EducationRe: University In Nigeria With The Most Recognized Alumni? by naturalwaves: 7:34pm On Oct 18, 2012
afam4eva: If you look at the Alumni of other universities, their professions are pretty balanced unlike that of ABU which tilts towards politics.
Did you skip the first set of names he wrote? Moreover, there is usually a slight tilt towards some certain field in most schools. There is no how there can be a balance. E.g When we talk about great human right Activists , Ife is the no 1 as a bulk of them finished from there. When you talk about the Media and Entertainment, Unilag is the King at least I know the guy that owns Channels finished from there, Kofi, Teju babyface, Jazzman, Gbenga Adeyinka, Tee A, Eldee, Freestyle, Sasha etc. Infact, the list is endless. When you talk about those in politics, you just have to give it to Abu.I tell you, he has done the best thing he should by listing some other prominent people from ABU that have risen to the pinnacle of their careers. Do you know who Prof Onyibo is? #just asking#
Makes me wonder....1 million downloads within 24hrs...
Where did you get your statistics from? And how does a large amount of download online translate to money for Tonto? If I paste a link for you to download a song now, how is Tonto gonna get paid for it? The only thing such downloads can do is to create awareness, promote her and make people want to rush to get her albulm when it is out. The only thing that can make all these possible is when the said song or songs is good not when it is terrible.
common guys think abt it....she is currently the talk of social media, radio station s,tv stations etc
U guys r hatred for her song is making her more popular and probably more richer
She is the talk of all socia media, Tvs,Radios etc as what? What are they saying about her? Of course, negative remarks everywhere. It is better not to be the talk of the town than to be the talk and be used as a symbol of failure and negative remarks. In his own time, Saddam Hussein was the talk allover the world. Was that a plus for him or a minus?
I no mind do colabo with her o....hate our music but I smile to the bank
A good name is better than riches tongue . When people hear the name Tonto Dikeh, 3 things come into their mind; #soft po.rn# Desperate fellow# wack Artiste#.

sunnshyn: Only a silly person wouldn't know Tonto Dike's doing all this for fame...
Ofcourse she knows she can hardly sing...she intentionally went to do this cos she knws she'll get such attention...I like her, in that, she does as she pleases without raising an eye brow...nothing beats being true to who you are..

Charles Rovia, or whatever your name is, I'm sure your preparing for Tonto's come-back, cos she'll so so burn you.
BTW, who's Zubby Enebeli? And where's Terry Tha Rapman today??

Mind your business sir!!
This is exactly what Charles Novia was talking about when he said those who surround Tonto are her worst enemies. Did U just say SHE KNEW SHE COULD NOT SING AND INTENTIONALLY SANG TRASH? Why would someone sing trash intentionally. She would have made a whole lot of effort to make the song a success but unfortunately, you cannot give what you do not have. This ur love for Tonto has blocked ur reasoning faculty.Re-read what you posted to yourself and you will see that, just as Tonto sang trash, you wrote trash. Birds of a feather!
EducationRe: University In Nigeria With The Most Recognized Alumni? by naturalwaves:
Jarus: I am a proud product of Ife, but I concede this is between ABU and UNN. The reason why this is so is because while almost everybody that mattered in the North went to ABU, almost everybody that matters in the east also went to UNN, but the West has UI, Ife and Unilag, three universities to share its own.

Between 60's to 80's, everyone from the East and North dreamt of UNN and ABU respectively, while Ife, Lag and UI shared that of the West.

This is not absolute, as I am aware that there are many Yorubas that schooled in ABU in particular and UNN too, and vice versa for other regions, but it explains teh situation to a very large extent.
You said my mind.Nice analysis. As you can see, 70% or more of the people on the OP's list are Ibos which clearly shows that UNN was the only major school in the East as at that time. It is only normal for all or almost all of the earlier educated Easterners to attend UNN.

The OP had the advantage of making an earlier on research. I'll suggest this thread is kept alive so others can make researches about their Alumni.I was so surprised to see the quality of names some people are pasting on Unilag Alumni. I tell you, I was amazed at what I saw when I saw a list of her grads few years back from one of my sister's books and her Alumni is far far better than those lists filled with Entertainers. When you talk about Ife, you talk about a place that's home to Intellectual gangas. Her products are really holding their own too WORLDWIDE. As for UI, I'm very sure U go fear list when U see theirs as well.

The point I'm trying to make in all is that, it is only a matter of research before we can compare Alumni. The initial post by the OP is quite intimidating cos he has made a research.

