He also added that the Buhari-led administration lacks the principle of royal dialogue and has brought the Emirate Council to a point where, if not for Saraki, he would have been in shame over the way investigation into the Jebba contract awarded was handled as it attack his person and the institution he represents.Im not from Kwara but in my deep interest for its history and politics I stay close with happenings in the state, particularly regarding rifts on culture and tradition. The Emir is wrong and untruthful in the above quoted statement. Jebba is older than his ancestors and the throne of monarchy in Jebba was originally under the Oyo Empire. Jebba was an ancient river port and trade confluence for Ilorin and Bida merchants and connected travelers over water with other West African states. This was even long before dan Fodio. Emir of Ilorin is not comfortable with the position of Oba of Jebba as an older institution and a true royal dynasty. He has made numerous attempts dating back to time of military when they acted as surrogates for his throne and empowered Ilorin above higher and more traditional monarchies in the sorrounding areas to usurp power and force non-Fulani domains under his throne. The Emir, with help of Saraki family and particularly when Bukola was governor sidelined the Oba of Jebba and had him under economic restrictions to force his surrender to the Ilorin Emirate, but they failed. About two years ago the Jebba bridge which is a popular crossing across the river and the preferred route for travelers and haulers between West and North was brought down. It was reported as a structural fault and failure but we know that is not true...it was act of sabotage to push Jebba out of economic relevance and force it to bend at the knees before the Emirate. The Oba cried out that they were trying to punish him and his people using economic strangulation. There used to be a paper mill at Jebba. After its closure many years ago the town had suffered setback economically, and now by forcing travellers to reroute away from Jebba it would kill them completely. Considering the importance of Jebba to trade and commerce between West and North, the Minister of Works, Raji Fashola got involved and commenced a fast track recovery and got the bridge rebuilt. The road is a Federal road afterall. The Emirate got bitter because it was excluded in the decision and contract. That's the background behind the nonsense the Emir is uttering publicly. Buhari knows how to talk to royals, this Emir has no respect for his throne or for those thrones that were already at advanced civilization before his ancestors entered this zone. I hope he keeps his word and abdicate the throne after Buhari's win. Saraki has already lost Kwara. When an Emir get up at Jummah service and speaks, the Jamaa obeys. The Jamaa of Ilorin has rejected this Emir and will defeat him and his candidates in the Saraki fold. I love Ilorin people, they might be held down but they are not quiet and will recover from the years of damages and injustice done to them by military leaders like IBB and Abacha. |
How many times have statements of leaders been twisted out of context? This wont be new. The source says pointblanknews. Who is that, a blog site or a reputable news agency? Tinubu movements are covered by professional journalists wherever he goes. Until we hear from a professional, this is nonsense! |

grandstar:As we speak, Yoruba agenda is working under Buhari. That's the bottomline. Jonathan did not include us in his programme. Atiku has excluded us as well, and we can already see if Atiku were to be President what to expect from PDP....we will be sidelined. When have you known Yoruba to be stupid in political projections? Never! We are not going to be stupid for Atiku or PDP. We are comfortable in APC and with Buhari. |
Has anyone heard of this group, I think these are impostors. Why is their Sec. General a Yorubaman? Beside, they are campaigning for SE candidates, and not for Igbo residents, to win elective posts in Lagos.... Weird! |
In order to ensure that Igbo living in Lagos State make impact in the 2019 general elections, Ndigbo United Association, the recognized political organ of Ndigbo in Lagos State, is to screen and streamline south-east candidates that would compete in different elective positions in Lagos State. Speaking at a meeting with some of the candidates, the president of association, Dr Jonathan Nnaji said that for Ndigbo to make impact in the 2019 elections, they must present a common front. He said that all the Igbo who had picked the tickets of their parties would be screened by the association so that only the best would go to the field and win the election for Ndigbo in particular and Nigeria in general. On his part, the Secretary General of Ndigbo group, Dr Femi Ferguson disclosed that a committee had been set up to screen the candidates. He, however, lamented that some of the candidates sponsored and won elections in 2015 betrayed the mandate of Ndigbo, adding that only those who have integrity would get the blessing of the association. http://sunnewsonline.com/2019-igbo-in-lagos-to-streamline-candidates-for-common-front/ |
