The Federal Executive Council Wednesday approved further maintenance work on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos where eight extra joints on the mid span axis of the bridge are to be replaced to remove stress on the superstructure at the cost of N1, 055,447,608.16. The Ministry of works was also directed to carry out integrity tests on all bridges across the country with a view to ascertaining their state and repair those that need to be repaired for them to serve the country optimally. Briefing newsmen after the Council meeting which was presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo, Minister of Information, Labaran Maku flanked by Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen and their Science and Technology counterpart, Professor Ita Okon Bassey Ewa said routine maintenance on roads and other infrastructure would ensure they serve the country better. They said the country must no longer wait till something goes wrong before they swing into action and listed Jebba, Lokoja, Benue and Niger bridges among those to come under strict routine maintenance. Henceforth, they said that budgetary provisions for the maintenance of such infrastructure would be made so that they would be in good conditions and not risk the life of Nigerians. Maku said that an investigation of the substructure of the bridge was carried out and it was discovered that there was stress in the super structure of the facility which is already stressed and had to embark on an urgent repair job to avoid further deterioration. “The result of the dynamic investigation on the third mainland bridge in Lagos revealed the urgent need to carry out additional repair works consisting of the replacement of 8 No extra joints at the mid span axes of the bridge. “An underwater inspection was undertaken by the Ministry and the resultant preliminary report revealed alarming deterioration and serious damages on a number of pile foundations of the Third Mainland Bridge. “After deliberations, Council approved the repairs of the Third Mainland Bridge, Phase II additional works involving the repairs of 8 No expansion joints to eliminate noticed super-structure sources of stresses on the already compromised foundation structures of the bridge in Lagos, in favour of Messrs Borini Prono Construction Co. Ltd in the sum of N1,055,447,608.16”, Maku said. Speaking further, Onolememen said that most of the bridges in the country were old and need maintenance to avoid collapse and assured that the days where government would not routinely check on the state of facilities were gone. He said the company which has been given the job for the repairs on the Third Mainland Bridge was one of the firms which participated in the building of the bridge which its importance to transportation cannot be overemphasised. Ewa also explained efforts by his ministry to locally produce solar panels from scratch to finish in the country, pointing out that their pilot factory at Karshi, Nassarawa State has already made remarkable progress in adapting the technology to the specific needs of every zone of the country. He said the addition of solar power in the country’s power mix will further ensure stability in power taking into consideration the intensity of the sun and the desire of the country to go into cleaner energy generation. “We believe that the creative utilisation of the solar energy is going to improve the general power and energy situation in the country,” he explained. The Council also received reports on the sterling performance of the two satellites the country launched into the orbit this year as their use were bringing positive results and can be deployed for demographic and town planning purposes . http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/fg-approves-n1bn-for-third-mainland-bridge-repairs/103506/ can someone tell me the amount is justifiable? another misplaced priority. |
Da Doctor:since your not smart enough to comprehend the question u say the frequency is more in yoruba and u've lived with the yorubas all your life, hw then do u know the frequency of how its like in other tribes o |
@ da doctor, u keep bleating frequency and rate? but let me put this to u; in research, before u can come to a conclusion, u must av taken samples randomly across board. but ur claim here only says u've been in lagos for over 30 yrs. so hw do u justify your conclusion |
joyceereal:does dis sound logical atall? its dis type of thinking that has kept this country going backward. instead of using your brains to think of a good way to get rid of them (necessity they say is the mother of inventions) ur here spilling trash about fasting and prayers. if your fore fathers had been fasting and praying instead of putting their brain to use, would you have such amazing things you see around you. lazy ass. fasting and prayer my foot ![]() |

Da Doctor:speaking of experience. i served in nasarawa state and was posted to small town/l.g called Doma. u wont believe my experience. they so much flirt about. the key is just for u to understand hausa. the most irritating part is due to that they sleep around without protection and u can almost contract HIV from the air sef. i do hang out with a serving doctor posted to the LG hospital during consultation and out of every 5 persons attended to, 2 r HIV +ve. you go out at night and u see married men and women doing all sort of rubbish at different corners, cant even take the business indoor, so dehumaning. ask people about the calabar women lifestyle too and u'll be surprised. thats y benue, nasarawa and cross river lead the park in the number of HIV infected people state rank |
coogar:thanks so much bro, you couldnt av said it any better. go to the north and u'll give the yoruba some respect. flirting is not a thing of a particular tribe, its cross across all board |

kholis:i think the increment was done that way to give them a good bargaining power. we all know students will always protest against any tuition increment so wot most govt do is to make an outrageous increment and after much protest, enters a dialogue and they come to a reasonable compromise, a good p.r stunt u know. we all know the sch needs the extra funds. i strongly support the tolling of the lekki express way. for crying out loud, the road is a world class infrastructure and we should be ready to give a little sacrifice for a better nigeria. |
so PDP no longer respect court rulings? ![]() |
