A human rights activist, Femi Falana (SAN), has asked the office of the Accountant General of the Federation to publish the monthly allocation to states and local governments.

Falana made this call in an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday.

He noted the government must be transparent to convince Nigerians what it is doing with the proceeds from the removal of oil subsidy.

The senior lawyer urged the media to always demand the monthly allocation to every tier of government.

He said, “We are demanding that on a monthly basis that the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation be publishing what goes to every tier of government.

“That was the culture in the past. At a stage we were told the government was going to be run in a transparent manner.

“Section 22 of the constitution states that the media should promote transparency and accountability in the government.

So the media is compelled to demand on a monthly basis what goes to every tier of government and to compare what was being earned before fuel subsidy removal and what is going to the federal government account after the subsidy removal.

“For almost a year, the NNPC did not remit any money to the federal account. But now we are told that they are no longer subsidizing fuel.

“They should tell us what they are making per month. The government said that it would be paying N35,000 wage award to workers every month; but now we are told only some months were paid.”

Detectives from Ondo State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old final-year student of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Olubodun Sanni, for killing a 20-year-old female student of the school, Ifeoluwa Adekunle.

Recall that Ifeoluwa, a 300-level student of the Department of Economics, was stabbed to death in her apartment located off-campus of the university.

Sanni, a student of the geology department, who lived in the same off-campus hostel with Ifeoluwa, stabbed her to death and stole her iPhone.

Final year Ondo varsity student arrested for killing female colleague over her iPhone

Parading the suspect at the police headquarters in Akure, on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Abayomi Oladipo, said modern technology was used to track the stolen phone to Sanni.

According to the CP, the suspect confessed to killing the victim because he was attracted to her iPhone.

“On February 2, 2024, a case of suspected murder was reported to the police that one Adekunle Ifeoluwa ‘F’ aged 20 years, a 300-level student of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, was found in a pool of blood at her off-campus hostel, was rushed to the university health centre, and later referred to a specialist hospital in Ikare Akoko, where she was confirmed dead,” the CP stated.

"In the course of the investigation, the police discovered that the deceased's phone was missing. The police, through the use of modern technology, traced the phone to one Olubodun Sanni ‘m’, aged 21 years, a final-year student of the same school who is also a neighbour to the deceased in the hostel.

"The recovered phone led to further questioning of the suspect, who gave details of what happened in his confessional statement, including how he entered the deceased's room, stabbed her in the chest with a knife, and stole her iPhone XR.

Oladipo said that the suspect would be charged in court at the end of the investigation.

It is unfortunate that Nigeria is a dyslexic country filled with unserious people. If not, how would you expect a man of his age going about the roadside to hawk the currency of his country.

Let's see it this way.... The old, mutilated, outdated and unfit currency that are withdrawn from circulation and are meant for destruction are being recycled into the economy through some unpatriotic citizens in the high offices in our banking sector of the economy.

Because of the privileges of their offices, they will claim the equivalent value of the old/mutilated currency in new notes and push them into the economy through the back door with the help of their agents who sells our currency at motor parks and in owanbe functions.

These acts are economic sabotage and a treasonable offence against the state. If Nigeria is a serious country, people like these should be made to face serious consequences for their unpatriotic acts.

Lastly, when last did you get a new Naira notes from our commercial banks?

Now you should have a little understanding of his crime.
