Jarus: Frankly, this defeatist mentality is why some graduates don't get job I.e going to battle(jobs recruitment process) with mindset that you can never win.

I have undergone recruitment process in Shell, Total, Oando and Seven Energy and worked for 2 of those and all were purely based on merit.

I have friends in Shell, Chevron, etc and got there purely on merit, because they were good enough to scale the recruitment hurdles, not because they knew anybody. In any case, these are guys that are from wretched of homes you can think of but very brilliant.

I got my current job through Guardian advert.

So I don't knwo which MNC you're talking about.

I am the least person to have a defeatist mentality. The examples you gave up there mostly applies to specific types of graduates in certain fields of study. Even at that, that doesn't still nullify my point. The fact that you got placed by merit doesn't mean the process is totally free and fair. Moreover, I was referring to Graduate Trainee jobs that basically cuts across all fields in that my post because that is where they normally take a high number of graduates most times. Try and conduct a lil research on it and you will be greatly amazed.

Honestly, how can you criticize a song you are yet to listen to properly? Immediately the link was pasted, criticisms started flowing with the one from Ikeangawo or whatever he calls himself being the most stewpid of all. The dude was even analysing the video and complaining about the technique used for smashing the glass. Some people need a cure ASAP.

Talking about Oliver Twist, the track was greatly criticized as well as trash by most people. The success of Oliver Twist was a great shocker to most people. No one is against criticism but the way most people do it, it is so obvious to see that theirs is borne out of undiluted hatred and prejudice. Go and check the other threads that were posted for othe songs and see the amount of comments...very few. When Dbanj won MOBO, these haters were nowhere to be found as that particular thread was avoided like a plague. Why didn't these critics drop a line of congratulations for him? The rest follows. D'banj is the biggest Nigerian Artiste at the moment and this has shown his popularity the more.

As for D'banj living up to par, may I remind you that, he has nothing to prove again. He has attained a great height in his career which is even envious for most Artistes. Nothing lasts forever, no one lasts forever so if he flops, it is a natural thing but I doubt if he is gonna flop anytime soon. I just hope some people won't be hospitalised if he wins a Grammy.

Jarus: This seems to suggest getting a job is automatic for a graduate, irrespective of how brilliant or good he is.

Not meaning to be insensitive, but I know only a very few good graduates that stay at home without job for more than one year after NYSC. And it took so long for some of them because the recruitment cycle(from test to interview to medical to placement) that takes up to 6 months or more.

I hate to be this frank, but truth is if you make a good grade in school, good enough to defend it,savvy enough to access right info, smart enough to package yourself well, you will hardly struggle to get job. At least you'll be called for tests and it's now left for you to scale the competition.

It is now common to hear lines like 'I have 2.1, I have MBA, I have this, I have tthat, but I am still without job". What have you made of the tests you were called for? Did you pass them? How is that anyone's fault.

When I receive the CVs of some of our so called graduates still struggling in the labour market, I shake my head. Poor English, bad presentation, irrelevants etc.

I used to think like you initially before I left school that all I need do is by blasting Aptitude tests, interviews and then get a dream job but now I know better. Things are not as smooth as you think.It takes more than that to get a placement in Nigeria at the moment. I have countless examples I can refer to to show you this.

Take for instance, THE NIGERIA FLOURMILLS GRADUATE TRAINEE RECRUITMENT that took place from early this year, February to be precise. After applying, we had to wait for like one month before writing the online personality assessment test. After that, another two to three months before shortlisted candidates wrote the challenging CBT( Computer based test). The test was conducted in 3 major cities, Abuja , PH , Lagos for days with 5 batches per day just for a spot that is less than 100. I even heard they're taking just 25. I am very sure that more than 50,000 people applied for the job.Those that scaled through that did a Functional Test and up till now, nothing has been heard. This is November. Let's assume that the total number of candidates to be taken is 50. The coy has a board of directors and top staff members. Do you think they won't be given slots? Out of the whole recruitment, I am very sure that less than 10 will actually get the job on merit. The point I am trying to make here is that, playing your own part is not enough to get you a job.

