@seir405, look for any school in Alberta. As an engineer stay in Alberta area. Univ of calgary, university of sakskachewan, lethbridge univ etc

@soyomoney, ACCA is not recognised in North America, Brock is also a good school, but please look for the program that has internship stream and also try to look for a 2years MSC program. Dont do one year msc as it might humt u later in regards to getting work permit after graduation

@soyomoney, msc accounting is a good one. Not many people dey do that course for here. But after that u have to get certification eg CA, CGA or CBV. An accountant without certification here is not that respected.


CA= Chartered accountant
CGA= certified general accountant
CBV= Certified Business Valuator. (This one hard die, but pays more)

Look into University of Waterloo i think that they have a good accounting course. I have a friend looking into PHD Accounting. I go try connect the both of una when he returns from naija.

@etochi, advise from a fellow Masters degree holder, use that N1M import something to naija, sell and make money. If u go do masters after masters, what next? U go still end of for d horrible job market. Or better still use that money import some Bold 5 from Canada. I beg no attack me that just advise. :-)

@ Flyboyzee, True talk. People with Masters and CFA dey drive taxi abroad. Any graduate that doesnt want to apply should not. No be by force. Graduate without money is shit, na naija dey put too much emphasis on been a graduate. Wetin we dey even learn self for our schools?. My fellow graduates, certificate is just a paper and nothing more. Chase the money and forget reputation. Get ur hands dirty if it comes down to that sothat u could put food on ur table. Nowadays, no be by school.

@Nlam forget about school ranking. Every school in Canada is good. just go to any school that u can afford. USASK is a good one considering the fact that there are lots of jobs around saks.

If i have had someone advise me i wouldnt have spent the amount that I did (If i had been advise properly i would have spent half of that money by going to a cheaper school and used the balance for business). I am directing masters students on the right province to go to and the right school to go to for their course.U are doing ur MS (Good), make me wey don finish advise my people now.

@Poster, i guess u are from the states. N60m (US$375,000) for a night club. Do u really have the cash or are u taking out a line of credit? As a Banker, I find that underwriters hardly approve credit for the pupose of opening a night club or restaurant cos the business goes down in no time. If u have that kind of money, why dont u look for a Fund Manager that would invest ur funds in less aggressive investments. Do ur research and dont listen to what people say.

I beg you not to spend that money in opening a night club. The following companies have good money managers: RBC Dominion securities, BMO Nesbitt Burns, the list goes on and on. These are the ones that I have dealt with in the past.

Or better still go get McDonalds Franchise (its high time naija get mcdiees). KFC is doing so well in Naija.

Not really. I know lots of Nigerian guys in colleges especially Algonquin college. If u package yourself well u will be given the visa.

@poster if u are making a lot of money in the US then stay there. Only go back if u have good connection in Nigeria. My cousin's resume is similar to urs. Bsc from UMBC, MBA from UMBC. 9years experience from Bank of America (2yrs Branch Manager). He relocated to naija last year dec and up till now no job, he is now working for his dad. Even if you relocate to naija what they would pay u might not be enough.

Advise: shuttle back and forth. I dont think u need a PHD just get ur accounting designation. Preferably try getting CBV (chartered business valuator). I am saying this cos i am currently doing ma DBA am doing it just for self accomplishment but job wise i dont need it.

My brother u would have to google that. But lemme advise u. There is no need to burn millions of naira for 4years studying estate management. The best thing for u to do is go to a college in Canada (1yr program max $12,000 tuition) after that you do some certification eg get real estate license or CPM (Certified property manager). Trust me, Canada respects Certification more than degree.
