THIS IS THE ONLY BLACK WOMAN-OWNED HOTEL IN MARRAKECH, MOROCCO
by Kandia JohnsonMarch 13, 2018

"Meryanne Loum-Martin is a Parisian lawyer turned entrepreneur and founder of Jnane Tamsna, a boutique hotel located in Marrakech, Morocco. Beyond the fact that she has the only black woman-owned hotel in the area, she and her husband purchased land in 2000 and in less than one year, they built the hotel from the ground up. “At that time, I was a black woman in a country with a low percentage of black people,” says Loum-Martin. “I didn’t speak the language and the field of construction was very much a world of men who are known to ignore women. And you know what? We designed everything ourselves. My husband was responsible for the gardens and I was responsible for the architecture, interiors, and floor plans. Eighteen years later, her confidence, courage, and fierce determination have paid off—from five-star reviews and features in coffee table books and magazines like Elle, Vogue, and Town & Country, to venue host of stylish events such as “The IMARA Retreats: the Colored Girl” (a black female empowerment retreat that hosted powerhouses like Bozoma Saint John). Loum-Martin, who is half West Indian and half Senegalese, has no plans of slowing down

We asked Loum-Martin to share her insights and tips on providing exceptional customer service experience. . ."

BusinessRe: Share Your Annoying Market Experience by Ndipe(m): 8:09am On Aug 07, 2020
Na wao, what an experience. At least you recovered all the goods.

sonnie10:
I bought some items at Lagos Island and the store owner assured me that the Alabaeru girl standing near his store was a regular helper and I that could trust her with my goods. So I gave her the items to carry to my driver at the park. She called others to help since I bought a lot of things. To my surprise, when I got to my car, there was nothing. I immediately went back to the shop and informed the owner who introduced me to this alabaeru. He denied knowing them and said I gave them the goods at my own risk.
I search the whole market but did not find them. Fast forward to 2 months later, I went to mile2 owode mechanic village to fix my car and saw the alabaeru girl there. I held her and called police.
She was arrested and she confessed of diverting the goods. She later took us to the shops in Oshodi and Mushin where she had sold the items.
I recovered everything.

Get her a mansion.

Melodriod:
This is my first reasonable post on nairaland ... I don't really know what the comments would be like but man gotta do what he gotta do

So here's the story, I'm a single guy and I've been putting an eye out there looking for someone to love and call my own, so i met this really beautiful nice young lady a month ago and its was more like love at first sight kinda of thing...but i just had to maintain so i don't appear being desperate and all... But truth is am madly in love with this girl, we've been talking ever since then and so far we are becoming more closer as each day passes.

I still haven't asked her out to be my girlfriend but I'm really hopeful that she will say yes to me considering how close we have become lately, we talk about everything and anything.

So to the main gist, currently her smartphone is bad so we can't do things like chatting, whatsapp calls, video calls and the likes... And i feel like getting her a smartphone would greatly be helpful to her as well as get us to communicate more often, so I'm thinking....Is it wise to get her a phone at such an early stage into our relationship (friendship) considering the fact that i haven't asked her and she hasn't said yes to me....

I just feel like she really needs a smartphone and I'm thinking if i should get her one... I've not really made up my mind yet, might sound crazy but I'll really like to get opinions on this..

To save cost, and she can use the proceed from that savings to buy you a new pair of shoe, a nice shirt, pay your school fees . . . Instead of grumbling, thank God for blessing you with a wise mother.