The post would have made a better sense if the OP had brought forward a name or two in each sphere of life and then ask if any school has a better Alumni in those spheres. That would have been a better way of hastening people's memory.

candieangel12: Well don't point fingers at me. Children in the USA start using technology at an early age. My 6yr old sister has a bb playbook n a laptop which she got as a gift from my parents for graduating from kindergarten and into the 1st grade. I see no harm in it n my parents don't see any harm in it either. Many of her classmates have cellphones but she is yet 2 get 1 yet. Lol the 1 thing that did shock me was she opened a Twitter account 4 herself, of course I made her delete it when I found out.
Of course, I know children in the US get used to Technology at a very tender age. The point is that, they still require follow ups with Parental monitoring, site control/ restrictions etc. I tell you, the Twitter example you gave is a small one. Don't be surprised if you see her looking through P.orn stuffs lateron.
PhonesRe: Blackberry Phone Becomes A Source Of Shame For Users by naturalwaves: 12:14pm On Oct 17, 2012
candieangel12: Yes BB is the main phone in Nigerian and it serves its purpose for the users there BUT the fact still remains that BB is not up to par with other phones. RIM is really falling behind, not only with the phones but also with the tablets. I purchased a BB playbook in Feb. It was a waste, I later dashed it to my 6 year old sister and then bought the iPAD 3. Love the iPAD 3 so much more to do with it than the useless playbook. RIM either needs to play harder or get lost.
Yes, BB might be below par when compared to other smart phones but it still remains the most SENSIBLE, ECONOMICAL and BEST choice to make in Nigeria.

You dashed a BB playbook to a 6 year old girl?undecided undecided and you think that's the best thing she needs at the moment? At 6, she needs something that will be of a better benefit to her. At that age, internet access on the system should even be done with restrictions talkless of handing such kind of a device to her. You appear to be spoiling her.

Exactly! Why should I buy a phone because of HD games when I have more than enough games on my laptop and the Playstation console? Won't it look strange playing such kind of games on a phone like a Toddler? That point is just so so lame.

Please can I get a list of international radio/music streaming apps that work with BIS please? Thanks
Don't mind them jare.Truth, they say, is bitter.I think the advert was sponsored and that was why your post was hidden for no just cause. I like Nairaland because, it is the highest online gathering of intellectuals in Nigeria. You cannot post poo here and expect everyone to follow your line of reasoning or thinking. The OP's post would have made more sense if it had come in an open debate but they made up very very childish stories filled with lies. Like someone suggested, the said lady that was ashamed of her BB needs to see a Psychiatrist ASAP.Moreover, is she not earning the same amount with her colleagues with other phones? If she doesn't like the BB, why not pick up whatever she likes instead of behaving like she has been restricted or as if she was in a cage.Is she making a formal report or what? The person that designed that cork and bull story and the OP must be good Dramatists.

For the Radio App, try NOBEX RADIO.The channels are so numerous, infact, the channels are by continents which means you should get more than 100 stations on it but there are only about 5-6 stations on it from Nigeria. It's been a while I used mine but just download the APP free of charge and see things for yourself.
PhonesRe: Blackberry Phone Becomes A Source Of Shame For Users by naturalwaves:
It is so funny to see how a lot of people debate with sentiments. The fact is that, an average Nigerian that's always on the move particularly Lagosians do not have time for fanciful APPs and HD games. It is so childish to say one will purchase a phone because it has HD and TECH games like soccer etc even at an advanced age. It is games like RIVER TEST, CHESS etc that looks cool when being played on a mobile device. I mean, if you need to play games, go get a proper game console.

Moreover, what on earth will an average Nigeria do with 200+ APPS? I tell you, most Nigerians are always on the move and have no time for those sh.its. Even some of those with the BB are yet to utilize it to it's full functions.

The question is, what is/ are the needs of an average Nigeria with respect to phones?
#A phone that can offer a good social networking platform as well as a good, fast, cheap or affordable, reliable internet access + entertainment and a phone that can do serious work e.g Business when the need arises#. I tell you, only the BB satisfies all the above.

Like I said earlier, until we have an effective wireless system in Nigeria where one can easily connect to, BLACKBERRY and not phones that drink credits like water will remain the NO 1 choice wrt smart phones. With a maximum of 3k and for as low as 1.5K, one can get an UNLIMITED INTERNET ACCESS for a full blown 30 days. Common, this is more than enough reasons to chose the BB over other types of smart phones. This is a very great + IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE THE INTERNET. As for me, I pay 1,500 and get a value worth more than 6k every month. I download a lot, from movies to music, to books. I do live streaming at incredulous speed. All my social platforms are well taken care of, Push mails etc. I mean, what more is the need of an average Nigerian? Moreover, the BB has a large user base and there is a default platform for all the users to gather and share resources, the BBM.Lolz.