![]() I am always the one standing up to the challenge on this proposal. Tonyebarcanista had promised a response after Atiku policy document is released. After the release I nudged him, no response. This is good thread and I hope you get good responses without the roforofo fights. |
grandstar:What do you take Yorubas for? I don't know about anywhere else, but I do know in Yorubaland you need two ingredients to win elections 1) endorsement from traditional rulers; 2) social values and the Yoruba agenda. In 2015 PDP turned off the traditional rulers and lost the region. The PDP candidate in Lagos campaigned on power sharing with Ibos. It turned off Oba of Lagos and when the news got hinterland what PDP was trying to do in Lagos, all the Obas, all way to Offa, rejected PDP. Yoruba has its own agenda within the Federation. We practice socialism in Yorubaland traditionally and it is always a priority bullet in any of our political manifestoes, we align with the party that can deliver on socialism. Other factors can arise from outside which would influence our choice in this regard and cause a temporary shift in a different direction in order to preserve the collective race, but without that external interference....our choice and vote is predictable just by observing party manifestoes and agendas. PDP does not have a manifesto to campaign on and sway SW to Atiku. Even the recent policy document that Atiku published is all fanciful and flashy but is not inclusive of Yoruba agenda. Have you seen Yoruba agenda? Get a copy and read, then visit PDP website, then visit APC website and compare. After you read it you will get my point. |
youngalex:My brother, Telecomms is neck to neck with oil revenues in Nigeria. Are you aware? There is competition in Telecomms and it is expensive and poor quality. |
Where is Oritsejafor? I expect to see him at occasions like this. |
The price of fuel is affordable now and the quality is not compromised because of FG subsidies. If we sell them off to private investors FG will no longer subsidize it. It is a high demand commodity, therefore pricing will be at cut-throat level and affordability will be out of reach of most people. Resellers of fuel will begin diluting and compromising quality to maximize profits. Price of public transportation will go up, price of market produce will go up due to input cost. Many will return to bicycle...but fuel marketers will invade and monopolize that market as well and bicycle will go up in price. Productivity will decrease nationwide which will have consequences in IGR and GDP at state level and thus impact budget. I am surprised economists are not speaking up against the idea. |

Bokoharam is not a conventional army and has huge advantage to its side in the cross-regional politics. For example, it can import mercenaries from as far as Mauritania, Libya, Lebanon, Somalia and other places. Consider how easy it is for Nigerians to cross from the coastal Southto North, then board a caravan of trucks and traverse the desert to the Mediterranean coast within days. Even possible to enter Europe from staging points in Libya, Tunisia. Imagine these people are going to North Africa and Europe for a Jihad war. The ease, the goal and allure of striking it rich doing in places where no one knows them or their name and hiding behind that dark identity to perpetrate all kind of vices and atrocities on the humanity in that foreign land. Those who bokoharam recruit fit this profile, except that they are not Nigerians, these guys are usually young men with years of delinquency and behavioral problems, those who their home societies cannot re-integrate into mainstream. They are hopeless and and have nothing to loose. In the bokoharam war they find cause, a purpose...and so they leave their homelands and travel down here. So while bokoharam is finding new recruits to keep its force dynamic and the spirit renewed, our soldiers are not getting relief from new enilstments and replacements. Their spirit is battered and broken. They need a new morale boost. NA should recruit professional psychologists and as well put a plan in place to aid the infantry men. Nigeria has a total combatant force that comprise of Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Police Force, Mobile Police Force, Nigerian Customs, Nigerian Civil Defense Corps, and some others that are trained on gun battle and carry weapons and side armor. A contingent of Mobile Police Force, Customs, NCDS, should be given upgraded training and deployed to the war front. Why do they carry guns if they cannot use it to fight war? This is the call to justify their need for guns. Their deployment will enable those who have spent six straight months in battlefield to get reprieve and recover and rejuvenate for three months before they are redeployed with new spirit and vigour. It's not just guns and ammo that win wars, spirit is just as important and when morale is high, spirit is high. This is what has kept bokoharam sustained and with courage to face bullets...and is why they are winning some pockets of the war. We need their recruitment pool to dry up so they are as de-spirited as the Nigerian soldiers and can at last be obliterated from the landscape. |
