PoliticsRe: President Buhari Nominates Okonjo-iweala For World Trade Organization DG Post by NaMeAboki: 5:36am On Jun 05, 2020
kahal29:
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the nomination of Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, former coordinating minister for the economy, for the position of director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), TheCable can report.

In a document seen by TheCable on Thursday, Buhari withdrew the candidacy of Yonov Frederick Agah, Nigeria’s permanent representative to WTO, for the same position.

The election is scheduled to hold in Geneva, Switzerland in 2021 for a four-year term that would run from 2021 to 2025 after Roberto Azevedo, former director-general of the organisation stepped down a year to the end of his second term.

“The embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and permanent mission to the African Union (AU) and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) presents compliments to all embassies and permanent missions in Addis Ababa and has the honour to inform that the Federal Government of Nigeria has withdrawn the candidacy of Ambassador Yonov Frederick Agah for election to the position of director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO),” the letter seen by TheCable read.

“Nigeria is therefore pleased to request the support of esteemed AU member states as well as permanent missions and embassies in Addis Ababa in favour of the candidacy of Okonjo-Iweala.”

Agah is Nigeria’s permanent representative to the WTO and WTO’s deputy director-general.

Okonjo-Iweala currently chairs the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), a public-private global health partnership with the goal of increasing access to immunisation in poor countries.

She also sits on the board of Twitter and is a former managing director (operations) at the World Bank.

On March 7, President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa appointed her a member of the country’s economic advisory council.

A month later on April 10, Kristalina Georgieva, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), named Okonjo-Iweala a member of the fund’s external advisory group.

Okonjo-Iweala is one of the four special envoys appointed by the African Union (AU) on April 12 to mobilise international support for its efforts toward addressing the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2012, she contested to become World Bank president becoming the first female and first black candidate.

She was listed among one of the top 100 most powerful women in the world by Forbes four consecutive times from 2011 to 2014. She was also listed as one of the top 100 most influential people in the world by TIME magazine in 2014.

babaolofin:
So this is how unexposed and unenlightened you are. It is very useless and time wasting engaging you on matters that require cerebral power. Your individuals or kinsmen know how to allocate juicy oil wells in Niger Delta to themselves. Immediately they assume power the first thing in their mind is to auction Oil Prospecting License or Oil Mining License and who occupies National Security Adviser's office because of Security budget.

What stops them from auctioning the oil block in Chad basin? They have to coerce major oil company on JV partnership with NNPC to carry out exploration using the resources from Niger Delta. This generation or the future generation will suffer for this exploitation. The South East and the South South are fed up with you, the enlightened mind in yoruba land have seen your folly, for how long will your religious slaves in yorubaland remain in slavery?
You continue to show naivety basing all your arguments on the wild assumption that those individuals (northerners) have a freehand and choice of all the available oil blocs in the country; while in fact that is quite the contrary: as no oil bloc licence is issued to a single individual but a group of individuals (usually a mix from different geopolitical zones) because of the huge investment resources needed for such venture.

Secondly, majority of the much touted allocations are not even yielding, only a few of them are producing and therefore giving earnings to their owners (some of the lucky include Danjuma, maybe Indimi's, Alakija etc).

Furthermore, it is faulty logic to assume that the same non-transparent pattern of allocation would be repeated for the potential blocs in the north; especially as the current anti-corruption government is even revoking/not renewing some of the above issued licences.

I can recall how the wailers reacted when it was reported that someone had similarly escaped from one of the isolation centres in the north (Gombe or so); they insulted nearly everything and anything associated with the north: from the region to the major religion and tribe.
Watch as they have suddenly gone quiet about this escapee from their own backyard - hypocrites!
IslamRe: Missed Fasts From Ramadaan First Or The Six Days Of Shawwaal? by NaMeAboki: 4:49pm On May 29, 2020
From my understanding, one can fast with the intention of repaying the Ramadan fast which he missed and for each Ramadan fast he repays in the month of Shawal, it will simultaneously also count as an independent fast of Shawal; which means one receives double reward for repaying his Ramadan fast; while at the same time each one counting towards his Sitta Shawal.