Why should I pay btw 10K to 30k a month for a limited internet access? 10k on a BB can give one an unlimited internet access for 6 months plus. Ordinary 20K can give one an unlimited internet access for 1 year and a month. Is this not a matter of common sense? Well, like someone once said, COMMON SENSE IS NOT A COMMON COMMODITY IN ANY GIVEN COMMUNITY.

Some people argue that the BB has a very
terrible battery life when compared to Nokia, Samsung etc. Very funny! The feeds the BB receives every minute from the different social networking platforms and mail accounts is just like browsing non stop on a Nokia phone. Infact,it is much more than that cos one can only do one thing at a time while browsing but the BB does all. If U are in doubt, pick up a nokia E5, make a full charge and launch on the internet. Browse on it non stop for 7hrs and see if the battery will not turn red.

If you want to use the BB or if you are using one, you must know how it works particularly the feeds and the battery. Do not turn on any APP you are not using, turn off the network ( I am assuming that your main line isn't in it) anytime you are not using your BB e.g when you are busy, when you want to put it in your bag, when you want to sleep, when you want to drive etc.The good thing is that you get all your feeds IMMEDIATELY you switch on the network. That's the method I use and with a full charge, my own battery stays up to 9 hours at least. Just try it!

I understand that we are gadget crazy in Nigeria and lay our hands on every new thing.I understand that we like to show class and flaunt latest tech phones in other people's eyes. I understand that, the Android, Apple phones are not getting their deserved attention and usage in Nigeria hence, some users of such phones are pained and are always asking the same question of what is in this so called BB that's taking a shine off other supposed superior smart phones? Which we are tired of hearing. All the points above should answer some of their questions.

berem: exactly! That is the only problem I hate about BB.the battery drains like ice cream. Most people that use BB phones are always seen carrying chargers anywhere they go.before I had my BB,I use to laugh at my brother because he can go nutts if his BB phone is not charged.now I see am the one being laughed at! Lol!
The BB was designed to receive and refresh feeds almost everytime. You can set some of the Apps e.g facebook to refresh for new feeds every hour or as you wish.I assume your main line is not the one you are using for your BB, so, another very effective method is to turn off the network when you are not using your phone e.g when it is in your bag, when you are busy doing something else, when you want to sleep etc. You will definately get all your feeds once you switch on. This method works so well and it makes my own battery last so much. Infact,if I switch off network on my phone, I can play music for 12 hrs + without the battery dying off. Just try it!

PoliticsRe: Ondo PDP Endorses Mimiko, Expels Agagu, Others by naturalwaves: 3:10pm On Oct 16, 2012
This PDP is really a confused party. If I may ask, how many factions of the party are in Ondo state ? Which of the factions is Vanguard referring to? And how big is the faction? (Poor Journalism). That aside, the said faction wants to deflect to Labour Party and support Mimiko due to feelings of insecurity, fear of the unknown.....They have even condemned their own candidate, Olusola Oke even before the elections by saying ' He cannot fly in the coming election' . In other words, they were quick to sense intending failure and decided to quickly team with a candidate that has a better chance than their own candidate just for fringe benefits. Hmmmmm......This is what is called CHOP CHOP POLITICS. What a shame!

The state faction of the PDP is also calling on Mimiko to team up with PDP. Of course, that's impossible! PDP is a party full of deceits and back biters (The only language they understand is money). The words that came out from the mouths of their sweet coated candidate is nothing to be taken seriously. The guy was reeling his intents if elected into power as if he was describing how to prepare jollof rice. Lolz. No wonder Mimiko yabbed him by saying, he was taking the debate like a secondary school debate that Governance is more than sweet words and crammed lines.

The question is, what is the impact of this deflection on the upcoming election? It is a total loss of points to the PDP. It is a total Plus for Labour party and it could be a plus or a minus for the ACN depending on the quantity of people in the said faction.

In all, one thing is sure, it is going to be a big battle between LABOUR and ACN. I just can't wait for Saturday!

I.e open egotism, heaping abuse on others needlessly, peddling ignorance, slandering others and displaying intolerance for the opinions of your fellow man.

How is your fellow Nairalander a "beneficiary of stolen wealth" merely because his opinion differs to yours? Where did you get that nonsense from? Also, from all account, it seems you are slandering an educated man by calling him "semi-illiterate". I think spreading falsehood is a habit you have built overtime which has turned to a hobby for you. Moreover, what Proof do U av about Makinde's wealth being stolen? NONE.I understand ur problem, JEALOUSY!!! Fine, Hon.
