I have one issue with their nomenclature for agencies. LAWMA, LASERMA, LAWSEMA....please! We already know its Lagos State,no need to put LA. The state logo speaks for itself.

People are now following their example and forming names. LACASERA, LALASTICA... grin
Well, it is a Nigerian thing. If you look at our acts, the ones that start with letter N are the largest. National, Nigerian etc, there must always be a 'NA'. The use of LA is to distinguish it from other state.

Lagos is 'lucky' because they are the only state with letter L. States like Niger vs Nassarawa; Oduduwa States, Kano vs Kaduna and the likes usually put the first three letters of the state. Once there is a national agency (in this case, FERMA), states use up to the first four letters of their names to set up theirs. Basically just an identity thing.

Perhaps, that is a reason our president attends to the international press and responds promptly to international issues. If the station's representatives saw this, they would cash in on this knowing fully well the viewing 'interests' of Aso Rockstars sad

I am surprised people commented without condemning the OP for putting a fake source. I followed this news and nowhere in the credible media outlets was it stated that "President Buhari ordered closure" except in these wannabe online sites.

Just because you want to generate comments doesn't equate to falsifying stories. The OP and cohorts who inserted the PMB part don't realise how stupid it is for PMB to order a closure then NBMA issues a warning. In an attempt to just add PMB in all issues, they goofed on this.

I will urge people to be careful before deliberating on issues. You don't want to be a rumour monger.

Wow!!! You know in Africa there's a lot of expectations from the woman and what some people fail to realise is the context at which such could be applied. Imagine if your husband helped by doing the cooking, some relatives will see it as him doing your responsibilities despite your conditions.

I think the delivery specialists owe it to the new mom to call whoever will be the caregiver and enlighten them on this. The husband in particular should be spoken to because he'll be the link between his spouse and others.

Naija FM and Wazobia FM may start to 'compete' but content is the koko.

On Saturdays, the station (Bond FM) doesn't seem to have much listenership from afternoons to evenings (my observation) and it is interesting to note that the followers they brought from Nigeria Info have also switched to pidgin language. For me, Bond FM being a 'wazobia' station would allow for 'freedom of expression' in any language. However, just as sports aka football dominated TV on Saturdays, the same is going on now for radio. undecided

You understand the game of broadcasting really well. MarkDSoulja was on unilag FM before Radio Continental. A lot goes on behind the scene.
Not surprised to hear the 'runaway' guys now on Bond 92.9 FM. The lady (Fiona),the Titus guy who speaks Queen's English Omoba's pidgin now, Emmanuel Okon, Kelechi and the rest of them now run live commentaries in pidgin language on this station. That's a first too. English commentaries are popular but they have decided to go into an untapped area and they seem to have a lot of (imported) followers judging from the number of calls and tweets they get (something i.e. social media inputs the station itself does not have much). For the station, that is a plus because listenership has increased. Like I said, the market is indeed big, tap into the opportunities.

The potato thingy makes sense when you consider the event where he made this statement.
Looking at the misleading headline by Daily Post, do Nigerians eat too much ricehuh Yes, that's why it is a staple food but we have to ask ourselves this question - why do we import what we consume when we can produce and even export an unpolished and 'healthier' local ricehuh
Remember when Sanusi callled for more investment in rice production in Nigeria in 2013huh He advised that the N365 billion set aside for rice importation annually should be invested in massive rice production. He had previously stated that the country spent about $1bn (N155bn) on the importation of rice in 2010. Even when FG bans importation of rice, why is it sill being smuggled via the bordershuh Are we a thinking nation at allhuh Who is doing whohuh
Emefiele was also quoted making the following remarks:

“When we stop importing toothpicks, stop eating imported rice cultivated with chemical, stop eating chicken imported and preserved with formaldehyde, then our economy will begin to grow.”