Lordkush, Don't make Dasuki into a hero in the midst of all these. Hausas are not asking this question, Yorubas are not asking, Tiv is not asking, Ijaw is not asking, Nupe is not asking, Kanuri is not asking. Why must Ibo stick its neck out unnecessarily to take ownership of controversial and high visibility political risks? Is this bravery or lack of wisdom? Let this thread die. Leave Dasuki alone and face front to 2019 and your support for Atiku. |
PD18:Very well said! The OP has a legitimate claim with the title if we were to go by history, pre and post-colonialism. I believe the discussion should have been between the Edo and his brothers in SS. Pre-colonialism there was nothing called Edo State or SS, the whole of that domain now known as SS, except Itsekiri, was under Benin Kingdom. The reason Oba Ovanramwen Nogbaisi was exiled to Calabar was because the British said his Kingdom extended to Calabar, because at the time all the coastal territories to East of Benin were under Oba throne. They were not same people or same culture but they were under the suzerainty of the Binin Oba. Post-colonialism when the amalgamation and provincial territories were created British tried to document and put people together by culture, by worship or by language. Hence those whose roots were proven to Benin were joined to Benin as could be conveniently and geographically made possible. What saved Onitsha was River Niger, otherwise it would be classified under Benin provincially. As much as we can gather, Onistha was separated from other Ibo provinces and was given a somewhat pseudo-autonomous existence. Where did the Colonialists get this information to know who belonged where? From the missionaries that were on ground and knew the history of the ancient people that populated those areas. When the regions were created, those with roots in Ife were made into Western region. Others that did not make it into Western region were put in Eastern regions for convenience of administration. Benin and the provinces under its administration were put into communality with their ancestral beginning in Ife and were known as Western region. Post-Independence, Western region was broken up and Midwestern created to put Benin back as a autonomous. COR was also scheduled to be created out of Eastern region, as well Middle Belt out of Northern region. The last two did not make it t that time, although COR eventually became autonomous out of Eastern region. Midwestern was further broken to become Bendel (BENin-DELta), which further broke to become Edo and Delta. The two together are now geo-zoned into the SS membership. In actuality, Midwest and COR is what has become SS. So their history is deep and cohesive, though they have gone through many political changes and modifications. There is nothing wrong in OP planting the idea of Edo as a capital. He would be right, just as an Asaba or Rivers, or Calabar, or Warri, can just as well make similar claim. I truly cannot understand how this simple exercise has degenerated inyo this chaos and slingshots across. |

Xda59:Abeg excuse my people, they are only cheerleading, nothing more. They know what time it is but they made noise to give moral supportto SE so they don't think they are alone. If Afenifere is serious about rejcting Buhari in SW why didn't they start by making sure PDP won every election in their region? They are nothing but cheerleaders, abeg don't even count that nonsense from Afenifere. ![]() |
zlantanfan: ![]() This cannot be Buhari in this picture. This is Khaleed. The real Buhari has no hair on his head. ![]() |