Moreover, Companies waste a lot of time in concluding their recruitment processes and that usually takes at least 6 months which could be frustrating for graduates. You keep on hoping, hoping and hoping from UAC to FLOURMILLS to NESTLE to Government job etc.

Government job is not even devoid of malpractices as well. In the last Lagos state Govt recruitment for teachers, thousands of graduates applied, shortlistment for test was done and some final candidates were selected out of which only about 355 will scale through after a supposed training. On getting to the training centre, I saw a lot of people there that were not even shortlisted for the first test. Some persons did not even write the test and they made the list. Now, what is the fate of those of us who know nobody in the final selection? Won't those ones with long legs be chosen over merit? Time will tell.Well, it is about 5 months after the process started and up till now nothing has been heard. We are all waiting for the final list which was supposed to be released latest by August 15 initially.
The list goes on and on and on.

Most of my friends that have gotten a placement either got one by connection or by being retained after service.I got an offer to be retained in far away North(Jigawa state) after service but I turned it down due to the fear of Boko Haram which was at it's peak at that time (we conducted the general elections and it was in our time that some Corp members were massacred....so don't blame me if I run)and the fact that I don't want to settle in the North.

It simply takes more than being brilliant and blasting tests, packaging oneself to get a placement. I don read GMAT, SHL etc tire and Aptitude tests poses no threat.

Aside the big Organisations, there are some average companies that pay shi.t as salary and you will work yourself to stupor in retaining your job. Some nonsense Insurance firms for example pay graduates like 35k or 40k per month. You would be made to walk all around the place to source for clients even under the hot sun. By the time you even subtract your expenses from the salary at the end of the month, you will see that you have been living from hand to mouth.

The most probable job for graduates now is to pick up a teaching job in a private secondary school or something. Just last week, I met an intellectually gifted friend of mine teaching in a secondary school. He is a graduate of Elect/elect Engineering and in fact a near genius. He takes about 3 subjects, Mathematics, Further maths and Basic Tech and collects a salary of 20k monthly. The highest most of those schools pay is 25k particularly where I reside.Now, what is that for a graduate? That is too small. Like they say, half a loaf is better than none. Such job is only manageable when you can easily stroll to the school from your house and based on the fact that, you won't need to ask for money to buy recharge cards or have a haircut from your parents again. I think I will soon join him in the school cheesy

at least for the meantime.

From what I have observed, most of the so called Multinational Companies post adverts in the media just for posting sake to fulfil all righteousness as about 70% of the positions are already fixed particularly the jobs for fresh graduates.

The small coys are exploiting graduates due to the situation as well. Good graduates, poor salaries. Some companies will even have just 2 to 10 positions available and then paste such vacancies on the internet.They will get the best of the best at the end of the process.If I need a store Keeper and I post the vacancy online, I know I will have more than 500 people to screen. That's terrible! Most of the Boutiques in Allen Avenue and Ikeja now have graduates as Attendants. What a shame! A friend of mine even wrote an Aptitude Test to be a boutique attendant. Na wa o!

For those that have understanding family members around, the situation could be managable till they get a placement but for those that have no one to rely on, it could be terrible and frustrating.

Even if one has got talents, brilliant, ideas, Entrepreneural thoughts etc, one still needs a footing to stand on before such ideas is put into use.

Finally, the musical Artiste, NICE said in one of his songs that BI A KO RENI FEYINTI, BI OLE LAN RI. What that means is that " He who has got no one to rely on tends to look like a lazy fellow". May God help us!

One? An incubent Governor that could not pull 50% of the votes in returning back to office. He was able to pull only 44% but unfortunately, we have a lot of daft political analysts. A sitting Governor could not convince half of the populase that he is good enough. SMH. If there was only one major opposition party, Mimiko would be out of power by now. A failure has nothing or no one to groom. When Fashola was re elected, it was a flawless victory so, do not bring Mimiko into the light here. Comparing Mimiko with Fashola in any form is a great insult.

