I'm on the island but no problem going to Owode, do you by any chance have contact of a seller there? I wouldn't mind speaking to someone over there first before going to purchase.

This pic is similar to what we want to do but for a different design.

Check owode, though it depends on your location.

Hello all,

I have some steelworks to do and need some advice on the materials.
Please advice if you know market unit prices for these items below, or direct me to where I can source from;

1) H Beam (I'm told it comes in standard 12m lengths?)
2) 4x4 Square Pipe (comes in 5.6m length?)
3) 2x4 Square Pipe
4) 8mm Flat Plate

Thanks

It's like that floor tiles is the big deal in the market at the moment...almost all major builds have it nowadays.

Looks nice though, do you have an idea how much it costs?

Good neat job your guys are doing there.

Hello people,

I need help troubleshooting a possible electrical fault in a 2012 HONDA PILOT.

Vehicle suddenly starts to drain battery life rapidly.
Day 1:
- Vehicle worked perfectly okay the day before and was parked but failed to start in the morning.
- Got a battery (battery #2) to jump-start and drove for about 1hr to destination. I returned to the vehicle after about 3hrs and it failed to start.
- Got another battery (battery #3) to jump start, drove home and parked it till next day.

Day 2:
- Sent my battery (battery #1) for charging and hired a battery (battery #4) to use for the period. Installed rented battery, drove about 30mins to destination, turned off engine, returned to vehicle about 20mins later and it wouldn't start. ignition lights comes on but wouldn't start.
- Removed the rented battery and started the car with a borrowed battery (battery #5), disconnected the leads while engine running (to test alternator) and it didn't go off - Alternator okay?
- Put back the hired battery (#4) and drove the vehicle home, disconnected the leads and parked overnight.

Day 3:
- Put back the leads, battery terminal sparking indicating battery power, dashboard lights comes on but still wouldn't start.

I think i may have eliminated alternator and battery as the issue and may have other electrical problem.
Is this correct by the steps outlined above?
Is there other steps I could perform to ascertain the problem?

Any recommendation for someone to help with electrical fault diagnosis.

Vehicle is in Lekki-Ajah axis.

Thanks

If you mean block setting, between 50 - 60 blocks.

Better to use the right word or common word for shared meaning... i can see that someone already took your choice of word of "block laying" to mean "block molding or block making" and answered you as such (correctly with block making numbers). Otherwise, you end up using the wrong information.

Nothing new here. welcome to the world of business.

I was waiting to hear a design was used without consent or someone worked and wasn't paid for their services or something like that. So far, it doesn't appear like none of that transpired.

If you think its a bother and you stand no chance of winning the business, then decline the invitation to quote or tender. Simples!

Or if you want to cover your time and sweat spent on scoping a potential job and preparing a quote, then state as a pre-condition of engagement that you require some upfront payment before you even commit yourself... and see how that works out.

Let's be frank and sincere to ourselves sometimes. Too much diplomacy and political correctness masks the lesson sometimes.

twinskenny:

well done ma, actually Dennis is a good guy weve done a project together before... i beleive what anger him here is feedback madam, at least if he is no longer going to handle the job you should have just send him a message and notify him about it..

it can be painful sometimes when you have devoted your time preparing quote and all and at end of the day you didnt get to even hear from the client again!.

some of us travel a long distance to give a quote and advice and we later find out that the job has been contracted to another person..

not too good

Depends on what are the major drivers for your project: timeline, cash flow etc.?

Yes it will slow you down a little because for major tasks like casting you may have to watch the rain and wait it out, other than you'll be fine generally. Once the casting are managed and not affected by rain, the rain will actually benefit you to achieve proper and even wetness needed after casting.
The other tasks like formwork and iron work are less impacted if the builder assures you the guys can work through the rain.

We started a multi-storey building last year just before raining season and worked through the the season, it helped spread out the funding over a longer period which was fine for us because no time constraints.

So here is my summary:
- If you have all your cash at hand and all the time in the world (no pressure to do the project now now): by all means wait till rains are over, so you can start and rush your work during dry season.

- If you have cash secured but constraint with time (cos you have a deadline): start now, it will slow you down a little but you'll be fine with a solid engr

- If you cash will be staggered and no time constraint: start now, the rain will help you wet your concrete when you take breaks to wait for cashflow.

Good luck.

jamepatrick:
I would like to start building my house next month but the problem is the weather as we all know it's raining season. The builder advised me to go ahead with the project irrespective of the weather that he's got it covered.

