tintingz:Not all religious people sound like that, its possible to be religious and realistic at the same time. Youre just using unreasonable people to paint all people who follow religion bad We are going around in circles, if you say prayers are the same as music then you shouldnt disregard the beneficial aspects of prayers. If you admit that it has some effect then why do you try to do away with it? If the person takes their medication and also prays how is it a bad thing? We are not comparing which is "more" effective. They are effective in different ways What about people who take different medications but are still sick? And then they pray and their illness is gone? |
kluivertngong:Tribe has an impact on behaviour, to be honest What somebody's culture teaches them to do has an impact on their behaviour but its just that there are other factors like education, environment, religion, individual personality, parentage, upbringing, financial status etc that offset the impact of cultural background There must be some basis for stereotypes even if we dont really like them. To an extent its good to discuss them so we can see how others regard us Its a good intention but its naive and somewhat disingenuous to say that it doesnt matter where somebody comes from, because we all know that it does |
Oreofepeters:What! give me an example. I write things any other person would write...not controversial at all. That one up there you just quoted, what is unusual about it? By the way local man you must be addicted to Nairaland yourself, or how do you see my irritating posts? ![]() |
Oreofepeters:I have a wide range of interests...do my posts bother you? |
Korllami007:That's what I thought! But people keep quoting you saying it sounds like a great idea that's why I was confused lol |
You have to find out why she's trying to stop you from meeting her parents. That is the key She's pregnant for you while still married to another dude...you impregnated her while still married..you guys have to arrange yourselves But I dont know why she would be delaying since you have already indicated that you are ready to pay her bride price Find out why she's avoiding your meeting her parents because it doesnt make sense But this one the first one wasnt ready to manage with you, is this one ready? Maybe she doesnt want her parents to complain that she is leaving the (maybe wealthier) husband for someone who is not financially buoyant And to answer your question, its possible for the bride price to not have been paid fully if all rites have not been observed properly due to disorganisation or a quarrel between parties |
Korllami007:Lol but do you genuinely think this would work?? Auntie pouring out her relationship failure to you when she couldn't even tell her own baby? Maybe I'm not getting something here |
emmysoftyou:I understand you and I am Igbo myself but no need mentioning tribe right now because this situation can apply to anybody and its not like anybody's parent would like them to marry a problem. It's difficult for people to open up about some certain things, he should just give her a chance if really he likes her. Some people are ashamed or embarrassed about the past, Some peoples parents are selfish and won't like them to succeed where they have failed. Some people are just unreasonable and won't like to help you even if you are their daughter. If they get angry at all the girls questions and chase her and stop talking to her for like 3 months, then what? Or you think everybody is normal just because they gave birth to a child? He should keep investigating but take it easy on her, it's not her fault |
sassysure:Whether pastor or no pastor, they had an arrangement which he agreed to so he can't now begin to complain. How can she be hurting him when she made her stance known over a year ago? Why did he suddenly decide to be hurt after the wedding? He has "tried" to do what exactly? If he doesn't regard the church wedding as anything he should have made that clear before now. He just wanted to get the wedding over with so that he could start bullying her. Imagine he has already called her parents, were her parents there when he "did not actually take her serious"? Rubbish This is an intimidation and he should stop it if he's serious |
Chigold101:Well, he has a point but he just shouldn't have disregarded prayer. I disagree with you telling OP to go and seek spiritual help if the test is not working if it means abandoning the medical aspect. I think she should seek spiritual help that will help her to find a cure and keep going for treatment. Is it also what you were saying? |
emmysoftyou:Yes, it's very important to investigate very well so that you won't be in for any nasty surprises after the wedding. But that doesn't mean you have to be insensitive about it. Or you haven't seen an elder get offended by certain questions before? They will get irritated, especially if such a thing is coming from a young person It's not her fault if her mother avoids answering her so he should still giver her some time because it's not as easy as "just go and ask her". It's even worse to open up the past of an elderly person because the emotions can be much when they look back and remember |
