arrestdarrester: Lies! Lies!! Lies!!!
Why didn't she mention the medical school? She doesn't want guys to dig her results and her scripts? Med schools can keep such for donkey years you know.
Secondly and if she must know, no lecturer can hold you back from progressing in any med school if you know your stuff.
She did a good job with UNILAG and the University of Ghana, but garnishing it with lies is a no no for me. Are you serious?? You want her to randomly mention somebodys name on international tv with no video-/photographic evidence whatsoever? So how does she get back to her old school of probably up to 5 years ago and start filming the old man? Do you know if he's still there? How do you know shes not in the middle of an open case with the school and she doesnt want to forfeit it? How will she keep herself together after having to relive all the bad memories of why she dropped out? You want her to finish herself because of documentary? |

Jabzino: I like what you have written man, but now my question is this,.. This same act exhibited by this pastor can also be exhibited by a politician who feels he can use his power to get her in school, true or false? I might be missing the point, but this video is no prove of sex for grades.. This videos shows how lecturers can't control there urge for sex and use girls that have issues right, which is understandable via the video, but it literally do not compliment the sex for grade as the topic, U get? Did u hear any of the lecturers saying sleep with me, I will give you good grades?, the pastor just said people do it and they give girls good grades in school but under which terms of agreement?, we don't know, cos he dint say it. True. But i feel you are taking it too literally... the point of the video was to highlight the vulgarity of these people...not to specifically show them asking outright for sex for grades. They interviewed some survivors and then went on to demonstrate the type of thing they were talking about. It doesnt mean you have to start picking at the title or the topic...the issues being confronted are still the same That is the bad behaviour that these people display and how it affects people |

Kokaine: at the end of the day, she didn't do the right thing. She didn't justify the topic at hand with the content of her videos. It says sex for grades and harassment. Nothing in the video showed either harassment victimization or grade. You people arent getting it...the point was not to show them having sex...the point was to highlight the vulgar and intimidating behaviour of the lecturers that facilitates the sex for marks So you didnt see the disgusting toad shaking his flabby legs in his stupid prayer, leering at the girl?? |

And the aim of the whole exercise would have been defeated. Jabzino: BBC bringing out this documentary is not WRONG!!. but this story focuses mainly on the ladies who have a problem and approaches this lecturers themselves. My question is, why wont they bring out a documentary that shows students who are serious with there academics been harassed by this lecturers. Majority of the ladies who are been harassed here are those who met them for a reason. How would a lady who needed admission seek the help of a lecturer she don't even know, is he the owner of the school? You are missing the point. The man is supposed to send her away, then they won't have any story or documentary to show. He's a fifty-something year old man, are you saying he can't trust his own judgement again? If a girl approaches you talking nonsense, can't you pack her on her way? |

you are the one bringing white people into it because english is white man's language, even if you read your book you are still judged using the white man's language which means seeking academic and intellectual validation from white people.
not knowing how to speak or write english properly is not dumbing ourselves down, you are the one that sees it that way, we are not competing with people all over the world, competition ends in Nigeria unless you want to study outside Nigeria then you can say "competing with the world"..

codemaniacs: been able to explain and express oneself to everyone's understand is a skill the OP isn't really good at and he probably failed the course and his going through anxieties right now, expressing himself properly in his current state of mind is not easy.
we don't know him, we don't know if he already has jobs waiting for him and if his family has a good network and can get him a good job.
you cannot solve a mathematical problem wrongly if you know the right method, in maths the right method will lead to the right answer..
again, we don't know his current mental state, he may not need future interviews if he has a strong network.. If hes not good at it, no problem. But you guys shouldnt defend it as if its normal. Nobody is perfect but that doesnt mean we cant improve and you shouldnt start bringing white people into it as if its the white people who stopped you from reading your book LOL what has good network got to do with it? So with all his good network, he will never have to write anything again for the rest of his life? So after theyve finished connecting him, how will he write emails and presentations for his boss? ok, what i meant was if you make a wrong step in your calculation but still get the other ones, will you get full marks? Nobody minds his mistakes but we shouldnt be dumbing ourselves down just because its an imposed language. We are competing with people all over the world, its a wrong attitude to have |

