If he is going to North America, let him learn either Navision or Mfgpro in addition to those you mentioned, in case he finds himself in a manufacturing environment. If it is europe, he should learn either SAP, Sage, JDEdward etc, in addition to Power BI or Qlik (for business analytics). Alejo2000: Hello fellow Nairalanders,
I find myself at a crucial crossroad in life and would greatly appreciate your valuable insights and diverse perspectives. I have worked diligently in a private organization for 15 years, managing to save up to N20 million. Additionally, I own a 3-bedroom apartment. and a few plots of land in three different states in Nigeria.
Current Situation: Recently, I was disengaged from my job, and this has prompted me to contemplate a major life decision. I am 45 years old, and my wife is 42 years old. Together, we have three children, two of whom are in secondary school.
Contemplating Relocation: Given the circumstances, I have been seriously considering the possibility of relocating to another country with my family via study route. Two countries have caught my attention: the UK and Canada. I believe that I still have around 15 years of active career working life by the Grace of God, and I am open to exploring new opportunities abroad for the betterment of my family's future.
Reasoning: The motivation behind this move is to provide my children with a better education and quality of life while also embracing new experiences. However, I am fully aware that this is not without risks, as it would involve utilizing my lifetime savings and making a fresh start in a foreign land.
Seeking Your Advice: I humbly seek your honest advice and opinions on this matter. Here are some key points to consider:
Family considerations: How will relocating impact my children's education and overall well-being?
Age and career transition: Is starting anew in a foreign country feasible, considering my age and accounting background as my profession?
Financial stability: Should I be concerned about using my savings for this move? What steps can I take to ensure financial security in a new country?
Visa and immigration: What are the challenges and best practices in obtaining permanent residency in the UK or Canada?
Job opportunities: How promising is the job market for accountants in these countries? Are there viable prospects for career growth?
Investment options: Alternatively, what investment opportunities in Nigeria can provide a stable income stream for my family?
Conclusion: I am deeply grateful for any advice, personal experiences, or suggestions you can provide. Your valuable insights will play a significant role in shaping this crucial decision for my family's future.
Thank you all for taking the time to read and respond to my post. Your support means a lot to me and will help me make an informed choice.
Warm regards, It’s a pity that we don’t know your profession and/or whether you have transferable skills or not. Based on the little you wrote about yourself, I will say these: - go but don’t plan staying longer because you are already old for their system. Going abroad will give you certain exposure and change your orientation about some things. - be ready to do menial jobs all through. - don’t plan to stay longer than 5 to 7 years if you don’t want to be useless. - save while you work there and start commercial projects on your land you have back home. Don’t think of using your savings to build any house ‘to your taste o’ - at least while you are still abroad. - it would be better if you and your wife can pull resources together to build more units of simple rentable structures on those land. - when it is 10 years (max), leave and go and face your investments fully in Nigeria. Things would have improved a bit in Nigeria but it won’t get to the level of that of western world. Ire o. |

That’s the age you can do some ‘trial and error’ with your life and you tend to get things right before you cross 30. Relocating abroad after 40 without in-demand skill can be frustrating, even though it is better than not relocating. But at ages above 40, be investing (where your mouth is) back home so that after 50/55 years, you can go back and sit down to enjoy your sweat. If you wait till 65 before leaving, na another person go enjoy bulk of it. Not you. |

President Tinubu has no criminal record. If he did Obi's lawyers are yet to find it, maybe you can help them if you have a copy. It won't help Obi's very very weak case though because if President Tinubu is disqualified, Atiku will ascend the throne. 😁😁 and boli sellers. Awon weyrey gbogbo. How has such case nullified a Nigerian from contesting an election? Is there anywhere it is written in our constitution and electoral law that an already decided civil case nullifies a contestant? This is one of the reasons Obinnwanne’s heartbreak would be sifia after the judgement. They are too emotional about everything. |

Originalsly: Not sure. ... but isn't the distance between Lagos and New York the same in December and February? If yes... then why the big difference in ticket price in December and February?
Ticket price has a lot to do with supply and demand. The algorithm being used in picking price for Nigeria’s IP address doesn’t respect law of demand and supply. It’s deliberate. They know Nigeria has money and we love to spend and brag about it. That’s why the price is always higher than other African countries. The best is to have our own indigenous national carrier that can stand the test of time. Instead of wasting billions of Naira on joint venture with Ethiopian Airline, our federal government should have revived Aero Contractors and make it our national carrier and trade its stocks publicly. The airline has over 60 years of experience operating in Nigeria. It has produced lots and lots of seasoned airline staff. |

HanisahZuwy: Today, I went to a government/general hospital to see a doctor. When I got there, I got card and waited for my turn to see the doctor. Then it was finally my turn and I went in, told the doctor the symptoms I'm experiencing, and then he referred me to the lab for a culture test.
When I got to the lab, I went to the cashier to make payments for the test and thereafter waited for my turn. When it was finally my turn, some documentations were made, instrument for the culture collection was given to me and I was referred to a woman who would handle the culture test.
When I got to her(the woman), she pointed to an enclosure, that I should enter there, UnCloth, lie on the raised bed and open my legs. So, I went in, then came out immediately to ask her if I can collect it myself. She said no, that I won't do it well, that I would just get the surface and won't go deep. So, I agreed. I went in, undressed, got on the bed and open my legs. So, she came and collected the specimen. This was somehow painful because she had to go very deep. After collecting the specimen, she then went to put it in the instrument that was given to me earlier, then came back immediately and said 'keep it up' with a thumbs up sign from her.
Since then, I've been wondering what she meant by that. Does anyone here have a clue what that could mean? May be you have good hygiene and she’s saying you should keep it up. You know they see a lot. But next time, go straight to the point. You only needed one paragraph to explain what you experienced at the hospital but not this long line of write-up. |

The LG chairmen will have to write the governor before they can be allowed to have access to their fund.
My question is if we save a lot of money via subsidy, must we spend almost all our savings at a go? They even force their selected chairmen to sign documents that all local government allocations were released to them in full. Meanwhile, only 30% is released to local governments monthly. |