Ohanaeze Ndigbo made a uturn last week after committing entire Igbo nation to Atiku and PDP the week before. Two recent outcomes are causing apprehension in SE and they are trying to back pedal from Atiku and PDP because they suddenly realize there is no way Atiku is going to win SW. They clenched to PDP in 2015 and sank with its defeat, they want to stay afloat in 2019 in case PDP looses. From look of things, there is no doubt PDP will loose. 1) Next to Atiku, Saraki is believed to be the strong anchor for PDP nationally. He is campaign Director for Atiku and his legislative influence is expected to bear weight in the election and outcomes. Well, the Director of Atiku campaign lost election in his own frontyard. APC cleared elections in NC, NW and NE. Saraki's effect in Senate has been hijacked from him. He is a sitting duck now. His prowess in Kwara has been humiliated when the winning Kwara legislator went all the way to Lagos to signal his allegiance to a new political order. That's symbolic! In addition, Fayose is the Campaign Coordinator for SW. Fayose is not even in Atiku's faction of PDP, moreover, he is battling EFCC case and does not need the distraction, particularly risky for him that he is now going around without security details. So Fayose will not be a good campaigner, nor can he deliver SW effectively as expected. He has zero immunity and zero security, so he will be sober when he talks about Buhari, the central object that Atiku must remove to become President. 2) The bill to create a Financial Investigative Unit has been passed and is now law. In fact the unit is already at their duty desk as we speak. Election in Nigeria is expensive, the only return on investment is a win. Investors are skeptical of FIU, they fear it more than they do EFCC. EFCC jurisdiction is limited to Nigeria. FIU on the hand work with a network of other FIUs and have a global reach. They can investigate bank accounts on foreign soil using their counterparts in target countries as proxies. Therefore political investors are scaled back....no one wants to put his neck out there unnecessarily, even where the wealth is 100% legitimate, this is not business as usual anymore. President Buhari also issued a declaration recently that corrupt politicians will end up in jail eventually, and he warned Governors that they will account for bailout funds and Paris loan. This is code for if you spend people money on selfish interests don't let us catch you, if we do we will deal with you. These two flags are visible miles away, and I believe SE is not blind. |
odiks:You mean the SW which has REJECTED the SGF position.... If you like give it to a Chadian. Atiku is not getting any mileage in West. |
I'm not sure, but I think Buhari was attending an event in Church here, possibly a funeral and they took off cap in respect. Does this guy look like a person that will Islamize Nigeria? Buhari killed Nigeria's membership as an observer in OIC back in 84. IBB took power and reinstated the observation status, and eventually we became full member of Organization of Islamic Conference. If anyone had intent of Islamizing Nigeria it was IBB. Haters should leave Buhari alone. He is older than Atiku but more agile and a loving husband who does not believe in acquiring a harem, even though his religion allows him four. Very simple guy! ![]() |

Oshigun:I don't plan to have high BP on Nairaland. When I see people like that I just flow along with them and inject sarcasm, no need fighting his mind. To the Igbos wailing on this thread, are you aware few weeks ago Sanwoolu was at Igbo day celebration and felicitated with some Ezes? Fulanis did not call him Igbo slave. Please stop embarrassing your tribe on internet, please. Are there no elders or some educated and sensible Igbos to intervene and shut down your noise? This is humiliating to the enter tribe, to see your people wailing about a simple visit of the Governor candidate to Northerners residing inside his State. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/11/photos-sanwo-olu-at-igbo-in-lagos/ |
IbrahimDamola:Use all the adjectives you can find to twist this issue, if you like sef call Yoruba Thug Nation...we accept it, there is nothing wrong with what Oluomo is doing. After 2019 election we will regain our brains, but for now we prefer the way it is ...LOST and in the controlling palm of Oluomo. ![]() |
shukuokukobambi docadams:Atiku does not have identity problem, we Nigerians have identity problems. How do we know whos is Nigerian and qualified to rule us and who is unqualified to hold office? We don't. So we have a problem. Atiku is not Fulani. He used the Fulani to get quota advancement in Customs. It worked because no one ever challenge it...and so he stuck with the story. His background is shady. He was born in 1946 from the second wife to his father. He claims his father died in youth and he is the only surviving child after his sister died in infancy. Where are the children from the first wife? Let's assume the first wife had no children. In the North and amongst the Fulani when a father dies his young children are absorbed into the paternal family for support. It is an aberration that a truly married woman in a family unit will be left with custody of a only surviving son for upbringing. The Fulanis didn't do it then, they don't do it now. So Atiku story of being Fulani, and that his father died in youth get K-Leg. Where are his father's kins? No one has ever heard of any next of kin on his father's side or even mother's side. Atiku does not have the look of Fulani, does not have the mannerisms of Fulanis, is unable to authenticate his pedigree to a known and validated background. He is likely one of the local tribes of the Adamawa mountains conquered by Fulanis and under the British Cameroons territory before they were joined with Nigeria in 1961....a year after our independence. Atiku's shady background deserve thorough investigation, far moreso than whether Buhari is the real one or cloned copy...or whether or not he has a Senior Leaving Certificate. |
