contemporary Nigeria. But there wont be any radical change in his government. |
Gossshhh!!!!! Ika where did u get that from ![]() ? ![]() |
@Afam Sorry, once again I beg to differ. The man on the streets of Awka or Owerri does not and should not know who the contractors are. It is the duty of the government to ensure that money spent is commensurate to projects delivered, That is why serious counties have government audit body. All the people want to see is good roads and will hold government for lack of it (not strabag or julius berger). If the works minister actually said that he should simply be ashamed of himself, that is simply negligence of duty and in an ideal society he should be made to resign having made that comment. We are simply not a serious nation |
Afam:We Nigerians are in the habit of figuring out who can and who can't win elections even before the polls not because those who we think can win have given us a genuine reason to think that way. But because we think politics of Nigeria is not all about Nigerians but about who has more money and who wields more influnce. That is how small and narrow minded our politics is at the moment and that mentality has to change. We have to turn the page. Democracy is all about running a people inclusive government, otherwise whats the difference with military. Thus an election in a democratic government should be about those who are able to appeal more to the people. I know that it will not happen in one day, but at least we have to be moving in the right direction. 2007 Nigeria does not deserve a guber election where Akala will be leading convoy of youths wielding cutlasses and guns instead of seeking the people's vote, 2007 Nigeria does not deserve an election where Andy Uba and his cohorts will have result sheets in their house before the polls while a whole state goes out to vote. Someone, somewhere in Anambra who may have been unable to eat breakfast may have gone to the polls hoping that his vote will help decide his future. But all that becomes a excersize in futlity if a spin master is sitting somewhere with the result sheet waiting to announce his result while the people waiste their time. |
kellorah:God bless u my sister |
Those who feel so bad that Pat Utomi quit might be waisting there time or be novice in naija politics, but the fact remains that naija will not get anywhere like this. We need to turn the page in our politics. I have always been sympathetic to PDP cos I thought they offer Nigerians a chance to move on better than the opposition, but the landslide victory recorded by the PDP last saturday is simply ludicrous and unacceptable. They should learn to allow the wish of the people prevail, there was no way the PDP would have won a free and fair election in Anambra and Oyo and thus should learn to accept their failures. Personally I think we are trying too hard to maintain stability and status quo in this country, and that is why the ruling party will not take Nigerians seriously. Making mockery of politicians for not playing politics like it is played in Nigeria shows our individual reluctance for change and enhancing the tennets of democracy. We should not be questing for politicians who will maintain the status quo but rather those who will offer us a different kind of politics because our politics for now is nothing to be desired. |
OBJ is very crafty, if I was Atiku I will simply quit the race now that the ovation is still loud. Cos look at that chart on bbc and tell me how AC or ANPP put together will upset PDP ![]() ![]() ??Do you know what this is about ![]() , If Atiku was disqualified yesterday his political death would have left him a political matyrh but now that the damage has been done. If the Nigerians seal his faith by rejecting him at the polls (whether free and fair or not) he will have no face in our political history. Afterall he contested and lost.I am still a fan of the man OBJ though. ![]() |
Ask me todaya nd ask me tomorrow and I'll always say the cause of these unfortunate incidences is unprotected sex and has nothing to do with guns. Nothing at all. This youth-gun-crime-thing didn't start in one day, and so the problem cannot be solved in one day.Oh dear!!!! We learn everyday and will like to learn of the correlation between un-protected sex and gun crimes. Please kindly elaborate |
That is the dilema of the society we live in, we saw Chris Uba kidnap a sitting governor and he was not considered a security risk, we saw Chris Uba testify before the court of law to have engaged in electoral fraud and he was not considered a security risk, Chris Uba masterminded the burning down of state facilities in Anambra and was not considered a security risk, well probably am overshooting. I think I should have started by appealing to whoever has access to Sunday Ehindero to explain to Nigerians what constitutes a security risk ![]() ?The next dispensation of Nigerian police should consider it there first task to sort out Adedibu and Uba, they should have no place in any civilized society. |
It looks as if the only truthful person on this thread from an unbiased point of view is Walelead ![]() |
Whoever is calling Duke a coward simply have no clue what party politics is about. He is class and demonstrated that during PDP primaries, forget the gangsterism by Bafarawa, Orji and Atiku. In an ideal situation you adhere to the rules of the party if on the other hand you disagree you have to relinquish all that is associated with the party. A gentleman like Duke quiting PDP will mean resignation as Gorvernor. Meanwhile he has not finished his mission for his people cross river state. So he simply played by the rules of the game and he is a model for other politicians to follow. |
@Liphile That chat is simply frieghtening |
