sharp man: The painful truth is that 90% of muslims are secretly happy about the killings over movie and that says a lot about the religion called Islam.
Stop posting fantasies and figments of your imagination as facts. People just go about making statements without any tests, hypotheses or evidences and cause more confusion.
Foreign AffairsRe: The Innocence Of Muslims: The Film That Sparked Riots In Libya by Mustay(m): 3:52pm On Sep 13, 2012
oradee: International Christian Organisations have and wld condemn the movie cos no one permits slander and they want the public to know they have no hand in the movies production whatsoever.
Now has any international Muslim organisation (including those on NL) condemned the killing or are they still justifying it?

For the first 13 years of his mission, the Prophet Muhammad and his followers were exposed to demeaning abuse, mockery and torture on a daily basis in Mecca. Not only did he resist violence, he did not even return an insult with another insult. At one point in Mecca, his enemies twisted his name to call him 'Mudhammam' (The Loathsome) instead of 'Muhammad' which deeply offended his followers. But the Prophet calmly comforted them by stating, "Doesn't it astonish you how God protects me from the Quraish's abusing and cursing? They abuse Mudhammam and curse Mudhammam while I am Muhammad."

On Tuesday, September 11, extremists in Libya and Egypt reacted to an obscure film which attempts to insult the Prophet Muhammad with profane inaccuracies. But their reaction, which included vandalism and the murder of innocent civilians, completely contradicts the character and message of our beloved Prophet. In a famous Islamic tradition, he stated: "It is not allowed to cause harm to others nor to return harm for harm."

The Quran teaches us that we cannot blame or punish a person for the crime of another and instructs believers to "disagree with them in the most courteous way."

CelebrateMercy Founder Tarek El-Messidi stated, "When lies are spread about our Prophet, we simply respond with the truth. And the most effective response is to embody his merciful character on a daily basis. Violence and vandalism carried out in his name are more offensive than the content of any film.

The Quran tells us that the Prophet is praised by God and His Angels; even a million films cannot threaten his status as the Best of all Creation nor his love in our hearts."

In response to the crimes carried out in the Prophet's name, CelebrateMercy will soon launch a letter- writing campaign to the families of the innocents killed in Libya. We will also release more videos this week about the Prophet's life and character to remind us and others why we love our Prophet, peace be upon him. - Celebrate Mercy

Everyone 'll be judged according to their intentions anyway.

EducationRe: List Of Public Libraries In Nigeria by Mustay(op): 12:56pm On Sep 12, 2012
naptu2: However, since the capital of Lagos was moved to Ikeja and the Capital of Nigeria moved to Abuja, things have changed. The former National Library headquarters 4, Wesley Street, Lagos Island has been given to the Centre for Black African Arts and Culture (CBAAC), while the Lagos Central Library at Odunlami/Broad Street is now the E-Learning Centre (E-library).

I heard that the Church of Assumption in Ikoyi has a free library service, but I haven't gone to check it out myself.
Thanks for the list )
I'll try later to compile and classify the lists according to the 6 zones in Nigeria.

Errmm, what d'you know about the e-library? Is't for the public? Someone once told me to try it out and mentioned of another library at CMS (near the bookshop). Dunno if there's anything like that.

It's kinda disappointing that when one assumes that the class of people living on the Island is 'above-average' literacy level, public libraries should be jostling for spaces in Eti-Osa LG, Ajah etc. I remember Punch newspaper once published a report on the state of libraries - that's an issue for another day.

If we're gonna see our students passing WAEC/GCE, we have to make some basic facilities easily assessible to them in every nook and cranny before blaming Mr FB and Mrs Twitter. Why would a primary school student or high school student or a kid who's got no shoes have to pay to use libraries - hence the emphasis on PUBLIC libraries. At least if dem dey open and close, na somewhere to start from.

deenee: Either way, you can still arrange privately to have an internship in unpaid capacity with a handful of the firms.
True. It has to be pointed out that the financial reward should not be the incentive but the experience you'd garner and how it would build your career. Have a default mindset that you're gonna work for free and if you are lucky to be paid, no qualms, clean your crystal ball.

Essentially, you have to plan ahead (forecast). IMO from high school, guidance and counselling services are usually not either paid attention to, made use of or effective in their dispensation.

World Literacy Day just passed by and the issue of the availability and use of public libraries came to the fore again. I want this thread to serve as a database of public libraries in the country. A quick search online doesn't give you a good answer which is quite disappointing.

Consequently, for contributors who want to add the ones they know (that have/has not been previously mentioned) should please try to follow the number order and provide an address or at least, the area where this library is so that visitors to any of these places in Nigeria can seek guidance.

could you please shed more light on the 'internship'.[/quote]It's what we call Industrial Attachment/Industrial Training/I.T.

It's done in the after the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th year depending on the course and the university but relating it to this topic, it's the one where your school 'permits' you to go for a training (internship) for a certain period.

A lot of us don't go for it and we joke with our unseriousness saying we did our IT at "Iya Aluwe's ponmo shop" and the likes. That period is valuable. Based on your school's academic calendar, you can keep working with the coy during your hols - the unpredictability of the public universities (all manner of strike) makes this difficult and easy. Difficult in the sense that tomorrow, ASUU can call off the strike and you have to go back to school immediately. Easy in the sense that ASUU strike could last several months thereby increasing your experience.

missdharmie: Are the Internship offers really available? undecided
TBH, we know this to be in the -ve but some still offer. It's all about awareness as an undergraduate and a mindset. Just the way a job seeker looks for a job, an undergraduate can get this offer if s/he searches for it. cool

seunshow00: Is there any exemption for members of ICAN/ACCA?
No, even if you're a professor.

seunshow00: Where are the lecture centers in lagos?
How much is the lecture fee per paper or per level
There are a few lecture centres located in Lagos but most I know of are located on the Island. Google them up or search on Facebook for some of 'em and ask for their charges.

seunshow00: How often is the curriculum reviewed?
Annually

seunshow00: What other materials can u recommend for me to study with?
There are 3rd party materials like BPP, Elan Guide, Kaplan Schweser etc but they remain what they are, they are not official.