My most annoying market outing is when I go to the market with my mom. I don't understand how u price the samething from like four different shops and u may end up not buying from any of them. Women can use like six hour in the market and that is a waste of time to me

Jesus Christ died and rose again. His appearance was seen by lots of people. He did not appear when He died but when He resurrected.

ayogabriel:
Well this is africa, stuffs like this happen they say even in movies we see. my dad told me of one that happen to him, his close friend who died sometime ago. After months of his death, a mutual friend went to cotonu to buy furnitures, on getting there he saw the same dead guy, in a workshop working alongside some other people, he was the boss of the place same as when he was a alive.. The man came back home, called my dad, and they both went to cotonou, when he saw it with his own eyes, from distance studying, and was convinced he was the one, he came back to nigeria, and ask the wife and the son to follow him, and they all went to the place, on getting there, and the dead man seeing all of them, smile at them, and welcome them into the workshop, and he entered with them and he just called his son, and he parted the son on his head, and said' you have grown' all of them couldn't talk, he said his mouth was heavy , legs stiff, and the man stood up went outside the door, and was never seen again since then. After 3min my dad said he stood up and went outside and made enquiry and they said he said he wanted to buy something, and that was the end of it all never seen again. So I think it might actually be true, that's if the old man, didn't cook It up for me, because I asked him the same question when the story popped up. Also in our estate a man that carries touch at night anytime his walkn at night, slumped and died, my dad was sitting in the sitting room, and he was like he saw a shadow of sum1 lookn like the man with touch, and he called out to draw his attention, he said he stood up and went after the man, by d time he got there, nothing, the next morning, he heard the man has dead. So .... The mith may be true. And even in the bible if am right when jesus was dead he appeared to some people, am not a bible scholar so don't blame me if am wrong

Good observation. People say the paternal side of the family usually leech off the man, but remember, that prior to this, they were the ones, (in some cases) who educated the man until he becomes established financially.

CultureRe: Another Meaning Of The Word ADE in Yoruba Names by Ndipe(m):
Thanks for the explanation which fits in with what my friend told me. It is way different from my tribe being that names, be it first or last, cant exactly tell if one is 'royalty' or not.

Sammy07:
Ade is of two types. (surnames and other names)

Ade - crown - royalties use it most (as surnames)

Ade - We've arrived, we've come, we're here (anyone can bear it) (as other names)

If you see anyone having "ade" as surname, be 99% sure that he's a royalty, the other 1% is if he changed his surname to "ade"

But, if you see anyone bearing Ade as middle name, other names, 100% sure that he's either a royalty or not.

That's the logic.
E.g you have two Friends A & B
A bears --- Adetunji Josephine Shola
B bears --- Odediran Adebola Michael

It means A is 99% royalty
B is 90% not royalty.

But there are some royals that doesn't use Ade as surnames.

That's the logic

All these taxation is annoying, cant someone just live in peace? Even in America that is notorious for its taxes, tenants don't pay tenement rates. What next, road taxes?
CultureRe: Another Meaning Of The Word ADE in Yoruba Names by Ndipe(m):
So a "non-royal" can't name their child, Ade?" When my friend, who is Yoruba, told me this, I found it hard to believe it. I am Ibibio and everybody is entitled to give their child any name of their own choice.

Sammy07:
Hmmm, not like a taboo.
But in Yoruba land, you'll have your family house, family name etc.

For example, you can't just change your surname to ogunshola, first thing they'll ask you is -- are you a descendant of Ogun worshipper?

So it's common for royals to use Ade.
I mean, very common.
CultureRe: Another Meaning Of The Word ADE in Yoruba Names by Ndipe(m): 8:26pm On Jul 29, 2020
So is it a taboo then for 'non-royals' to bear Ade in Yoruba culture?

dayton8701:
"Ade" is widely use among the royal family, but it can also be used as a verb A- de( arrival).

@dolliepie, even way back in Naija, my aunt used to tell us that some residents of MD died of heat strokes. Could not believe it, neither did I know much about the ailment until I moved out here and found out that some residents, particularly the elderly are most vulnerable to heat strokes in the East Coast and the Chicago area. Baltimore is a nice city, but I understand, it is a crime infested city. Visited Columbia, a wealthy enclave of MD. I was in Silver Spring during my mini vacation, and I tell you, Nigerians, plenty for that area. Not too long ago, I read an article about the number of Nigerians living in MD. The population alone for Silver Spring was about 15,000 (hope my memory serves me well).

But what is the main attraction that lures Nigerians to Maryland? The place just did not really entice me, apart from my family members. Crime is too much, and real estate, though not as ridiculous as California, still is expensive.