@Ugwumba Appologies are rendered when you have any regrets for your actions or what you said. I do not have regrets for my arguments on this issue, because common sense should tell us that aspects of constitution that has to do with electoral matters should be implemented by the electoral commision. What supreme court has succeeded in doing today is to give politicians a tool to circumvent the constitution, meaning that a political party could field a 10year old for election and INEC would have no say provided no other political party petitions the court of law. However, I do accept the ruling of the Supreme court and expect INEC to abide by the ruling. Do I have any regrets for my stance on this issue ![]() ? NO. Thus sorry I am not going to appologise for the sake of it. |
Sorry this is no hope for no masses, he represents the interest of no one. However good for him, now that he has won at the supreme court he should contest lets see how popular he is. Hope he is man enough to accept the result on Saturday, whether he wins or loose. Elections are not only free and fair when we win. |
Well then so be it, if the supreme court says so. He should test his popularity at the polls. |
Who die for naija kill himself Na him make sometimes e dey vex me when boys dey carry matchet fight for Adedibu or Akala or Uba. Well na illiteracy dey cause am. |
For me, Peter Obi has not finished his tenure. the case is still on in court. |
MAMAJAMA:I am not advocating that Ribadu should be made IG by the next Government cos personally I think that will only shorten his lenght of service to the country, However will like to tackle your issue of experience. The traits of the Nigerian police is one of Inefficiency, mediocrity or corruption. Experience being number of years one has put in something, then I think the experience of those that have run our dysfunctional police is not something to be desired. |
GNature what do you make of that video I became even more convinced about Ribadu affter watching that interview |
Oprah should also report about banks who collude with African leaders to siphone our money, they are only doing those because Americans are at the recieving end. |

@J-girl I did not say you should keep quiet but why all the essays on why Igbos are being envied or whatnot? You shouldn't fight fire with fire, but do so with water. If he's being tribalistic, correct it to make it a nationalist view but by building on tribalism, you're only aggravating the issue. This is not about maturity, this is about a people having to beg for the rest of their lives to be accepted and that is not fair. Every passing day Africans in the west have racism to put up with, but sometimes it gets more heart breaking realising that you are not even accepted where you call home. Any person would have been created in the South East of Nigeria, you who are Yoruba or Hausa could have been Igbo too. During my service year in Sokoto, an Hausa guy said he dad adviced him never to associate with the Igbos. That is a fathers advice for a Son about a supposed fellow compatriot. When politicians like Arthur Nzeribe missbehave in NASS everyone remembers where he comes from and see that as a reason demonize the Igbos, but when they talk about Dora Akunyili, Okonjo Iweal, Soludo, Ken Nnamani etc the centre of discussion becomes Nigeria. Every tribe in Nigeria has good people and bad people, yes Tafa Balogun is not Igbo, the PTDF scandal rocking the Presidency the no1. and 2 citizens of this country are not Igbos, Ibrahim Mantu is not Igbo, Sunday Afolabi was not Igbo. The average Nigerian is greedy and have some fraudulent tendencies people should stop looking for who to blame for their woes. It has become politically incorrect to talk about some people breaking away, while accepting the Igbos is entirely up to Nigerians and Nigerian State. What they can not do is not allow the Igbos quit Nigeria and yet not accept them. We saw sebia and montenegro vote to either stay together or not, its about time Nigerians vote to either stay together or split so that if we think the Igbos are simply the cause of all the troubles of Nigeria they should simply vote them out. Then if we all choose to live together, then we will be better for it and learn to accept one another. |
Now lets get to the Nitty gritty of this issue Why are people falling to the cheap baits of "I am the son of Sani Abacha and he has money to transfer". They are falling because some Americans have in the past earned a fortune by being part of such deals, they are falling because Mobutu once laundered money to America, they are falling because a lot of African loots have been laundered to the west and people earned a fortune for taking part is such money laundering. This goes on even today or will go on tomorrow we dont hear them, Oprah and fox news will not bring the attention of the world to Banks behind such deals. Then when scams are designed because the above existed and Americans are at the recieving end, it becomes a media issue. Let no one be decieved, if they abhor corruption as they so preach they should do more to expose banks aiding corrupt african leaders to launder money. As a matter of fact the boys involved in this scams are doing those out of desperation. At least we saw what happened after hurricane katrina and how Americans where running after other people's properties. That is a pilot scenario of how they Americans will be desperate if there country is dysfunctional as Nigeria. Oprah and Fox should focus more on the institutional corruption by the american banking industry against the African continent than than little boys in the slumps of lagos. |
Sweet T I regret ever coming to this thread to engage you in a debate cos you are simply not in my league. Sorry to have replied your post. |
4play and Yorubas are not disguising as Igbos Well I know a Yoruba school mate when I was doing my masters who has been in jail since then for fraud, so there is simply nothing you can tell me. People simply dont learn anything from living abroad, Elite who should be the future of our nation come onto the internet to point fingers at other tribes like old market women selling pepper will do. |
Sweet T I think you should be ashamed of yourself, if after living in US you can not learn to drop the bias against other ethnic nationalities that is ruining our nation then there is not much you have learnt from living abroad. Go read your initial post once again. |
4Play I am waiting for your reply |