peepydelano:It's definitely an issue if she is not a virgin because that would mean she has been lying all along...too bad Being God-fearing doesn't mean you will marry somebody under false pretenses. If she had been having sex before and has now renounced it then she should have said so But I agree with you that he should just arrange the church wedding because it's what they agreed on. |
marvin905:It's not really a fúcked up mentality...you have to take somebody's family background into consideration when intending to marry, that's just the truth. Your upbringing has an effect on your behaviour and how you deal with issues. At the same time it may be painful for her so he should still give her some time. And it's awkward to ask your parents such questions because they may feel you are being disrespectful It's not his fault but then it's not her fault either. He should ease the pressure on her a bit if he really likes her because it's easy to tell somebody to "go and find out". What if the person doesn't want to tell her? Parents are still human beings, a failed relationship is not something most people would like to talk about |
highbee02:Thank you, where is your own comment let me read what you think |
AkhereOkaka:That may be the case but it's not the issue here She already told him what she was planning and he didn't bother to take it up with her so that means he was okay with the arrangement. How will somebody know you don't like something except if you tell them? Is she a mind reader?? The bolded shows that you didn't read the OP very well. |
tintingz:These things are not mutually exclusive. Our aim is to keep the patient as healthy as possible, both at the point of treatment and as a preventative measure. Will we wait until the person is overcome with disease? Won't we encourage somebody to pray if it helps their well-being? You insist that prayers have never been proven to "work", the question is work on what? There are plenty of studies looking at the effect of spiritual practice in healthcare if you care to look for them. Exactly! Music, prayer, drawing, singing, watching movies all help people to de-stress and have a positive effect on the body. So I don't see why you're just picking on prayer as if it's bad Anatomical systems are plenty and they are integrated; taking care of one means you are helping the others. You can't say that religious people shouldn't be in hospital if prayers works, how would you prove it? Do you know how many people have been prevented from being admitted into hospital because of their prayers? What about people who take medication, they should never go to church again? |
Martinez39:Nope, he is the one who backed out of it. Where did I say she was the one? Lying about virginity is a different matter. If this arrangement was unacceptable to him he had ample chance to say so before now. I don't understand what would make you advocate for kicking someone out and refunding bride price over an arrangement he himself failed to keep. |
Martinez39:Lol, I hope you can respond like this the next time you have an arrangement with somebody and they back out of it at the last minute |
Wuzyurdaddy:They still what ![]() |
ty4real123:So does the sentence "when the school light was taken" sound normal to you? Even if it's solar you shouldn't be forced to go and sit out in the middle of the night...see them sitting there like a bunch of peasants...are they reading their books or reading the sand ![]() |
Lol! Rotten fish giant of Africa! |
They could've posted the beads without showing the other body parts |
This is a very good question. Following |
I have heard the ngwa, mbaise and imo state gist before. In fact the person that said it was from imo state herself That ngwa stuff is more like old news, I don't think people really think they indulge in that stuff anymore. I haven't heard that anambra women are promiscuous, only that they are stubborn/arrogant in marriage and divorce a lot I think I have been warned not to marry from almost everywhere to the point that I can't even take my parents seriously again |

tintingz:You are being narrow-minded. When did I say one should exclusively pray for a malaria cure? I don't think you even read my post. A good immune system is one of the primary barriers against disease. It's been shown that prayer has a beneficial effect on the psychology, in which stress plays a part. If a person prays and reduces their cortisol release and stress and it helps them ward off potential susceptibility to illness, what right do you have to say that it doesn't work? Healing is the process of fighting disease and its made up of many components, including the power of mind. A person who feels unburdened because he has peace of mind from prayer will be better off healthwise than one who has no outlet for his frustrations That's not to mention lowering blood pressure which we have a huge problem with in this country. No need to be biased against prayer when you don't want others to be biased against medicine |
foyeks2001:Lol and who told you your meat would be tasty Do you think its everybody we want to eat ? ![]() Cannibalism get level dear |