Some people have completed the exams with -
1. Only CFAI official curriculum texts.
2. Only 3rd party materials.
3. Combination of 1 and 2 above.

Some use these materials along with video lectures.

To each his/her own!

seunshow00: How many level do we have in all?
Three

seunshow00: How flexible is the exam arrangment?
Can one write a paper instead of the total no of papers in a level?
Is there any thing like credit system for result where one is credite with papers passed and allowed to write only the outstanding paper?
How many diet or slot of exam do you have in a year?
There are three levels as I wrote earlier. Each levels have fixed number of 'papers' in it and aside the Level I which can be taken additionally in December, exams are written every June (the 1st Saturday).

It's not like ICAN/ACCA - here, you write each level and pass it according to their standards. The papers have some weights in each level so they're all tested on the exam day for the particular level. If you write one paper and leave the rest, that's sure banker for failure. grin

Once you've registered and paid for the exam, you cannot withdraw your application except for 'excruciating' reasons. So think well 'cos your money will not be refunded.

I do forget to post this in here. Often times, a lot of peeps are willing to write this exam but are not able to do so usually due to financial incapacities.

Anyways, CFA does offer scholarships. I write to be corrected that we ain't got a good number of 'CFA Profs' in Nigerian universities for that would've made access much easier i.e. 5 candidates sponsored per professor.

The sponsorship for the 2013 exams just passed by some days ago. So for constant 'posters' here, it'd do well to bring this up again. The 2014 scholarship will be available as from February 2013. Hence, those who are still in school or are still 'planning ahead' can take advantage of this. It's not a difficult process per say but you'd have at least a sponsor who's not your relative and some little details of your annual income, family income, why you intend to write CFA and why you deserve such scholarship.

As an unsolicited financial adviser, this is a bad investment. Yes it's your money and bla bla bla but it'd be better for you to report this to the local police station - am sure you read the recent case of the late Cynthia.

The probability that the user would (even read this before his/her intention to sell the phone and still not sell the phone or) return the phone has gone with the last millenium (when sim cards were expensive) save for your phone was lost but found.

Also, try and learn something from this too, you may have known before but as experience is the best teacher - make use of regular backups. Wish you 'luck' in your search.

IslamRe: Muslims: What Did You Learn In Islam Recently? by Mustay(m): 5:15am On Sep 05, 2012
Well, this may not be 'learning' but inferences. Iqraa's sheikh was talking about 'Unity in the muslim ummah' and how these days, it's got to the extent of naming mosques after nationalities (one readily comes to my mind) or tribe etc which segregates the ummah. If Nigerians build a mosque in, say Cameroon, we should not name it 'Naija Moshalashi' or 'Hausa mosque' or the sorts because the community must be considered andhe further gave examples of how he'd been to a place in Amsterdam whereby he wanted to pray and he was asked "are you Turkish", "no" he replied and he was directed to the arab mosque. Subhanallah!

Later on, a scholar was interviewed from US and it was encouraged that we make the mosque area a multi-purpose one whereby Muslims can engage in different activities and look forward to going to the Masjid as there are entertaining, learning etc activities there. This he noted is important for our women and children. It should also be observed that this depends on the size of the land parcel and funds of the project.
IslamRe: Pakistani Islamic Cleric Arrested For Framing Christian Girl For Blasphemy by Mustay(m): 5:02am On Sep 05, 2012
I recently listened to a documentary on Pakistani's Blashpemy Laws and if we are familiar with Pakistani news, we can remember the murder of one of their governors by his security aide.

Ironically, when the investigation asked for official sources, it did reveal that Muslims were even the one mainly affected by this law against other religions in a ratio of about 8:2 of convicts.

However, what is obvious is that the people are seeking shortcuts these days some Pakistanis are not ready to learn, they keep on seeking injuctions from so-called 'scholars' and their media regulatory agency is a toothless bulldog in this case. When interviewed, one of them says he should not be held liable for any of his shows for some people could misinterprete his statements and he doesn't assume everyone has the same IQ. This is what has made Muslims the most affected for when a 'scholar' issues a 'fatwa', his neighbors can attack him if he's against it. Ignorance is bliss.

) .
In 2011 Salman Taseer was shot deadby his own bodyguard Mumtaz Qadri, who is now a national hero, revered by hard-line Muslims.
Taseer, who was Governor of the stateof Punjab, was a critic of Pakistan's blasphemy laws, which many Pakistanis feel are being abused by theMuslim majority to persecute Christians and other minorities.
Mobeen Azhar meets Salman Taseer's daughter Sanam, to hear about his death and how he knew that by speaking out against the laws, his ownlife would be in danger.
He travels to Rawalpindi, to Mumtaz Qadri's house, which is now a shrine to him and he will hear from one prominent critic of the laws, who feel the plight of minorities is linked to the future of the country as a whole.
Mobeen Azhar hears how the country'sfounder Mohammed Jinnah, envisageda Pakistan where minorities were part of the country - symbolised by the white stripe of the country's flag - but he will question whether that vision is being respected over 60 years since Pakistan was born.
