Makes sense. So far I've been doing direct labour @ N50 flat rate for block setting irrespective of the floor level and additional N10 for lifting the block to 1st & 2nd floors. diordaves: That is the total cost if you are using direct labour. If you are using contractor, you may be charged additionally for carrying the block. I normally use direct labour for straightforward jobs. |

Hi, does the N70 at higher level include Labour cost or moving the blocks to the higher floor for use or that is separate? diordaves: Both 6" and 9" at ground level, but higher up, 9" hollow is N70. 6" hollow can be negotiated at N60 still. But they will be telling you that after the work you should 'bless' them. |

Contact distributors directly. That way you remove middle-men that are not vested and offer you nothing other than placing a phone call on your behalf. You'll get good deal starting from 300 bags upwards. if you push it to 600 bags then even better. Where is your location? Which brand of cement do you want? I can share some of the contacts i use often with you. You should establish direct contact with two or three distributors for redundancy sake. good luck. jedisco: @ house What's the cheapest way of buying 400-500 bags of cement for a project. The small retailers are quoting 2,600 but I believe I can get it at a better price considering the number |

Hello, How much do you pay per block laid in Lagos? diordaves: This is what I'm used to over the years, from Delta to Lagos to Ibadan. Half blocks are paid for. The counting method is the blocks laid and not the block supplied. Na to draw rain with my bricklayers be that then. |

Hello people,
I have a toks 2007 Jeep Patriot that arrived with oil pressure issues. It is suspected that OIL PRESSURE SENSOR needs replacement.
Any recommendations on how I can:
1) Check the car for diagnosis to confirm exact problem 2) Purchase parts for that car e.g. Oil pressure sensor if that's indeed the problem
Considering it's not too common around here, do you have anyone to recommend?
Thanks

This means you pay block setting fee also for the broken/waste blocks. I'll try to use the total block set to compute payment. - pay for carrying the total number of blocks and - pay for setting only the blocks counted on the wall (i.e. less the waste) that is what i'll propose... major savings with over 20k blocks to set. segzy14:
I don’t pay half block as one that is over paying the bricklayer. If I supply 500blocks, I will pay for the 500blocks and make sure it is used there. |

I get you... Thanks. So N50 per block is the fair going rate? Location: Lagos erico2k2: Might be but trusted me from the eyes of a prospective landlord, stick to block counting, its easier to account for, that being said, you will be shortchanged anyhow you monitor but at least you know the figures U paid for when you count! |

What is the difference between paying for block setting per block vs per SQM? I recently heard about paying SQM and they claim its supposed to be cheaper and easier to estimate Is this true? Are you aware of this method? If yes, what's the rate to use? Thanks segzy14:
You don't need to pay 2000naira for the labourer after paying 50naira for each block. 30naira is payment for the bricklayer while 20naira is payment for the labourer. |

Hello, what’s your location? Vission2020: House please I need your opinion on how much you think is the price to mold a 9inch Hollow block on a site... I will be the one to provide the sand and the cement and water.. all they will provide is Services I.e machine/Engine for the blocks and Labor... i contacted some one today and he told me for him to mold a piece of block while a provide the sand and cement/water it will be #130 per a piece and he can produce 40piece for a bag of cement.. which means if I want to mold 100bags = 3000 Blocks I will have to pay him 390,000 plus the fact that I still be the one to buy the 100 bags of cement and provide the sand...
So guys please what’s your take on this .. because when I did my calculations with all cost I think the total amount I will spend for just molding 3000 blocks will be ridiculous and doesn’t make much sense to me ... |

Hello people,
Is a BRC wire mesh or some sort of reinforcement required to make coping above a parapet wall.
See attached picture for a sample.
One engineer says just high proportion of cement with sand will do while the other says BRC is required.
Thanks

Post a picture for better understanding. To your question...you will most likely have to insert iron rods to correct it (depending on the nature of the crack. Again, post pictures to help you get the right responses. good luck 4newguy: Good day. I need this great house and engineers advice. I started a 4bedroom bungalow which weve roofed and plastered. Of recent, weve noticed crack both horizontal and vertical cracks on the walls and the floor. Engineer said it's as a result of differential settlement and it can be worked on. He said working on it involves cracking the walls and just filling and plastering with cement and sand. Someone told me it involves breaking the walls and inserting reinforcement (iron rods) and plastering with mixed sand, cement and granite.
He insists that it's not necessary. Please engineers in the house, is it necessary or not |

Too busy. Get the architect ( if you used any) to get more creative. I'm sure he can do better. You seemed to have too much crammed in there. - Master bed access awkward - How do you get ventilation to family lounge? Do you even need one at all? - Is laundry mandatory to you? seems forced in there as well. consider outdoor laundry or in the terrace if you absolutely have to have one. - Visitors rest room is a requirement but needs to be relocated. that's one space thats okay to be tucked in a corner and hidden from direct view for privacy. I will just rework everything altogether to get a completely different layout. Hezbola: Engineers in the house please, kindly review this plan. Is it perfect, what can be adjusted. |

Please can you clarify and explain the bolded part again? you wrote that i need 3.1 tonne to 3 bags of cement for 100 blocks.... is this 3.1 tonne of sand or stone dust or both? 35 per bag is okay and clear, just need to clarify the other points. Olazzeedris: **Primarily why molding block ;1 For us to have good qualities 2. To avoid delay 3. Maybe to save little cost etc. Now Firstly; Is good you mold it on site to get good quality ,because if you're to buy of standard it would cost you more infact you may not see it at the range of 200 or 220 .Though region determines.
2nd on materials ; You need like 3.1tonne to 3bags of cement for 100blcks. 35 per bag Cost you 19,000 to 20,000
Then if you're to buy of the same quality you mold @ rate of 220 to 250 . |

Thanks for the detailed response. Yes I am still keen on molding the blocks on site, below are some of the extra info you requested; - We will use both sand and stone dust mixture - We are looking to hire the molding machine and labor required - I don't know the different type of machine, i just know of vibrated block making machine Leads me to next set of questions... What are the rates to hire molding machine and what is rate for labor per block? What is the desirable sharp sand & stone dust mix ratio? I understand the 30-40 blocks per bag of cement part, but how many cement needed for 1 trip of sand (just as example)? If i have these info, then i can do the numbers and work out my material list and cost to achieve the total quantity i need. Thanks boay: The only cost saving is the cost of transportation and profit (of block moulding industries). The cost saving will be reasonable because of the large quantity.
It is advisable to mould to ensure quality and considering the fact that you need a large quantity.
The basic materials you will need are cement, sand/quarry/stone dust and water. The moulding machine inclusive.
I need to put pen on paper to determine the exact quantities.
Also, will you use sand or stone dust? Where is your location? What type of machine will you use to mold, do you own or will hire the machine, will the labourers/operators be engaged newly or are part of the/your company etc.
These info are needed for a detail analysis. |
