So it is a two way situation... Work first, save ... And start an Enterprise with your savings (If one can't get work to earn and save, one would feel stranded like the o.p...)

I have a friend with 2.1 in computer science, Masters degree... Knows virtually everything about computers... Lost his job last yr ... Till now has not been able to get another job.

Another friend works with those optic fibre laying companies.... Since January, no contract, no work.

You'll be thinking with all the skills , technical know how & connections, jobs should be pursuing you... But in most cases, it's exactly the opposite.

Even me, if you see my CV, you'll shake. 5 years now, no stable work. I get miffed when I see slow cashier's or dumb customer care officers in banks cos I know I can do the job better.

I feel your pain bro. The first step is merely to seek specific knowledge. There are more things attached, one cannot just stop at that, one must also be able to think outside the box. I have friends who are excellent programmers and companies use them to make millions and pay them peanuts. Most of them can write whatever you want them to code but they lack that ingenuity to think of an idea themselves and create it. Seeking specific knowledge as I stated goes beyond just knowing a scope. But, like you rightly said, everything in Nigeria seems to defy simple logic. It is well!

I follow the Spanish League and I can't understand the comparison. Messi is a class above Ronaldo in terms of all round play. I can say that he's by far the best passer of the ball I've ever seen. He offers more to the game and I'd pay to watch him play over and over again.

I have failed aptitute tests before but never an interview. Well, for interviews, I think the key is just to be yourself. Answer questions normally and objectively, do not get afraid of what the next question will look like nor get tensed. Just listen carefully and answer as smartly as you can. No ehm.....ehm...ehm....if you do not know the answer to a question, state it and do not beat about the bush. If you need clarifications, ask! What has worked for me most is the way I look at interviewers/ interviewer into the eyes. A lady interviewer once asked me to please stop looking at her because I made her feel shy rather than make me feel shy. While looking straight into her eyeballs and paying attention as she asked her questions, she could not gather her thoughts together anymore and had to restart the questions . I got the job! Show confidence , never look down, smile if something amuses you and laugh if a question is funny. Just be yourself. After all, they are not going to flog you. Above all, value yourself, never show desperation, go with the mentality that the company needs you more than you need them and it is theirs to lose if they do not hire you and remember to take a long, slow, deep breathe before you go face the panel.

I grew up in a town where there were four government primary schools. Note that there was nothing like private schools there in those days. I was a popular pupil then, because I was winning inter-school competitions for my school. I was a class captain throughout, and senior prefect.

I repeated this feat in my secondary school, and became almost a household name in a town of over 50 thousands dwellers. My type should have worked harder to earn good grades in the university, and probably get retained. But I was hustling to fund the education, and consequently shared my time between earning money and lectures. So, handouts and photocopies were my learning aids. I graduated with second class lower.

My fame soared when, during my university days, my school principal invited me to teach finalists Mathematics due to dearth of teachers.

Fast forward to 2017, no job is forthcoming. A brother of mine from a different mother now owns a car and an auto-mechanic shop. He was known as a very poor student because people wondered at such discrepancy in IQ of related brothers.

To keep body and soul together, I'm doing a job that requires me rendering a service from door to door everyday. I make at least 25k in this job monthly compared to 13k these proprietors are offering me--their argument is that B.Tech degree is not suitable for teaching. It's a common knowledge that only the uneducated and street urchins do this kind of job I do now.

Now I rendered the service to a couple who happened to know me back in the days. I couldn't recognize them at first. The wife was a classmate of mine with four children while the husband was a senior student in our high school then. The husband recalled how the then English teacher used me to ridicule the SS3 students to which he belonged. They couldn't pronounce 'colonel' correctly. So, he shopped for me in JS1 and I got it right. Living in a city now, I didn't think of it that I could easily run into my contemporaries.

I can relate perfectly well to your story. A university environment does not provide a level playing field for students as everyone have different things bothering them and different sources and types of funding. Lack of fund is one thing that can mar one's performance in the university. Students of this age are even so lucky as they can now use Internet to their full disposal. Having said that , I do not think you need to think so much about grades and all. The only thing a 2.1 or 1st does for you is that it gives you the chance to write more Job tests particularly if you are still less than 26. One thing I will advise is that whatever you know now, make sure you can hold your own anywhere such that if given the slightest opportunity, you will deliver. Moreover, make good friends and network more and keep in touch with people. This is my 3rd job. 2 out of the places I have worked was gotten cos I stay in touch with a couple of friends and whenever anything pops up, they will notify me. My first bank job was not even announced on the pages of newspapers. My second job was gotten by myself. My third was as a result of information from an old friend( unannounced too). At least, better to slug it out with 20 guys for 1 slot than hundreds of thousands. Cheer up! Be happy with your friends, get their contacts, stay in touch , call them from time to time to ask if anything has popped up. Move with people of similar goals and like minds so you get to apply and do other things together. Create a LinkedIn profile and follow people. You should be able to squeeze yourself somewhere tangible. Even here on Nairaland, do not take people for granted cos you never can tell. You can send a PM if you do not mind so we can talk better.