OP, How is Oluomo fighting on the street different from Senators that fight in the chamber, tear each other clothings, threaten to rape female member and use mace as weapon to cause bloody bodily injury? ....and they are all PDP Senators. |
Bannylove13:There is a Daily Times editorial from 1986 that I once read, Im looking for but cant find it online. This is when I need it to share the perception and feelings few months after Buhari was overthrown back in 1985. People were complaining of how politicians in Shagari's regime had ruined the treasury and political thuggery had become an everyday norm. You can be standing at the bus stop and loose an ear to matchette blade from a thug who felt you didnt fit the look of an NPN supporter. Just like that....and nothing would happen. Mobile police were the only law enforcement agency back then issued with assault rifles and they were in NPN pocket. Then Buhari came and people trooped to the streets and jubilated at the change. Within months he had implemented Operation War Against Indiscipline and Sanitation programs. People loved it because the acts of gross indiscipline and filthiness that preceded that period was insulting to their moralities and sense of dignity. Society was very disorderly and brutal, but Buhari instilled a new recovery in which no one was above law. Even mobile policemen who were the untouchables and can do and undo because people feared becoming victim of their accidental discharge, they too were sobered. If a soldier catch mobile policeman flouting law in public he will frog-jump him in front of everybody and humiliate him. The soldiers themselves behaved themselves and conducted themselves with restraint because their own leadership practiced discipline and integrity. People now queue when there is need for orderliness to enter bus, enter a building or get any service. No driver flout road regulations without some penalty if caught. Streets that would typically flood when it rained were no longer flooding because environmental sanitation cleared clogged gutters and rain water drained out easily. Buhari introduced austerity measures, meaning it is lean time, and we need to cut our coat to size. Gradually sanity and progress began to creep in....very slowly but people felt it. You were reassured when you enter a ministry that you would get what you want and not need to bribe. Civil servants, some of whom would not show up at work until 12noon, stay two hours and leave to go home.....that nonsense stopped! Civil servants reported to work and were forced to be punctual or there is a penalty. You did not cross the road anyhow you want, you must use zebra crossing or the overhead pedestrian bridge. If you are caught crossing the street you were frog-jumped. People were not used to living in orderliness and clean and working environment. We desired to be left alone to do things anyway we want and when an authority tells us how to do things that is good for us we rebelled. People lived under the regime but the regime itself was short-lived. When Babangida coup happened, rather than revolt against the change, people again trooped to the streets and jubilated....glad to be freed. Not long after, Nigerians were complaining of Babangida and wanting Buhari back. I will follow this thread and keep looking for that editorial and if i find it i will return and update. At times like this we need witnessing like that. So it is programmed in us to always seek variation. We approach rulership the same attitude we have towards infrastructure - we lack habit and perseverance to bear, to endure, to sustain, to stretch....we quickly loose focus and attention, even when we are under a favorable condition that permits promising outcomes we are bored already and want to dispose it. It is for the same reason that we donot maintain infrastructures. We are delighted when it is new...but we soon loose pride in it and want to be pleased with another new infrastructure for bragging rights. The money that could have been spent maintaining the old one is now wasted constructing a new albatross, most often ugly and depleting to the environment. If Buhari leaves and Atiku comes in, in less than 4years we will be tired of him and wishing he could go and be replaced by another one. How can we sustain long term goals and agendas by switching leaderships and agendas up and down? More than looking for a new president, we need a new awakening...I believe that should lead the national consciousness as a priority and urgent call. |
