atiku4lyfe:How right will it be if the Governor of a southern state decides that no one is allowed to wear veil in the South. Frankly Shekarua should be ashamed of himself. He should work harder to improve the lives of his people rather than exploiting religion to score cheap political points. Yaradua talked about Ignorance in his 7-points agenda while talking about poverty. This is the height of ignorance, lets see how he handles it. Dont tell me the President of Nigeria has no say when the fundamental human rights of southerners who live in the North is trampled upon. |
The man don't have the vision to select his own cabinet, opting instead to continue with Obasanjo's tired and corrupt cabinetCan you elaborate on the statement in bold ![]() ?? |
This will obviously be one of the first challenges of the Yaradua government, I hope somebody openly opposes it so that the issue escalates to a National debate. I am not against having muslim schools in any part of the country where people dress like the Sultan if they so wish. But the governor of a state mandating every school student to dress in a particular way is outrageous and those who call themselves senators and representatives should be ready to debate it in the NASS. We all celebrated when OBJ suspended Joshua Dariye for tactically travelling abroad each time there was religous conflict in his state. OBJ himself a Christain disciplined Dariye a fellow Christain for engaging in such shameful tacit support for one religous group against the other in his state. Let us see how Yaradua handles this one. |
lets have 2 party system with the possibility of an individual running as independent candidate. |
Utomi calls himself a south south man but actually identifies with ohaneze and attends their mtgs.Is Ohaneze a geopolitical zone ![]() ![]() ??If you truly love Duke please do not associate with such comments cos you will simply be destroying his chances by doing that. |
BigB1 Why is it so late right now to bury the hatchet and chart a new course? Why was it ok to think only the future before the election but too wrong to think only the future after the election? Could who emerged the winner have anything to do with this? |
@ dayokanu You have been all over the place campaigning against OBJ as if he is standing elections, the man has less than 30days in office. Or I should probably ask what your mission actually is ![]() ?/ |
Dis Guy:Once upon a time in Governors Forum when Orji was distributing post if elected President he gave Duke tourism minister but the man jokingly opted for Andy Uba's job. LOL, but that is how strategic the guy is. Trust me the FCT minister or Finance minister has more work to do than VP. Its not about rank, the VP or Deputy Governor is such a boring job. Never mind that in Nigeria people justle for positions anyhow. |
I think OBJ should be proud of himself. If OBJ had not stepped on the toes of top politicians, the whole Nigeria would have been eulogising him by now. The EFCC (whether selective or not) and OBJ's quarell with the likes of IBB, Atiku and other top elite politicians brought to our awareness a lot we may not have known in the next 50years if OBJ agreed to play ball. So the man should be proud of himself. I have said it before, sometimes it is not how popular you are while in power that matters but how history will remember you. The issues we have experienced in the past 4years will shape this country for the better. |
It is natural to hold OBJ responsible for the successes and failures of his government, even he OBJ will admit that. But the next government must emphasize on the Local Councils and State governments taking the lead in offering service to the people because they are the most important government units not the central government as we errorneously think. |
When I saw the length of your work, I thought you would come up with something tangible. You are still lumping issues together, what has religous crisis got to the with the issue of debate. Please tell us how the chessmasters got Dariye and Alams to be caught by London Met police with life cash. I don't subscribe to the concept of a corrupt Mr A being innocent because there is a corrupt Mr B which has not been prosecuted. That defence can not stand anywhere in the world. |
@Nobblezone Can you advice us on Joshua Dariye's sins and who between OBJ and Atiku he was loyal to before his demise ![]() ![]() Can you also advice us on how the Aso Rock chess masters were able to get Alams and Dariye travel to london with £1m and then caught by London metro-politan police. |
@ Nobblezone You are simply lumping everything together, Peter Obi or Ngige are simply not in the same league as Dariye or Alams. While Ribadu spearheaded the latter two owing to their records the previous two were simply political. |
Now someone is begining to reason along my lines. The journey for 2011 starts here and now. Not going to sleep only to re-emerge 3 months to next general elections and hope to unsit the ruling party. |
Dezobo Can you confirm that you are simply having a laugh, ![]() |
It is not fair to use the Alamajiri's to judge a state governor. That issue is a case of migration and lack of border controls which the Nigerian state has refused to address because of religous sentiments. This country is going no where as long as our population continues to increase in exponential order. Their has to be re-orientation of the Nigerian public, in a country where there is no adequate welfare system, people can not continue to cross the borders because we are simply not able to improve their lives. Some of those Alamajiris have no parents because they were brought from Niger to learn the qur'an, they have no life no love and as soon as there is tension they are the first to pick up arms against southerners. So the Alamajiris is part of the failure in Nigerian Immigration Services which needs to be overhauled. From a Katsina state point of view taking a special care of those alamajiris is simply unsustainable because any attempt to do something significant in that regard without adequate migration control will mean more Alamajiris in Katsina which the government can not practically handle. |