It was not an issue about the form or anything. They were outclassed. I said it before the match that the Juve team cannot handle Madrid because of the way Madrid play. God forbid I end up with such a man, I and my rest siblings contribute to take care and send the last child of the family to school who's only just 15, meanwhile he still works, I pray my enemy doesn't end up with such man, I grew up not understanding a mother's love, and he didn't help for the fatherly love to patch that up either.

Look at Barcelona's squad of 2009-2013? Replace Messi with any world class player from Neymar to Hazard to Dybala and they'd win the exact same number of trophies and Ballon D'ors that Messi won. If that same world class player played for Barcelona from 13 years of age, it'd be just as easy for the player.

In fact, this is the first time you'd be hearing this, but Barcelona didn't need Messi in that time period to win trophies. The proof is in the fact that between 2008 and 2013, the Spanish National Team was without doubt the best team in the world and won every tournament they participated in. Messi was not in that team, but the core of the team was Barcelona.

On the flip side, look at Ronaldo. When he was younger he was great at showboating but wasn't as clinical as he is now. Ronaldo started winning Ballon D'ors when he started achieving and he played in teams (sporting lisbon, manchester united, and real madrid) that were about critical, ruthless finishing than beautiful possession football and he adapted his game appropriately. Messi on the other hand played in a team that is about entertaining, possession football and that became his identity.

Ronaldo does not have to dribble 5 players to score a goal, because that is unnecessary in Madrid's team. In fact from Man U, Sir Alex had already weaned him of less flair and made him concentrate more on his clinical ability. Messi does not even have to dribble 5 players to score a goal, because the entire Barcelona team can pass a ball into the net. Spain won games and tournaments without a player running past multiple players to score or lay a pass.

But when you talk about Ronaldo's clinical ability, there is no word to describe it. The timing of his runs, positioning, goal scoring technique is all down to intelligence and being a smarter player overall. He knows he doesn't have to showboat, he has passed that stage. All his showboating won him 1 Ballon D'or and 1 champions league. His clinical ability and goal scoring got him 3 Ballon D'or's, 3 champions league, 1 Euro cup, and 5 consecutive UEFA golden boots. If you are Ronaldo, what would you do then, more showboating, or just honing your clinical ability and becoming the best finisher in the history of the sport?

There's Isco, Modric, Kroos, Casemiro to do all the passing, all he has to do is be part of the ruthless attack and finish where necessary or make an assist. Even when Barcelona was at their top form, he was outscoring Messi consistently scoring 50 goals per year since 2010, getting Real Madrid to the Semi Finals of the UEFA Champions league, and trailing Barcelona in the league. This was in a time of inconsistency in the Bernabeu (Perez sold Ozil and Di Maria in their prime) and this was without the Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets midfield (the best midfield post-2000) that Messi had.

Just look at the difference. Messi is out there running past Alavez players in a Copa Del Rey final, while Ronaldo is making himself available to make clinical finishes against the best defense of the season. Allegri said that even if they gave Barcelona an extra hour, they still wouldn't have found the back of the net. Ronaldo found it in 20 minutes. Found a second 40 minutes later. Look at his second goal yesterday. Modric did not even look before crossing the ball into the area, but Ronaldo anticipated the run and positioned himself to rattle the mighty BBC defense and slot past the goalkeeper legend, something the entire MSN couldn't do in 120 minutes.

Give me that versus Messi's run and I'll choose Ronaldo's clinical ability everyday.

Fast forward 5 years and Ronaldo has won 3 of the last 4 champion's leagues, and is set to win 4 of the last 5 Ballon D'Ors, and is the top UEFA goal scorer for each of the last 5 years. This is at a time of his career when he should be declining.

The difference between Messi and Ronaldo is evident in this year's UEFA goal tally. Messi had 11 versus Ronaldo's 2 before the knockout stages. Yet Ronaldo outscored Messi. Give me that versus running past players, and I'd choose the former everyday. That's what makes Ronaldo the better player. He doesn't have a peak. He keeps outdoing himself because he doesn't have a competition.

Without Suarez and Xavi, Messi wouldn't have had the treble in '15. And since then it has been downhill for him and his team. And the future is even more bleak for him going forward as Iniesta withers off. I wouldn't write him off, but as long as Ronaldo keeps breaking records and redefining what it means to be the greatest player to have ever played the game, the accolades would keep coming his way.

Messi plays amazing football, but in modern football love goes to the top achievers and goal scorers. After all, goals earn points. Most of the love Messi gets right now is because of what he achieved in 2009-2013. All of the love Ronaldo gets right now is because of what he keeps achieving since 2007.

Notice how I did not even talk about international duty? Or about Ronaldo adapting and achieving phenomenal results in two different leagues?

So, as I said, you are an LM10 fan. Every CR7 fan knows why CR7 is better than Messi. That's the passage of rites to becoming a CR7 fan.

Nice schooling. People just generally dislike Ronaldo for no reason. Most people that wanted Juve to win want that all because of Ronaldo but the more the hate, the more his shine.