But shouldn't we really ask ourselves... Why do we hardly see Westerners or Northerners being maltreated in other countries?
Why are they not accused of theft, fraud, e.t.c?

If we say it's witch-hunting, then how have other tribes escaped witch-hunting in other countries?
Very good question.
It seems only a section of this country attract to themselves so much notoriety and xenophobia - something must be wrong with them.

You fasted on 1st Shawwal on the day of Eid? Is that allowed?
My bad; did not fast on Eid day (am aware it is forbidden) but started the following day after Eid (i.e. on Monday) - basic miscalculation on my part.
Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

Salam alaykum warahmatullah

This year's Ramadhan ended last week Saturday, which basically means that the month of Sha'waal commenced on Sunday. The prophet (SAW) recommended fasting an additional voluntary six days in Sha'waal as its reward is equivalent to that of fasting for a whole year.
Alhamdulilah, I started mine on Monday and by sunset today In Sha Allah, it'll make five days of fasting. I have no intention of breaking any day(s) in between the six days.

Have you started yours or do you have the intention to observe it?
Are you observing it consecutively or breaking in between?

May Allah forgive us of our sins and guide us aright.

Jum'ah Mubarak to all Muslims and happy Friday to everyone.
Alhamdullilah, I started mine on Sunday and finishing today Insha Allah.

That means that any time Killer herdsmen and Boko haram murder people in Nigeria, we should all and go kill all Northerners in our area?
As if you haven't been doing that and secretly burying them in shallow graves or cannibalising them?

Agboriotejoye:
Lol. I know you in ur ignorance think it's govt's responsibility to prospect for oil. Ask yourself why folawiyo has been prospecting for oil in Lagos for the past 25 years while indimi, atiku, Sani Bello etc have fixed their eyes on the Niger delta while oil has been lying fallow in their backyard. Except..... They know it ain't nothing but groundnut oil
I guess in your tiny little mind; you assume those individuals have free unfettered access to explore as they wish - ever heard of oil blocs and how they are allocated?
PoliticsRe: FG Explores Options For Oil In North, Despite NOCs’ Budget Cut by NaMeAboki: 8:25pm On May 28, 2020
Agboriotejoye:
When is production set to start? If you're ignorant, I'm not. If the prospects were so high in the first place, don't you think IOCs would have cashed in on the pie instead of the more expensive offshore drilling. Why haven't indimi and co who are from that region acquired the areas BTW? Or you think this is the first time oil exploration is being carried out in the north? There's oil in the north in large quantities... And dats groundnut oil grin grin
Above reference pertaining to Indimi & Co suggests you are quite ignorant of what you are talking.

Really? How much hate do you think Northerners spread in 1966 when they slaughtered over 30,000 Igbos in cold blood?
They paid back in kind the cold blooded murder of our beloved northern leaders (including some of their wives) in the dead of the night of Jan 15 1966 following much taunting and goading of northerners by the Igbo kinsmen of their killers.

I hope you know the exploration is being done by our own NNPC and Chinese Oil coy. I hope you know both are capable of anything. They're not like shell, chevron or total.
Meaning what - that they will conspire together and hoodwink everybody to the effect that they found oil when in fact there was none?
So we should accept your layman's speculation over and above an official report? - keep trying.

One single person's alleged experience over probably one or two well heads (in relation to several others over the vast territories of exploration) against a collective report written and corroborated by a committee of several individuals - well done, good logic.

Shameless people. My uncle who worked as a drilling engineer said there are traces of some oil there and gas but not in commercial quantities like in Niger delta. But the northerners dont care and say they must keep searching
Your uncle was obviously telling you a big fat lie; because if you had properly read the article you would have come across where it mentioned over a BILLION barrels oil reserves found in the NE (and counting so far).