The Supreme Court is simply promoting corruption. The traditional definition of democracy has always been government by the people and for the people, but I look at some of these judgements and I wonder if Nigeria's democracy is actually for the people. This is no victory for democracy, this is victory for corruption. I second Iyke-D, Alams and tafa Balogun should as well be re-instated. In fact The Nwude's and Anajemba's should be refunded their hard earned fraud moiney. Because what is the point, after all the hardwork by Ribadu some fools will sit somewhere and make nonsense of it all in the name of protecting textbook democracy. |
watch out for any second term senator from North-Central or Southwest |
if you uphold the fundamental human right of those who dont want sharia you will simply be trampling on the fundamental human rights of those who want it. If a man who ordinarily is from the south travels to the North, I think he should learn to respect the culture of the people from that region while those from that region should tolerate people of other region. No one can sit in Abuja to bully people in Kano not to practice Sharia or bully people in Rivers or Lagos or Enugu to Practice it. That is how our society will work for now. |
What do Nigerian Judges really stand for in the fight against corruption. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/6599133.stm Probably the section of the constitution that gives judges immunity from prosecution should be scrapped lets know what they are all about. |
Come to think of it, does the President of Nigeria have a VETO POWER ![]() ![]() |
freelance:You have pre-empted some people's views, cos what they say will only be funny to you. Check out your statement in bold. |
The Nigerian media and its people are looking for every excuse to abuse OBJ. Are u suggesting that Olurin should vacate office based on National Assembly proceedings and Newspaper reports. ![]() ![]() ?This is the beauty of democracy, separation of powers is not uni-directional. Both arms of the Government must respect the powers of the other within the confines of the law. Olurin is not an employee of National Assembly or an elected official, he is a Government appointee. While NASS have all the write in the world not to ratify his extension in office thereby making his continues stay in office questionable they simply have no powers to either sack or appoint a Government official. Olurin as a sole administrator reports only to the Presidency and has to wait for necessary communication from the Presidency in other to vacate office. Presidency on the other hand will not ask Olurin to vacate office because Punch or Vanguard reported that NASS did not ratify Olurin's tenure extension, a memo from the NASS informing them on this development is even yet to reach the Presidency and people begin to jump into conclusion that OBJ has no respect for rule of law. People should stop bullying the President, Go and even read in details of the proceedings of NASS. In the senate about 40 voted for extension while 18 voted no extension. about 20 were absent and 3 dead people not replaced yet and the Senate President did not vote at all. They now concluded that they do not have the necessary 2/3 majority to ratify the extension. In the house of representative they simply concluded that they don't have enough people on sit to form a qourum and thus did not vote at all. The question is both houses are claiming not enough numbers to form a qourum to ratify the extension but they have enough qourum to make a definitive statement that Olurin should be replaced with Speaker of state house of assembly. The truth is, they have every right to like or dislike the President but people must learn to separate emotions from their duties. Olurin has barely 30days to quit why all the drama. However if they want drama they have to follow dues process, they can not sack Olurin on the pages of newspaper. |
I want to call on all serious minded nairalanders to ignore this thread, facts on ground do not show Yaradua as a religous fanatic, the post by the originator of this thread shows that Katsina only adopted Sharia after 4 good states have done so. Tell me why Yaradua will kick against it if the people and state legislators want it. It is like expecting the governor Bayelsa to kick against resources control or increment of oil derivation. Besides that, Katsina government under the leadership of Yaradua will not sponsor pilgrimage to mecca because it does not add value to the lives of the citizens. I dont think a religous Fanatic will think that way. Someone has even pointed out that his children does wear skimpy clothes. A religous fanatic will not allow that. Go read his message to Olusola Saraki when the Northern Union came to congratulate him, he encouraged them to get ready to campaign for power shift to south just like they campaigned it coming to the North. So I simply dont understand why people come hear posting senseless threads ![]() ![]() ? |
the truth is that I personally dont want to waste any further time defending OBJ and what he stands for. I have always said it in my previous posts that 10 years down the line we will look back in history and say thanks to OBJ. Yes he may have made mistakes but then he remains one of our finest generals. |
Rottweiler:I think you probably need your eyes to open, the messeage is simple, if you dont embezzle you dont need to be friends with OBJ or whoever is the President. If Tinubu is not your dad or uncle then your argument is simply so misguided, because if the so called selective fight against corruption is true and Tinubu out of fear of being selectively dealt with does his job well. Lagos and Lagos people will be better for it. |
If Yaradua is so much a Sharia fanatic, I wonder why he will not sponsor hadj because he thinks it does not add value to the lives of his people. |
Rottweiler:Good go on, the longer the list the more you are able to proove Tinubu's Innocence |
