ROSSIKE: men's dept said:
Unduly harsh I'd say. Your points are not really saying much.
How many countries on earth really ''manufacture and export phones around the world''?
Only a handful of countries.
And, dismiss Nollywood all you like, but most countries would give an arm and a leg to be home to a $400 million a year movie industry, the world's third largest, with the attendant positive impact on their economy and international standing.
We have moved forward in many ways.
We now have a genuinely indigenous car manufacturing industry in the country (INNOSON). We have the fastest rate of construction in the world after China and India, (and set to surpass them to become THE fastest) See:http://www.africagoodnews.com/infrastructure/infrastructure-finance/1135-construction-in-nigeria-to-become-worlds-fastest-growing-.html
and an economy that's growing at 7.4% per annum, among the fastest in the world. Why not look at THESE as signs of progress. Fact is if all you wish to see is negatives, it's all you'll see.
Cheers. Mr. Man, your points even say less. How many countries do you see people scrambling to on generators just to stay cool? How many countries do you see police officers collecting N20 on roads just to feed their pikin? How many countries do you see the gov't awarding former dictators and their children life pension? Along with Senate president and deputy (Even when they were found to have embezzled ?) Those "handful" of countries that you say are those that Nigeria can't even beat in soccer, not to talk of technological know-how. For Nollywood, So far, I have not seen any country give what you refer to as an "arm and leg" support to them, instead we see Jim Iyke helping us distinguish between "Original" copy and "Fake" Copy. There hasnt been any significant change in our films for nearly 30 years, whereas other countries that are not superior to us in nature have advanced to 3D, Blue Ray, and yes, action films (compared to the Drama-only movies we do). So yes, we have progressed small. That I'll dash you. Why we have low expectations is a shame, when we are capable of doing better. |

Well, I see that you care and are honest. Many of us have one time or the other took selfless drives to improve one compound, village, state organization, diaspora organization, religious movement in Naija, you name it.
But the story you tell about Naija folks drinking Hennessy and Moet, and the lavish parties of Naija people in Naija and overseas, says something dark, and that is, Africa is the dark continent, corrupted by colonialism, imperialism, including self-hate, mass complacency, and cowardly strength.
These things were all foreign to our ancestors, and can be readily combated with a TOTAL revolution and change of how we think, act, and carry on as a people.
If not, then by 2015 election, I GUARANTEE, that all these threads on the Politics forum today, will repeat themselves, and most won't even notice. |

before i left naija, we have already started using internet on our phones. our entertainment industry is the best in africa and even better than the uk's
i believe all we need is to remove our corrupt leaders and we would be fine!!! ( yoruba, igbo or hausa, we are one. we are not going to form any utopian state if we separate. fact!)
GOD BLESS EVERY ONE! Naija is moving 3 steps forward, and 2 1/2 giant steps backwards We can't manufacture and export Naija made phones around the world Our "entertainment" industry is what? Bootleg films from Nollywood? I guess that leaves you with the musicians that are attending Ohakim's 2nd term dark age announcement (Nigga Raw, Flavour lol) Removal of corrupt and even complacent leaders is the only point that you got it right. |
Politics › Re: Jonathan Pleads With Labour To Suspend Strike ! by mensdept: 2:42am On Nov 10, 2010 |
GEJ spoke very well about the consultation and need for all tiers of the gov't to be on the same page, since the minimum wage is not only for Federal workers, but state, lga (are we still seriously using them?) and private sectors. In the Western World where (most) things work (including accountability) you would advocate for this, as you wouldnt expect Mississippi to be paying $5 min wage while South Carolina is paying $8 min wage, which could lead to some chaos. Unfortunately, eleshin: to pay parltry 18k to workers d silly man nids 2 consul but to embezzle billions of naira nobody wud b consulted.4 GOD sake hw much is 18k? that is true, GEJ and co have sliced and diced billions of Naira for state governors, gov't officials, and dozens of projects without consultations, nor without the input of you and I, and frankly, that spending has been UNACCOUNTABLE. |

excanny: People should learn to distinguish between a party's primary elections and the general elections. These two are not the same level playing field.
Numerous instances in the past, even in Nigeria, have shown that having the popular votes does not always translates into victory in a poll. And in Naija how are the two different? Those who have the biggest ghana must go bags and rifles select themselves and force everyone else to accept. The rest are complacent and heading to a Dbanj concert. |

chyz: Thanks, will do.
And for the nigerian civil war, the reason why it is not celebrated unlike the US civil war is because it was unjustly fought.Certain citizens are not discrimated on because of a civil war. In the U.S. both southerners and northners are allowed into presidency and none are discriminated against in terms of federal governmental positions. Nigeria knows that this country wasnt fought to keep us together and by celebrating such a thing, it is a slap in the face to the ones they have oppressed and continue to oppression and it will only cause blood to boil and an uproar. At least that's how I see it. 100% true |

What happened in the match against Greece was just a rush of blood to the head and it could have happened to any one. Notable players have had such moments too. . .Zidane in the final of the 2006 world cup (against Italy), David Beckham against Argentina in 1998 world cup etc etc Mr. Man, let me be the first to kindly tell you that Kaita/Keita is not even on the same level as his Malian counterpart Seydou Keita, not to talk of those you mentioned above (Beckham, ZZ, etc). In 2005, we had a Mikel Obi, who today, does not play the same way, ditto for Keita. There's nothing spectacular about his play, and frankly, if he's recalled fine, if not, better. |

Making 2 good decisions is asking too much from a click indebted to the general corruption and bad leadership in Naija. We have 2012 ANC 2013 ANC so what happens if SIA1 is too much for NFF or gets sacked in 2012? Then WC qualifiers in 2012 before the tournament in 2014, then followed immediately in 2015 by ANC (along with qualifiers I'm sure). |

deb: The biggest problem of Nigerian fans is that we are never patient. It took Westerhof 5 solid years to build a formidable team. He could have been sacked long before he achieved his aim, but thank God he had the backing of the then Military head of states. Question now is, will Nigerian fans be patient enough after the current depleted Eagles expectedly refuse to win their first 5matches under Siasia?
I guess he would be sacked again and our football will never develop again as long as we continue with the cycle 1st of all you have a point in the sense that coaches need time. But let's be careful here because that shouldnt be used as an excuse to promote mediocrity. 2nd, why bring in those useless "Miliitary Head of States" here as if they were responsible for our glory time in soccer. 3rd, Sia1 may not win his first five games 7-nil, but there should be substantial change and progress, including utilizing FIFA days to play friendly matches, proper arrival of players prior to a match, match fitness, transparent team selection, you name it. The basics of course |

Absolute nonsense!
Have u forgotten that u could place Mikel and Messi side by side in 2005, but now u can never compare them in anyway. Therefore Mr Siasia know what he's talking about Thank you. Sia1 spoke very well, and really, he didnt say that Mikel was a bad player or wasnt needed. He just said the obvious. Just look at all the hype and talk of Mikel here on Nland and among Naija groups, so it's not surprising that the National Team Coach who predated Mourinho and those Europeans that some of us adore like gods, made a statement to that effect. |