On a lighter note again, it was on Silverbird News yesterday that I saw the feature of 'economic recession in Jos' and one of the ladies interviewed mentioned that "even the sweet potato, na Buhari yam we dey call am now". grin

PoliticsRe: I Did Not Say Rice Is Expensive Because Nigerians Eat Too Much Rice - Ogbeh by Mustay(m):
Swift response from the Ministry - I was going to highlight this in the original story itself. Even from the story on Daily Post that posted this headline, you could easily highlight the needless sensationalism the online paper sought to achieve - http://dailypost.ng/2016/09/14/nigerians-eat-much-rice-thats-expensive-audu-ogbe/

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, on Wednesday in Abuja said Nigerian businessmen demanded 2.5 billion dollars (about N492 billion) a week for importation of goods and services into the country.

Ogbeh made this known in a meeting with officials of VICAMPRO, an indigenous Agro Company investing in production of Irish Potato on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said that the ministry was willing to support local investors with capacity to produce goods and save the country’s foreign exchange.

He said that the consumption of rice in the country was rising and that a lot of people were not aware that the rice had some degree of arsenic.

The minister said that consuming rice in large quantity on a regular basis was a bit of health risk, adding that substituting it with potato would be welcomed development.

“The volume of importation of virtually everything into this country is too much.

“The demand for dollars in this country as at today is 2.5 billion a week; this is the quantum of dollars Nigerians are asking for to import things.

“Since 1986, we began this habit of importing everything and doing virtually nothing at home to sustain ourselves; now, we do not have the dollars and people are very hungry.

“This day was coming anyway, no matter who was in power; we have the most ridiculous method of devaluing our currency; every week, we auction the dollar and naira goes up.

“We sat and were hoping that by devaluation, we are going to arrive at Eldorado; if we continue like this, it will be a thousand naira to a dollar,’’ he said.

While commending the investor, Ogbeh said that any private sector effort that would develop local production of goods would be fully supported by the ministry.

“We should aggressively take the West African market; there is no reason why we should allow Irish potato from Ireland and France and Belgium into West Africa; it is the same story with onions.

Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of VICAMPRO, Mr Michael Agbogo, said that potato could bring value worth over one trillion naira annually if properly harnessed.

He said that potato was the fourth most important crop in the world and that a barrel of oil was an equivalent of 14 kilogrammes of potatoes.

According to Agbogo, while current price of crude oil will fetch the country about N16,000 per barrel, the equivalent in potato will fetch the country N39,000.

He said that in terms of value, potato had three times the value of crude oil, adding that it was a huge industry the country could get into.

Agbogo said that Egypt and Algeria were the leading potato producing countries in Africa, with Egypt producing four million tonnes annually from about 100,000 hectares of land.

He said that Nigeria, which had close to 500,000 hectares, was struggling to produce one million tonnes of potato per annum.
The potato thingy makes sense when you consider the event where he made this statement.

PoliticsRe: The True Meaning Of Recession - Reuben Abati ( A Must Read) by Mustay(m):
I actually thought he was going to define recession, at least, 'technically' particularly when he stated that "I think we need to break down the subject further from a layman’s perspective". Instead, he used this to give 'experiences'. Anyway, that's the approach he decided to take.

What I see here are examples of waste by Nigerians and it's one reason even LASG considered taxing those who celebrated one event or the other (even recession) on weekends. Whether there's 'recession' or not, people will commit suicide, domestic shenanigans will occur and prostitutes will always adopt different approaches for those who patronise them. For beer, the consumers act on their moods - food and sex are constant variables even during war and famine.

These days were coming considering the waste in the past. What has not come is consistency in policy directions and communication to Nigerians. As the pilot, this government needs to inform its crew of where they are headed with occasional reminders of where they're coming from. Nigerians are typically tolerant and hopeful people, should you insult these features (through blame game, denying the obvious and not being sympathetic to their plights in action and speech), you're headed South.

Nigerians need to tighten their belts (that phrase ba?) and curb wastage and their selfish attitudes. No one can dictate how people should spend their monies but we can dictate how they shouldn't divert people's funds for personal use. As much as they are being taxed, the recipients of our taxes also have to be held accountable and PERFORM!

CHANGE BEGINS WITH ALL OF US.

Where or how did the online user also get the NPF's excuse? Did he go back the next day to confirm or after dodging the bullets, he went to address them? #JustCurious
