NwaAmaikpe2nd: I don't think that anybody has badmouth me to him.
He is a very busy man and he doesn't have time for silly gossip,so i am not thinking in that angle.
He is just sturbborn and am i ready to battle it with him with cogent reasons why his decision on my life is selfish and can not stand. No, I didn't mean a bad story about you, I mean a touching story about one of his friends or family members wives or something that he doesn't want to repeat in his own life. Such things tend to scare people You know the way people come with their friends problem when we discuss issues here Sorry, I read my previous post back and realised that it wasn't clear. Yes just keep asserting yourself, I hope he will come around. |

NwaAmaikpe2nd: You re highly welcome too.
He is a practicing christian worshipping with winners chapel while i am a practicing catholic. So you see that we are both religious but i don't understand why he doesn't see any wrong with pre-marital sex for christ sake. Nawao. Well, you will just have to keep working on him...me I don't know what to say to that It seems like he is worried about something or he has heard some kind of bad story before somewhere that is making him to try to get a baby from you ahead of time. Maybe you will find out what's bothering him and explain to him why he has nothing to worry about |

Have you tried talking to him from a spiritual angle At least it would sound strange to a practicing Christian to be pregnant on their wedding day |

Barzinime: My point is that dreads is not part of our way of life and that is why people castigate it. Like they say "when you are in rome behave like the romans'' Yes, but he is asking "why" Most of the reasons people gave here are somewhat tangential. This is how they coerce black women in the western world into relaxing their hair and prevent them from wearing natural hair/braids to work without any particular reason apart from "it looks unprofessional". Unprofessional according to who?? |

Barzinime: My bad that i didnt get to notice it was in the "fashion section" From your illustration, the OP shoudn't be concerned the way people perceive someone on dreadlocks. I am just saying "'do want you want to do and live with it" He is not saying he will not live with it, he is asking why there is a negative attitude towards it in our society It's easy to tell somebody to go ahead and "live with it" without minding what people will say, what of all the scorn, embarrassment, harassment and lost opportunities that will come of that decision? My own is that it's not an unreasonable question to ask if it's what's bothering him |

It's your choice to break the virginity but doing it on the basis of fertility is no good
There are plenty of people who never had sex who still face fertility issues so that's not a reason
If he wants to test your fertility tell him to take you for a check up |

tintingz: Another correction: Dreadlocks is not a sign of "razzness" in Jamaica, it's a religious thing called Rastafarian. Rastafarians (or their lifestyle) are not fully accepted in Jamaican society. The movement was a rebellion against the restrictive and racist class system left over from colonialism and slavery It created shockwaves and most Jamaicans didn't like it when it started. They associate it with a wild and undisciplined lifestyle Jamaican society is governed a lot by race and skin colour, which is why there is a bleaching craze there. Not all Jamaicans are black. There are white, Chinese, Indian, Jewish, Syrian and mixed heritage Jamaicans. The black majority is economically and socially disadvantaged. If you look at poor slum communities where all that popular music comes from and then look at wealthy areas where middle and upper-class Jamaicans live and work you will see the difference between their dressing and styles, their attitudes to issues and outlook on life Do your own research before going around and about in my mentions! |

Barzinime: No.1 Can you marry someone going to a white garment church with dreads? No.2 Is dreadlocks a Nigerian thing? No.3 If your teenage child decide to be on dreads will you allow him/her?
Not saying dreads is a bad thing tho but people with dreads are associated with so many bad things in Nigeria 1. Chronic Weed Smokers 2. Internet Fraudster especially the ones with tattoos 3. White garment church member(which some people have phobia for) 4. A Lunatic 5. People that are not responsible cos its going to be hard getting a white collar job on dreads.
The problem with Nigerians is that we dont copy positive things from the western world only thing that is of no value or meaningful importance, if majority of Nigerians have phobia or dislike for people with dreads what has that got to do with the country progressing? The reason i love Asian is that they dont allow the western way of life interfere with their culture and beliefs, its only here in Africa we allow bullshit. You can't just reduce all issues to "what has that got to do with the country progressing". This is a relevant issue to the poster and he opened it in the "fashion section". If someone opens up a debate about a social topic, is that not dialogue and therefore progress? Must we talk about kainji dam every day? |

For over 40 years now, that man has been dead yet.....

I really want to see how long he will continue to be there. Every time the radio plays his song or a movie uses his song in a soundtrack, he gets more money |

Religion and culture limits the rate at which people stray But our culture also includes native tattoos and scarification, are they not harmless? africandictator: wow but dreads did not originate in Jamaica.. the origin of dreadlocks can be traced to the Middle East (Nazareth’s) and Africa Ethiopians and west Africans.. including Egyptians. And yes some dreads can be really neat and attractive. Jamaicans do not detest dreadlocks, infact they have ministers and mayors with dreadlocks! Excuse me, you are right. What I meant was where the recent "revival" started They do not all detest dreadlocks but general society disapproves of it. It isnt really regarded well with them, if somebody like a minister wears it then they are doing it to make a statement. Dreadlocks are kind of a sign of being razz for them. If they see you with it they will mentally put you in a particular category the same way most people here look down on tattoos They are moving towards accepting it but a lot of schools and professions will not allow it |

Even in Jamaica which popularised it it has a bad reputation
Its not to my personal taste but I dont think people who have them are automatically bad. The same goes for tattoos or piercings
You just reminded me of a lady I saw this morning with loc'ed hair...all the dreads were unform size, parted neatly... In fact I stopped walking just to look at them, they must have been the cleanest, neatest dreads I have ever seen
The dislike stems from the belief that people who wear them are irresponsible. And the spiritual connotation of "dada" doesnt really help either
I should think its a mixture of superstition and narrow-mindedness about what is "acceptable" |