Our Mission To provide the appropriate political leadership for: · Building a strong, resilient and prosperous economy. · Establishing a strong and effective democratic government that secures our people and provides opportunities for them to realize their full potentials, allows greater autonomy for our federating units, and gives each region of the country a sense of belonging. · Reinforcing Nigeria's Unity by promoting the spirit of cooperation and consensus among its heterogeneous peoples. These three critical elements are closely linked and influence one another in a dynamic manner. For example, as has been universally demonstrated, the spirit of co-operation and consensus in a nation of diverse ethnic groups, cultures and religions, is required to establish, nurture and sustain a strong and effective democratic government. The structure of the country as it is, is not working properly as it should. This indeed is the reality. If we are to grow into a strong, competitive and prosperous economy, we must re-structure the economy and the polity. We must adopt a new economic management model that will cure all the federating units of this addiction to oil revenues. Through constitutional means, we must strive to establish a new political structure that reinforces the concept of 'true federalism' by conceding unfettered autonomy to the subordinating units and ensuring government accountability at all levels. I know it is going to be a lot of hard work, with no quick fixes. It needs a leader that is resilient, disciplined and dedicated, and passionate about Nigeria to fight for it, and consistent enough to guide the country through the rough times ahead. I pledge to remain focused and make the tough decisions needed to move the country forward. The Covenant 1. We shall guarantee to the Nigerian people, a progressive and focused government, with a vision and positive notion of development, aided by professionalized and result-oriented public service. 2. We shall reposition the public sector to become more accountable, disciplined and performance-oriented. Service delivery shall be more efficient and effective. 3. We shall build a dynamic and competitive economy. Nigeria's economic growth shall be inclusive, equitable and humane: our 22 dream economy shall create jobs for our youth. 4. Economic development will be people-centred and Nigeria's new prosperity shall be for all. We shall enhance access to economic opportunities and shall consciously make the basic needs of life, including health, education, electricity, water and housing, readily available and affordable for everyone: our dream economy shall lift our people from poverty and narrow the income gaps. 5. We shall endeavor to achieve and maintain a balance between the rural and urban sectors of the economy and between the various federating units and geo-political zones. 6. We shall ensure increased public-private sector interface for the financing of joint development projects. 7. We shall, through constitutional means, achieve a new political structure that guarantees freedoms and ensure government accountability at all levels. Our political reform shall reinforce the country's concept of 'true federalism' by conceding unfettered autonomy to the other two tiers of government (states and local governments); 8. We shall promote the politics of inclusiveness that will reduce citizens' frustration and alienation and that way, eliminate the motivation to take up arms against the society or fellow countrymen. 9. We shall restore the citizen's confidence in Nigeria as one indivisible, indissoluble, ethnically diverse but strong country that will protect and secure socio-economic benefits for all. 23 10. We shall emphasize prevention, detection and certain, swift and severe punishment of corruption. Consequently, we shall build institutions and encourage a national culture of accountability, efficiency and transparency. 11. We shall rigorously enforce judicious use of public resources, with zero tolerance for nepotism, corruption and poor management. 12. We shall recognise the central place of the rule of law and ensure the supremacy of law over all persons and authorities. The Nigerian constitution will be the anchor on which the independence of the judiciary, personal liberty and democratic and other fundamental rights rest. Responses to the above later. I am reviewing some chapters from Atiku's 2015 policy document in archive in reference to the above. |