Do you guys think this is really possible I mean building a house(From foundation level) during this raining season? It rains almost every day in my area. Won't the cement wash out or lead to a poor foundation?

Please advise as I'm not too sure here if the guy is just looking to get paid.

Thanks for your response.
And yes, this work you posted is done well and that's the kind of finish we will be hoping for.

Concerning materials, on our side we will try to source your recommended type/nature of sand, even if it means going out of the way and/or paying a premium. Infact, we have received two different batches of plaster sand for trials to compare the results.

So that brings us to the next question...since you mentioned that workmanship is the other key factor,do you still have the same set of guys in your team or on call-out? How consistent can this be achieved? Being a past job,how certain we can get same in future (job is about one month away)?

This is a very good job, and if we can have anything close to this we will be happy. You'll sure be getting a follow up.

rotecch77:

Two thing contributed to the final finishing of the plastering/rendering.

1. Level of workmanship
2. Nature of material ( sand)

1. To get well smooth surface level of workmanship determines this in most cases.

2. Nature of the sand used will determine the final look of the plaster when dry up, some plaster sand are yellowish in nature and no mater what you do the final look will still look yellowish.
Some plaster sand also are grey in nature this will looks like cement colour after it drys up even in wet form you will notice it.

Here are few pics of what I did in the past and presently
Properties / Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by megacontrol(m): 6:38am On Jun 16, 2020
Hello people,

We all see different types of finish for plastering jobs. some very smooth looking close to a semi-screeded wall, others not so good. there's also major differences in the final color after the job.

My question is what is the single most important factor to get that light color finish that leaves it looking just like a a pure wet cement? Is it the plaster sand, cement type/brand, workman competency/proficiency, a combination or something else completely?

I'm asking for an upcoming job which is very important but no plans to paint for a while since the location isn't quite ready for occupancy, so it will be left for a while post-plastering. It is my opinion that I wouldn't be so particular if I planned to screed and and paint immediately cos those easily cover up a lot of poor plastering jobs.

I'll like to have a very nice external plastering finish while we leave the building standing for a long time.

Looking forward to read your thoughts on this one... Thanks

Its scary reading that prices are on the rise again.

I also need lots of wood for a job soon.

So is there anyone here that can provide current prices for various wood sizes?

flekky07:
You can not see where to rent wood @ that price. Wood is expensive so marine Board too a marine board is rented@3500-4000 each, they are also pros & coin to it when renting other board 1x12 it will not be neat, you may likely experience leakage when pouring concrete.

1x12 wood is N1,300each now. Materials is high now, granite is not less N150k in Ogun state close terrain. Iron rod is not less N215k/ton. Everything is high now.

I hv make finding on it as i am going to embark on a project soon.

Best of luck

The post said 3 duplexes (not 4 like you mentioned).

And that is not unusual these days i must say - 1 fully detached in front and 2 semi detached behind - as shown in the initial layout illustration.

Whats left is then minor details for implementation. but yes, very possible and commonplace in lekki.

Start by asking how many blocks are to be used for the entire upper floor blockwork.
That way you can work out the block setting labour separate from the builder's supervision fees.

Hello @money121,

Is there any page on this thread that you do not drop your "adverts" filled with pictures?
I have just read the last few pages to catch up and there's hardly any page where you don't drop those your repetitive pictures in numbers. Very rare to find such page.

Now to my question...you being a fairly old member, are you aware the author (and subsequently other users) specifically requested no adverts here and for good reason? Do you know why?

Yes! Of course you do, yet you still go ahead to litter the thread with repeat pictures and deliberately violating the purpose of the thread.
Do your likes think being in people's faces is what brings you patronage? I tell you for free, sometimes its the opposite perception y'all leave prospective clients with.

Do you imagine what this place will look like if all vendors did exactly the same thing? Will y'all be happy when clients and customers abandon the thread for you all to be bombarding yourselves with adverts and doing competition with picture collage of the same product all the time without anything new ?

My unsolicited suggestion is to channel the effort into creating and growing your thread and share hyperlinks to your works here as required. I'm sure you know this already.

P.S: I am not your enemy or rival.I am not a vendor or contractor. I use this platform and engage in business activities herein so I hate to see its value washed down.
With this new trend, we will get to 2k pages fast but over 50% of the last 500-1k page will be junk content.