Your fear is that your data and other info such as address, name , occupation, phone numbers etc could get into the wrong hands in case the database is hacked into or something. Well, that is understandable but not important here as that is not the only form of database available for sourcing basic information. We did a similar registration during elections, your sim card and info is registered with the operators, your university has same etc so why should this be different? Why didn't you refuse or castigate other forms of database before now. If your fear is generally about database in this modern time, then you are still living in the 17th century.Wake up!!!

Help me ask them o. Nigeria is lagging behind other developed Nations by at least 100 years. While some people (R.etardeen et al) are doing the talk, someone is taking actions and working towards excellence and development and some fo.ools are castigating him for wanting to have a proper database for the people he governs so as to do proper planning.I wonder what the crime is in doing that.

Hmmmm The easiest is Hausa language. I served in the North and I was able to learn the basics and conversate effectively within one week of studying the language.

Most people claiming Igbo language is tougher than Yoruba actually grew up and live in Lagos or lived most of their lives in Lagos so when their relations or parents speak Igbo to them, they find it a lil tough. Moreover, the type of Yoruba that is spoken in Lagos is not a core one. It is the adulterated version. I have never attempted knowing or learning Igbo so I cannot say much on it.

There are various factors that will determine what language is the hardest e.g How accommodating and friendly the host community is....Hausas are so accommodatting and friendly likewise the Yorubas. The Hausas will be so happy to teach you their language, if you make a mistake, they will correct you in a loving manner. Infact, once they know you are a stranger,they are always happy merely hearing you speak their language. Same cannot really be said about the Igbos. They are a lil bit hostile ( my sister served in Enugu). Another factor to consider is the time of exposure to the languages and many other things (I guess OP is not a scientist)

Until we get someone like Bisi Olatilo that is so versed in the three languages or someone that has lived in nearly equal periods in regions that speak the languages, we cannot really say which of the languages is the toughest. Although, Yoruba language is the most circulated, the most studied and the richest of the three languages, I can't say which is the toughest to learn.

KINGwax: well, mr once upon a time, there's no where in the bible dt claims it's ABOMINABLE for a woman to preach. But because women has used the opportunity to air their biased they, talk abt their marital status, used it to poke people who they had in mind, name names, cause all manner of rift, there was a law to ban them from preaching. It was concluded by the elders that anythin they have to say shld be voiced to her husband or elders who will properly put it in reference to her. It is still happenin now, lady preachers are too feminine in their preachin and u knw it.
But talkin abt that pastor, his wife's behavior is nothing to write home abt. So worst and wrong. I knw ds because i was very close to most of his people. Moyosore was once my girlie, his niece who lived with them and the stories of even tobi and bukky his children dt i knw were nonsense.
In 2010, i knw moyo was wrong, but with the help of his wife, he sent both his own sister(ogundele), though not of the same mother and moyo(seriously, a pervert), out in the winds, at night(making the second time) and stopping the girl's school he has been sponsoring!
Not dt i care, but apart from his words which i listen to in preaching(though riddled with politics now, making them useless to me), that man is never a role model and his wife's a joke!
I undstnd him when he said wives shldnt be pastors, yes, but is he saying wives of pastors can't be ministered to by the holy spirit?
He shld stop using his empty wife as a yardstick!
And as for u,'INURMIND', u were never a christian, mayb cos u were born into a christian family!

Do you mean to say that, Wande Coal will float his record label and not be an Artiste under it? NOPE. I am very sure it is only a matter of time before he leaves Mavin and stick with his own label. There is more to the story...I think Don Jazzy and Wande have discussed and the latter was told or realised that there is a very high possibility of being in the lower Prefential cadre in the scheme of things. Remember that, Mavin Records just signed 2 new Artistes and they should receive a bulk of the attention from Don Jazzy at the moment. Tiwa is there, Dprince also and Dr Sid. I think Wande is a fast reasoner. He might just pay Don Jazzy for productions in his own label. Owning a Record label takes more than just recording songs. I just hope Wande can successfully handle one.