codemaniacs: On paper, its the national language while in reality most people don't use it.
it is foreign and not adopted it was imposed on the education system but our ancestors/politicians didn't and have not removed it.
if he wrote the wrong thing in his language I still wouldn't correct him as long as I understand his message..
how to improve his skills and grades is more important than his written or spoken communication, its his skills that will get him jobs in future. On paper, its the national language and its that paper he will use to communicate with people. What he speaks in his own personal reality is his own business. We dont know him, his prospective employers dont know him, he is just one person competing with millions of people so he should communicate with others in a way that matches his intellect It was imposed and now we have adopted it, just like hundreds of countries all over the world. Its not right but thats how it is You still wouldnt correct him even if he wrote wrong Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa, and you are the problem here. Our ancestors who came up with our languages are not stupid, languages have rules for a reason. Why not learn them so that people can understand you? Ok if somebody solves a mathematical problem wrongly but uses the right method, you would award him full marks? His written communication is a big part of his skills and grades, how will he write his project if they cant read what hes saying? Its his communication that will get him through the door in future interviews |

codemaniacs: this is exactly the problem with midnighter and einsteine...
the same way a chinese is not expected to speak good English because they don't teach them in English is also the same way a Nigerian is not expected to speak good english even if they are taught in english...
a lot my classmates spoke their languages to each other once the teachers were not in class or once school had finished for the day, this means in most homes people don't communicate in english.
it has nothing to do with embracing mediocrity, some people are intelligent due to their environment, parents, upbringing e.t.c and some are not intelligent due to the examples above. We are not talking about intelligence, of course he must be intelligent. But why cant he communicate his ideas effectively? Why is he writing the wrong thing and then expecting everybody to squeeze their brain trying to read it? Its actually disrespectful to come to address people in public and behave in a backward manner. If you go to read the bible at the front of your church, you wont do so with an open blouse and then bark at people who tell you to zip up Are you telling me that Nigerians are so stupid that we cant even handle two languages? When you close for the day, will you go home and address your people in nonsensical Igbo? How can you compare a chinese and nigerian? So if you are taught something for decades, you should be communicating at the same level as somebody who didnt learn it at all? if you go to school and start chattering to people in your language and you dont learn anything, is it anybodys fault? |
Education › Re: LASU Computer Science Department Poor Results (Screenshots) by midnighter(f): 12:51pm On Oct 08, 2019 |
codemaniacs: In your opinion english is Nigeria's national language but most people don't care about english or even communicate in english in Nigeria.
it is not about wrong attitude to learning.. most people are limited to their teachers/lecturers knowledge even though they can do their own research and perform better... most times its about who is doing the teaching/lecturing and how the teaching/lecturing is been done..
where they given tests and class works to test their knowledge?
I am not defending stupid attitude because the OP is not stupid. you are the one who puts anything foreign above the indigenous cultures of the country. Again, its about how the OP was taught and you understanding that there is no such thing as "higher education" because education does not end in university.. Its not my opinion. The country's national language is english whether people care about it or use it to communicate or not. i meant a wrong attitude to learning in terms of him not listening to the advice he was given. I personally dont know whether the department of computer science is any good or not. i didnt say OP was stupid. he was arguing with a simple correction which i think is a silly way of thinking Its not foreign in as far as we have adopted it. And you didnt answer my question. If he wrote that thing in wrong yoruba or igbo, would you be saying all this? Yeah education does not end anywhere! you can say that again so why are you guys not open to learning how to improve your written communication? Whatever we are doing, lets do it well and stop making lame excuses |

zikter: There is something like "fluent in spoken and written English" in the job market as well. The point is that, no serious organization will employ someone that writes poorly in this way. It is not all about understanding the communication. On the basis of his written English, one cannot vouch that, he has the IQ to pass the course. No one is looking for a perfect write up, but this is below minimum for an undergraduate and even for some of us that are not English masters. Thank you. we dont need perfection in an informal setting like this but he can at least write something we can all understand |
